Because of how innocent and harmless she came across as being, people indulged in Holly more than they needed to, but Cara had been incomparably kind to her, ever since they met. She was quite possibly the only real friend that Holly had, even if from the outside, it probably just seemed like a relationship that Cara sustained out of pity. Cara had not only provided Holly with distractions in the form of things she could never do otherwise, like Broadway shows, frequent movie outings, and even a Disney World trip, but most importantly, in the form of a companionship. Without that, Holly had been feeling more unsatisfied than she normally did, though she wasn't aware that the lack of socialization with Cara was the root of that. Additionally, in a more short term sense, on her second day of Adderall use, the irritability and restlessness could probably also be connected to that. Nonetheless, Holly's moods had been shiftier lately than they typically were, and her big fight with Makayla this morning over the wine stains that she knew she had nothing to do with, was only the icing on the cake.
For reasons unknown to her, Makayla refused to believe the truth: that she had made a friend randomly, and he had come over, and then she had left momentarily and Roman had come over, and then once she returned to the apartment with Cara, her friend was gone, so it was either her friend, Roman, or Cara who had caused the stains, but not her. In theory, the idea of all of that happening in the short span that Chanel and Makayla were gone from the apartment for, did seem unrealistic, but Holly couldn't look at it from another point of view, especially after Makayla had screamed at her for it and promised that the cleaning costs involved would come from them pawning her new iPad. Since Chanel was gone from the apartment all day too, Holly felt like she was a prisoner locked in solitary confinement, and had resorted to sending out lots of texts on her iPad to Brooklyn and Cara, in between watching TV in her pajamas. When there was a knock at the door to the apartment though, she didn't assume that it was either of them, and instead thought that it was Makayla, which had her purposely pausing for a long minute out of spite before going to answer it. When she did open it though, she ditched her well-prepared scowl immediately when she saw that it was actually Brooklyn who had knocked. "Hi Brooklyn!" she exclaimed, and though she normally would have immediately found something important enough to launch into conversation over, she was surprised enough (and also still dealing with being in an off-mood) that she didn't know what to say, though her enthused look spoke to how excited she was at the surprise visit.
