Description

Davkul Mire

Image

Race: Nerion/Human Crossbreed

Magic:

Defensive Wards: Draws ancient symbols on a surface that diffuse magical attacks when in close proximity. Useless against physical attacks as they work by drawing on and using the attacks arcane power against it. Weakening the attack at the same time as using the sapped energy to guard against it. Fails when the wards power capacity is reached and the attack still has more energy than the ward. Ward energy capacity is determined by size, the larger the symbol is drawn, the more energy it can siphon and hold. A similar effect can be attained by drawing more than one ward in close proximity. A process called ward stacking.

Blood Wards: A warding technique that uses the same ancient symbols as defensive wards, but are drawn using the blood of the one drawing them. They act like defensive wards but instead of being purely defensive, they one who’s blood they are drawn with can set them to expend their stored energy in the form of an attack. This attack takes the form of an explosion of kinetic energy which results in the destruction of the ward. The radius and strength of the explosion is determined by the ward’s size and how much energy it has stored in it. Dav’s favorite way to use these is to draw them on his forearms, where he can use them much like shields, then get in close to detonate them. He is left unharmed because the detonation has no effect on the one whose blood is used to draw the wards.

Herbal Flash Heal: Plant matter is used as a sacrifice to flash heal injuries. Injures sizzle as flesh kits back together, burns peel away, and bruised flesh turns back to it’s normal tent. Greater injury requires greater plant sacrifice, though certain plants provide more healing power than others. Brain tissue and bones cannot be regenerated by this. Neither can it regenerate whole organ structures (ie. If you get pierced through the heart you can be saved, but if your heart gets ripped out of your chest and devoured, you’re boned.)

Summon Water Elemental: A eight foot tall Water Elemental is summoned by drawing a specific summoning circle on a surface and using magical power to invoke it. The drawing usually takes thirty seconds to a minute. The Elemental manifests for a total of fifteen minutes or until destroyed. Surprisingly it requires little magical energy to invoke the creature. Where the difficulty comes in is that it must constantly be fed magical energy and mentally dominated in order for the summoner to maintain control. Without mental domination through feeding it magic, it will go feral and randomly attack anything around it.

Summon Fiend (Marsys’ Familiar): Dav draws a intricate summoning circle, then uses magic energy to invoke a fifteen foot tall Hell Fiend which is soul bounded to his mother as her familiar. Since it is not his familiar, he can’t control it and whenever he summons it the creature immediately goes on a blind rampage trying to kill all around it. Being the son of it’s contractor, the beast tends to give Dav a little leeway by deciding to go for others first but would not be beyond ripping him to shreds if he was the only one around to kill. Or if he got in the beast’s way. Which is why Dav hardly ever uses this spell, and only as a last resort. He also makes sure to flee quickly as soon as he finishes pulling the monster into this world. The creature stays in this world for fifteen minutes or until killed, in which case it returns to the hellish land it originates from.

Nicknames:

Mire Born (This is what Nerions call Bastards, something that is signified by his Surname)

Pale Chest (This is what his tribe calls him, which is a result of his appearance)

Dav (This is who he introduces himself as)

Gender: Male

Age: 24

Personality;
Quite and introspective, Dav has learned to watch and listen rather than draw any more attention to himself than his appearance already does. Rarely acting on impulse, he resolves himself to making plans of his actions. Taking time to predict how things will go and the best way to get what he wants. Not particularly social, he tends to keep to himself and is unlikely to start a conversation unless prompted by necessity. Years being seen as the weak link have made him guarded to others as most in his community had violence on their mind whenever they bothered to approach him.

He tends to be logical rather than emotional. Seeing relationships with others more as business contracts used to create mutual benefit. He is ultimately motivated by the search for power, trying to reverse the position he has been in most of his life. Regarded as a weakling by his peers and community he ultimately wants to command power and respect over those around him.
Subconsciously, he has a soft spot for the weak and downtrodden. He sees a reflection of his younger self in their image, which manifests as sympathy for them.

