Reinette and Thurilostel had spent a decent amount of time in the shops before Reinette had gathered the nerve to ask her about a few things that only concerned women. The Elven woman had seemed relatively confused when Reinette had first asked - it seemed like something important to bring up before it was necessary, rather than when it was... too late.
"Uh, Lady Thurilostel..." She had begun, and the Elven woman had turned to see a faint blush on Reinette's cheeks. She had raised an eye brow at the state of Reinette's features, absolutely curious as to what could possibly be making the Mortal woman turn that shade of pink.
"I figured maybe it was better to ask you instead of Dúlinnor, but..." She paused. How on earth did someone breach this question in this world? Was it taboo to talk about such things? Reinette remembered the feeling she'd had a young girl asking her mother about such things... The same feeling was in her stomach again.
Might as well get it the hell over with...
She bit her lip slightly, before opening her mouth. "What do I do when that... time of the month comes about?" Thurilostel looked thoroughly confused.
'Great...' thought Reinette. Now that she thought about it, she didn't even know if Elves menstruated like humans did. If she didn't know what Reinette was talking about, the girl thought it would embarrass her to the point of death to have to fully explain herself.
She dug her teeth a little harder into her lip. "Um... Period? Menstruation?" Thurilostel still looked as if she did not fully understand.
Leaning in, she cupped her hand to whisper into the Elven woman's ear
exactly what she meant. Her face got redder as she did so, and Thurilostel's eyes grew slightly. Stepping back after, Reinette felt as if she could die. When Thurilostel saw the look on the poor woman's face, she couldn't help but laugh.
The sound of the Elven woman's laughter actually helped to ease her nerves a bit. "Oh, Lady Reinette. Why didn't you just say?" She was teasing, of course, but Reinette didn't really pick up on it.
"That's not really something you just talk about in good company! In public!" She whispered, her voice slightly frantic.
Thurilostel wrapped her arm around the younger woman's shoulder softly, guiding her toward a far place in the market, all the wile reassuring the woman that it was okay, and that she understood.
They arrived to a tent that the two stepped into, which seemed to sell medicinal items. Thurilostel picked out some herbs and various other things that Reinette didn't truly know what they were for, before speaking in a hushed tone to the Elven woman who ran the shop. The woman took some containers out from underneath a shelf, glancing at the Mortal woman, before handing Thurilostel a bundle of some cut cloth.
Reinette offered the coin to pay for the items once all was said and done. Thurilostel tucked them discreetly into a pouch that she had brought with her to carry any items that they had bought, though not before explaining the herbs intended uses. "This one," she spoke of a green leaf with pink veins running through it. "Is for reduction..." Reinette nodded, understanding what she meant. "Please tear one leaf, and place it in the bath before you wash." She showed the Mortal woman the other - a flaky leafy plant that was a blueish-green in color. "This one, please roll a small piece between your fingers, and..." She paused, looking for her words. "...and place under the tongue."
Upon exiting the shop, Reinette thanked her immensely for not only the explanations but for even coming with her in the first place. She knew for a fact that she would have never been able to figure it all out on her own.
"Please, do not hesitate... in the future to ask me questions." Reinette nodded at the Elven woman's words, before the woman placed a familiar hand on her shoulder. "You have me as well as Dúlinnor, but maybe... some questions are better..." she paused. "...better to ask me."
Reinette nodded, before speaking. "I think I would have actually died if I had to ask Dúlinnor such a thing..." Thurilostel's eye seemed to twinkle at the admission of the younger woman. After a moment, she spoke.
"Come, let us continue to shop!" She tucked her arm around the Mortal woman's arm, enthusiastically pulling her off toward some other shops.
After their day of shopping had come to an end, the two women took Reinette's purchases back to Dúlinnor's home, tucking them away in the Mortal woman's room before exiting the home and continuing the walk. Reinette had purchased a few things, specifically things that Thurilostel determined were necessities.
They had stopped back to the shop that Dúlinnor had taken her to to purchase the clothing. Thurilostel chatted happily with the woman from before, who seemed to regard Reinette with a smile in her eye. They spoke quickly in Elvish, though Reinette didn't even know why they bothered - she couldn't understand a thing even if they spoke slowly.
The shop keeper invited Reinette further inside the tent, and motioned for her to stand on an elevated box, before returning with some fabric and some sort of measurement device. She took various measurements of the young woman; inseam, bust, waist, hips, collarbone, arms... Reinette lost track after a while.
Thurilostel explained her plan. "I think it is good for her to know you, so she may make you clothing as you please." Reinette nodded, and the woman returned with the fabric from before. Fitting it around the girls shoulders, she clasped it in the front with a brooch. Measuring the distance between her ankles and the ground, the woman seemed happy with her handiwork - Reinette payed her for the cloak, and the woman folded it carefully, including the brooch with it.
They had also stopped into a shop, at the insistence of Reinette, that sold musical type instruments. Thurilostel waited curiously as Reinette had browsed the selection. She picked up an instrument that resembled the acoustic guitars she had grown up playing, though it was smaller. She played a few chords, and some notes. A few of the chords felt a bit off, so she tightened the strings, happy to be able to find something that sounded quite close to her beloved instrument.
She was happy to purchase the instrument, though Thurilostel seemed curious at her choice. "You know how to play... the 'guitar'?" she asked. She had said the name of the instrument earlier, but Reinette couldn't quite remember, opting instead to continue calling it a guitar. So Thurilostel did the same, interested in the Westron word she didn't know.
