Theo backed up against the wall and closed his eyes, trying desperately to control the trembling in his hands. "We were together for over twenty years," he whispered, a tear rolling down his cheek. "He helped me rebuild this house when we first started dating, I couldn't leave it if I wanted to." He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and looked up at the ceiling as though the secrets of the universe were hidden in all the spiderwebs.

"I...I buried Jeffy under the tree in the backyard. He planted it before we adopted Sammy; we were gonna build a tree house for the kids one day." Theo shook his head and rubbed his arms as though cold. "Everything here reminds me of them, but I can't even try to complain. They're my family and I love them still, nothing more to it. Even though they're gone, I can't help but feel like I still have them here, y'know?"
