"Fredrick, we don't do that at a public event, even if it happens in the washroom."
Fredrick didn't blame his sister for scolding him. Attacking his brother at a public event is not good for their reputation. Fredrick's temper is usually reigned in well, but seeing his brother deliberately disobeying his orders tends to set him off. He can handle Douglas's alcoholic moments and the annual fights he gets in, but being disobedient is a major peeve for the oldest Steeley. The two siblings were staring at Fredrick, Douglas's eyes pleading. Fredrick raised an eyebrow at his baby brother. He will never understand how Douglas can change his moods so quickly.
"Shall we leave? I've had enough fun for the evening-" "Please,"
Fredrick was as desperate to leave as his siblings. The event was winding down, many of the other businessman and woman leaving. He saw Esmeralda acknowledge the younger Payne's farewell so it wouldn't be rude if the Steeley's left. The family can leave now without worrying about offending the Paynes. Well, Fredrick already did that earlier.
"Yes, let's go home."
The siblings returned to their previous formation as they left the Peacock Lounge, Esmeralda at the head. She deserved it tonight. She hadn't cracked all evening unlike the two brothers. Fredrick smiled to himself. She was the strongest. He's glad she's on their side. The Steeley's chauffeur pulled up in their limousine as the siblings exited the lounge. Fredrick rolled his eyes at the luxury car. Douglas insists on driving in and out with style so a limousine was naturally the perfect choice. The Steeley siblings entered the car and sat in silence. The Payne brothers have proved themselves to be worthy opponents. Now that the event is over and now a new challenge is on the horizon.
"Emmy, call the Payne tomorrow, tell them we've accepted.
