ImagePersonality:
| Quiet | Non-confrontational |Relaxed |Irritable |
Roman is a relatively simple guy who, enjoying his own company, keeps to himself. He doesn't mind hanging with other people, especially those he's closer too, but he's typically high on something when he is socializing which makes people more endearing than he would think them to be while sober. Because he has tendencies to bottle things up out of a want to avoid conflict, he can be quite passive aggressive. He prefers to mind his own business and expects others to do the same when it regards him, so he's a very private person. He's not completely cold, and can sometimes even be rather flirtatious if he's in a playful mood (or in a heightened state). Even then, he doesn't really do commit and prefers to just live life day by day, as that's what he's been doing since being on his own. He finds that doing this is most calming for him and prevents him from stressing out as he has tendencies to do.

He is easily irritated, mainly when he's dealing with a bad crash, or just if he's in a bad mood. When he's like this he can have a rather smart mouth or just close off as a whole. He doesn't like when people bring up his substance abuse problems, as he refuses to believe he has one. Should it ever come up in conversation, he gets rather defensive. Apart from his uneven personality, flaws and all, he is generally a rather nice person. He can appear somewhat standoffish because he can be so quiet to the point of coming across as rude, but when he cares about someone, he does so in full. He never intentionally goes out of his way to cause someone harm, although when he does end up hurting someone, he doesn't necessarily do much to fix it either.

Likes:
| Getting high | Casual Sex |Candy |Naps |Puzzles |
Roman loves sweets. While his tough and dark exterior might suggest the opposite, he has a big sweet tooth and consumes more sugar than he should. His favorite type of candy is chocolate anything, mainly Reese's Cups. He also really likes Red Vines, mainly because they don't have them back home. When he's not earning cavities, he likes to sleep and watch television. He enjoys drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes and weed, activities he tends to partake in especially when waiting for the next high. While Roman can get overwhelmed by people easily, he does like walking around the city and sitting in parks, enjoying the weather. He will usually do this if the apartment is starting to feel to small or if he just needs to get out to breathe some fresh air. Because the coffee shop is right across the street from the apartment, he frequents there a lot to appreciate the atmosphere and maybe even a nice dessert and a cup of tea.

While he doesn't really like doing much of anything, just from being worked too hard as a child, sometimes he gets angsty if he sits still for too long. While some of things he does to get rid of this feeling might be questionable and/or illegal, a lot of the times he'll frequent the gym. Exercising is one of the few laborious tasks that he doesn't mind doing, especially since he has to keep up with his physique what with being a fighter. In exchange for the janitorial work he does for handler, he gets some work out time and does his best to utilize that time whenever he can. And although he wants nothing to do with school, he still enjoys giving his mind a little workout from time to time as well. He likes going through puzzle books like Sudoku and solving crosswords.

Dislikes:
|Confrontation |Crashing/Bad trips |Expectations |Failure |His addiction |
He can find someway to dislike anything depending on his mood. Mainly pesky sounds and loud people are the things that bother him the most. He doesn't like people who are constantly bringing drama with them or who are openly confrontational. One of the major things that gets under his skin is when people bring up his addiction. He chooses not to acknowledge, somehow reasoning that if he pretends it's not a problem, it really won't be. No matter how false he knows this is deep down, he still attempts to hide it as best as he can, because even he doesn't like knowing that he can't control himself. Although a lot of (trivial) things can bother him, he'll never really address them and instead tends toward passive aggression. That being said, he doesn't like being confronted about issues. Roman isn't one for commitment or sentiment, not because he has anything against either, but just because they make him uncomfortable a lot of the time. He also doesn't like being asked about his past as he refuses to address it himself. To do so would bring up internal problems he's yet to solve, and is not ready to do. He does many things to distract from this, and one of them is by avoiding complication when he can, whether that means avoiding people or situations. This can make him come across as disinterested, and while sometimes it might be true, most of the time it's due to his not wanting to make a mistake as he hates messing up, even though he knows that he's currently doing nothing to benefit him.

Due to his being born in a well off family, he was already destined to have a successful future. The fact that he turned out to be somewhat of a prodigy seems as if it would have helped him even more. It was clear before he even started school that he was exponentially gifted. Throughout his childhood, he was pushed to win and achieve nothing short of greatness. He was fueled by good marks, competition, and high expectations. By the time he was ten, he was already enrolled in university courses and before he had his driving's permit he was doing independent research at the collegiate level.

Despite his apparent success, he was really only valued for his talent and therefore associated his worth directly with it. As soon as he faltered even the slightest, he would internalize that perceived failure. His parent's distant but tough relationship did nothing to better the situation and in fact helped lead to a multitude of problems for Roman as a kid that led to a few mental breakdowns. Instead of sending their child to a therapist, they instead medicated him, thinking this would subdue the problems. By the time he was eighteen, he was nearly burnt out and full of a lot of resentment towards himself and his family. After quitting the PhD program he was enrolled in (by the choice of his parents), he moved to New York, simply to get out England and because he had relatives who lived there. He only stayed with them momentarily before moving out on his own.

To the average New Yorker, his Thanksgiving probably seemed rather pathetic and lonesome. After not going to sleep until eight that morning, it made sense as to why he was just now waking up, but for a day off, it didn't seem too out of the ordinary, and for him, despite it being the middle of the holiday season, today still felt like a regular day. He'd been in the States for a few years now, but still hadn't taken to all the holidays, Thanksgiving included. Of course, he wasn't so arrogant and nationalistic that he would refuse a holiday that consisted of a huge dinner, but it was also a rather familial holiday, as most are. But that was the thing about holidays. It was great for people with nice families, but for others with strained relationships, it was a not so gentle reminder of how isolating your situation was. Roman had never been close enough to his family for big holidays to bother him too intensely; combined with the fact that this was just another Thursday for him, and he was well rested, he would call it a pretty all right day.

After lying with his head under his pillow for ten minutes, he slid his hand across the mattress until it came to his phone. There was a text from Brooklyn from earlier in the day, inviting him to Cara's dinner. When he saw the time, he was half surprised himself, mostly because he felt he could take two Xans and sleep to the following morning. While that option was enticing, his stomach was insisting on a different outcome thanks to it being over twelve hours since he'd last eaten anything. Roman didn't have any plans for fairly obvious reasons and didn't mind just making a sandwich, especially since the thought of that dinner put a bad taste in his mouth--or maybe he just needed to brush his teeth. Looking over the text again, though, the invitation seemed more compelling, although it was probably his hunger that was responsible for that.

To: Brooklyn

offer still on the table?

After taking a shower to wake himself up, as going back to sleep still seemed very enticing at the moment, he changed into the first hoodie he found and combed his fingers through his hair in quick, haphazard motions. By the end, he didn't look too much different from when he woke up, but at least he smelled better. His phone showed a text from Brooklyn, saying, "Not really. Your roommate is about to get kicked out, and I'm leaving in a minute anyway." Reading it only forced him to roll his eyes. He'd already gotten showered and dressed (although anyone could throw on a hoodie and pair of pants without complaint), and for him, that was enough to justify his stubbornness in changing back to his original plans. Although Brooklyn hadn't said it explicitly, he knew it had to be Cara throwing a tantrum over someone breathing on the food the wrong way, so there was even more of a reason for him to head out the door, out of spite. As he texted her back, telling her, "Too bad. I'm already on the way," he began wondering if maybe Brooklyn was also being dramatic as she had a tendency to be, but when he heard another door close shortly after he opened his own and saw Jesse standing outside of it, Roman figured that perhaps Brooklyn wasn't stretching the truth.

"Evening," he said to Jesse as he walked towards him. Roman seemed somewhat amused by the scene, but not at Jesse's expense. Even though he wouldn't ever admit it out loud, sometimes he found Cara's impracticality humorous. Of course, if he knew the exact reason as to why Jesse was put out in the first place, he wouldn't think it was so funny, and would actually agree with Cara's choice. But as of now, for all he knew Cara had simply overreacted to something. He considered asking Jesse what happened, but was still waking up and his body was starting to protest as it always did if he didn't immediately take something after waking up. Also, he figured well enough that he would hear about it from Cara herself if she was the one to answer to door. Instead, he glanced at Jesse, noting his demeanor silently. "What do you think the chances are of me still getting a plate?" he said before knocking on the door.

