HEIGHT
She's tall for a girl, 5'6, rather intimidating.

WEIGHT
It's rude to ask for a woman's weight, but most of it sits in her chest.

HAIR COLOR
A bit deeper than cotton candy pink

EYE COLOR
Gold, keen, the color of the sun that will gaze right through your soul.

SKIN TONE
      Pasty, almost white.

GENERAL APPEARANCE
The opposite of the human she is tied to, Blithe is tall and rather busty. She doesn't mind it of course, although it isn't often that you'll see Blithe in her human form on earth. She prefers the smaller, cuter, furry form of the nine tailed fox. In her human form, however, her hair is so long it nearly brushed the floor and her eyes, despite their warm color, are cold and closed off. Her head is marked with two pointed ears that stick straight up out of her head and her tail is bushy. In human form, the appendages are orange, however their true color is white. Small in no way, it is very hard to miss Blithe when she is in a room, perhaps it is her considerable height, or maybe it's her choice of clothing. She prefers heals and is rather girly in her outfit choices, flaunting her assets, Blithe is certainly not shy.

PERSONALITY
Blithe is a personality, that much is clear. From the moment you meet her, you can tell that she is large and in charge. Blithe prefers to be in control of situations, she hates it when things get out of hand and when it comes to Zinnia, Blithe often finds that she can't control the human she is tethered to. It upsets her greatly, but there's nothing she can do about it and so, Blithe is learning to go with the flow. In truth, perhaps, Blithe might even enjoy it, although she would never admit it considering how stubborn she is. A willy thing too, the nine tailed fox is not easily contained, it took a great trick to entrap her in this contract, but if she must be contracted to anyone, Blithe is glad that it is Zinnia.

LIKES
Meat || The more the merrier, whether it's animal or human.

Fire || There's an old myth about foxes and fire, it's true of course, otherwise, where would the notorious, fox fire come from?

Nighttime || Demons thrive during the evening hours, especially around midnight is when Blithe is most active.

Mischief || A troublemaker through and through, Blithe likes to cause trouble for others.

DISLIKES
Daytime || Sunshine is warm, but it makes her lazy.

Vegetables || Foxes are scavengers, but Blithe much prefers to sink her teeth into warm, juicy steaks.

Water || Foxes are primarily related to the cannis major, but that doesn't mean she likes to take baths.

Humans || They're loud, ugly, and smell. Not her Zinnia though, perfectly small and cute.

TALENTS
Fox Fire || Foxes are beings of fire, therefore, it is most always at her finger tips, waiting to be toyed with.

Mischief || Blithe is much better at getting into trouble than getting out of trouble.

Seduction || Demons are amorous beings, it's very hard for them to keep it all in. They indulge and as such, it isn't odd to find Blithe in strange places.

Fighting || She was a Major in General Montgomery's invasion of hell.

FLAWS
Stubborn || Stubborn as a mule, there is only one person that can way Blithe.

Mischief || Great at getting into trouble, horrible at finding her way out.

Fresh || Blithe has a tendency to speak her mind, she isn't reckless per say and knows how to read to the room, she just doesn't care.

FEARS
Loss || Losing Zinnia to the bastard that has been attempting to possess her.

Return || Blithe doesn't want to go back to hell anytime soon; it's a mess down there.

"Earth is a mess, humans are foul creatures."

FAMILY
Not much is known about Blithe, it's very rare that she'll mention her family.

BIO
Born from fire, the first thing that Blithe could remember was warmth. The next thing she could remember were hands and fur. You see, most demons are born fully grown. They are created from dark wishes, summoned by deep desires. Not Blithe, born from a Mother and Father, she was as small and delicate as a flower, created via love potion. Doomed from birth, her father tried to drown her in a river with no success. They abandoned her, as foxes sometimes do, in order to hide their shame and embarrassment. Blithe crawled out of the river, crying and clinging to rocks. She was so small then, taken in by one of the generals of hell to serve as his scribe. Once she was old enough, he taught her to read and write, but it was clear that she had a drive for something else. Blithe was better than a scribe, she was sharper, having a keen sense for battle. General Montgomery trained her, honing in on her animal instincts.

