Katie Cowell's Story

Katie lay on top of a building in the middle of town. It wasn't that uncommon for people to be on top of the roofs in Hidden Valley. After all, the inhabitants were able to get up there easier than humans. She was incredibly bored. Now it seemed that whenever she wasn't with Jessie or having a good time, life seemed to be very dull. Her tail twitched in agitation at her side, and she sat up.

Looking out over the rest of the town wasn't much more exciting than watching the clouds. Other creatures like her wandered around like ants, minding whatever business they had to attend to. Some were human in appearance, others were obviously not. Thanks to what had been happening recently, for all she new there were humans down there. But unfortunately for her, none of them were Jessie. She sighed and grabbed her soft, fluffy tail. She enjoyed holding it, even if she was also covered in fur.

Deciding she had been on the roof long enough, Katie climbed down. Jessie could have been looking for her, and she probably wouldn't have thought to look up. She smiled to herself, entering one of the shops and buying herself a large cup of assorted berries. This was her absolute favorite thing to eat. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberry, huckleberry, gooseberry, blackberry. Didn't matter, as long as it was a berry. She left the shop and continued down the street, occasionally taking a berry from the cup and tossing it into her mouth.

Wondering about what she was going to do the rest of the day, Katie walked slowly down the road. Nothing that came to mind seemed to suit her fancy. She sighed as she reached into her now half-empty cup and withdrew a plump strawberry. She took a moment to admire it. The beautiful blood red. The gentle ridges of the indented seeds. It's inconspicuous heart shape. Gingerly she plucked the stem from the berry and put it into her mouth. She bit into the large berry, enjoying the juice exploding into her mouth.

Katie's ears twitched as she heard her name called. She swallowed the berry and spun around, looking for the source. Quickly she noticed Brian waving at her. She began closing the distance between them. "Wassup?" She asked once she was in talking distance.

Katie accepted the hand-shake, taking his hand in her paw. "I'd love to." She said happily. Almost nothing got her more excited than fresh berries. She let go of his hand and entered the garden. "Lemme at 'em." She giggled, rubbing her palms together.

"Maybe after," She said, holding up her paw in politer refusal. "If I have it now, the taste will be corrupted. Make sense?" She explained, admiring the full bushes.

"Sweet, thanks Brian." Katie said with a smile. She took a few steps forward and crouched down. Now she spent the next few moments searching for the biggest, juiciest berries. After she had a small handful of assorted fresh fruit, she eagerly tossed one of them in her mouth. She smiled as the juices swirled around in her mouth. It wasn't long before the rest of them were gone.

"Those were amazing!" She said to Brian.

Lucas Roark

Lucas sighed in contentment as he rolled over in his bed. He was in a really good mood. He had had a good run last night in his true form, had thoroughly enjoyed being able to be himself without being worried about hurting someone. He was pretty good at controlling himself now. And, to make everything better, he was supposed to spend the day with-

"Brian!" he exclaimed, popping up in the bed and shooting a look to his alarm clock. It was blinking 12:00 so he had no idea what time it really was, but he knew he was late.

He jumped up, tossing his blanket messily on the floor. He was only wearing his boxer-briefs so he rushed to his dresser and pulled out the first shirt he grabbed. He pulled on a pair of shorts and ran into his bathroom to brush his teeth, grateful he had taken a shower before he went to sleep. He pulled on his tennis-shoes, without socks, as he ran down the stairs. Which, by the way, took considerable skill.

As he ran into the kitchen to go out the door, he almost barged into his mother. Yes, he still lives with his parents, not that he's not trying to get out though. His mom is just very clingy and won't let go.

"Where's the fire?" the petite woman questioned with a laugh.

"Oh," Lucas replied, trying to catch his breath. "Just over slept. I think I need a new alarm clock."

"Or maybe you should learn how to take care of the one you've got."

He chuckled. "Or I could do that." He pulled her into a hug and kissed her cheek before he walked past her to the door. "I'm hanging out with a friend today. I'll let you know when I'll be back."

"Which friend?" the woman called after him as he left.

"Just a friend!" he replied, taking off at a jog. If he didn't have his werewolf abilities he might have stolen- well, borrowed- the car, but he could get to Brian's just as easily by running. Plus, he knew how sexy he looked with a light sheen of sweat, and maybe he was hoping to make a good impression. He grinned widely at the thought of seeing Brian. He was pretty sure it was going to be a good day.