If there was anything that Brooklyn could agree on with Cara tonight, it was that what Jesse said was uncalled for and inappropriate. Even she was surprised by the sudden switch in his demeanor, but as she turned her head to watch what was going down in the kitchen, from the safety of the living room couch, she assumed that he wasn't suddenly going bipolar, or something, but was just acting abrasively out of frustration. She was sure that the lack of attention she was giving him had something to do with it, but even Brooklyn wasn't conceited enough to think that her actions had that much power over anyone. Maybe he really just was very intolerant of Holly, even if her cry for Cara's reassurance had nothing to do with him. Maybe he was intoxicated, in which case she would have to roll her eyes at how much of a lightweight he must be. Maybe, however, there was something more behind it. Spending Thanksgiving with a bunch of friends who weren't that close to you, meant that you didn't have many (or any) other enticing traditional family offers. While Brooklyn had come to terms with her own situation long ago, she knew that not everyone else was as cold as her. People couldn't turn their emotions on and off like a light switch, so maybe Jesse was stressed out, or frustrated, or upset, even, that this was where he was on a holiday that was based around being thankful for family and all. It didn't excuse his behavior and it definitely didn't make him seem any more attractive, especially as he kept up with it as Cara pushed him out of the apartment, but Brooklyn wasn't going to crucify him for not being the relaxed and go-with-the-flow guy that even she could admit he normally seemed to be.

Since technically, it had been her fault for sending Holly over there, Brooklyn felt obliged to get up now and enter the scene that she might have caused. It seemed like something she was morally obligated to do, but also, Collin had not read her text yet, and she didn't feel like waiting any longer for a drink. "Boys are stupid, Holly. They don't know anything. Never believe a single thing that a boy tells you, ever," she said in a certain tone, as she busied herself with refilling her glass in the kitchen. She completely brushed over Cara's direct complaint towards her because she definitely hadn't done anything to ruin the night. As far as she felt, she was actually well-behaved given the circumstances. This was just one more instance of Cara trying to act like she was the victim in a situation where she had not been wronged at all, and Brooklyn didn't even want to humor it.

Holly had come into the kitchen in search of reassurance that what Brooklyn had told her was nothing more than a myth, only to find herself at the center of an unexpected verbal assault by Jesse. The fact that it was so unexpected was probably a good thing, because combined with her tired state of mind, and how she was still focusing on what Brooklyn said, it was harder for Holly to process every word that came out of Jesse's mouth. She knew that he was being mean to her, but the cursing and some of the insults didn't resonate as much as they would have, had this occurred a few hours ago. She was confused about it all, and her expression reflected that as she watched Cara force Jesse out of the apartment, before coming back to announce that the night was over and ruined, and that Collin and Brooklyn needed to leave. Brooklyn seemed to act like she had not even heard Cara, though, confusing Holly a bit more, and addressed her instead. Even though Holly didn't think that Brooklyn's blanket statement over boys was completely true, she nodded, only to make herself feel better. A few hours ago, she would have countered the claim to say that Weston was a boy, and he wasn't stupid, but she was too tired to do so right now. "Is Makayla ever coming back?" she said then, only now realizing that her sister had been gone for quite some time. She wanted her sister to return not only to make her feel safer, but because by now, she was actually ready to go to bed. It was still quite early, even on Holly-time, but the events of today left her feeling more lethargic than normal days.

"Get your shoes and we'll go see what's taking her so long." Brooklyn was still planning on going through with her plan involving Collin, and she sent him a sultry smile from across the room to signal that he wretched sister had not ruined her vibe, but she could put that on hold for a little while. She would act like she was helping Holly because she had a heart, but really, it was because she didn't want Cara to think that she was the philanthropist in all of this for taking care of Holly for the rest of the night. She didn't need the other blonde giving herself any more pats on the back than she already did. She didn't want Cara to jump in and insist that Holly stay put, so she was glad that Holly moved surprisingly swiftly in meeting her by the door a few seconds later. With her refilled drink in hand, Brooklyn was content with changing the course of her plans for the moment, but once she opened the door, had only wished that they had moved a bit slower, because Jesse was still outside the door. Roman was there too, which was reassuring for more than one reason. For one, Brooklyn hoped that Jesse was more likely to act cooled off around his roommate, and secondly, Brooklyn was just happy to see Roman after it had taken him hours to answer her text message earlier. She had assumed he was sleeping, and was probably right about that, but still, she was just glad that he was alive and awake now, even if it was a little too late. "I told Collin that you were probably coming over to get food," she lied to him, ignoring Jesse entirely. "Holly and I are just going to see what Makayla's up to, but I'll be back in a minute if you wanna go in and make a plate or something," she said to Roman as she passed by them. Because she was with Holly, and didn't want to even risk Jesse opening up his mouth again, she didn't give Roman much time to answer as she headed a few doors down, to the one that Holly and Makayla lived behind. Since she was with Holly, she felt no need to knock, and opened it with little caution as she gently pushed Holly to enter first. Inside, she found Jude, Olivielle, Deja and Thomas. "Is her sister here?" she asked, placing a hand on Holly's shoulder, as she looked mostly towards Jude, since she was the one she knew best.

"Alrighty then, we are outta here," Tony declared, though not to anyone specifically or to really incite conversation. Just to talk. Though, her next few words, were directed a bit louder to Weston who had wandered off to his bedroom. "I'm leaving the door unlocked. Don't be an ass." There was a muffled retort that was probably him telling her to go fuck herself, a nice little brand of expletive-laced comebacks that Wes was more inclined to when he was under the influence. Which only made Tony grin like a little shit as she held the door open for Sam before letting it close behind her. Just as her own door closed, she heard another door close and considering it's direction, she figured it was Deja's. However, Tony hadn't had long to think on that or even who could've entered because her eyes eventually fell on Roman and Jesse.

"Hey, boys," she greeted with slightly narrowed eyes, a small hint of an acknowledging smirk towards Roman before taking in Jesse's tense shoulders and countenance. Peeking over their shoulders to what was Cara and Brooklyn's closed door, Tony raised an eyebrow and then glanced at Sam. "If you wanna go ahead and give that to Deja so y'all can get this party started, you can. I'll be in in a minute." Tony didn't know what had happened, and if she did she would be less inclined to give a flying fuck about what had crawled up Jesse's ass and died, but her natural impulsion to protect those she considered hers was activated, even with the alcohol already in her system. In fact, the alcohol only seemed to fuel it. Under most circumstances, unless the person specifically decided to vent to her about the problem, she let people calm themselves down. Didn't want to deal with the bullshit emotions and all of those other things that didn't have anything to do with her. If the person wanted to talk, they knew they could turn to her on their own. However, when it came to Jesse, Tony decidedly went against her usual tactics, which was why she found herself, pie still in hand, walking closer to Roman and Jesse. She stopped in front of her friend, staring him dead in the face as she spoke. "You good, big guy? Anything I need to worry about?" She turned to Roman a bit and inquired, "You know what happened?"

Jesse was annoyed when Cara closed the door in his face, but he wasn't about to slam on the door and demand to be let in again. While he was pissed off, he wasn't angry -- at least not by Jesse's standards. An angry Jesse only usually emerged when he was very intoxicated, and it was a form of him that was easily identifiable, because it usually involved him throwing punches at anyone who looked at him the wrong way. It wasn't a common side of him at all, and he didn't think that anyone in the building had ever even seen him in a state like that, but it was certainly one that existed somewhere deep inside of him still. This Jesse was one that wasn't anywhere near that point yet, and since he hadn't drank much, there was still time for him to recover. He could still have a good night, or at least that was what he told himself. He still had Deja's as an option for tonight, and Tony's as well, since he didn't know that she was getting ready to head over to Deja's as well. Besides, if things got really bad, Jesse wasn't opposed to having a few blocks over to one of the many bars that he was sure would be open, even tonight on a holiday. Being dismissed in the way that Cara and her brood had done to him had definitely put a damper on his evening, since he didn't want to admit any fault in it happening, but he wasn't going to let it ruin his evening entirely.

Roman's appearance caught Jesse by surprise, slightly, but mostly only because he hadn't seen Roman all day, and had actually assumed that he had slept overnight somewhere else. It wasn't really uncommon for them not to cross paths, even being roommates. Roman worked a lot, and seemed to be out a lot at night, and asleep during the day, and Jesse worked full time during the day, and did his best to be social and out-and-about on his free time. Regardless of not frequently actually hanging out with Roman, he found him to be a compatible roommate, if only because he was never problematic. "I'd say you've got a point one percent chance," he offered, releasing a sigh in an attempt to mellow himself out. "Cara's in one of her moods. Just told me to leave for basically telling her brother that Brooklyn's way out of his league. You'd think she'd thank me for doing her a favor, but I'm over it, man. It's always the hot chicks who are the crazy ones." He was going to continue and explain that he was heading to Deja's next, and extend the invitation to Roman then, when Cara's door opened. He assumed that it was going to be someone answering Roman's knock, but instead, Brooklyn and Holly emerged, and quickly, in passing, Brooklyn explained to Roman that he could go inside to get food, and that she and Holly were going to find Makayla. "I still think she's going to bite your head off if you try and go in there right now, but that food was worth the risk. It was a good fucking meal, and she has enough leftovers to feed the tri-state area for the next month," he offered, though he still doubted that anyone going in there would be a good idea. In his mind, if Cara was so serious tonight, to an extent where she would lash out on him, there had to be something majorly wrong with her that was making her act like she had a stick up her ass.