Brief Description;
Dav stands at roughly six feet, taking more towards his father in this aspect as the average height of a Nerion is 6’ 6”. Due to his mixed heritage, he looks strange in comparison to both Nerions and Humans. He looks human from his feet up to his neck, with white skin and human features while also lacking a tail. However, up past the collar bone, his skin begins to change. It becomes red and more leathery, taking on Nerion characteristics. His entire head is bald and hairless, he has flat features and no nose. His eyes are elongated and thin, surrounded by bulging brow and cheekbones. His eyes are a faded yellow, and he has two horns located just above each of his temples. The horns are short and sharp, each a little over two inches long.

He has a wide and lipless mouth which houses short and jagged teeth which interlock with each other when his mouth closes. Due to his lack of lips, he has a slight accent (smile and talk without using your lips, kinda like that. He has trouble with the “pu“ sound). He has no nose structure, but when closely inspect two tiny holes can be seen where it should be. He does not have traditional ears, rather he has circular pads similar to a snake or a frog where they should be located.

His body, while not particularly muscular, is fit. Weighing around 160 lbs, he tries to keep limber and therefore keeps a more flexible rather than powerful physique.

He clothing regularly consists of mostly dark cloth. A dark cloak, covering a sleeveless vest and wrapped fingerless gloves. Dark cloth pants and leather boots. He has a large double sided dagger which is partially serrated on one side. He keeps the weapon sheathed on his lower back and out of sight beneath his cloak.

Skills/Abilities:
Gowing up, Dav was in competition with children much more physically powerful than him and who also got praised by their parents for wailing on him. So he quickly learned how to avoid open confrontation. Whether it be through keeping quietly to the shadows, or learning how to move swiftly around obstacles it would take other much longer to navigate. As a result he has become quite good at acrobatics and sneaking about.

Weaknesses:
His primary spells are defensive in nature, requiring an external magical attack to be effective. He also has relatively low magical stamina since his spells tend to draw more on the mana of sources other than his own. So when he uses a spell such as Summon Water Elemental which requires the use of his own mana, he may be unable to sustain it for the entirety of it’s summon length.

History:

Dav was born on the outskirts of a Nerion village located in a large swamp. His mother was a rogue shaman from another village by the name of Marsys, who lived in a small building outside the village. He father was a traveling mage who took shelter in the home after a long night on the rode. They were both interested in powerful obscure magics and there was an instant connection. Despite their connection, the mage left the next day, as his thirst for knowledge was to great to ground him in one place. Dav’s mother understood, accepting his departure.

Much to Marsys’ surprise, she found herself with child. Months later, she gave birth to Dav and word quickly spread through the village that the recluse had once again given birth. The first time being a few months after she had arrived in the village, as she had spent a lot of time with the chief when she had first arrived. She had tried to teach the child her magics, but the tiny brute had been unreceptive. So she left the child with the father he took after and moved to the outskirts of the village. Word quickly spread through the village of the strange bastard that she had conceived, as it bore no tail and had the body of a human.

Dav spent his early years in the care of his mother, who was determined to teach him all she knew. Long nights spend studying magics and drawing symbols, were much of the boys childhood. Most of the chores also fell to him, chopping wood, checking the traps, gathering herbs in the swamp. His mother was hard on him, trying to make him strong and he lived for the few times she would praise him.

As he grew older and developed into adolescence, his mother began to send him into the village to trade. She knew it would be hard on him, be she also believed it was yet another thing that would ultimately make him strong. The first trip ended with him limping home, bruised and battered with none of the items his mother had sent him with or for. That was the day he learned that no one in the village cared for him at all.

As the years passed, he got better at is trips to the village. Soon he was able to avoid his peers, who sought to put him in his place, and haggle for the goods he had been sent for. Eventually they learned to stop chasing what they couldn’t catch. Much to his mother’s delight, he also took quickly to the magic he studied and had quite the steady hand.

One day a few years after reaching adulthood, he noticed a large group of warriors headed toward the village center. He had learned to keep his eyes and ears open over the years, so it was easy to spot that something interesting was going on. It turned out to be a coup d’etat and a battle ensued amongst the chief and few loyal to him and the large group of warriors. The battle was quickly over, with only one remaining survivor on the side of the former chief. Even from the distance from which he stood, Dav could tell that it was Xandun, his half brother. He had certainly beat Dav enough times for him to remember his kin’s face.

