Rin's style is full of colour and is what Kieran calls "hipster-ish". Rin enjoys oversized shirts, jackets, and cardigans, often paired with a t-shirt she found in a thrift or charity shop, and mom jeans or skinny jeans that usually just skim her ankles. She adjusts and tailors her own clothes and as a result has quite a distinctive look. However, while her style is quirky, she can always pull it off, and while it can occasionally take a dip into the androgynous, is generally quite feminine.

Rin’s most distinctive feature is her long, curly, red hair, followed by the big blue eyes she inherited from her mom. She’s slenderly built but packs more of a punch than she first appears to, thanks to hikes and runs with her mom. Both of her ears have double lobe piercings, as well as a helix and tragus in her right ear..

Kieran is her best friend and she loves her in more ways than one, but their friendship is the most important thing to her. Rin has a crazy sweet tooth and is always found with some sort of sweets on her person. In her view, life’s too short for boring clothes and to be boring. She loves thrillers and binging random, weird Netflix shows that she finds. Running with her mom has always been her favourite time of the day, and lately their kickboxing sparring sessions have been a fun new challenge. She lives in Converse and even wore them under her dress to the prom.

D I S L I K E S
There were very few things Rin would say she hates, but Kieran’s mom is right at the top of that list, along with most fish and heels. Police dramas make her worry about her mom more than she’d admit and generally hits too close to home. Greasy food makes her feel extremely unwell. Hospitals make her feel nauseous. She isn’t built for hot weather, and would rather be under a foot or two of snow than in a heat wave.

Rin's personality more or less matches her appearance in that it's bright, fun, and yet relatively sophisticated. She's friendly, the type of person to bound up to somebody else and become friends over the course of a conversation. She's kind and friendly and the person that seems to be friends with just about everybody. She can diffuse a tense situation with just her presence and with sparking a gentle conversation. She can draw even the shyest of people out of their shell, but without putting them under too much pressure or making them feel uncomfortable. She's equally comfortable in small groups or large crowds.

But if she was a friend to everyone, she was a bully's worst nightmare. She was a foot shorter than some of them, but that never stopped her. She could tear them down and humiliate them with words, but if they tried to take her on physically, she was equally able to hold her own, thanks to her mom teaching her to defend herself from such a young age. Her fighting style was scrappy and as much a chance to get away than try and knock them away.

Some think that Rin's sunshine personality must be the result of innocence or ignorance, that she has no idea of the pain and the darkness in today's world. In reality, the opposite is true. She knew enough about her mom's work to know that there was bad people who did horrible things, and that sometimes there was terrible accidents that happened for no real reason. She saw the bruise on Kieran's side and heard her best friend's story and knew that the darkness was never far away. But she also learned that she could make her mom smile after even the worst of days just by being herself, and that sometimes she was the only person who could bring even half a smile to Kieran's face. She knows she can't fix everything that's gone wrong in the world, but her outlook is that if she can make one person smile for even a moment or make things feel a little less terrible, then she's made the world a little less terrible.

But she's far from a perfect saint. Trinity has seen the horrors this world has and is angry about all of them. She's scared, too. Scared that something will happen to her best friend, scared that something will happen to her mom, scared that something will happen to anyone she cares about. Even if Kieran isn't so sure, Trinity knows there's something out there. And at the end of the day, she's still basically a kid. She's afraid of the unknown, and that fear translates into anger.

Trinity is closest with her mom, to the point that Trinity would go to the station to do her homework just so she could hang out with her mom. They have their arguments, just like everyone else, but they never last for too long. She and her father are on good terms, but he was away more when she was growing up. But when she and her mom would argue, she'd go and spend time with her dad until they'd both calmed down.

Trinity was born eighteen months after her older brother. Her family hadn’t exactly intended to have two kids so close together, but it happened. Trinity was always exceptionally, almost stupidly brave, from the moment she could walk. It seemed that nothing really phased her. As soon as she was old enough, she was spending time with her dad out on the docks, helping him with whatever tasks she could. When she was a little older, she’d spend her afternoons after school with her mom. Her mother always made her promise to stay in the car or in the office, and Trinity pretty much always obeyed. She was perfectly happy just watching TV or writing a story of her own.

It was on such an evening, when Trinity was scribbling a story in the front seat of her mom’s cruiser, that her obsession with the supernatural started. She was eleven, old enough to understand and not to be pawned off by her parents. Her mom got a weird call, but went out to investigate anyway. There, she found corpses, seemingly drained of blood. She saw... something in the woods that evening, something that left her pale, shaking, and clearly terrified even when she got back to the car. She drove Trinity home immediately, and hardly spoke for the rest of the evening. It was harder than usual for Rin to get a smiile out of her, but she managed. She always managed.

It took almost two years for Elizabeth to tell Trinity exactly what had happened. A monster had jumped her, apparently intent on adding her body to those strewn around the forest. Elizabeth held them off long enough for an animal- something that looked like a wolf, but much larger, attacked the creature. It was there that Trinity's obsession with the supernatural started as she tried to figure out what exactly had happened, what was lurking in the woods waiting to attack her mother. Rin just wanted to know everything, anything she could to help her mom.

It was also around this time that Trinity found out about Kieran's mom. She can't remember exactly how she saw the bruise, but when she did, she was immediately concerned. Kieran spilled the truth immediately, and Rin felt a hatred like she'd never felt before. But she also felt a lot of fear, fear that one day she'd wake up to find that Kieran was dead. Elizabeth found Rin having a meltdown about this one evening, and Rin told her the whole truth, but begged her not to do anything for fear that her mom would retaliate against the girls, or that Kieran and her sister would have to be split up. Elizabeth found herself in a compromising position, but finally agreed to her daughter's wishes, but quietly approached Kieran to tell her that their house was always open to her, and that they wouldn't ask any questions she didn't want to answer.

Coming out was never an issue for Rin. When she was sixteen, her mom jokingly asked about boys while it was just the two of them. Rin didn't even look up from the Netflix show she was watching, and said, "Actually, I have a crush on this girl in English," and that was it. After a while, she admitted to her mom that "the girl in english" was actually Kieran. She didn't know how long she'd known, but she did. It's not easy, but Kieran's her best friend, and she wouldn't change or give that up for the world.

Trinity is a surprisingly good writer, but not many people knows about that. She's a talented showjumper but is a little rusty. Like her mom, she's incredibly logical and is good at spotting patterns and trends. She also has a surprisingly good singing voice, but not many people know that about her.

S T R E N G T H S
Rin is stronger than she looks and in good physical shape due having been running with her mom since she was old enough to keep up and having been horseriding from a relatively young age. She's brave and apparently endlessly cheerful and optimistic, and it takes a lot to break her spirit.

W E A K N E S S E S
Rin would do anything for the people she loves, including putting herself at risk. She's mildly dyslexic and while her spelling and composition skills are generally fine, she struggles with reading and reading comprehension. Geometry and trigonometry confuse the hell out of her.
