|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||
The core of Erika's being was a sense of competence. The ability to either perform a task as well as you possibly can, or to know that you can't and pass the task to someone who is able to do such a thing. Incompetence could always be avoided, and as such, it irritated her when something wasn't done right. So for every time she messed up on a note, or every time she took too small or too big a step according to the choreography, she wanted to burn her hand with a fire poker as punishment. For Seraphina who was performing so excellently, Erika felt like a shabby knock off version of what a flutist should be.
"You were so good! I'm feeling so hot right now." Sera wiggled, parting her lips teasingly at her lover. Erika was staring coldly at her hands, wondering why she was such a failure. She had performed awfully. "No, I was terrible. I made so many mistakes." Sera snickered and stretched her tired fingers. "Oh, you mean those times I mistimed something or whatever? Yeah, my bad! I'll do better next time, okay?" The flutist stared at the pianist and her twin tails swung as she shook her head, now backstage. "I hardly noticed any errors on your end." Sera went in for the kiss right then and there, locking their fingers together into one small perfect puzzle just for them. "And I didn't notice any of yours! Do I really need to remind you every time, Rika? We're always our own harshest critic. I bet none of them noticed - or if they did, they thought it was just your own interpretation of the song." Erika laughed, no longer feeling like a failure. Sera was always able to bring levity back to her. "One kiss, but then we should go meet the others."
One kiss later, the two performers returned to meet with the rest of their party. Julian gave them enthusiastic applause. "You two were the best! I almost cried in the end, isn't that great?" Clover, too, was bursting with praise. "I saw it." Eamon whispered into Erika's ear. "You screwed up a few steps in your dance. Next time do it perfectly so my outfit gets displayed to it's best." Erika nodded and shot Sera an 'I-told-you-so' look. The redhead grinned and stuck her tongue out, returning with a 'I-think-you're-hot-anyways' smile. They returned to the theater for results. The penultimate one, the sponsored boy, earned his second. He looked very happy with that score. And of course, Erika and Sera got their first place, as they almost always did.
Once the closing ceremony ended, Erika noticed something. She nudged Clover and pointed at the familiar figure seated around the middle. Maple was here, no doubt babysitting little Jarvan for this outing. "It's Maple." The Master whispered for her pet to hear. It had been a while since they had seen each other last. "Do you want to go and say hi?"