Dav didn’t really know why he decided to summon the water elemental and help his half brother. Perhaps it was their bond of blood, perhaps Dav didn’t like the idea of an unfair one on thirty fight. Regardless, as the large elemental distracted the group of warriors, Dav helped his half brother from the village and into the swamp.

Later, after their mother had healed their wounds it was decided that the two would need to leave quickly. The would no longer be welcome in the village and many others in the surrounding area. Dav mentioned that a recruiter had recently come by seeking souls to fight for the king. At first Xandun protested, why should he follow his weak bastard half kin. Though his mother was quick to remind Xan that Dav had saved his life and he now owed him a life debt. Grudgingly Xan acknowledged his debt to his brother and the two set off out of the swamp and toward the capital.

So begins...

Davkul Mire & Xandun Icehide

Dav and his brother followed their new found companion through the streets of the city. Although they were moving at a brisk pace, Dav noticed the state of the area they were now in. It seemed to be much more rugged than the market square where he had traded the rabbit furs earlier. He briefly wondered if he could have gotten more for them in this area. Xandun spent most of the walk fantasizing about different ways to slay his half brother. Until he noticed his hunger, having not had anything to eat past midday and noticing it the darkness of night creeping in. Still, the large warrior kept silent, as he was to proud to admit his hunger to Dav so soon after their confrontation.

The two stopped with the Larthos they were following and Dav listened to her realization. Having found out that their shelter for the night was no longer assured, Dav though for a moment. “I suppose we will just have to find another place to spend the night then.” Dav noted as he began to scan the area.

Spotting a man who was in the middle of closing the doors to a large warehouse, he quickly turned to his new companion. “Hold on a moment.” He said to her before jogging off toward the man he had spotted. He spent the next few moments bartering with the man on whether or not the three could spend the night in the large structure. At first the man was skeptical, but when Dav motioned over toward his brother the man quickly nodded his head. Dav handed the man the few coins he had made earlier that day, then made his way back over to Aeka and his brother.

“The owner of this building has given us permission to rest there for the night.” He said in a slightly cheerful tone. He was happy that his bartering had been successful. “He said there is a well just around that corner…” Dav motioned to a bend down the street. “…and that he has just gotten a shipment of flour, which will make for better bedding than the ground.”

"Eh, okay. We probably could have found another inn, but, you paid him, so I suppose we don't have much choice now," The Larthos said, sighing. "Ah, man. I hate sleeping on hard surfaces. I always end up rolling over and then my wings get sore," She complained, stretching out her wings for emphasis. Sighing yet again, she shrugged, folding her wings. "Oh well. I'll live," She said resignedly. "Might as well hit the sack - literally, of course - it looks like it's getting late." The Alchemist punctuated this observation by entering the warehouse and glancing around. Flour wouldn't make the best of beds, but, she supposed, it was better than sleeping out in the open. Last time she had done that to save a few pennies, it had ended up raining, and she'd been sick for weeks.

And besides. Sleeping in this warehouse which her new travel-buddy had paid for meant she didn't have to spend any of the Elven noble- Err, HER "Hard-earned" money.

Dav was about to apologize for paying the man before consulting with his new companion, however she quickly seemed to accept the occurrence. So he merely nodded at her as she went inside the warehouse. He walked in the entrance behind her, but then noticed a bucket sitting by the entrance. “I’ll be just a moment.” He said as he grabbed the wooden object and headed back outside.

Xandun followed them inside, grunting at his brother’s statement. He was too hungry to care about much else at the moment. Moving out of the way for his brother, Xan made his way further inside. After a few moments of searching, he smashed open a crate and picked some of the stored food out of it. While he chewed, he walked over to one of the walls and set his axe against it. Sitting down on the floor, he munched for a while before finishing and closing his eyes to sleep.

A little ways away, Dav finished soaking his vest in the small bucket as he stood beside the small well in the middle of the street. He looked at it as he wringed it out, noting that most of the dried blood had been washed away. The holes and light red stains still remained, but the clothing was much better now. After hanging the vest nearby, he washed the dried blood off of his skin, then washed out the bucket a few times before filling it with water. He kept from washing his cloak, as it had gotten less of his blood on it and the black mostly masked it anyways. Picking up his vest from were it hung, he carried it and the bucket back to the warehouse.

