Narissa shivered hard as they trudged through the snow. She huddled close s Robin spoke. βNarissa, If you donβt mind to tell me, what happens when the Long Night occurs?β He asked and she had to strain to hear him. βIs it just really cold or is there something more to it?β
"Much more," She answered. "The Long Night is just that, the sun doesn't rise, so the Winter becomes even colder." She said and nodded toward their surroundings. "If we were to walk outside, during the Long Night, we would be dead in mere moments." She said and looked at him, wind whipping the little hair that peeked beneath her hat around her face. "That's why Princess Clara's birth was such a mircale, there were winter childern, sure, but they didn't survive a day like today." She said with a hard frown. "For her to survive as a winter child was one thing but to survive being born during the Long Night, in the midst of a storm?" She shook her head. "Some of the Elders used to talk about Winter Child, how they were bad luck during the Winter, how they were bring about a darkness that would end us all. Some used to give the childern to the Fae, leave them out for them to take in hopes for a warm winter but the King put a stop to such practices when the princess was born, even though it was her birth that took the Queen," She explained. "She was called a miracle, and there hadn't been a single Winter in the last twenty years." She said and sighed. "The superstition goes that Clara took Winter unto herself, and it where her illness is comes from, She was the Golden Princess. Winter's Miracle, carrying winter in her chest." She said and smiled as they approached the castle gates. "A superstition, all of it, but the Princess would do anything for her people, even carry Winter in her chest." She said as they were lead into the warmth of the castle. "She'll want to see you." Narissa said and made her way up to the Princess' Chambers.
Clara lay in her bed, singing a haunting melody softly to herself. The feel of Galen's lip still lingering on hers, and the warmth of him, lingering on her skin. She shouldn't be focusing on this, she should be recovering, and then building a rebellion to overthrow him. Saving him would be an added luxury but a luxury nonetheless. Then there was the Winter King. She could only remember him when she first awakens, but his face fades the moment she is fully conscious. The feeling he gave her, the fear--no terror she felt, that clung to her like ivy on stone. "Something in the darkness, pulls me deeper, something in madness, eased my mind, was I awake or am I dreaming-" There was a knock at her door, stopping her mid-note. "Come," She called and to her surprise, it was Narissa and "Robin," She smiled, confused. "Narissa...What?" She noticed how snow clung to both of them, Narissa's skin was blotched with red and Robin's beard and hair held small icicles. "Did you travel to the Inn?"
Narissa nodded. "I did, Princess, I worried for you, I thought you'd feel better knowing Master Robin was here, close." She said and Clara arched an eyebrow. Narissa was up to no good. "Right, Robin what did she tell you?" Clara asked, sounded much more like the Queen Narissa wanted her to be.
