➣ I C E ▪ Though Paloma is unable to manifest moisture to create unusual amounts of ice, if there is the right amount of water in the air, she can manifest unusual things. She can turn a simple sprinkling of rain into a light snowfall, if only in a small space. She can manifest a thick shield with enough liquid. This ability is controlled by intent and focus.
Born to a pair of teachers, Paloma was raised with a high respect for education. It wasn't until she discovered, at the age of ten, just what was going on, that everything went wrong for her. She came down from her bedroom for a glass of water, and found her mother and father locked in a fistfight near a vase of tulips from her mother's garden. Unthinking, the small girl screamed, and as she screamed, every bit of exposed liquid in the room, from the water in the vase to the blood on her father's split lip, froze solid. The room's temperature dropped considerably, leading to a misting of breath in the air. Though when she ended her scream, the room was still cold as midnight on a midwinter night, and she dropped into a curled position on the stairs.
That night led to two things. The first was Paloma being brought for extensive testing. The second was her parents' divorce. The turbulent bouncing between two houses that followed caused her abilities to spiral. She could have descended into thinking that she should be better than they were, and at school, it seemed the took that route - but it was a shield.
It wasn't long before Paloma found herself in a safe space...the safe haven. She's been here for the last two years, almost, with her twentieth birthday approaching sooner than she would care to admit.