He died by her own hand. She killed him, having hated what she had become. With no regrets, Blithe took over as General and killed with reckless abandon. She was happy, or so she thought. Living the life of luxury, a new lover by her side every night, Blithe felt oddly empty. You see, when one is born of a love potion, it dooms them to an eternal hollowness. It mattered not what vices she picked up, the empty feeling was always there, numbing her heart, giving her the advantage on the battlefield. Blithe closed herself off, no longer did she see lovers, she drank herself into oblivion, leaving her home only to slaughter those that opposed the King of hell. A recluse, others whispered about her, she had killed everything she had ever held dear, including the man that had been like a Father to her.

"I'm proud of you," he had said in his final moments, as she drove the knife right through his heart. "I'm proud of you," but why?

It was in a drunken rage that she made a stupid bet. Summoned to earth by a child with a tangle of unruly red hair. Red, a powerful color, even on humans. Willy, that one, she made a bet. Should Blithe lose, she would have to serve for eternity as the child's familiar. Should she win, she could drag the child's soul back to hell, gobble her flesh, and drink her blood. It was a simple game of tic-tac-toe, and Blithe had never been so humiliated. Purged of her vices, she has been serving faithfully as Zinnia's familiar, finding that somehow, she is much happier on earth then she ever was in hell.

OTHER
Why has Blithe become so attached to Zinnia? Call it a codependency, both girls were thrown out by their parents, albeit one at a much younger age. Besides, the little witch is a tricky thing and has no real friends, they were just two pieces of one puzzle waiting to fit together. Of course, Blithe never expected the balance to be thrown off by the newcomer.

Yue asked the question, biting her lip in worry. What did Zinnia think? Did her mentor think anything of all of it? She wanted to know, then maybe she would have an idea as to how to conduct herself for the future in order to get the road she wanted. Zinnia however was not going to give her any sort of definite answer. She referred to a plant that needed help to thrive, or it could potentially wither away. Was that how Zinnia saw her, a plant with the potential to either bloom or die? Yue did not know what to think of it, but she hoped that that wasn't all there was to it. "I'll try to bloom." Yue replied in writing, putting the quill down. Now was time for work, not time for silly thoughts.

The garden needed to be cared for. Zinnia went down to get to work and Yue knew she was expected to help out as well. Perhaps by doing so the dryads across the fence would stop glaring at her with eyes full of fear and suspicion. Did they think she was going to become a dark witch and destroy everything? Or did they just not like her after the incident with the Elder Tree? Yue gave them a brief wave and then looked into the spellbook. She didn't have her voice just yet but that didn't mean it would be impossible to assist. Yue went to the section on non-verbal spells, which was a somewhat long list of weak magics that couldn't compare to spells with a verbal component. She could make little sprinkles of water to help the plants that needed it - she could tell based no the color of the soil and the feel of the plant depending on type - she cast a simple animation spell to have the knife cut at the weeds to get them out of the garden.

By the end of it Yue was tired, sitting down in the shade provided by her demon who had gotten tired of playing around with Blithe. "Good work!" Rain said with a cheeky grin. "You were finally helpful for once!" Yue rolled her eyes, trying to ignore the chill in her spine. It was a permanent feature of her life now, a small price to pay in exchange for the friend she earned in Rainarch. "Hey, I was helpful! I gave the boob fox some exercise!" Yue thought back to Baroness Licht and the incoming Second Impact. What would happen if the Kings were to rise again? "Well, obviously, destroy everything. They'll easily break through the veil and any diplomacy laws between demon and mages will be promptly ignored." Rain said with a shrug. "Lumos especially believes that you mages are not humans and should be fighting against humans just like the demons are, and that by hiding away you're all being cowards." Did Rain meet this Lumos once before? Yue nodded gravely. She hated humanity, but she didn't think genocide was the right idea.

...........

Ulrich frowned at this girl. She was a mystery, even to him. She was telling him all sorts of things that may or may not be true, it was hard to tell for now. Perhaps Forster, Constantina's best diviner, would be able to help in this regard. "So everything you said is truth." He asked and the girl nodded. there was still so much to know, but her skill in occlumency was strong, he wasn't able to break through except to see whatever she wanted him to see. "As per your request you'll enroll in the University, niece." The girl nodded, a forlorn look in her eyes. "To complete my mission, there's someone I have to meet." The girl had something she needed to accomplish, and her uncle Ulrich was definitely going to help her out. Elders were allowed to sponsor two students per year, and this girl and Yue were the two he would bring to the University this year.

