a character in “Daughter of the White River”, as played by aestival

Description

Name: Broken Arrow
Full Name: Broken Arrow of Unity and Allegiance

Appearance: Image

Role: Sweet Water's Dearest Friend

Personality: Broken Arrow is a patient young woman, committed to the laws of her land and family. Contrary to her quiet nature, Broken Arrow's spirit is one of particular excitement. She finds joy in music, sharing her songs of encouragement with those around her, and passes on compassion like the smiles on her face. Her mind, mature for her age, often focuses on the outcome of events rather than the event itself. She is strong in her beliefs - which never stray from the good of her tribe - and is an apt choice to consider when seeking out advice or opinions.

Quirks: Broken Arrow loves to participate in tribal dances and songs. Aside from her musical talents, she enjoys reading books and holds Mother Nature in high esteem.

Fears: Coyotes, bad spirits, owls, bad omens

Weaknesses: Raised through masses of folklore and tales passed through her tribe's generations, Broken Arrow is naturally very superstitious - which could very well result in her downfall.

History: Growing up with little parental support, Broken Arrow had learned the role of a guardian at a very young age. At 11 years old, her mother had passed away conceiving her younger sister Maple Tree, leaving the duo with only a very ill father for protection. Broken Arrow, with the help of her neighbors and tribe, was able to to care for both herself and sister. Following the death of her father a year after Maple Tree's birth, a member of the tribe volunteered to take them in. He had made life much easier for Broken Arrow and her sister, providing more nutritious options like meat and eggs rather than just berries and leaves - although she had grown fond of her simple foods. Her present life consists of caring for her younger sister and making time with her one true friend, the chieftain's daughter Sweet water, who had grown up with her since the age of 2.

Writing Skeleton: "Sweet Water," she spoke softly, "I do not condone this arrangement, but their intent is pure of heart." Broken Arrow drifted to the sky, tracing clouds with the tips of her fingers. She shut her eyes, converging her senses to the wind. Her fingers began to drum against the soft earth, creating music with the steady heartbeats that pumped through her ears. "Sweet Water," she said again, her quiet voice now heavy with purpose. "Do you know the meaning of a broken arrow? They are symbols of peace, unity." Broken Arrow stood, dusting the sand off of her moccasins as she turned to face her dearest friend. "Peace is not only my want; it is yours, too. It is the desire of our entire race. You must see this through our tribe's eyes, my friend. They believe it is for the greater good," she hummed, gathering the berry basket and tea leaves beside her feet. "I wish you not this fate, Sweet Water, but we cannot choose our destiny - you know that just as well as I."

Broken Arrow glanced at the sun which was now growing orange, submerging itself into their land. "I must go now. Sunset is arriving, and I swore to Uncle I would be home before it," Broken Arrow said, gesturing to the horizon. "I will see you soon, Sweet Water," she smiled gently, turning around. "Be strong," she whistled over her shoulder.

Upon entering her home, little feet were heard paddling against the wool rugs. "Big Sister!" a small voice squealed, matching the face of a 6-year old girl. Small hands pushed strands of wavy hair away, revealing a pair of bright eyes and a smile like white sunshine. Broken Arrow set her basket and leaves aside, crouching down to embrace her younger sister. "My little blossom," she smiled, "you are getting more beautiful with each and every day." The young girl grinned, hopping out of her sister's arms and peeking into the basket heavy with gooseberries. "We will be having Wojapi tonight, little one," Broken Arrow winked, tapping the tip of her sister's nose. The young girl's eyes began to twinkle at the sound of her favorite meal. "Let me help!" she jumped, snatching the basket and placing it near the pot and fire pit. Broken Arrow chuckled, nodding in response.

"Big Sister?" her little sister called, looking up.
"Hm?"
"I'm glad you are home."