By the time Dav got back, his brother had fallen asleep. He gently closed the door to the warehouse, hung his vest to dry overnight, and set the bucket of water by the door for in the morning. Sitting down on a few bags of flour, he shifted his cloak around to cover his bare chest then laid down and closed his eyes. Sleep came quickly for him.

(Give us a sec to get there. I'm gonna need a response or two first. XD)

Aeka tossed herself down on the flour sack, falling into a tranquil, if uncomfortable sleep. True to what she had said, she awoke early the next morning with a groan, sitting up and unfolding her wings. "Damnit!" She cursed under her breath, noting how sore she was all over. A warehouse of flour didn't make a very good place to catch some Zs, after all.

Standing up, she stretched both her arms and wings, glancing around. Several loud rumblings in her stomach notified her that bum or not, she still needed to eat. Quickly, her eyes settled on the broken remains of the crate Xandun had broken the night before. Tiptoeing past the slumbering giant, she removed a small case from the wrecked bin, the last bit of food that was left there. Popping it open, she confirmed her suspicions, removing six small biscuits from inside. Well, she could just divide those up evenly among the whole group, now couldn't she? One for her, one for Dav, one for her, one for big, blue and ugly, one for her, and one for her! Wait a sec, that didn't add u- Aww, damnit, she was going to have to share, wasn't she? That was so lame! She was hungry enough to eat a whale! Or an elephant! Or 42 cubic tons of muffins! Or all of the above, simultaneously!

Oh well. She'd live, she supposed. Now there was just the rather troublesome task of waking up her two companions. Then again, though, she knew just the way of making it easy!

"Soul Manifestation - Arms Alchemy," Aeka murmured, summoning the gigantic Laevatein on her arm. Swiftly, the massive weapon unfolded, its various prongs sliding backward and exposing the main barrel. Concentrating her power, she channeled a Spark Breaker through the gun, and, after letting it build up to full power, used Reinforcement to give herself the strength to turn the titanic, gleaming weapon upward. Then, she fired, letting the spell explode with incredible violence before it could reach the ceiling. She absorbed the flames on their way back down, just in case the warehouse might have caught on fire. Punctuating this loud explosion with her own obnoxious voice, she literally greeted the new day with a bang.

"AAAALLLLLLLLRIIIIIIIIIIGHT!~" She exclaimed loudly, dismissing Laevatein. "Wake up, sleepyheads! It's our big day!"

Davkul Mire & Xandun Icehide

At the loud noise, Dav half jolted, half rolled himself off of the four bags he had been sleeping on. After tumbling to the floor, he stood as quickly as he could, and grabbed for his dagger. He found naught but air, where his dagger should be sheathed. However, once he glimpsed Aeka , he quickly calmed down as he realized he wasn’t in danger. He also remembered the reason his dagger was missing, having lost it in yesterdays incident on the roof. Straightening his cloak, he started over to where his vest was hanging but was stopped by the voice of his brother.

“Damn it, bird kin! If you must squawk like your chicken cousins, then do it outside like them! Help me Mire Born!” Xandun yelled as he tugged on his horns. The large Nerion had jolted his head back when Aeka had giving her morning wake up call, impaling his large horns into the wall. Now he struggled to pull them free from the wall he was sitting against, cursing all the while. Dav, chuckled a little under his breath as he walked toward his brother.

“The great warrior Xandun Icehide and his battle with the fearsome wall, they will sing of it for ages.” Dav mocked his brother as he began to help the warrior pull on his horns.

“Silence infant horns!” Xan yelled in response as the two tugged and pulled, trying to free him.

“Haven’t, heard, that one, in, a while.” Dav responded with staggered breaths as he tugged. “Though, with, mine-” He was cut off as Xan’s horns came free and the two tumbled away from the wall. “…I won’t ever have to worry about getting stuck in anything.” He finished as the two lay on the ground, catching their breath.

“Aeka…” Dav started as he pushed himself to his feet. “…why did you do that?” He asked the Larthos as he made his way over to where his vest was still hanging. Xan, who had also gotten up, found the bucket of water his brother had retrieved last nigh an began to drink.

(Go ahead and take the three to the summons with the next post Tsukiakari if you want to, so we aren't keeping anybody up.)
