Just like Rosemary and Maple before her, Erika was going to have scars on her head from the stitches from the operation, there was nothing that could really be done about that. It wouldn't be too bad, recovery technology in terms of scars had improved as the years went on after all. Her head felt too tight as if it was going to rip and tear if she wasn't careful. Of course through the haze of pain medicine Erika wasn't really able to do anything at all but stare at nothing, trying to catch little sounds in her few waking moments. She could only hear out the left ear and it was very hard to hear at all, but even the fact that no longer would her world be one of silence made her incredibly happy.
Well, Clover no doubt being at her side the entire time was of great happy-making, too. The days crawled by and while recovery was a bit difficult, it was nowhere near as hard as what Alistair had to deal with, or Seraphina whose fingers were all twitchy and full of pain. Hers was the second easiest really, Maple having the shortest recovery time. In the end though, maybe four days after the operation Erika opened her eyes, looking around in confusion, feeling not like a zombie for the first time in days. She tilted her head to the sound of something, anything, catching Clover's soft breathing. It was the middle of the night, so no doubt her lover was asleep. So Erika moved painfully over, careful not to shift her head around too much, and clung to Clover's soft fluffy tail and fell back to sleep with a contented smile on her face.
The sunrise came and she was finally awake for real now, yawning and actually almost being able to hear it. She practiced a few words in the lazy stupor of morning. "Hello." She said to nothing. "I am Erika Harrington, the Blue Lotus, and Clover's lover!" She couldn't really hear it, but she could almost kind of and that was better than nothing. According to the note Rosemary left on the night desk, it would take a while before the sense becomes more usable, you had to train it. It would never be what it used to be, but at least it would be maybe thirty percent if you were lucky. Erika hoped so, she wanted to be play to play music again and dive into the world of beautiful sounds and melodies. Oh and teach Clover more of that ukelele too.
