Sun streamed in through the window of Kaoru's room. The light fell across his face, highlighting his strong features and long eyelashes. The left half of his face was cast in shadow, contrasting with the golden sunshine that spilled onto the other half. Rolling onto his side, Kaoru stretched, opening his eyes reluctantly. It was hard for him to admit that he needed to get up, especially since he had stayed up late the night before. He loved to go for midnight walks. The solitude and silence helped him recenter himself and eased a lot of the tension that built up during the day.

Sitting up, he ran a hand through his dishelved hair. "I should have remembered to close the blinds last night," he thought to himself, rather disgruntled. The alarm clock on his bedside table announced that it was barely 7 am.

Slipping his jeans on loosely, Kaoru grabbed a shirt, slinging it over his shoulder as he trudged heavily down the hall to the bathroom. His expression must have been frightening, but he tried to tone down his mood a bit. He didn't want to give the wrong impression, after all. A splash of cold water against his face succeeded in rousing him from the last vestiges of sleepiness. He looked over his reflection in the mirror for a moment. Water dripped down his face, sliding smoothly over his jaw bone and down his neck. The ends of his unruly hair were wet, and a few locks clung to his face and neck. His eyes were a dark, deep blue color, flecked with specks of gray and silver.

Grabbing the hand towel from next to the sink, Kaoru dried his face, rubbing sleep from his eyes. With a sigh, he turned and continued down the hall, where he could hear the sound of a few of the others conversing and eating breakfast. Kaoru had never like breakfast food. Just something about cereal repulsed him, and he often skipped breakfast as a result. His stomach growled aggressively, vetoing this course of action for today.

"Good morning," he said curtly as he entered the room.
