โ€œWell, you can start by telling me who called off the official raid?... and then telling me what the hell you guys are doing here anyway?โ€ Harry looked up, surprised that Sam was there.

"Ah!...Detective...!" He hung his head, a bit disappointed in himself. Harry thought for once he did something right. But again, he screwed up and would probably get another earful from Lieutenant Garret. The young officer sighed to himself. "It was Lieutenant Garret sir. H-he called off the raid. But I just thought..." He paused, considering what his excuse would be. "I thought...I'd get him this time...like I finally did something right..."

Harry felt Sam's strong hand on his shoulder โ€œIโ€™m proud of you for disobeying orders,โ€ he whispered quietly. โ€œBut son, donโ€™t try to be a hero. What if they had been here? I donโ€™t want to be going to another funeral, watching my niece cry her eyes out.โ€ His voice was consoling, yet harsh at the same time.

Harry looked at Sam as he walked towards the windows. "His niece...Emily...?" He whispered to himself. "Why...would she cry for me...?" He was slightly blushing, his face getting hot, but from what Harry wasn't sure.

The detective continued. โ€œYou need more officers you can trust before trying to take this one out. He has powerful friends, and apparently someone inside on his side.โ€

Harry nodded. "Yes, me and officer Jason were just talking about it. It's definitely someone from our station, not the outside officers like the SWAT or FBI members."

Sam turned and nodded. "Right. So, what we need now, is to head back to HQ." He walked began to walk out. "Hey." He called out to Harry, who jumped a bit as he looked up. "This Jason guy. You think you can trust him?" Harry simply stared back at him, contemplating his question. He hadn't really thought about it. But right now, he had no reason not to trust him. So far, he has been dependable. Harry nodded. "Good. Then bring him in with you to Garret's office. We need to discuss what just happened here." And with that, he left.

Harry soon followed. He was a little afraid to head to Garret's now, but it was unavoidable. He was prepared to face whatever Garret had for him.

"Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn...!" Garret kept swearing to himself. "Why did it have to...my reputation..." He brooded in his office, continuously muttering to himself. His pride, his dignity, all were at stake now because of one cheeky little maggot, and a worm no one could pin a parking ticket on. He looked at his gun. He knew he couldn't stay. By tomorrow or the next day, the newspaper would come out, and the loyalty and fear from his subordinates would be compromised. He quietly left the station, his badge left on his desk, but his gun missing. His thoughts were filled with ways of settling this now personal score. "Maddox..." He muttered. "Black...it doesn't matter to me anymore...both of you have been a thorn since the beginning...and now your both mine!!"
