Jude shook head briefly. Was it that obvious that he didn't want to be there? It didn't really matter. He was paying his dues in order to maintain his living situation. He knew that there were other people who would gladly take him in, but he felt guilty about how this whole situation was panning out. He truly had the best of intentions with this dinner, but being in the same room as Cara and Jesse for so long might wear on his stability.
"Nah, don't worry about it," he said. "Hanging out with you is enough reason to pull through," he added quietly, hoping that no one would pick up on what he was saying. For a moment Jude felt the urge to tell Collin was Brooklyn was up to. A flush of courage ran through his body, but he couldn't bring himself to say anything while Brooklyn was out of earshot. Was it fair to be so loyal to one friend that you potentially let another friend make a big mistake? Jude couldn't make his mind up. Jude took a bite of turkey as Collin began to speak again.
With surprise and a bit of laughter Jude choked on his food for a split second. Quickly he swallowed what what inside of his mouth before ending up spewing food onto the table. Through a couple of involuntary coughs Jude began to chuckle. It was true that at one point Jude had harbored real feelings for Brooklyn. Perhaps it was because she was one of the only creatures in New York City that treated him like a human, or because he was naturally attracted to her. Regardless, after all of this drama in the apartment Jude's ever glowing attitude for Brooklyn was fading. She was beautiful, clearly, and Jude would readily admit that to her face. However, she was always up to something and as much as Jude would like to admit that he admires her ambition, the way that she moves forward in life to aggressively was tiresome for Jude.
"Oh, no." Jude stated before mumbling off. "No, no, no, no..." He took another bite, taking a moment to think before explaining himself to Collin. "Look, man," he started with a low voice. "Brooklyn is real, and she's hot, and she's fun, and she's got everything going for her... But..." Jude wasn't sure how to put this politely. "She's trouble." Jude said in a hushed whisper. He loved Brooklyn dearly, and normally Jude wouldn't be so negative about her, but he was hoping that Collin might think about these words later when she was really laying it down.
"I just want what's best for her," he said in a normal tone, referring to Jesse with a slight movement of the eyes. He looked back at Collin before finishing his thought. "And acting like I want something more with her is enough to deter some people for the time being."