Zinnia nodded, satisfied and turned towards working the garden. It was a lot of work, even after Yue was done helping, Zinnia continued, her hands shaking from the work. "Who are you calling boob fox!" She yelled to Rainarch, her tails lighting up with fire. The fox shook her head and turned back to her Master, grabbing her hands to stop her from removing another weed ."You're overdoing it, you're going to hut yourself," Blithe said lightly, not wanting Zinnia to injure her arms, considering that was a mage's most important part. "Nonsense Blithe, I'm perfectly fine," Zinnia lied, knowing her familiar could see right through it. "I'm not letting you do anymore work," Blithe lifted Zinnia easily, carrying her towards where Rain and Yue were sprawled in the shade of the porch. She set her Master down beside them and went inside, "I'm gonna make lemonade," Blithe disappeared behind closed doors.

"The Barons won't be able to enter Constantina again," Zinnia spoke casually, "the Elders are working to make certain that no demon can enter our realm without permission again." That incident at the festival had been a stroke of luck, they had picked the right day at the right time, nothing more, nothing less. They wouldn't be so lucky again, the Dean worked closely with the council, no doubt the border walls were being reinforced, they were hard at work making certain no demon came into their homes, unwelcome. "The mages aren't cowards, we're simply protecting ourselves from what is to come. The humans have always had self destructive tendencies, this is no different." They had brought it upon themselves, this time, however, there would be no witches or wizards to save them.

Blithe returned with lemonade, "Most demons can't apparate the same way mages can, we have to be summoned, which means that someone was working with the demons on the inside." She poured four cups and sat down as the cicadas began to chirp, the sounds of summer filtering through the green house. "Blasphemy," Zinnia scowled. "Who knows?" Her demon contemplated, tails swishing, she winked in the direction of Rainarch and Yue, "this is all just speculation of course. Although I suspect Yuu and his sister, Yuna, wouldn't be so opposed." Zinnia shook her head, "Let's not speak ill of the damned." Blithe choked on her lemonade, coughing as she laughed.

"Tomorrow, we should do something different." Zinnia decided, "I'm sick of the ordinary, Yue, pick something to do. I'm utterly bored of my routine," several books floated outside, guides to their realm. "There are mountains to the north and a city that is perpetually covered in snow to the east."

Yue and Rain were given the choice of what to do for tomorrow. The two were huddled together in their room in the late of night, trying to figure out what they wanted to do. "The mountains will be a tough trek, even with magic Zinnia might have trouble." Rain thought aloud as the books were sprawled before them. Constantina was the big city but that didn't mean there were other places in the magical world to explore. Constantina was merely the capital city! "What about the Crystal Observatory?" Rain asked, tail wagging. To the far north there was a tower made of ivory, with almost one hundred crystal balls within. Some are tuned to observe the demon realm, some to watch human affairs as the silly children of men drove themselves closer and closer to oblivion, others to maintain and survey the magical world. Yue shook her head, she didn't think anyone without clearance was allowed there. There was a lot of sensitive information there.

"The best chefs in the magical world have a village in the Magrul Volcano's caves." Rain's tail thumped in excitement at the idea. For a mist demon that did not need to eat for sustenance, she sure loved to placate her tastebuds, didn't she? "Are you calling me a glutton?" Yue wondered if there was a reason Zinnia specifically pointed out the mountain and snow city. Was it because they were more easily accessible than the Fountain of Love, a giant fountain dedicated to the spirits of love high up in the sky above the clouds. "You know, I wanna go to the Celestial Palace." Rain said with a sneaky grin. Yue knew what it was of course, a palace where the old Imperial Family, the first bloodline of the Original Mage resided up there. Now mages used the Elders to govern the land, but in the past it was those in the hidden Celestial Palace that dictated things. It was a palace that was hidden and lived up above the clouds.

Of course, a commoner and a demon like Yue and Rain would never gain access up there.

In the end the two decided on the Wrestal Vale, the town of perennial snow. With that, Yue closed her eyes, wondering what nightmare would greet her this time.

While Orie liked to use fire, Gillian employed the usage of the whip, and Miranda's personal favorite was water torture, Tyler was a bit different from the others. Yes, Yue dreaded his visits to the punishment room as much as she dreaded the others but that didn't mean he hurt as much as they did. "Hullo." Tyler entered, locking the door behind them, kicking his shoes off as if they were a bother, hands still in his pockets. Yue did not speak because she could not speak, at least she didn't think so. Instead she blinked to acknowledge him, chains heavy on her ankles and wrists, prohibiting any hope for escape. Every time he looked at her like this there was an odd look in his eyes, one Yue could not decipher. One she wasn't meant to be able to read.

