Setting
Breanna opened her eyes and yawned. Hm? I fell asleep on the couch again. She got up, headed towards the kitchen, opened the fridge and drank milk from the carton. She took a quick glance at the clock and realized she'd be late if she didn't move her ass. "Damn it! Why can't Katie be here at least one morning to tell me to wake my ass up!" Breanna complained to no one in particular. She put two toasts in the toaster then ran to her room and threw some sweats on with a plain t-shirt. She slid on some mix matched socks and slid down the hallway back into the kitchen. She buttered her toast quickly and packed up her bag. She threw on a hoodie and packed a toothbrush in her bag. I gotta hurry! Breanna locked her apartment door with two pieces of toast in her mouth then pressed the button on the elevator. "Damn, it won't come in time." So she took the spirals stairs. She slid down the railing without falling and finally got to the bottom. So opened the door and started running down the street, attempting to eat at the same time.
"Someone's late," Milan announced the minute she saw Breanna's quickly appearing form. She shook her head at her best friend's antics before pulling out an actual breakfast sandwich and a bottle of orange juice. "Here, eat. I can't have you passing out on me today." Then she observed Breanna's attire and sighed.
She wouldn't point out her friend's clothing choice today. They were running late for school and fashion wasn't the biggest deal. Besides, Milan had no choice but to show off. She woke up this morning earlier than normal and had nothing else to do but homework and rifle through her closet for no apparent reason. Technically, she'd been doing that for months now since Breanna revealed her slayer-ing or whatever she called it. It was a haunting thought...vampires and other things existing. Milan prided herself on being practical and realistic most of the times. Sure, she allowed her fantasies to get the best of her. But at the end of the day, fact was fact and fiction was what it was. And now that fiction seemed to coexist with reality...Milan didn't know what to do. But she wouldn't tell Breanna any of that.
"I'll accept this...for today," Milan told her friend as they continued on their trek to school. Milan refused to run. Being late to homeroom was not that big and if Mr. Crabs-on-crack had anything to say, she'd just flash him her signature smile. That always worked. Besides, Milan was wearing a brand new pair of strappy wedge sandals that went perfectly with her sapphire blue top that showed off her shoulders. She was not about to scuff these so soon. Shaking her head from her music, Milan glanced at Breanna, who was still partially trying to catch her breath and eat at the same time. "Anyway, where was Katie? I thought she was going to wake you up.
Breanna finally arrived and seen her best friend.
Someone's late.
Breanna exhaled and looked at her friend, then shrugged. I don't even have a good excuse this time. Except for Katie didn't wake me up... Oh well. Breanna gladly took the mini breakfast her friend handed over to her and smiled. "Life saver? I think so." Breanna noticed Milan looking at her poor choice in clothing and sighed. She's right. I look I got this from a thrift shop... Breanna shrugged it off and took a bite into the breakfast sandwich her friend had given to her. Breanna was usually late whenever her sister wasn't around to pick her up. It wasn't anything new to Breanna. She then looked at her friend's attire and sighed, yet again. She always looks so much better than me. I seriously need to get serious, or I'll be single forever. Breanna shivered at the thought. I'm 16 for Christ sakes and I haven't even had a boyfriend. Not one. Breanna ranted to herself in her thoughts. She drank the orange juice and finished the breakfast sandwich quickly. Breanna looked at her friend, while she was asking about her older sister and Breanna frowned. "She left really early again, and didn't bother waking me up so early.. I do have troubles waking up at the times she does, but she could still make an effort. Sheesh." Breanna sighed and remember something. "Oh right! I have to make a quick stop in the bathroom. I didn't have time to put make-up on this morning."
