"There are three routes you can go about with this, each with their own consequences. The first is..."
Likes: sailing, staring out to sea quietly and thinking, being with his nephew and nieces
Dislikes: hefty responsibility, conflict
Fears: making a wrong decision that will have very bad negative impacts.
Skills/Talents:
- He is very good at rational thinking. Quin can analyze a situation and see many different ways that one could approach the situation with, and predict what the results of each scenario would be. As such, he is a good fighter because where he lacks in outright skill, he makes up for in being able to analyse his opponents and exploiting their weaknesses.
- While other men are panicking or starting to charge hot-temperedly, Quin retains a cool head and patiently stops to think before he acts. Even when he is being indecisive, he maintains a calm façade that can influence and calm others around him.
- He is a strong leader on the battlefield when he has A) total clearance with authority (aka his brother) and B) thoroughly made up his mind. When under pressure, he makes quick, good decisions based on the short term benefit.
Weaknesses: His talent is directly affected by his weakness. Quin is terribly indecisive when it comes to big decisions thought out over a long while, and though he can plan many scenarios, he is either torn over which would have the most favorable consequence long term, or overthinks it and starts to worry that the outcome will be terribly unexpected and undesirable. During this time, he will actively seek out his brother or a good advisor for their opinion on the matter, especially if it involves politics.
General Personality: Quin is a very quiet and reserved man. He is a bit of an introvert, and prefers quiet companionship to wild parties. However, he is patient and can endure uncomfortable and stressful circumstances. He is calm in all situations except when pressured to take on a leadership role without consulting with his brother and king.
Because the salty sea spray often rusts away full plate armor, he does not wear it. Quin opts for a long chainmail shirt under a heavy dark blue surcoat with the Greyhardt sigil embroidered in silver thread. He carries a long slender sabre with a black scabbard and hilt. He names it Seabound, and its shining is like lightning.
General: Compared to the typical, strong, weathered Greyhardts, Quin seemed to be a ghost of a child growing up, meaning, he seemed fairly average. He was not sickly, but was very quiet and reserved, even when caught in the thrill of the hunt in the woods and engaging in sparring. He enjoyed those activities, but his main talents lay elsewhere. Quin was more intellectual, preferring to read and sit quietly and strangely still, just staring out the window at the sea and thinking. All day long, he played scenarios in his head, planning and planning for contingencies.
Quin formulated a strong belief that the salt sea stimulated thought, and very enjoyed sailing with his brother. He was quite good with games of mock naval battles and, when this was discovered, he was sent to be trained to lead the Greyhardt's fleets. When Nathaniel was taken away from the ships to rule on the throne, Quin was saddened to lose his sailing companion, yet relieved that it was Nathaniel that had to take on the hefty mantle of leading House Greyhardt. He felt guilty and torn with these conflicting emotions and to this day, still tries to make up for it by being completely loyal to his brother.
Quin was installed in his position of leadership by right of nobility, but has since then proved his worth by brilliant tactical executions and has won over the grudging respect of his subordinates.
Extra: His scar was the product of a cargo hook wielded by some sailor who decided to get creative during a naval battle. He caught Quin in the face and nearly ripped his face off. This may contribute to Quin’s paranoia about sudden and terrible changes in plan. He often unconsciously worries the portion of the scar on his lower lip with the back of his hand when he's being indecisive and/or worried.