"Calm down, you know nothing's going to happen." The rule was that once a day, someone could play with her unless she was in critical condition. Once she had her daily quota of punishment done she would be freed from the punishment room back to her normal room, chained to her bed with two daily releases for bathroom purposes. Today was Tyler's day to come. So the violent boy sat next to her and opened up his bag where his favorite torture toys were. "Ah, here's where we left off last time." He pulled a book out - well it was less a book and more a Japanese comic, one featuring a boy who joins the military to fight in a post-apocalypse world, with a brother who was turned into a vampire. "So Shinoa invites Yuu to..."

Yue always hated these visits. Because the stories were always so interesting it meant she was always wishing for more once it was over, it kept her hoping every time the door opened, it gave her the gift of disappointment when anyone else came, instead of more story time, torture awaited.

Everything would have just been easier if only she could everyone gave her torture so she would have never had the gift of manga in her life.

Zinnia sat in the study, her Father's study, reading a book on herbology and the practical uses of herbs in the medicinal field. She was five, Blithe sitting on the windowsill as a fox, bathing in the sunlight. She pretended she couldn't hear the arguing in the other room, her Mother and Father, who as of late, yelled at each other more than they spoke. Eventually, their voices died down. Zinnia swallowed and closed the book, Blithe opening one eye. The door was pushed ajar, her Mother peeking inside. "Zinnia, there's someone I would like you to meet." Her Mother's smile was kind, if only she could remember the warmth it had brought her whenever she saw those pearly whites. This day was forever soured in her memory, that loving smile ruined by her putrid memory of that wretched day.

There was a woman in the living room, a stranger in every sense of the word. A man was with her, his graying hair and scarred face frightening the child. Her Mother held her hand, leading the child towards the stranger. Zinnia hobbled, she was bow legged, her toes pointing inwards, having never properly learned how to walk. Her parents had tried everything from herbs to splinting, but the medicine woman in town had insisted that Zinnia would grow out of it on her own and so, they let her be. "Zinnia, this woman is Elder Council Woman Freya," her Mother said gently, her face a blur, but her voice heavy." Zinnia looked up at the glowing figure, a shining halo of light surrounding her head. She swallowed hard, well aware of what it meant to meet a council member. "Am I... in trouble?"

"No! Zinny, no," her Father hugged her close. "You're growing too fast for us Zinny, my little pixie so... your Mother and I are sending you away."

"Away?"

"I'm going to take you with me to Constantina," Freya knelt down, her knees in the worn carpet. "You and I are going to become very close," she squeezed Zinnia's hands, the child utterly confused. "Mama and Papa are coming too, right?" The child inquired apprehensively. "No Zinny, your Papa and I are staying here," her Mother touched her shoulder, shaking her head. "You'll be going with Blithe." Her familiar bound over, the fox winding her way around Zinnia's legs. "No, I don't want to go! Not without you!" She hobbled towards her parents, who stepped back. There was fear in their eyes, why? Why had Zinnia never noticed it before? Her knees wobbled, giving out. Freya reacted, catching her, lifting the child into her arms.

"It'll be alright Zinnia, you and I are going to become very good friends."

"More dreams about your parents?" Blithe inquired as she brushed Zinnia's hair, the two of them going through their morning routine in the bathroom. Zinnia was dressed warmly, she had a feeling that she knew what Yue and Rain were going to pick. "They're very strange, I can't recall their faces, but I remember their eyes." She said, fingering her wand. Blithe rose, having finished brushing and braiding her Master's hair. "I'm going to prepare breakfast this morning, don't worry yourself with the cooking." She floated downstairs as her familiar went to rouse the two sleepy heads in the next room.

Dressed snugly in an outfit Rain bought for her - if by buy you mean asking Zinnia to buy - and already they were on the trek. The dog ears on the cap kept flopping around as they opened door and headed out, saying their farewells for now to the dryads watching from across the fence, they happily tittered for Zinnia and then glared daggers Yue's way. The moon child did not mind, she knew that she deserved it. Mages were meant to get along with nature but Yue had no such love for nature that most did. She felt more comfortable in urban settings, not that they really had anything that urban in the magical world. "Boob fox is lucky." Rain said sadly, staring at Blithe's chest. "All the fat means extra layer of warmth."

