She watched him squirm under her eyes, he was clearly feeling something, but she didn't know what it was. Before she could even think about getting up to go talk to him he turned on his heels taking his food from the microwave and marching back to his table of friends. "Earth to Meg? Helllloooo" She turned her head sharply, pulling herself out of her little 'moment'. It was Kaity, one of her good friends that she had grown close to (or as close as Meg could get with anyone) sophomore year. "Are you good? You look a little pale". Meg's face flushed slightly, out of embarrassment, she couldn't believe that one stupid boy was making her feel so worked up. "I'm fine, I just- had a rough night" She said quietly, avoiding eye contact, Kaity always knew when she was lying. "Wait, Meg. Hannah told me she saw you and a particular blonde headed boy leaving together last night" She jerked her head in Bryant's direction. "Did you finally get your hands on the most unattainable boy at Grandview? There's gotta be like, some sort of medal for that! Was he-" "No!" Meg said rather sharply making Kaity shrink into her seat, a worried look passing her face. "Meg, what is wrong with you? Are you okay?" She knew her friend was worried about her but, she felt so ashamed and embarrassed of herself that she was on edge. She pushed herself up from the table grabbing her bag, "I'm fine. And no, I did not sleep with Bryant Matthews so you can save yourself all of the gossip" She didn't know why she didn't admit it, maybe a small part of her was embarrassed or maybe a part of her still cared about Bryant enough to not go out and tarnish his reputation as being the golden boy of the school who slept with her of all people. Kaity was just open-mouthed, completely shocked as Meg hurried out of the cafeteria now on the verge of tears.
She exited the cafeteria and dashed into the nearest girl's bathroom, thankful that it was empty. The second she locked herself in a stall she burst into tears. She felt stupid, stupid and ashamed. Most of all angry, not only at Bryant but at herself. That she allowed herself to have feel for someone, and for it to completely blow up in her face.