He reached Brian's house and was about to knock on the door when he heard voices in the garden. He peeked around the side of the house and saw Brian talking to Katie, a very nice Kit. If she were a boy he might have been jealous, but he smiled brightly and made himself known. "Sorry I'm late," he said.

Katie heard a new voice, and swiveled her gaze. Eventually she saw Lucas. She hardly knew him, even though they had both lived in the valley since birth. "'Sup?" She replied. Ever since going to live in New York, she had picked up on the normal human talk. It suited her quite well. She never overdid it, and thought it made her appear more outgoing and fun.

"Sounds good." Katie said to him as she continued to sit on the bench, trying to get a seed unstuck from her teeth with her tounge. But it sounded more like, "Thoundth good." She knew it sounded ridiculous, but she didn't care. After all, everyone had an embarrassing moment sooner or later. For her, it tended to be later rather than sooner, but that was beyond the point.

Once the offending seed had been lassoed by her tounge, she spat it out at the dirt. So what if it was un-lady like? Last she checked, she never really had been girly. All thoughts of what people thought of her vanished as she shifted her attention to the two boys. She would just wait for Brian to come back.

Katie's ears twitched as she watched the sky start to get darker. Her fur started to stick up due to the static in the air. "Oh crap." She muttered to herself. She stood up from the bench and started to make her way out out of the garden. "Sorry Brian, looks like I'll have to rain check on that lemonade. I don't want to get rained on. Later." She called to him as she slipped out the gate.

Katie looked back up at the sky as the clouds dissappeared. She dismissed it with a sigh. This was Hidden Valley after all. Anything could happen here. However what happened next she didn't expect.

As she walked past the park, she nearly got whiplash doing a double take. There was a dragon. Scratch that. Two dragons in the park. In her whole life she had only seen one other one here in Hidden Valley. This was an opportunity she just had to take advantage of. She turned on her bare heel and entered the park, making her way to the pair.

"Hello." She said to both of them.

Katie tried to hide her excitement. "No, not really. I just thought I'd say hi to you two. It's not everyday Hidden Valley gets a dragon, let alone two." It was the truth. The last time a dragon had lived here was when she was about nine or ten.

"Sure. I'm a Kit." Katie said to her. "Name's Katie."

Katie eventually grew bored with the two dragons. That was one downfall of being a Kit. They had incredibly short attention spans. The fact that she had grown bored of something as rare as dragons was proof enough. Too bad Jessie wasn't around. Things would probably be a little more interesting if she were here. With a bored yawn she turned and started to leave the park, tail swinging steadily.

Katie passed by a park bench seeing Drake and Mikayla talking. All she really knew was that Drake was among the recent new-comers. She had talked to Mikayla several times, since they had both lived in the valley since birth. She couldn't help but think that they were a cute couple. Sure, they got along well and were cute together, but she secretly thought they were both cute. However she couldn't allow Jessie to know, or else risk making her jealous.

Drake smiled but let out a small sigh as Mikayla asked to play tag. "Alright fine." Whats the worst that could happen. He stood up and stretched out a bit. "Okay then how do we play?" he said curious of what this game would actually be. He looked over and saw another girl. She was somewhat like a fox but partially human. Considering he hadn't talked to anyone besides Mikayla it was best to stay away from reacting with her on the chance she may be aggressive and make him change into his blood bat form.

He hated changing into the form. It was huge, about two stories high with thick brown fur. The fangs were awful too with hollow cavities for the blood to drain from and go into his stomach. His wings were amazing though all brown and leathery making a tree lose half his wings with a beat. He shook the feeling off and turned back to Mikayla smiling.

"Yay!" she hugged Drake and backed up.She then spotted Kattie and waved."Okay.Well it seemes everybody here is a 'beast' so basicly it's like regular tag but we use our 'super' speed to play instead." she smiled."You sure you wanna play?"

Katie noticed the wave and took the opportunity to walk over. "Hey Mikayla. Hey." The last one was directed at Drake. It was never a bad idea to get to know anyone, no matter what they were. "What's up you two?"

Drake smiled and nodded. "Yes of course I'll play." he said smiling. He had pretty good control over his speed and it came almost as if second nature to him. He nearly jumped whenever the fox girl came up to him and said hey. He whipped around but calmed his nerves and smiled nervously. "H hey."