Before Brooke opened the door, Roman listened quietly to Jesse's venting. He was mostly reactionless except towards the end when he couldn't help but raise a slight brow to himself at the notion of 'hot chicks.' He wasn't sure if he was referring to Cara or Brooklyn and quickly ran through a dialogue in his mind that he pressed silent on. Roman wasn't stupid. He knew both girls were pretty, and since he didn't particularly care about Cara, it didn't mean much of anything when other guys declared it. With Brooke, it was mostly the same and he wasn't going to punch anyone who called her pretty, but because she was close enough to a sister to him, he also didn't exactly enjoy those declarations either. Still, though, he wasn't overprotective in the physical sense and the most he ever gave in terms of a reaction was a small look, if that.

As if on cue, Brooklyn and Holly emerged into the hallway before just as quickly disappearing. He turned back to Jesse and shrugged some as he grabbed the door knob. "Even better for the both of us. No need to stay for twenty minutes out of politeness," he said. Jesse was probably right that as soon as he walked in he'd hear something for it, but he'd already made it this far and by this point, a simple sandwich just didn't sound appetizing when a full course meal was just feet away from. Before he got the chance to go inside, he heard Tony's voice. At her question, he thought for a second, decided he'd had more than enough conversation for the evening and that he really just wanted to get something to eat. So instead of offering Tony the truth, hoping to keep things short, he answered with a short, "Nope," and disappeared into the apartment.

When Roman was gone, Jesse looked to Tony then. Part of him wanted to give as simple of a response as "nope" too, but he was also closer to Tony than that, so he knew that he had to give some explanation for why he probably looked annoyed. "Your friend Brooklyn's been stirring the pot all night, and somehow Cara found a way to blame me for it. You gotta learn how to keep your girl on a leash, Tones, and while you're at it, make sure she's got my number too, alright?" He smiled, trying to prove to her that he wasn't as tense as he probably seemed, and to himself as well. "Time for Deja's?"

Tony's eyebrow was still raised when Roman replied in the negative about knowing what was wrong with Jesse and disappeared into the Forrester apartment. When the door closed, Tony turned the look back to Jesse. Luckily for her patience and his sake, he provided an answer of sort. She had been prepared for some bullshit "I'm fine" or "It's nothing, babe." As much as it would probably feel insulting to her considering how close they were and to her intelligence, she wouldn't have been surprised. Thanksgiving wasn't exactly the day people wanted to tote around bitterness and vindictive tendencies, though the reminder of Brooklyn's "plan" for the evening definitely said otherwise. Yet and still, Tony had readied herself to call Jesse's bluff if he decided to try to wave whatever the situation was off, so she was a touch surprised at what she considered to be honesty on his part. Granted, she didn't know the full story. So, while her eyes were still narrowed in contemplation considering how genuinely angered he had appeared a few moments ago as opposed to the annoyance he wanted to portray, she didn't feel inclined to push too hard. "Sure thing, babe," she replied to his request of getting him in Brooklyn's good favor and keeping the blonde in check. Considering Tony thought that no one but God - and what a horrible job he was doing at it thus far! - could keep Brooklyn on a leash, she was pretty certain that she wasn't going to be able to do much other than hold on for the ride. Especially when thinking about the storm Brooklyn wanted to have a hand in brewing.

"Might as well," she said in response to him inquiring about Deja's, grinning good-naturedly as she continued. "I'm too sober for any of this shit and there's like, five cups of alcohol calling my name from out here. Let's go." She led the way to Deja's apartment, not even bothering to knock at all, but instead opening the door and charging on in. "I brought pie. And alcohol. Sam brought it in, but I made it so I'm just saying, there should be a Deja and she should come and love me." Tony exclaimed and walked into the apartment, grinning at the occupants. The joy didn't even falter when she saw Holly, though she was a bit confused as to why the child was about, especially considering they were definitely not about to be up to anything kid-friendly. She had walked in on the tail end of Holly's spiel, which included something about needing glasses and looking like a nerd. "Don't know what I just walked into, but I'm pretty sure, regardless of what that was, you'd look like the cutest nerd on the block if you did wear glasses, Hollz."

Collin was just as surprised as everyone else when Jesse shifted from being cocky, but in a sort-of personable way, to being downright aggressive and angry. Collin was in no way, shape, or form equipped to take on Jesse in anything, be it beer pong or a real fight, but he could take the verbal lashes that Jesse sent his way. It didn't bother him very much, because the way that Jesse was talking to him fit the persona that he had always associated with Jesse. He was too confident in himself, had a big mouth, and loved to provoke people. Most of the time, he was far more tolerable than that, and Collin could actually say he liked him, but he knew that Jesse also possessed this side of him that reminded Collin of the popular guys that he used to go to high school with, who thought they were superior to everyone else for superficial reasons like being an athlete or banging one of the hottest girls on campus. It was more eye-roll inducing in Jesse, who was in his mid-twenties, but since it was normally coupled with a more playful and likeable side of him, Collin could never say that he really disliked Jesse for it. However, he had never before seen the man transform from that, into someone who was berating Holly for absolutely no reason.

Collin understood that everyone had a bit of a bias towards Holly, in a way that they probably wouldn't have if she was a normal sixteen-year-old. Holly was too pure and innocent to be considered normal, and though it induced an urge to protect her (even from someone like Collin, who couldn't say that he was that close with her), it mostly made him feel pity towards her, or at least sympathy. It was apparent to most people who knew her that something was "off" there, and at least to Collin, that meant that she probably had dealt with enough problems (or would in the future), to deserve anyone else dampening her spirits for no reason. That was why he assumed most people humored her going off on bizarre tangents in the middle of conversations, or being loud and rambunctious. If you were anything less than tolerant towards her, it kind of automatically meant that you were a bad person. It was like kicking a little, helpless puppy. Whether you were pissed about it yelping all night long or chewing up a pair of your shoes or not, you still weren't allowed to hurt it. That was why it was all the more appalling when Jesse spoke to Cara, referencing Holly in quite offensive ways when she was standing right there. Collin didn't blame his sister at all for throwing Jesse out, and secretly, he was also glad that she did because he sensed that the tension Jesse was sending him could have translated into physical aggression sooner then later. As Collin would readily admit, he wasn't going to stand a chance in a fight against a guy like him.

What he could blame Cara for, though, was the way that she suddenly wanted to turn around and somehow blame him for the bad ending to this night. Brooklyn caught some of the blame too, which made Collin want to stand up to Cara just to seem like he had more of a backbone in front of the girl he was oddly trying to impress tonight, but even intoxicated, Collin couldn't really pull himself out of the relationship that had existed between himself and Cara for the past twenty years. She called the shots, and for some reason, whether he wanted to or not, Collin always seemed to listen. It was only when Brooklyn and Holly left, and he was alone with Cara, that he expressed his discontent. "You know the night went really well until you just pulled that scene, right? I'm pretty sure everyone would have remembered it as being a nice time if you didn't go into typical Cara mode," he said, trying to sound as assertive as possible, though he was still doing what she wanted as he grabbed some empty cups from the living room and tossed them into the trash. The sound of the door opening had him pausing in his attempt to head back into the living room, though, and since he was close to the door, he was the first to see that oddly enough, it was Roman Killens who was opening it. AKA the absolute last person that Collin needed in here, given his sister's mood. "Uh... hey, man. It's not really a good time over here or else I'd invite you in, but if you're looking for Brooklyn, she just left with Holly. Heading to Makayla's place, I think," he said, trying to keep his voice low enough to evade Cara's ears.

"Righhhhhhhht, Collin. Everyone would have remembered Brooklyn metaphorically being on her knees for you all night as being a nice time. You are dis-gusting. You're a horrible brother to even talk to her! To even look at her, when you know how she treats me!" Cara said, her tone becoming very dramatic, as if she truly believed that Brooklyn treated her horrifically. Brooklyn did like to get under Cara's skin, but if roles were reversed and Cara was the one whose boyfriend had slept with Brooklyn, Cara knew that her own level of pettiness would far surpass what Brooklyn had thrown her way so far. When the door opened, Cara was knelt over, placing the bottles of partially consumed liquor back into the lower cabinet she stored them in. "Tell your girlfriend that she needs to go find some other place to sleep for the night. I'm going to keep the vacuum plugged in right outside her door, all night long if she decides that she's staying here," Cara warned, assuming that it was Brooklyn.

