Dukald's voice echoed over the Pass, which was accompanied by the other dwarven bear riders. Their cries fill the heart of all nearby whom could hear, and was not on the side of their pikes.
"PROTECT YER BEARDS, DWARVES!"
"YEP! THEY'RE UGLY!"
"COME! BREAK YER WEAPONS AGAINST OUR MITHRIL!"
"IT HARDLY SEEMS FAIR!"
"FERR BLOOD! FER IRON! FER VIIICTORRYYYY!"
"MY TEMPER GROWS ILL! I KNEW THUS WAS COMIN'!"
And calls of the like echoed through the valley. The dwarves were ready for this. Their blood ran hot, their hearts raced, and their minds were solid. Dukald was but one of them, and he knew that there was no failure in their nearby future. The dwarves slammed their miscilanious weapons against their shields, creating a threatening war-drum effect, which rallied the troops even more. The bears, trained to respond to such sounds all took a deep breath, before letting out a monsterous roar, some rearing up to do so.

Dukald's voice rang out yet again. "We're on tha defensive dwarves, what we do best! Shields high, and spears behind! Got et!?! Don't let ANYTHING through tha' line! Remember! Watch out for the Minataur phalanxes, and those Spiderbitches! If you see one; give 'em the good ol' Barniby!" He said, speaking in dwarven code. The dwarves acknowledged, before setting up their defensive positions.

It wasn't long before the left flank was victim to a charge: the bloody fools. They charged right smack into the Bear Riders, trying obviously to strike their mounts. The only thing that that earned them was a good hard spear jab, breaking ribs and puncturing organs. The next wave tried a different tactic; attacking the riders. This way earned them a sharp, bonecrushing bite to the thigh, femurs crushing along with them. It seemed the dwarven seargent wasn't lying: Defense is what they did best. They were completely armored from the front, and since they had allies to their backs, they were like a solid, semi-rabid wall.

Dukald held his spear out, causing an orc to slow his charge. He batted the dwarf's spear away, and came in close, swinging an orcish maul. He swung it forth, and tried to smash the high-riding dwarven bear rider. Dukald brough his shield up. The blunt weapon met hard with the ironwood boundry, creating a large smack. The ironwood was reinforced with Steel borders, and didn't whatsoever seem to take damage, and since Dukald's arm isn't fixed, it buckled slightly to absorb recoil. Using his training, Dukald pushed off hard on his shield, causing the orc to stumble back. Grimhide didn't waste time in simply jumping forward slightly, and slamming her weight on top of the armored beast. Even in heavy steel, the armor couldn't stand the brunt of a half-ton smashing his chest. It didn't kill him instantly however. His paniced body began to desperately beat upon Grimhide's armored legs. The strikes had little effect, having little room to gain momentum, and being one handed, the maul was little more than an aggrivating punch to the bear, whom roared in the man's face, before biting deep into it. The bear's jaws smashed around the man's jaw horizontally. He would feel his jowels touch eachother, the bones in his face crushing, breaking and compacting as the bear tore away his flesh, and even dragging his tongue out a bit too, as it hung down to tickle his bloodsmeared throat.

The next was a harpy, whom thought she was hot shit. Swooping down, she dug her claws easily into the back of the battlejacket that Dukald wore. Flapping her wings, she began to gain altitude. Dukald wrapped his ankles in Grimhides stirrups, latching himself to his mount. The harpy was strong, but couldn't lift their combined mass. Her clawed toes began to release the dwarf, but he released the grip on his spear, and grabbed the woman's ankle. "Where ya goin', pretty?! Ain't ya goin' ta stay wit' me fer the rest o' the night?!" He yelled at her. She tried harder; she couldn't swing at him, or she'd hit the ground face first. She was a literal bird in the birdcage. He pulled his all his dwarven might against the feathered female, drawing her closer to him. Once she was close enough, he released the handhold on his shield, letting the loose leather strap hold it to his arm. He reached forward with his other arm, grasping the same foot, then to her clawed toe. He roared, and jerked the appendage back, the bone snapping with a loud pop. Out of sheer pain, her wings stopped flapping, and more of flailing. He let her go afterwards, knowing she'd know better than try and swoop during this battle again, and the archers would make a pincushion of her soon anyway.

But this took too long; pivoting on his waist, Dukald was just in time to get slammed with the sharp side of a broadsword. The weapon was weighted enough to smash him from his bear, but not to seriously injur him. His mithril had ensured he himself had not been evicerated, just the battlejacket. He stumbled to his feet, and pulled his axe from his back, regripping his shield. A Gnoll was laughing at him like the Jakal he was. Grinning, the beast went around Grimhide, whom was blissfully unaware of her rider being missing, instead, helping herself to another downed footsoldier. The Gnoll jumped at Dukald, bringing his blade down in a fierce manner, which Dukald greeted with his shield. The dwarf tried to counter with his own axe, but the beast also brandished a bulwark. The two faced off for a few minutes, dealing glancing blows to each other. Dukald pressed his shield to the gnoll's and pushed hard, stumbling the foul creature. Dukald took an advance step, and tried to axe him again. The beast fell farther than Dukald expected, and he sunk his axe into dirt. The creature regained it's footing, running up to the almost kneeling dwarf, and kneed his face, the bony joint smashing against Dukald's forehead, and he took a few steps back, holding his soon to be bruised forehead. The gnoll then shouldered Dukald, causing him to stumble over, and land on his back. He regained his wit just in time to bring his shield over his body, blocking a stabbing thrust from the Savage warrior. "Life above honor, my friend!" He would yell at the soldier, before his leg curled up, and smashed into the furry's groin. He was sure the beast's laughs and cackles got three pitches higher, as he held his smashed manhood, dropping to his knees. Dukald pulled himself off the ground, and placed his hands hard on the beast's shoulder, and placed his own jumping knee to the gnoll's jaw, causing him to fall onto his back, still holding his new womanhood. Dukald would get up, and place a knee on each side of the beasts chest, begining to pummel his face, shield and all. The it wasn't long before the beast was unconcious. The dwarf spat on the beast, and wiped his forehead, feeling the knot forming already. He looked over to the line, and saw that his allies had held the flank with very, very minimal casualties, and were awaiting wave three.

Dukald whistled loudly, and ran forward, his mithril mail jingling as he got up to his bear, whom returned the favor by plodding towards him. He remounted swiftly, and they rode back to the line just in time. They saw the third wave...pikemen. But none of the bear riders seemed afraid, in fact, most of them taunted their adversaries. Dukald grinned. He loved his race. He decided to throw his taunt over the entire battlefield. He was going to give them a promise that he would ensure they uphold....
