Denizens of the Desert

Description

[B]

Image Official Name: Black Legionnaire
Creature Class: Sentient
Chance to Encounter: Common
Habitat: Desert Ruins, Temples, Abandoned Cities, Roads, Forests, Mountains, Plains
Description: It is not entirely certain whether or not the Black Legionnaires are their own race, or if they are simply husks of a once intelligent species. While not very powerful or skilled, they travel in groups and possess frightening appearances, carrying all manners of weapons with some of them even being magi. They appear close to areas that were at one point civilized or populated, or on roads that lead to such areas. The Legionnaires are also known to follow orders from Overseers, though the connection between them is unspecified.

Image Official Name: Brood
Creature Class: Sentient
Chance to Encounter: Common
Habitat: Towns, Encampments
Description: Known among humans as the "Brood". Their origins are a mystery, though the two most popular theories are as follows: 1) They are the product of humans tapping into dark magics that twisted their bloodline; 2) They are the issue of a union between humans and an unknown, monstrous race. They have formed societies that compete very heavily with humanity, though they are not actually at war and will not attack humans without reason or provocation. The Brood are highly aggressive, however, and can find it very difficult to keep their rage at bay at times. In battle, the Brood only seem to fight harder the more they are injured, and in some cases a killing blow can actually leave the body fighting savagely for a short time even beyond death. They do have their own gods, and their deities neither have genders nor names, and are instead known only by titles (for example, their chief god is called either Wrathful One or (Old) Nine Eyes). The name "Brood" was given to them by humans, they refer to themselves as the Γ›ttorrba. They are similar to humans in how they form societies and laws, but there are somewhat fewer of them and they tend to live longer.

Image Official Name: Canyon Stalker
Creature Class: Behemoth
Chance to Encounter: Rare
Habitat: Desert, Low Ground
Description: Canyon Stalkers are massive six-legged, four-eyed creatures, mostly seen prowling through the chasms of deep canyons. It possesses two sets of horns: One set is elongated, curving in bow-like shapes along its back, which is lined with large spines all the way to the tip of its tail. The other set of horns is shorter, curving inwards toward its split mouth. They are incredibly powerful and agile, able to cling to the canyon walls and chase its prey large distances by running and leaping.

Image Official Name: Crypt Dragon
Creature Class: Legendary
Chance to Encounter: Extremely Rare
Habitat: Isolated Caverns, Underground
Description: It possesses thick, dull horns that curve back towards the base of its neck and its eyes are small, shining a bright white. Its coating is a linkage of stone textured onyx-black scales, which are severely rigid and disproportional, some jutting out like stalagmites while others are flatter. They enjoy sleeping in beds of lava or if none are available in their vicinity, the ground will generally suffice. Though normally passive, Crypt Dragons will grow aggressive if they are attacked or disturbed. Of the many shades and species of dragons, the Crypt Dragons have always been regarded as some of the most fearsome. And while their strength goes almost wholly unmatched, they are few in numbers and prefer to remain out of sight and unstirred. When soldiers began scouring caves and tunnels in search for these dragons, hoping to tame or control them for their war effort, the dragons grew restless and swiftly destroyed the foolish men and the kingdoms that they had represented, sulking back into their caverns to resume their sleep when the deed had been completed.

Image Official Name: Overseer
Creature Class: Sentient
Chance to Encounter: Rare
Habitat: Desert Ruins, Temples, Magma Plains

Of those that are left, they are sometimes witnessed roaming around the vestiges of what once used to be their culture, protecting ruins and abandoned sites alike from invaders. With bent, black horns and plated armor, they patrol the vicinity aimlessly, and while they appear to be lost in some way, what truly goes on in their minds is unknown.

Image Official Name: Scavenger
Creature Class: Fiend
Chance to Encounter: Abundant

Description: Foul, ungainly beasts, scavengers are small and fat, their heads nearly the size of the rest of their bodies. Large tusks protrude from their jaws, which they use to gore and bleed out their quarry. Their arms are just as powerful as their mouths, using their strength to tackle and pin down their enemies as well as tear apart resistant innards. Chance to Encounter: Uncommon
Habitat: Open Desert

Official Name: Wyvern

Chance to Encounter: Uncommon
Habitat: Desert Cliffs

They are nowhere near the size of dragons, but they are still large, considerable opponents.