Collin rolled his eyes at that, hoping that Roman understood that that was a perfect example of why this was not a good time for him to be there. "It's not her," he said, purposely avoiding saying Brooklyn's name, since he knew that she and Roman were friends, even though it was probably obvious that his sister was referring to Brooklyn, given the context. "It's Roman," he admitted then, knowing she was probably on the verge of coming over to look anyway.

All it took was his name for Cara's blood pressure to rise to an unhealthy level, and she shot up from her position on the ground, rounding the corner of the island so she could look at him from a few yards away. "Get out. Your heroin-dealing friend isn't here, your five-dollar whore isn't here, and you certainly aren't welcome here either. O-U-T. Out," she snapped, pointing towards the door. Clearly, Cara wasn't a fan of Roman. He was obnoxious and rude and his presence just always seemed unnecessary. "You know what!" she continued, glancing back at the counter tops that were still covered in dessert. There was a pie sitting, covered, in one of the far corners, that Cara had purposely left hidden, because she didn't want anyone touching it. It was the pie that Weston had dropped off from his sister, and Cara would be damned if anyone ate that and acted like it was the best dessert there. She was half-convinced that Antonia had poisoned it anyway, so what better reason than to pass it along to scum-of-the-earth Roman Killens, and let him see whether it truly was safe to consume or not. "Actually, take this," she said, grabbing the dessert from the counter and walking back to the door to extend it towards the boy. "Take this, and eat it, and don't bother me again."

Roman didn't expect a warm welcome, especially when he didn't fare particularly well with either of the Forresters. That being said, he wasn't exactly expecting what he walked into. As he walked in, Collin quietly telling him that it wasn't a good time, Roman was only a breath away from explaining that he would be in and out before Cara went on raging about something. Roman simply raised his brow in Collin's direction before frowning at Cara's reaction to his own name. It seemed that Brooke had left out a few details because if he knew that the situation was this severe, he very gladly would have kept his ass at home. As Cara yelled at him, he rubbed his face, exasperated. While Cara walked over to him with a pie, he was half sure that she was about to toss it into his face, and was more surprised when he saw that she was just giving it to him. "Don't quite fancy that flavor," he said simply. "Brooke told me to come and try some of the food your underpaid maids cooked. So, if you'll be so kind, I'll be in and out without a word."

"You of all people should know that beggars can't be choosers," Cara said, shaking her head as if it were a shame that Roman wouldn't take the pie. She decided that she would either throw it out, or give it to Holly to take back to her apartment tomorrow. "So no, I will not be so kind. Get out," she reiterated, again making a shooing motion with her hand towards the door. She headed back into the kitchen then, setting the pie back down on the counter, as she spoke to Collin, knowing that Roman was probably at least still in the doorway. "Maybe we'll get lucky, and Jesse will knock him out tonight."

Whenever Roman knew he would be interacting with Cara, he told himself that he wouldn't start anything. However, almost each and every time, he got into situations like this where it became especially hard for him to not indulge himself. He bit his tongue at her quip, holding back a slew of insults he had ready for her. As she left, shooing him away, Roman knew there was no point pressing the issue, although he was definitely more awake than he had been a few minutes ago. As he was about to leave, he heard Cara's last words and couldn't help himself as he opened the door. "And if you're really lucky, maybe you can fuck someone's boyfriend tonight. Know how you like that."

When the door clicked shut behind Roman, Cara glared in Collin's direction. "They all need to get some new material," she said, her voice hinting at annoyance, but not raging with it as one might have expected. She was used to the references to her night with Nick by now. She didn't like them, but with how frequently Brooklyn held it against her, she tried to think of it as one more reinforcement that Brooklyn (and those linked to her, like Jude and Roman), were just bitter because Cara was better than Brooklyn. She won, Brooklyn lost, boohoo. It was time to get over it. "But you're a really wonderful brother for letting some piece of garbage talk to me like that, Collin. Definitely good to know where we stand. I'll remember that."

Sadly, Collin wasn't flabbergasted by the scene that just unfolded. He was all too used to Cara being incredibly disrespectful to people who were different than her, and Roman Killens seemed to top the list of people who she liked to sling insults at. In his sister's defense, like right now, it wasn't like Roman was an innocent party in all of it either, but he still wished that Cara could, for one, just keep her mouth closed and try to be the bigger person. She couldn't keep her mouth shut, but he could, and on that note, he didn't acknowledge her final remarks as he gave her one final look of disapproval before retreating to the hallway bathroom, where he read Brooklyn's texts, proceeded to have a mini-panic attack, before texting her back, and getting ready for an adventure that he wasn't sure that he was prepared to embark on.

Brooklyn forced Holly to promise that she would never bring it up again, but it took the blonde making up two bedtime stories on the spot, before Holly actually fell asleep. It was only Brooklyn's luck that led Holly to insist that watching the TV wouldn't help her fall asleep, and that she was sure she wouldn't be able to sleep if she didn't have a made up story about a giraffe and a pink rabbit to dream about. Begrudgingly, Brooklyn fulfilled her end of the bargain, but unfortunately for her, it took longer than expected for the redhead to close her eyes, and by the time she did, Collin had had too much time to think.

He was back in their apartment, staring at his reflection for a good five minutes as he pondered what the hell he was doing. Even drunk, with this time to himself, he realized that this was a bad idea. A really bad idea. Not only would he have to deal with the awkward aftermath of all of this tomorrow with Brooklyn, but when Cara would found out about it... and God only knew she would... he would find himself in a nightmare. His sister was already problematic as it was, so the last thing that Collin wanted to do was give her one more reason to run her mouth at his expense. He couldn't do this, he couldn't do this. He needed a way out, and he knew that he couldn't abandon the plans and then stay in the apartment, because Brooklyn was bound to just knock on his door if he did that. He decided that he still needed to leave and go to his father's house, but he just wouldn't take her with him like he originally planned. He knew that it was probably a transparent lie, but once he was already boarding an Uber to head uptown, he sent Brooklyn a text explaining that he was sorry to bail so suddenly, but there was a family emergency he had to take care of at his father's house. While part of him really did hope that she would text him back and say that it was no big deal, and that they would talk in the morning, another part of him hoped that she would just never answer, and that tomorrow, they could go back to completely ignoring each other like they had done since Brooklyn moved in with Nick long ago.

Brooklyn was just leaving Tony's apartment when she got the text, and though it annoyed her in the obvious sense of disliking the idea of being blown off, she wasn't drastically upset. It was a hiccup in her plan, but she told herself that maybe it was meant to be that Collin didn't hold up his end of the deal. Maybe she wasn't as ready to move on from Nick as she told herself she was, even if it was for such an important reason, like destroying Cara. It was only when she was back in her own apartment, relieved to find the kitchen and living room free of Cara, that she remembered that Roman had texted her while she was with Holly. She hadn't even opened up the message at that point, so she glanced at it now, reading: "p sure cara needs an exorcism. or a human sacrifice. you actually almost murdered me". She wasn't surprised, really. Sending Roman in to get food right after the blowup with Jesse wasn't the best idea, but in Brooklyn's defense, she had texted him to say that. It wasn't her fault that she felt obligated to pretend he was welcome when she was face to face with him. That was just her being polite, and when was Brooklyn not polite? However strongly she felt like telling him that that was his own fault now, she decided to be a good friend. She took out some of the food that Cara must have just packed away into the fridge back out, and piled as much of it as she could onto a plate, before returning the original dishes to the fridge. She considered heating the food here herself, just so that she could boast about being that good of a friend to Roman when she saw him, but she was too lazy to, and she didn't want to waste any additional time here, and risk having to deal with Cara again. Instead, she headed back into the hallway, now with the plate of food in her hand, and knocked on Roman and Jesse's apartment door. "Open up, bitch," she called out through the closed door. "I'm here to accept my 'nicest friend on earth' award."

Roman returned to his room and by that point he was no longer annoyed with what had happened. For a moment, he sat on his bed, allowing his drowsiness to take over before the jittery feeling got the best of him. Like with any medication, he knew he shouldn't have taken it on an empty stomach, but by this point, he'd abused his insides enough that any small misuse such as that was arbitrary, and it didn't compare to how he'd feel if he didn't take them at all. He dry swallowed three Kpins before heading to the kitchen and finding there was nothing to drink. Sure, there was a little bit of soda left and he wasn't against tap water (anymore), but he had a craving for something syrup-y. The small sip that was sitting in the fridge would only taunt him, but that didn't stop him from going ahead and indulging. By the time Brooklyn knocked, he was already on the way out the door, coat on and cigarette in place between his lips. He was starting to get anxious waiting for the Kpins to kick in--he should have let them melt--and figured a quick smoke and trip to the store would be a good time waster. Although it felt like his heart was accelerating, on the outside, he still looked collected, and he even managed a smirk when he saw her. "Afraid you came to the wrong place," Roman said, leaning in the doorway as he placed the cigarette behind his ear. "But I'll accept the offer," he said, taking the plate from her. As he eyed the food, he pushed the door open with his foot and nodded inside. "You do know I eat, like, twice this amount, right? You've seen me around pizza."

