a character in “Alchemist's Waltz”, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Name: Hyde Duval

Alias: None

Race: Homunculus

Gender: Male

Age: 5

Appearance: Despite being only five years old, Hyde has the physical appearance of a wiry man in his mid-twenties. He has dark red, unkempt hair just barely touching his shoulder blades, which greatly contrasts his fair skin. Hyde's wild green, almond-shaped eyes reveal his feral nature at a mere glance. Standing straight, he reaches a height of 5'4", although he usually slouches, causing him to look more like a wild animal at times, rather than the human he appears to be. He possesses a tattoo on his back of a transmutation array which is used for healing. The only true indication of his inhuman nature are his fangs and claws.

Personality

Alchemical Talents: Due to the nature of his birth, Hyde has a vast knowledge of Bioengineering. Some of his more notable talents include his ability to heal injuries by using raw materials for living organisms and creating chimeras. Hyde's impatience for collecting these materials, however, caused him to improvise and simply break down the materials from already existing flesh; this is the reason why he always carries around raw meat. In the absence of both, Hyde will simply attempt to carve out a chunk of flesh from his opponent to perform the transmutation. Hyde's most important mark in alchemy, however, is his knowledge regarding the creation of Homunculi. He knows how to create the vessel for a homunculus, and how to split the piece of a human soul to insert into the vessel.

Personality: Hyde is the manifestation of his creator's more primal side. As such, he is short-tempered, selfish, proud, blunt, and disturbingly, lecherous. He's a Darwinist by nature, and can't quite grasp the concept of helping those in need. As the uninhibited side of an ambitious young genius, Hyde is a bit of a megalomaniac and as such has dreams of creating an entire race of Homunculi to conquer the world. (Of course, he'd just be happy to have a family of Homunculi...) After certain revelations, however, he has attempted to put on a facade of a charming young man, although his defiance of propriety tends to put most people off. Despite all this, however, he still retains his "father's" brilliant mind, and can be quite cunning (if ruthless) in combat and is fairly studious when it comes to achieving his goal. The majority of Alexander's memories, however, have been subjugated, and Hyde spends a fair amount of time trying to recall them.

Equipment

Apparel: Hyde wears a black fur coat which he usually leaves open to show off his physique, a symbol of his great pride. His coat has been modified to have numerous pockets to contain his many effects. He wears a pair of black cargo pants and boots for hunting. In addition to this, he also wears a pair of dark sunglasses to protect his extremely sensitive eyes. He also wears a pair of gloves to hide his claws.

Equipment: Hyde carries a large amount of knives in his coat. In addition to this, he carries a few smoke bombs and bags of raw meat. He also carries around a briefcase full of his creator's notes regarding Homunculi and Bioengineering, which includes copies of the regeneration array just in case he sustains injuries to the back.

History

History: Alexander Duval was a brilliant young alchemist from Northgate in his mid teens who, despite his incredible skill and innovative new breakthroughs in Bioengineering, was often overlooked and ignored simply because of his age and poor background. He persevered, nevertheless, in the hope that one day he'd be recognized for his talents. His dream was tarnished when an Academy professor stole and took credit for a thesis he had been working on regarding Homunculi. In disgust, he packed up his things, gathered all of his notes that haven't been claimed by the Academy, and left for the "Feral South" to conduct his research in solitude, vowing to return with a collection of Homunculi. He lived in a small hut that he made himself, and spent the majority of his time creating chimeras, and furthering his research. He theorized that if there are Homunculi living in sperm and the human mind, then why wouldn't there be a Homunculus living in the barest essence of all living creatures-the soul. He wanted to create a new race that was physically identical to humans, but with some of the abilities of a chimera. Alexander intended to give his creation the physical capabilities of felines; their flexibility, their fangs and claws, a tiger's strength, and their incredible night vision. In addition to this, he branded a transmutation array onto his creation's back so that they could naturally regenerate. After seven years of research he finally created a Homunculus. His new creation had to spend a month of "incubation" in a flask, otherwise it would die. During this time, Alexander was finding a way to age up his creation just in case those "close-minded idiots at the academy" tried to have it destroyed. Once its body was perfected, Alexander, although slightly uneasy at the idea of fracturing his very essence of being, split a portion of his soul and inserted into the vessel. When the Homunculus took its first breaths, and started to explore its new body, Alexander was elated! Alexander failed to consider a few things, however: 1) A soul is meant to be whole, 2) His uneasiness at the idea of splitting his soul conflicted with his determination to see this project through, which meant that he ended up removing the part of his personality that he was ashamed of, and 3) A Homunculus, when born, is technically an incomplete being, and 4) A Homunculus's first instinct is to become whole again. The Homunculus was a feral creature, incapable of speech, and immediately attacked Alexander. It devoured and absorbed the rest of Alexander's soul, gaining sentience. He took on both the name of Hyde Duval and Alexander's secret desires. Hyde continued Alexander's research, but instead used the souls of Chimeras for his new Homunculi. Unfortunately, while he was able to remove the chimeras' souls, he wasn't able to actually split them, and only succeeded in transferring the souls to newer and (in his mind) superior bodies. Hyde was disheartened to realize that one must be willing to split their soul. When he reached this conclusion, he also realized that there would probably never be any "civilized" Homunculi, as all subjects would probably remove the part the darker parts of their hearts, creating an entire race of brutes and savages. Hyde almost gave up after this revelation, but an encounter with an alchemist from Northgate made him aware of the existence of the Eternal Knowledge. He realized that, armed with this knowledge, he could possibly split a person's soul by force. He let the hapless traveler go, and gathered every single one of his belongings from the hut. He figured that he, not only a superior being but a native of sorts to the land, would be able to succeed where countless others failed. He then burnt down the hut, and ventured even deeper into the Feral South...

(Whoo! I really hope that I didn't make a Stu, but if it turns out I did, I'll go make the necessary edits. Sorry for the NPC death, but it was necessary for Hyde to come into being. Don't worry, he won't massacre everyone he meets in the actual RP.) :3

So begins...