You couldn't apparate too far because every mage had a safety range that was unique to them based on mana and familiarity with the spell and the locale. You also couldn't chain too many apparates together since you were at a higher risk of leaving a part of you behind. Today's trek was going to be a mix of walking and apparations, which was the standard form of travel without broomsticks for everyone. Yue would have to learn broomstick travel at a later date, once she was already enrolled most likely. They would be taking turns, and Rain handled the first apparate shift, taking them Eastward bound. "Wrestal Vale has some of the best jewelry!" Rain chattered excitedly, tail wagging as she walked along the road. "We should buy a ring in Blithe's name and send it to Zinnia!" Yue giggled silently, even if the plan was useless since the two victims of her plot were overhearing it already.

"The best reason to go the Vale is because the time of year." Rain recited from the guide book that they had pored over last night. Yue still faintly remembered the dream, a part of her longed to go back to the human world if only to catch up on all the manga she was missing out. There were so many stories she wouldn't get to finish with Tyler now. "Around this time the Snow Dragon clan migrates from Mistfall Glacier to the Wrestal Cliffs." Apparently it was a very good sight to see. If you were lucky a scale of a Snow Dragon would fall from the sky during their flight, a very powerful synthesis tool for potions that was incredibly rare to get to the point that it was illegal to sell it on the markets because otherwise it would encourage poachers.

There was a sneaky glow in Rain's eyes once it was Blithe's turn to group apparate them to the next stop, where they would have to walk a bit farther and then apparate once more to get to their destination. "Then me and Master are gonna use the scale for a secret potion!" The two decided on the Vale because of the usefulness if they were able to find a Snow Dragon scale. It was a vital component for a potion, it was a high difficulty potion but Yue knew with Rain they could do it.

It was a Potion of Dragon Might, to increase muscle levels for a week. With it, if there was ever an emergency situation that required it, Zinnia would be able to live with normally functioning muscles for a week, freedom from the chair. You needed a scale from a Snow Dragon, a Fire Dragon, a Wind Dragon, and a Divine Dragon in order to brew the potion. Yue intended on getting on of each scale to give Zinnia the gift.

Zinnia made them a warm breakfast of rice porridge with brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon, knowing they would need the extra heat. Blithe packed them each a thermos of hot tea with a dash of honey to warm their insides once they arrived in the Vale. "My intuition was correct," Zinnia smiled when she saw Yue come downstairs, dressed for warmth. "Breakfast is served," she floated towards the table, discussing the plan and inquiring as to what Yue wanted to do during the trip. They would only be gone a day, but it was best to make plans so one did not wander aimlessly around the beautiful mountainous region. When it was time to go, Blithe packed two extra blankets, one for Yue to wrap around herself, and one for Zinnia to put on her chair in case it got too cold.

"You'll learn to fly on a broom soon enough, it's easy if you can manage to balance and navigate all at once." Zinnia said as they strolled outside of the garden, Rain apparating them the first time. "It isn't fat!" Blithe yelled, her cheeks turning bright pink as she crossed her arms over her chest. "They're only teasing," Zinnia laughed when they reached their first spot, "Rain, you can change your form, if you really wanted, you can be big and busty." Blithe stuck her tongue out, "or maybe you can't and are just jealous?" Her tails swished, satisfied, knowing that she was the stronger one. "Not all of us are so lucky," Zinnia rolled her eyes, their group apparating again. From here, they would be walking and it seemed that they came across a bit of a problem.

They had to cross a drawbridge, but Zinnia's chair would not be able to make it across. "I'll cast a spell to bring it to the other side once we're there." Blithe lifted Zinnia up easily, placing her Master on her shoulders. "I'll go first to make certain that it's safe!" Blithe elected, putting both hands on the railing. The bridge bounced on the first step, it was rickety, with moss growing on the side, making it abundantly clear that no one had taken this path in quite some time. "Blithe, are you quite certain this is safe?" Zinnia asked as her familiar took her time, the bridge swaying to and fro. "We're fine!" Blithe insisted, making it across. "Your turn!" She waved to Rain and Yue once they were on solid ground.

After the duo made it across, Zinnia summoned her chair, which drifted through the air and landed beside her. Blithe set her back down and they apparated once more to just outside of the Vale. "Nearly there," Zinnia assured them, the blistering cold wind licking her cheeks. Her hair rustled, had it not been braided, it would have whipped at her face and arms. "The locals are quite curious, as not many make the trek to come to their small town during this time of year, but I've found them to be friendly." Zinnia assured Yue as they pressed forward, a somewhat smooth journey so far.