Brooklyn had to physically bite her lower lip, rolling her eyes, as she kept herself from unknowingly mimicking Cara and telling Roman that beggars were in no position to be choosers. She knew that he was only purposely being annoying, because that was really the basis of their relationship, so she opted to let him off the hook for that one and walked inside of the apartment. "Be happy that I brought you anything," she eventually said, once she had helped herself to a seat on the couch. "As you got to witness first hand, Cara's not in the peppiest of moods tonight. Which is normally fun for me, but I've spent every minute since you last saw me with Holly, which means that the last thing I needed was anyone else fueling my headache." She didn't have a headache, and with a comfortable amount of wine and hard liquor in her system, she was actually feeling quite nice, but she would feign the illness just for the dramatics of it. She considered leaving it at that... letting Roman heat up his food, inquire about where he was headed off to, and maybe inform him that he was also lucky that she was here overall, given that she had plenty of other people she could be hanging out with at that moment (which wasn't exactly true, but she would still use it against him), but now that she wasn't going to be sleeping with Collin tonight, she didn't have an outlet for the pettiness she had built up inside of her today, and so, she continued to speak. "And while we're on the topic of that raging whore... isn't it weird doing Thanksgiving like this, this year? Aren't you sad that you aren't third wheeling on me and Nick's traditions?"

"Aren't you sad being cold and bitter the whole while?" Roman began while he placed the food in the microwave. He easily could have eaten it as is, since he was hungry enough, but as was evident from his encounter with Cara and Brooke (although the latter was clearly not serious), he wasn't starving to the point that he couldn't wait to warm the food up for a few seconds. While it heated, he got a glass of water from the tap and then found himself sitting beside Brooke, his legs stretched out across her lap as he dangled a piece of turkey over his mouth. He was purposely being obnoxious just because he was in front of Brooke and he knew that she knew that. The basis of their relationship was grounded in banter and them getting some kind of response from the other. "Besides wasn't your tradition just fighting and having make up sex?" Roman said, which would have been a low blow in the right context, but he winked quickly before putting more food in his mouth and squinting his eyes at her. Through a mouthful, he said "Gross, is that a fucking zit on your face? Right fucking..." Instead of leaving it there, and solely for the purpose of annoying her, he took his foot and pushed it into Brooke's face. "There."

Part of the reason for why Brooklyn knew that Roman was only being an annoying jerk when he accused her of breaking out was that that was just what their relationship was like, but she also knew for a fact that he was making things up because Brooklyn knew that her skin looked good today. She wasn't obsessed with her appearance in a way that was incredibly obvious. She wasn't the kind of person who stopped to look at her reflection in every single mirror that she passed, or used every free moment reapplying lip gloss or touching up her eye makeup. She wasn't like that, but she also was vain enough that she did put more time (and definitely more money) into her beauty regime than a lot of people did. Her spending habits were actually one of Brooklyn's biggest downfalls. Being a stripper wasn't an ideal job, and when she did school projects as a kindergartener, she definitely wasn't listing it as the job she wanted when she grew up, but there was no denying that in New York City, there was a nice market for strippers. Brooklyn worked at one of the more high end clubs, which meant that the job was even more profitable. On a Friday or Saturday night, depending on how many hours she put in, it wasn't incredibly uncommon to walk out the door with a couple grand. At the same time, there were other times, like on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, or if she ended up with an early shift, where she would only make a couple hundred dollars if she was lucky. Still, though, it clearly was not minimum wage work, and if Brooklyn knew how to manage her money, she would definitely be doing very well for herself. Not at a Cara level of wellness, because that was essentially unattainable to anyone who didn't come from a Rockefeller or Rothschild bloodline, but well enough where she would no longer be considered part of the working class.

The issue that Brooklyn had, though, was that spending money had always been therapeutic to her. If she made eight or nine thousand dollars a month between stripping and waitressing, she usually only ended up saving a thousand of it. She spent around $1600 on rent and bills, and the rest was recklessly spent on clothes, makeup, eating out, alcohol, and depending on her state of mind, drugs. She wasn't like Cara, even, though, where she ended up with much to show for it. Especially with her job, she went through makeup like it was nothing, and because she enjoyed shopping so much, she was almost purposely reckless with her clothes and things, so that she could give herself an excuse to buy new ones when they ended up stained or torn or scuffed up too much. It was bad, and immature, and reckless, especially given that many of her arguments with Nick revolved around her reaming him for being financially insufficient, but it was one of those things that Brooklyn would probably never take responsibility for. Although she talked about how badly she wanted to be living a higher class life with stability and normalcy, in reality, she never did anything to actually help herself get there. She was all talk when it came to that, though she would never admit that.

"You're really annoying, you know that?" she said to him, swatting his foot away and standing up as her mood quickly transformed into one reeking of annoyance. She wasn't genuinely angry, but she didn't like being touched, and having Roman's feet near her face wasn't a position that she was keen on remaining in. "With the way you eat, you're the one who's going to be breaking out like a thirteen year old going through puberty, so you shouldn't even be joking about that. And when that happens, maybe I'll abandon my bitterness for a minute and lend you this Estée Lauder blemish serum that I bought the other day so that your skin will look as flawless as mine," she said, attempting to allow her annoyance to dissipate in favor of being more positive and playful. As she headed away from the couch and into the kitchen, in search of something to drink, she continued to talk to him. "Or actually, maybe I won't. I think we can both agreed that you're already in debt to me enough, can't we?" she called out.

Roman stopped in between bites as he narrowed his eyes at Brooke's back, his smile disappearing and being replaced in favor of something that matched how Brooke was feeling after he pushed his foot into her. He couldn't blame her for bringing it up, and he knew she wasn't being completely serious, but it did quiet him. Earlier in the year had been burdensome, to say the least. After moving to New York, which he did to partially prove a point to his parents, he was purposely reckless, also for the purpose of proving a point. Even though his parents had raised him in such a way to lead to a lot of problems as far his mental wellbeing was concerned, when it came to scholastics, they had quite the opposite effect. He was incredibly proud and arrogant, believing that everything he wanted, he deserved. Even after he moved out, he still had a large part of this mindset and it was why and how he blew through the majority of the money he had started with. Because he was so dissociated from the reality that he was actually no better than anyone; that he wasn't ahead of the world nor was he immune from struggling. And while he thrived off of that, it also bothered him. He didn't believe he had any limits because he'd defied them all in his childhood, but that really only made him want to find it even more. He was too good to fail, but he was also tired of always succeeding.

That was why gambling quickly became a problem and a solution for him. Growing up, and constantly being told of his 'extraordinary' achievements and prodigy, he both desensitized and required that reality. Despite it being regarded differently by everyone else, for him, there wasn't much too math and physics and everything in between. It just made sense. And with his life being completely formed around that, he felt he already had the world figured out, which was seemingly great for someone so young, but it also felt like shit being eighteen and feeling like you were reaching the end of all the 'wows.' And with it there was no instant gratification. It was mostly just about securing his future and making sure not to disappoint his family; any gratification that came out of it, the approval, had long since stopped being pleasurable. Gambling gave him a taste of both sides. Roman didn't like being wrong, about anything. And more than that, he hated losing. If you're not first, you're last was how he was raised and he took loses as personal insults. For someone who was exhausted from all the expectation that was put on him, he still sought after them; he still felt the need to defy them, even if he's the only one placing them on himself. He grew up playing with chances and beating them every time with no effort. When he gambled, it fed into his arrogance, but it also came from a feeling of necessity. He needed to feel like he was achieving at something, he needed to be told no long enough to make him want to prove it wrong. It both sustained him, and destroyed him.

Because of that, it didn't take long for him to become just as reckless with that, and for him to learn just as soon that he wasn't invincible, but that only kept him coming back. Months ago, he borrowed money from a loan shark, and never paid him back until he was finally caught and threatened to do so. Needing quick money, he entered an underground fight, but ended up in the hospital the next morning. After his aunt and uncle found him, agreeing to pay the bills as a loan only if he could prove he was financially stable and not getting into stupid shit, he was essentially out of money. If he couldn't come up with the proof his family was requiring, he'd be stuck with the bills and be out of the inheritance he was already an inch away from losing. After totaling up what he owed the loan shark plus what he needed to show his aunt and uncle, he was still short and asked Brooke to cover him. He hadn't given her any context, only that it was an emergency and that he'd pay her back and explain everything as soon as possible. But after having to move out of the apartment to a cheaper one until he replenished his money, that promise didn't end up being a reality. Now, though, things had evidently cleared up a bit since he'd moved back in and paid back the gambling money, but he still owed Brooklyn about $1200.

