"Careful, they caught us," Mel furtively muttered to Teddy and Eloise, sneaking a second beer bottle to her lips to hide the fact that she was speaking, stealing a sip as she did so. She swallowed the beer, turning her gaze away slightly from the group of three who were probably trying to draw a conclusion about Melanie and her friends. "They know that we're not from around here."
Melanie noticed Pancake flash a lazy smile to Teddy, the only male in the group of demons clearing catching his attention. The girl in the trio noticed as well, lifting Pancake's hand. She moved it side to side, imitating a wave to Mel and her friends.
Melanie tilted the beer bottle back before removing it from her lips, swallowing the liquid. "Bingo," she said. "We're in. Teddy, you're eyeing Panca - er, shortie - over there, and he's interested in you. Perfect way to introduce ourselves to those three." Mel nodded her head slightly to Eloise. "Lolly and I can just be two friends trying to get you to hook up with someone. Of course, in reality, you wouldn't need help with that, but we have an opportunity here."
Melanie gestured to Lolly before pushing Teddy towards the group by his shoulders. The brunette plastered a charming smile on her face, as genuine as she could get it.
"Hey!" she greeted, flashing a smile at the three humans. "I'm sure you probably haven't seen us around here before. I'm Melanie, but everyone just calls me Mel. The redhead over here is Eloise, or Lolly for short, and the lone male is Teddy. We saw you from the other side of the bonfire," Mel gestured to where she, Eloise, and Teddy had been standing just moments before, "and we just wanted to say hi. We've just recently moved to Newport, so we don't really know anybody here." Okay, maybe the first plan was going to waste. Mel could still try to get Teddy Bear and Pancake together though.
Mel swung an arm around Teddy's shoulders, making the movement look natural. She smirked playfully in a friendly manner. "I'm sure Teddy Bear here," Melanie squeezed her friend's shoulder, "is getting tired of hanging around girls all the time. Gives him a bad rep." She pushed Teddy forward gently - intentionally in the direction of Pancake. "You guys'll make him feel loved, I can tell that already."
This may be a bit much for a first meeting, but Mel knew how to be easygoing enough. Besides, she, Teddy, and Eloise could not return to the demon capitol empty-handed.
Mel turned to the brunette girl - her name was Alice, if she overheard correctly. Of course, Mel wasn't exactly supposed to know that. She smiled, sticking her hand out. "Afraid I didn't catch your name."
That handshake was going to be the most life-changing thing Mel was ever going to do.
