Munroe was sat in his office. The room was a small square room with whitewashed red-brick walls and a small window covered by a set of four thick iron bars and a blind. The office was part of a warehouse conversion, and opened out into a big communal space that was shared by half-a-dozen other offices, mostly law firms and building contractors. Munroes was the only one with a steel reinforced door and three thick bolts. The office contained a desk, two chairs and a large file cabinet.

Munroe sat in the chair behind the desk, cleaning his .45. He ejected the magazine, gently flicking the bullets from it to ease the springs, and pulled back the slide. Using a cleaning rod, he swiftly eradicated any traces of dirt from the gun. He was in the process of re-applying oil to the moving parts when a tap on the door disturbed him. He placed the .45 on the table and moved to the door.

It was Jason. Munroe unbolted the door and let Jason in. Jason took a seat in one of the old office chairs and Munroe resumed his postion behind the desk and snapped the slide forward on the .45. Jason sat, his hands neatly folded in his lap and spoke.
"Munroe, I'd like to hire you." Munroe looked incredulous.
"Hire me Jason? Your the fucking police. What do you need a dead-beat P.I for?" Jason looked at Munroe, a small smile creasing his gunshot scar.
"I need you to investigate a dirty cop..." Munroe's jaw dropped. "His name is Garrett. Me and Shiraoka belive he's deep in Big Leo's pocket but if we start a case against him we'll end up swimming in the river with a pair of concrete shoes."
"And you want me to investigate him? Wait for him to make a mistake? Catch Big Leo? He's a fucking cop Jason." Munroe was not usually a defeatist but he knew he couldn't chase down a cop.
"The department will pay you handsomly for this, and I'll try to get you any specialist equipment for the job." Munroe mulled the idea over in his head for a few minutes then finally spoke. "I'll need an illegal wire tap on all phones Garret uses, a couple of wireless bugs, a yale gun, some standard lockpicks and a set of decent pictures of his house." Jason swiftly scribbled down Munroe's list on his pad, then looked into Munroe's eyes. He saw a glint he hadn't seen for a while. Not since the Gulf. Munroe spoke in a hushed tone. "Do you know if Mackenzie and Leon are still active? I could use some muscle and a pair of sharp eyes."