He forked more food into his mouth, using that as a way to stall, otherwise Brooke would see that he was thinking too much on the subject. "You're not getting shit until you learn to place nice," he finally said in an apparent weak attempt at humor. Feeling it was too obvious that his mind was elsewhere, he continued. "There's actually a little supply and demand problem with the underground thing," he said. "Would you believe people actually don't want to get the shit beat out of them all the time? Crazy stuff." Roman went to shovel another forkful into his mouth before realizing he was actually getting thirsty. He saw Brooklyn helping herself in the kitchen and figured that she was getting a drink herself. Seeing a good opportunity, and in another attempt to be smart, he prefaced his words with a sly smirk before continuing, "Jager's in the cabinet if you feel like having a personality tonight."

"Don't make me have to get a hit put out on you, Killens," she warned. The use of his last name was all that was needed to show that she was being playful. While Nick had always made it a habit of calling Roman by his last name when they were a friend group as a trio, it just had never felt quite as natural coming out of Brooklyn's mouth in an everyday way. She reserved using it for certain situations. Although she was purposely bringing his debt to her up not only to make him shut up, but also as a reminder, she wasn't urgently looking for the money. She didn't need it right now, but friend or not, she was going to get it back sooner than later. Brooklyn wasn't the type to give no strings attached handouts to anyone, no matter what the reason for doing it was. "I'll find someone who'll kill you and sell your organs on the black market to get me my money back and then some," she claimed, though her head was still in the fridge as she spoke. Typical of a guys only apartment, there wasn't much intruding in there. To her, it appeared to be mostly beer and food that was probably too old to be consumed, or were leftovers from someone's meal. Nothing that was appetizing to her. The suggestion of Jägermeister was intriguing, even if she wanted to tell Roman that unlike him, she didn't need alcohol to have a personality. She just needed worthy company, which he clearly was not. "I only drink Jager with Red Bull, or pineapple juice and Malibu. Have either of those, or are you the cheap bitch I know you to be, which means that we're going to have to go next door and steal some from Makayla's place. It's full of drunk bitches right now, so we have a better chance of walking off with free alcohol from there than we do from Cara's stash." Brooklyn had her own stash of alcohol in her apartment, but drinking alcohol that she paid for was a lot less fun than drinking someone else's.

"Hard pass," Roman said, the amusement in his voice completely emptied. Even though in a few minutes he would be fully relaxed and unbothered, right now, he wasn't there. He was still sober enough to not like crowds or rooms full of people, especially those he barely spoke to. It wasn't that he was a total hermit, although granted it probably seemed that way when he could sleep for two days in his room without warning. No, he did have a tendency to go out and drink too much and regret it the next day, but that was almost always by his own accord--something he controlled. He could tolerate people and even enjoy them when he wasn't sober, but it was when he actually got a craving for some social interaction because even shutting himself out from a lot of potential relationships had a negative effect on him from time to time. As of now, though, Roman wasn't feeling socially deprived, and even more, he had to see these people all the time, which made him even more reluctant. Although Brooke wasn't saying they go there to stay, in his mind it wasn't totally implausible for them to stay longer than he wanted. If it was possible to just walk in and walk out, he'd be fine with it, but he knew that wasn't the case. Of course, as good of an excuse or not any of that was, it was telling that he didn't take into consideration the fact that he shouldn't be drinking at all because he'd just taken prescription medication. Roman was tempted to tell her to just drink it straight because it's not like anyone drank it for the taste, but instead he went with, "There's some pickle juice in there. Bet that would taste good." He got off the couch then, cleaning the last bits on the plate that he'd just inhaled as he went over to the kitchen as well. Roman knew he was being a bit of a buzzkill, and that was mostly because he was still pretty much sober. Not wanting to go next door, and also wanting more food, he looked to her and said, "Don't you have enough alcohol to poison this whole floor anyways?"

It wasn't surprising that Roman wasn't interested in socializing with anyone, even though it still made Brooklyn roll her eyes. She wasn't the type of person who liked more than a handful of people in their apartment building either, and though she was generally seen as standoffish by a fair number of people, she was never as opposed to being around people as Roman was. She supposed that it was just because she was okay with being more blatant about her distaste for people than he was. Roman was definitely standoffish in his own way, but it was usually felt in a more indirect manner, through his curt responses, or stoic stares, or comments that hinted at how uninterested he was in other people. Brooklyn didn't like most of their neighbors any more than he did, but unlike her, she could at least see opportunities of having to deal with them as having positive sides, whether those positive sides were chances to provoke drama, or getting free alcohol or food. If she was bored enough, or felt like those benefits outweighed sitting at home alone, then she wasn't opposed to dealing with other people. His comment about the pickle juice only led her to decide that this was one of those nights where she could get something out of dealing with the immature people across the hall for a bit. "Possibly," she responded to his inquiry about her own stash of alcohol, "But it would be idiotic to drink my own liquor when other people have some that I can treat myself to," she reasoned aloud. "I was just over there. It's Deja, that guy Thomas, Sam, Tony, that girl Olivielle, Jude, and Jesse. Makayla's on drugs and hopefully passed out by now. If that crowd really isn't your type, then you could always try and sweet talk some liquor out of Cara's stash. Clearly you just have a way with words when it comes to her," she remarked sarcastically.

"Go to hell," Roman grumbled as he rolled his eyes at Brooke's ending comment, sliding the plate across the counter and towards the bin. He could ever so faintly feel himself slowing down, like the smallest bit of light at the end of the tunnel. After tossing the plate, deciding to ignore Brooklyn for the time being while he stalled, he opened the fridge just as she done, as if she'd somehow missed an assortment of foods and drinks. Unsurprisingly, the fridge offered nothing spectacular. He didn't even know why he was looking when he was on his way out for that exact reason, but this time he was more annoyed even though he had no reason to be. He was still hungry, but the solution was a lot closer than it had been before Brooke came over because there was no sheer possibility that he would have gone there instead of somewhere outside. But still, this was Roman, and when things inconvenienced him in the slightest, they bothered him in the biggest way possible. He closed the fridge and turned around to face Brooke reluctantly, knowing he didn't really have a choice by this point because there wasn't any chance that she'd bring him food again, especially when there was no risk of him getting kicked out just upon entering. Before she had the chance to gloat, because it was apparent on his face that he was about to agree, he felt the need to anchor his submission with a snarky remark. "You know you're a piece of shit, don't you?" Walking past her now, and not feeling the need to go across the room to retrieve his keys just so he could lock the door, he went straight to it and opened it. "Let's go then. You're doing all the talking."

Brooklyn couldn't help herself when Roman responded. She had to grin at how he reacted to being cornered into accepting her proposal for their next move, because seeing him swallow his pride was always laugh-worthy. She could laugh, but she couldn't deny that she and Roman weren't similar in that respect, where they were abrasive (albeit playfully towards each other) when things didn't go their way. She would never say it to him, but she appreciated that Roman could be just as blunt and callous as she could be. "I'll distract them with my undeniable charm, and you just grab whatever alcohol you can," she said, her voice more cheerful now at her apparent success, even though she wasn't exactly surprised by it. She didn't like to back down, so not getting her way normally wasn't even an option for her. "No one'll notice," she said, before reasoning aloud, "No one really cares about you anyway." She headed towards the door, now and said, "Aside from me, of course," as she passed by him and punched him in his arm with intention of it landing in a way that was too hard to be considered playful. Roman was used to being hurt physically, and Brooklyn wasn't claiming to be Mike Tyson, so she doubted it was actually going to wound him, but she hoped it at least left a bruise. It was payback, but it still wasn't full payback for him touching her with his foot.

Roman didn't immediately react to Brooke's hitting him, although he did feel it. Instead, he simply closed the door behind them, saying "You know, one day I'm gonna start hitting you back," although saying that wasn't entirely truthful since he wasn't entirely chivalrous with Brooke when it came to the don't hit girls rule. He wasn't one of those assholes who misconstrued gender equality to passify problematic actions, and it was mostly because he was close enough to Brooke to feel comfortable with being rough with her. Of course, it was only okay if he did it. In general, he wouldn't consider himself being overly protective of Brooklyn, especially since she could carry her own, but there were a few things that a guy could do to easily set him off, and touching her aggressively, even in a playful manner, would bother him. But the extent of the relationship was abrasive in most respects, verbally and physically, and nothing was ever taken too seriously. So there were times, quite normal occasions actually, where he would push her back or slap her across the head, as he did once they got to the door. Roman half-heartedly pretended to have done it accidentally while in the process of knocking on the door, "Oops," he said, deadpan, before knocking. While they waited, he began to smirk, as if he'd just thought of something funny. "What was it you said? Charm? You?"