"I know how to play the guitar, yeah. This is a little different, though. A little more..." She couldn't really find the word to describe the sound it gave off. "It's a little more... earthy?" That didn't sound quite right, but Thurilostel nodded anyway. She seemed to understand.
From there the women had gone to a few more shops. Reinette had bought some drawing papers, as well as some colored pastels - or at least something that seemed like pastels. She also purchased a pouch similar to the one that Thurilostel carried with her.
All of these things had been dropped off at the house, and the girls were chatting as they made their way to somewhere that Reinette wasn't entirely sure. Thurilostel finally spoke as they approached the grounds. Reinette remembered her comment from earlier, stifling a giggle. She wondered how much Aglaron would be upset with his wife for coming, but she figured it would be okay when she saw the other women that were already there, chatting between themselves, watching the other Wardens spar.
The group of Elven women quieted when they saw Reinette. Some gave her kind looks, while others seemed to regard her as a true foreigner, apparent looks of superiority on their faces. Their hushed whispered started again, and this time Reinette was sure she was one of the topics that was being talked about. Thurilostel guided the young woman toward a bench, farther away from the group of women, and closer to the brothers; Reinette had just spotted them with her eyes.
Quietly the women took a seat, Thurilostel's eyes on her husband. Reinette also watched them intently; she had never seen anyone fighting with swords in her life, and it had her heartbeat slightly elevated. She worried that hopefully one of them wouldn't lose a finger or something like that.
The two sparred for a short while, before it seemed that Aglaron had seen his wife. He seemed visibly frustrated, shouting out to her in Elvish. She laughed, answering him in Elvish, turning to Reinette and smiling. "He is not pleased, but it will soon pass him."
Reinette nodded, nervously. It didn't really look like it would soon pass him - he launched out at Dúlinnor, his frustration seemingly focused onto his brother instead. Reinette watched them nervously. Dúlinnor was clearly skilled, but Aglaron was as well, and the way they were swinging the swords around at each other made Reinette's heart begin to hammer in her chest.
There was a moment when Reinette was sure Dúlinnor was going to get stabbed in the face, but he dodged at the last moment, instead getting nicked in the neck. Breath sucked into her lungs quickly, and she couldn't help but grab onto Thurilostel's hand and squeeze. The Elven woman looked at her, seeing the worry clearly etched into the young woman's features. She couldn't help but feel bad for her.
"Dúlinnor will be okay. Aglaron will not hurt him..."
Reinette wanted to point out that Aglaron had in fact already hurt Dúlinnor buy nicking him in the neck, but she didn't know if Thurilostel had seen the sword cut into Dúlinnor's neck. Reinette had tunnel vision at the sight, only being able to concentrate on Dúlinnor. Thurilostel had instead been paying attention to her husband.
Dúlinnor was then down on the ground on his back, his brother swinging at him, when the younger Elven male kicked Aglaron's legs out from underneath him. A few voices shouted out, and Reinette noticed others had seemingly been officiating. The two brothers stood from the ground, talking as if they hadn't just been swinging at each other with dangerously pointy objects. Thurilostel stood, still holding onto Reinette's hand - probably to keep the younger Mortal woman from running to the males.
The two made their way over in good time, Dúlinnor speaking to Reinette as soon as he approached.
"I hope your day apart from me was not too terrible." He had laughed, but Reinette couldn't bring herself to laugh along. She had enjoyed her day, yes, but she had missed him too.
The only thing she could say was, "...Your neck..." Her hand reached out tentatively, indicating where he was hurt, almost as if she wanted to touch it - wanted to fix it - but was unsure of herself. Her eyes held worry, and she made contact with his own gray ones. His seemed happy, more than anything.
Thurilostel seemed to notice what Reniette was indicating, speaking to Dúlinnor in Elvish, for which Dúlinnor answered her back the same.
But his eyes turned once more to Reinette, speaking.
"I do not know about you... but I am starved." Reinette could barely tear her eyes from the wound in his neck, but she did, making eye contact with him. He seemed entirely fine with whatever the wound felt like, at least to her... She offered him a tentative half smile, nodding in agreement.
Aglaron spoke to Dúlinnor in Elvish, and he and his wife soon departed from the pair. Though, not before Thurilostel insisted that they see each other again soon - very soon, as she said.
Once the other two had begun walking away, Dúlinnor offered the Mortal woman his arm. She took it gladly, thankful for the familiar contact.
"Come. I am more than ready to return to the flet." They began walking, and Reinette could feel his eyes on her. Her own were on the ground, watching the grass as they walked. She looked up and over to his face as he spoke again.
"Did you do any shopping?"She nodded before she spoke. "Thurilostel took me all over the market today..." Her voice sort of drifted off, before she laughed slightly. "She is very enthusiastic about shopping. I bought a cloak, some art supplies, a satchel and a guitar..." She neglected to tell him of the feminine supplies - some things he just didn't need to know about. "I've got a pretty decent amount of coins left..." Being thrifty was something Reinette was proud that she had been able to do, while still getting quality products. She didn't mention the fact that the guitar-like instrument cost the equivalent of the rest of the things she had bought, making up for half of the cost of what she had bought that day. She knew she would't have to buy another, so it was one of those one-time costs.
"Do you play any instruments?" She asked him as they made their way through town, turning to look at him again. She waited for his answer, before speaking again. "I can play for you some time if you want. I don't know what any traditional music sounds like here, so it would be interesting to learn... Because I bet you anything that the music I grew up with is entirely different than anything you've ever heard." Her laugh was crystal clear, her eyes twinkling with happiness.
