Setting
Whisper House is a stone mansion with a small, gated courtyard built in the fluted and grimly ornate style of the eastern countries. An aura of stillness hangs about the house, and if it weren’t for the few windows showing dim light, one could easily believe this small manor abandoned, especially considering its location in a destitute and ramshackle part of the city. Even if the sun is out, one gets the impression that the skies above are unnaturally dark.
Besides flophouses and homeless camps set up in ruined buildings, the only legitimate business nearby is a tavern shyly announcing itself as "The Other Place."
It was said that magicians prefer living in secluded towers because they don't play well together, with each one wanting to be the most powerful. However, given the reputation most spell casters have, magicians in city’s with a higher population of magic users find that fellowship has its benefits.
Whisper House is home to the sorceress Ipleet “Mother Hen” Rastmere, a woman in her later sixties who served as an advisor in Riverstone, just west of Qadyrim, and aided refugees traveling south during the Antagonist War. A distant relative left her Whisper House when he passed away, and she began taking in destitute or lost youths with the gift of magic, training them in its use.
Eventually, she formed a an unofficial order of magicians for the purpose of amnesty, training, and fellowship. Those magicians who keep their gifts secret almost always find themselves at Whisper House when in need of guidance, information, or a place to practice their craft away from prying eyes.
A few In the Know citizens contact Mother Hen with offers of coin and services in exchange for contracting a magician for a specific task, and Mother Hen grudgingly obliges, so long as she judges the customer worthy. She will never, however, offer aid to any who would use a magician for evil ends.
When lesser fiends and strange beasts are found wandering the city's alleys and hidden places, most people blame Whisper House.