"I'm going to kill you one day, I hope you know that. And I promise you that your body will never be found once I do." Roman's response to her punch deserved a greater show of force than the first punch, but she decided to leave him with a verbal threat only now, just because they were across the hall already. She could hear voices inside the other apartment, and expected someone to come to the door sooner than later, so she wasn't going to start an all-out childish slapping fight with Roman here. He would get what he deserved, just not right at this second. "And I actually shouldn't be surprised that you're surprised by that. My charm only comes out around people who can afford it," she stated, a hint of a smug smile on her face as she did so. Surprisingly, she wasn't lying when it came to that. Both of Brooklyn's jobs revolved around being pleasant and likeable to make money. If she had even a semblance of the attitude she held onto in her personal life as a waitress, she would come home with no tips, and not only did she have to abandon her attitude when working as a stripper, but take on an entirely new persona that made it seem like she adored attending to sleazy men. She liked money too much to hold onto her pride and bitterness at work, and the amount of money that she usually came home with attested to how she could pretend to be charming when she wanted to.

Jesse was tempted to call Dane out of not including him in the final roundup for the poker game, but he was aware enough to know that that would have crossed the line of being unnecessarily petty. They had been talking about playing poker since Jesse had walked through the door... even he and his ego knew better than to act like he was not being included from the game at this point, even if they seemed to already be starting without him. He decided to look on the bright side as Thomas, who Jesse had suddenly deemed to be a pathetic loser tonight, took control of the game across the room, and looked as thirsty as ever surrounded by Sam and Deja, while doing so. The good thing about this, was that now he could get his one hundred dollars worth of fun out of Makayla without anyone else trying to interrupt them. He doubted that any of them would even realize it, if the duo slipped away into Makayla's bedroom, but just to be safe, Jesse figured that going to his apartment would be the easier answer. His roommate, Roman, was likely there, as Jesse highly doubted that he had succeeded in getting into Cara's apartment, but that didn't bother him much. Roman was a quiet guy, a roommate who knew how to mind his own business, and Jesse returned that favor to him, too. He doubted Roman would mind or take notice to him bringing Makayla over, especially since it wouldn't be the first time that it happened.

"I wish I could say I made it," Jesse said to Makayla, a feeling of ease washing over him at her words, as if her mere ability to form a coherent sentence automatically told him that she wasn't as gone as she had seemed a few minutes ago. "But I'll give credit to Tony on this one," he continued, taking another bite out of his own slice of pie. "Maybe I'll get her to join us for round two later," he said, and even if he didn't have that much expendable money, he'd be willing to slide an extra bill to Makayla if she was down to help him fill that fantasy. "But first, let's get out of this snore fest for a few minutes. My place," he instructed her, as a comfortable smirk fell onto his place. "For old times sake." As if she were a dog, Jesse figured that Makayla would be more likely to follow if he pulled her plate of food out from the coffee table and lifted it into the air. He helped her off the couch, wrapping an arm around her to ensure that she was as stable as possible as he led her towards the door, with little else said as he truly was trying to make this move as subtle as possible. Just as they got to the door, however, someone knocked on it from the other side, and Jesse groaned internally, though he hoped that the music inside was loud enough to drown out the sound of the knock to the others. As he opened the door, he found Roman and Brooklyn standing on the other side. While he normally would have been polite and allowed them to step inside before he stepped outside, he took the lead and led Makayla into the hallway before they could come in, offering only an "Excuse us..." in acknowledgment of their presence.

Deja shook her head playfully at Jude. She too was going to blame him for Liv's sudden disinterest in poker.

The lanky man meekly shrugged his shoulders at her and Thomas before retreating to Deja's bedroom. There he found a moment of solace before retrieving his camera and returning to document the events to follow. Though he was disappointed that Olivielle seemed put off by his subtle rejection, Jude needed to stick to his own set of morals. He figured that he and Liv would be a bit buzzed and relaxed by the time the evening came, not plastered. He just couldn't bring himself to take advantage of her. Even if she did want something more than a semi-romantic evening, he knew that it was completely wrong to do anything less than gentlemanly while she was intoxicated.

"Oh, no, no," Deja blurted to Thomas who was suggesting making deuces into wild cards. "We're going to play straight poker. No deuces or anything crazy. Just look at your hand and lay it down," she said too triumphantly. Deja took a moment to think, deciding which version of strip poker would be the most fun. "Oh!" she suddenly exclaimed, "and we're gunna play it so whoever has the highest hand gets to decide who has to strip." She added a playful wink and a silly pouty face, thinking it would add effect, when she said this.

"Everybody ready?" Deja asked as she sat down, looking between her friends with a goofy grin. It was then that she had realized that there was a knock at the door and she hadn't imagined it. "Hold on," she said quickly, "just deal the cards, I'll be right back!"

Before Deja could maneuver her chair and around the crowd of people the door was already open. Deja was mildly confused by the exchange and not completely sure which party was with who as Jesse passed by Brooklyn and Roman with Makayla.

Like a baby doe Deja stood for a moment in awe, her eyes drawn wide. A burst of energy struck through her skin body as she bowed to them and motioned them to enter. "Welcome to my humble abode," she said in some version of a cockney accent. "Come in, enjoy the wine and the company." Deja said simply before returning to the table.

Jude had positioned himself casually enough in the kitchen to be approached by Liv, but he didn't want to initiate anything more. He was honestly so unsure of himself and whether Liv was actually annoyed with him or even mad at him. Jude figured he would stay near enough to remind her of his presence, but not get the way if she really wasn't happy with the way he had pushed her away.

"Hey!" Deja suddenly called after seating herself. "You're that Roman kid, right?"

In the midst of everything, Tony had zoned out, her typical light smirk frozen in place as all of the interactions occurred around her. She was usually a lot more lively and especially more willing to down alcohol as if it were merely water. Any other day and she would've immediately found a stash of playing cards and would've been five seconds from ripping her current shirt off of her person, just to level the playing field for Olivielle since she was wearing a dress and Makayla seemingly just a sweatshirt. She would've insisted that everyone do a round of shots just before the game - and yet, she was distracted. Once her brain had started to tell her to be a bit wary of Jesse and Makayla's interactions, Tony couldn't tell it to shut the hell up. It was frustrating. For all intents purposes, Tony trusted Jesse, maybe a bit more than she trusted a few people in the apartment. He was crazy, but he wouldn't...do anything foolish, right? She couldn't even explain why she felt so uneasy when she had looked at the two, but for some reason...she hadn't really known them to be super close since she had moved into the apartment building. And so them acting friendly right now and with the fact that Tony really couldn't honestly be the only one who noticed that the brunette didn't look so good...

"I'm right behind ya," she called to Dane, opting to take her cup with her instead of just setting it down. She didn't really feel like finding the trash can, but she did manage to glance over at Sam to add, "I'm gonna go check on Mc-Can't-Hold-His-Liquor over there." Which sounded like a pretty decent explanation, in Tony's head. Everyone knew that despite her typical devil-may-care attitude, the one person she was always going to be extremely worried about and could always be used as an explanation for her distracted disposition was her brother. He was a minor who didn't really indulge in alcohol and she was his legal guardian. Tony was allowed, even in the midst of what should have been adult fun for herself and friends, to want to check in on him. And not focus on the fact that Jesse and Makayla had left out together, and that still rubbed her the wrong way. Nodding to the others, Tony headed towards the door, not even stopping when she saw Brooklyn, but definitely mustering up a bit of her typical attitude when she interacted with the blonde to jest, "For someone who claims to want a little wifey in the future, you sure do move on quick." She grinned at her friend, but continued on out the door. She only glanced sideways at Jesse and Makayla in the hallway, and smiled at Dane, but then she was entering her own apartment.

And saw Holly on the couch.

Tony rolled her eyes, already knowing who was responsible for that. "That sneaky bitch," she grumbled, closed the front door quietly and then tip-toed her way to Wes' room to check on him. At least both of the kids were asleep.

When Jesse and Malaysia slipped past, Roman took small notice. He'd seen them in the apartment together before, so seeing them didn't seem odd, but he picked up on a weird vibe nonetheless, one he didn't explore readily. One, because he didn't know either of them that well. And two because, as bad an excuse it might have been, they weren't bothering him.

