Age: 26
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Appearance: Although not quite classically handsome, Jack's even features are imbued with a quirky good-naturedness and vitality of expression that is attractive. A constant ambiguous smile hovers over his lips and dimples his cheek and is perhaps what makes people (and criminals) open up to him so readily. He might almost be one of their own. To be faced with that smile turning into a hard straight line and those lively blue eyes grow steely is not something that happens very often but when it does, it's as unexpected as being savaged by a puppy. His hair is dark brown and wavy and can occasionally be coaxed into neatness though it is more often allowed to do whatever it likes.
Taller than average but not especially well-built, Jack is more wiry than muscular. His is a runner's body, not a boxer's or a football player's. However, being a plain-clothes detective he is no stranger to violence (though he tends to attract less of it than some of his more gung-ho colleagues) and could easily fell a bigger man given the opportunity.
His dress is unremarkable and he favours jeans, t-shirts and canvas shoes though will pull on a leather jacket against the chill of a New York autumn. At work, his appearance is just another tool that can help him do what he needs to to. If he must alter it to go undercover then he will do so. The rest of the time, he dresses mostly for comfort and like many who don't indulge much conscious effort with their appearance has a relaxed and unconsidered style all of his own.
Current Occupation: Policeman
Personality: So laid back as to be practically horizontal. That is the first impression that Jack initially gives off. Innocent jokes laced with dark humour, a tendency towards nonchalance and a reluctance to fill out paperwork mean that he has been passed over for promotion several times in the past. But those who know him well; his closest colleagues and his family, know that beneath this apparent lackadaisical attitude lies a deep-seated determination and drive that only comes to the fore in times of great stress or need. His group of friends, like most policemen, consists primarily of fellow cops and is small but close-knit. He is popular for his sense of humour and his ability to make almost anyone feel at ease.
But, to know him at all is to know that he constantly checks himself. Afraid of the dark impulses that, if acted upon, might manifest themselves as his becoming a bad person, he makes a conscious effort to pretend to be a good one by acting as if he were. What exactly that does make him, he never dwells on. Perhaps because of this, thought for his own well-being, above and beyond instinctive protection of his person on the job, is practically non-existent and to him, the future is a far-away place.
History/Biography:Jack was born to Katherine and Ian Blythe in Owego. His parents were a medical secretary and a mechanic respectively and he spent the first few years of his life in a modestly-sized house in a quiet area of the village. When Jack was five, his mother was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer. She died when he was six after a long, drawn-out struggle with the disease which he was barely aware of at the time. His memories of his mother are few and blurred but always infused with a sense of warmth and the feel of her favourite angora sweater.
He and his father moved to a much smaller flat and he began school at a local elementary. The rest of his childhood was happy but not out of the ordinary. His strongest but most deeply buried memories are of long evenings spent in the meadow outside the village. In his teenage years, Jack didn't have the chance to rebel; his father had hardly laid down any rules and permitted his son to do almost anything provided a) he passed his exams in school and b) he didn't get himself too badly hurt. And so by the time he was eighteen, after a few years of under-aged drinking, petty vandalism and staying out too late, he'd gotten it all out of his system.
In school, his grades were respectable but not exceptional and he truly excelled at little except track running and history. After leaving high school, the NYPD seemed like a logical choice; fresh air, the city, a set career path and new people (even if some of those people were criminals). Encountering uglier side of human nature was not a complete shock to Jack, after all he'd hardly had a sheltered upbringing. But it certainly helped to develop a protective sense of humour that he now carries around with him like a shield. At the age of twenty-four, he took and passed the entry exams to be appointed to the rank of detective. He is currently attached to the violent crimes and homicide division.
He now lives alone in a small apartment in Hell's Kitchen. Girlfriends have come and gone but he is currently casually dating a paralegal called Lucy Keenan and has been for the past three months. He has taken two weeks off to attend his childhood friend's funeral and spend some time with his father.
โ€œMake-believeโ€ Character: A master thief, an expert at moving unseen and unheard.
Appearance Within Dreamscape: A grey hood covers his head and casts a a shadow across his features. His clothes are similarly coloured and practical but with a trim suggestive of some Middle Eastern design. Two ornately-handled knives are strapped across his chest and his boots are crafted out of soft leather to make his footsteps soundless. His physical appearance remains largely unchanged except for a few scars sustained in imaginary missions and an intricate tattoo across his back.
Skills Within Dreamscape: The ability to melt into the slightest shadow and move in absolute silence. He seems to react faster and move more quickly than the average human being- be one of the lucky ones that hear a noise and, even if he was there a moment ago, he won't be when you turn around. Though he cannot do it consciously, when he is absolutely concentrating on stealth, the minds of those he wants to avoid become... distracted. Within reason.
Equipment/weapons: A pair of twin daggers, a grapple hook and crossbow, a string of tiny bottles containing various poisons and sleeping draughts.

So begins...