Deja's interesting invitation was also distracting enough, what with the faux accent that he hoped was an impersonation of him. He didn't know her well, and it was clear that she was drunk, but she also seemed to be lively in general. As he and Brooke entered the apartment, passing Dave and Tony, Roman considered making a joke about how Brookes presence was that deterrent, but Tony beat him to making a smart remark, just as Deja got his attention again.

Stuffing his hands in his pocket, he took a step toward where the group had been seated. He knew he was assigned alcohol duty since Brooke, joking or not, was pretty accurate in her description of his lackluster personality. Around his friends he was notably more vibrant, but like now, around strangers, he was pretty stiff. He felt less of an internal groan to the unanticipated reaction though. More apathetic to socializing, but not in his traditional sense of having no interest in it whatsoever. He was simply a bit more at ease, though his body language probably still didn't show that much openness.

He didn't come anywhere close to matching Deja's energy, but considering on a different, less pharmaceutically influenced day, he would have simply given her a curt nod and perhaps a tight, emotionless smile, the fact that he was conversing was notable, although probably not very apparent. "Yeah. I guess," he said coolly, before mumbling in a half attempt at humor, "Not unless there's another Roman in the building that I don't know about." He looked towards Brooke then, offering a short, "You know any other Romans?" before addressing Deja again, although his eyes didn't meet hers. "But yeah, Brooke wanted to say hi quickly," he said, adding the slightest amount of emphasis on the quickly part. "You're...Deja?"

This Roman was funny enough. She was too drunk to be able to tell if he was insulting her or making nice, either way Deja offered a light chuckle to his remark. "Oh, he's a smart ass." she said dubiously, almost whispering it to herself instead of trying to get a laugh out of her friends. "I'm afraid I don't know any real Romans," Deja said matter of factly, "But I suppose Roman, who is actually an Englishmen, will do." She finished this line with far too much pride, thinking herself clever.

Deja ignored his comment about Brooklyn. In any other circumstance Deja would have been wary about Brooklyn making a sudden appearance just "to say hi." It was out of character for Brooklyn, considering that she and Deja weren't actually friends. The most interactions that Deja and Brooklyn had together was acknowledging one another in a crowded rooms. By no means were they on friendly enough terms to permit a random hellos. Certainly there was the Jude connection, but he tended to have separate spheres of friends and rarely conjoined them. Nonetheless, Deja was too drunk to be suspicious and too wrapped up in meeting a beautiful British man to care.

"Yup," Deja said curtly, "that's me!" Her face was lit up with a smile as she leaned back positioned herself so that her legs were crossed and hanging over the arm of the chair. She playfully looked around for a moment, as if they had missed something. "Wait!" she shouted. Quickly she came down to a whisper and leaned forward, "Are you having Deja Vu?" She laughed for a split second and shook her head. That line was too old and too juvenile to be funny anymore.

Deja admitted with defeat, "that's a bad line," she waved her hand in the air carelessly, "You don't have to laugh, but feel free to use it whenever you want." Deja sudden campy mood was something strange, but she was enjoying herself. She took a sip of her jungle juice, living only in small capsules of time. Remembering the task that was at hand she waved Roman forward. "Come play strip poker with us!" She looked to her friends "They won't bite you. They're good little boys and girls." Deja shrugged her shoulders as she continued with a general statement. "I, however, cannot promise you anything." Determined to get him to at least be interested in poker, Deja spoke again. "Just one round, you can handle that. We're even playing it the slow way."

"Sit. Sit, sit."

Thomas smiled slightly, the others misjudging the intent behind his words. He looked at his cards in satisfaction. Two aces and two Jacks. He set aside a five. He nodded in greeting at Roman before turned to Deja with a smirk.

"Wait, does that mean I will have to choose between you and Sam losing something?" he teased looking between them in mock horror. He took a sip of his vodka and considered the rest of his companions with a caclulating look. Poker was a game of numbers and Thomas specialized in numbers. With this many people, there was a strong possibility that many of the face cards were out of the deck. The question was if they were held in the right combinations that would beat his current hand.

"Well, hit me and I won't bite anyone."

Jesse opened the door for them, and though she was very surprised to see Makayla up and standing, and also very concerned that she was wearing only a bra as a top, she said nothing. Brooklyn had a heart, but she wasn't completely soft, and right now, she just had to tell herself that she had tried. She tried to help Makayla, and she tried to be a good person, but she wasn't that good of a person to completely go out of her way to take care of her. If anything happened to her, Brooklyn would want to kill Jesse only because she disliked him and was more aggressive than she should have been - not because the situation would have weighed on her conscience, as if she should have done more.

They passed Tony and Dane on the way in, but because seeing Jesse and Makayla left a bad taste in her mouth, she didn't respond to Tony's parting comment. She just headed inside, only to soon be greeted by Deja, who seemed to be the definition of drunk as she spoke to them with an accent before inviting Roman to play strip poker. Part of Brooklyn wanted to laugh at how awkward Roman was. Awkward probably wasn't even the right word, but to her, seeing him interact with people that he didn't know, always felt awkward, even if it was only her who felt like it came across as that. It was just that Roman was so... so bland unless you actually knew him. He didn't give people much to work with in terms of responses, and it was always obvious that he was uncomfortable and barely interested in what people had to say. Knowing that he specifically did not want to come over here originally, only made watching this exchange all the more enjoyable for her, and part of her wanted to goad Deja on. She considered interjecting to insist that Roman sit down and play a round, since it would take her a little while to gather "Holly's things", just to add one more person pressuring him into playing strip poker.

The open layout of the apartment made it easy for Brooklyn to make her way into the kitchen and still see what was going on where the rest of them sat, but she stopped near the kitchen first when she saw Jude. "God, Jude, your friends are thirstier than even I thought they were," she commented, perfectly aware that Olivielle was standing right there too.

While one side of Brooklyn wanted to egg on the scene between Roman and Deja, the other part of here was being territorial. It wasn't necessarily a territorial thing in terms of her wanting Roman all to herself, but more so, her wanting Roman to feel disinterested in these people just as much as she was. She didn't want him thinking that they were funny or pleasant or enjoyable, while she was the only one feeling bitter and wanting to roll her eyes at the thought of how they were all probably a bunch of lightweights. That was why when she heard Deja insist for Roman to sit down next to her, she had to jump in to state, "Roman doesn't want anything that you have to offer. He's got enough of his own STDs to worry about, without adding whatever you have into the mix. We're just here to get a few things for Holly, and we'll be on our way."

ROMAN || KILLENS
Hex code: #11519E

═══════════════════════════

Roman was typically conflicted with people like Deja. People with a lot of presence. On the one hand it meant he didn't have to put in as much effort, as was seen now in Deja's words and mannerisms. Roman knew she was drunk and that had something to say for it, but it had the same effect. On the other hand, though, it could be overwhelming. Still, it was easy for him to stand quietly, as he usually did nonetheless, because Deja was doing most of the talking. He was all but reactive, simply listening with the slightest amount of confusion, both due to Deja's speediness, as he didn't have time to fully digest or react to what she was saying, although the latter on his part wouldn't have been anything worthwhile anyways.

At Deja's invitation, Roman hesitated. He simply stood there, looking as if he wasn't going to move, his face not registering the fact that he was thinking on what to do. He didn't want to play bexause he knew he would get competitive; take it too seriously. And, in the event that he lost, he'd have to re-establish himself by playing until he won. It was really a recipe for personal disaster. What really kept him from wanting to go over was the fact that he was feeling too lazy. Unlike normally, he didn't feel any anxiety towards the prospect. The drugs loosened him, but they also numbed him. The normal things that worried him didn't worry him any longer, but they also didn't interest him either. So while now he wasn't against playing for the same reasons he normally would be, now he just didn't have the boost that a few drinks would give him. "Um,"Roman said after a second.

Before he had time to agree or not, or to tell Deja that the slow way wasn't necessary--back to his defensiveness--Brooklyn interjected, essentially answering for him and effectively putting a crown on his face. Again he was conflicted, because while she wasn't doing what he expected through pressuring him into playing, knowing that he wasn't keen on doing so, she was also being particularly annoying. There was a handful of things he wanted to say as he turned to look to her, his face depicting how bored he was with instigative behavior. "You worried I'm going to be better at your jobthan you or are you surprised that you're not so charming?"

Despite his remark, he headed towards the kitchen, offering a distracted, dismissive "Thanks," in Deja's direction. Even though the initial plan was for Brooke to do the distracting by socializing, he figured she would just grab the alcohol instead since Deja was talking to him. It didn't seem like either possibility would work at this point. Not unless he wasn't picking up on something. Without saying anything to Jude or Liv as he passed, he leaned in Brookes ear. "Holly drinks now?" he said, figuring that was the quickest way to ask what getting Holly's things had to do with grabbing alcohol from the kitchen they were in.