There was a reason why Rain chose her humanoid form to be what it was. Was it because Yue was attracted to small bodied girls? Was it because Rain wanted to be cute and small? Certainly if she wanted it would be easy to become big and busty like Blithe, Rain was made of mist, she could be whatever she wanted to be. "I chose this..." Rain said quietly, suddenly solemn despite the jubilant teasing of the other duo. "Because Yue was scared and it would be a less threatening form." As they made the contract Rain immediately sensed the fear, the terror, the trauma from her past. If they were going to have a good master and demon relationship she was first going to have to set Yue at ease, wasn't she? And Yue knew that, she was thankful for her surprisingly thoughtful familiar.

At the draw bridge Yue stared with doubt. The winds were whipping this high up in the mountainous range, the draw bridge did not look very sturdy at all. One wrong move and then it would be a tumble down into oblivion. Below the crevice was a river flowing, though Yue did not know if it was the same river that brought her here in the first place. "Don't worry." Rain said with a smile, holding her hand out for Yue to cling. "Even if we fall, I can fly us back to safety. There's nothing to worry about." Yue gulped, nodding. If magic didn't exist something like this was very clearly suicide. But because of magic and demons it was possible to carefully tip toe her way to the other side.

A song could be heard in the distance. It was so pretty and yet so sad. She glanced around, trying to find it. Why was there someone singing out here in the snow? Yue almost thought she caught a glimpse of a pretty cute girl up above them on the mountain crests. Shouldn't they go help her? "Ignore it." Rain said wisely, shaking her head. "It's an Onna, in snowstorms they sing to attract idiots so they can freeze them to make an ice collection." Sounded almost like sirens from greek mythology, except ice instead of water. "They look like pretty girls but they're actually hiding their real forms, which are ugly bird-type things." Yue decided she wasn't going to find the source of the song then, instead choosing to continue on the path.

After the last apparate they could see lights in the distance. "It's the Vale, we saw this picture in the book!" The lights signalled the way to the Vale. "We just have to get through the Dark Blizzard." There was a part of the mountain sealed off by the Snow Dragons, a Dark Blizzard. Inside here the wind was at it's strongest, and it was so dark you could barely see anything, not even your own hand if you held it in front of you. It was a magical darkness, of course. Yue had read it. "We have to follow the light's signal to get through, but once we're there we'll be in!" Rain's wings were folded carefully over her because they did not like the snow and wind. Yue looked at Rain pointedly, who sighed. "Fine, I can just apparate us past it, God." The demon stammered, gathering everyone for the apparate spell. "I just thought braving the dark blizzard would be a cool adventure, that's all..." She muttered sadly under her breath, tail between her legs.

"Nearly there," Zinnia promised, they would apparate once more, although it seemed as though Rain was gong ho to go through the dark mist. Zinnia raised a brow, wondering what the demon was thinking. To walk through uncharted territory was asking a lot for a day trip. Perhaps another time, but for today, they would apparate to the other side. Zinnia held onto Blithe who held onto Rainarch, who was holding onto Yue and together they apparated into the Vale. Surrounding them on all four sides were the snowy caps of the mountains, a small town with smoking chimneys sitting in the valley at the center. There was a frozen lake on one side on which children could be seen skating across wearing shoes with blades, on the other side were steaming springs that others enjoyed soaking in, they supposedly were said to have rejuvenating properties that might soothe the soul.

"Ah, here at last. Welcome to Vale," her chair was having a rough time in the snow, it seemed the wheels couldn't find footing on the ice and were sliding back and forth. They parked her chair underneath a tree and Zinnia rode on one of Blithe's shoulders, a tail steadying her. "This is your trip Yue, the dragon migration will not be visible until noon time, so what would you like to do in the meanwhile?" A small shop nearby was selling warm confection, the smell tantalizing, on the other side was a man chopping wood to feed a large fire in a pit in the center of town, where several small children were roasting sticky sweets on sticks to enjoy. It was lively for midday, it seemed even the people of Vale were enjoying summer vacation.

This was as warm as the mountainous region would get during the summer months, a toasty just below the freezing point. Why did these mountains never see a true spring? It was because of the snow dragons that resided there. No doubt the other cities believed the citizens in this town to be mad, considering they couldn't leave their homes without a coat lest their hands and feet be subjected to frostbite. The town thrived on folklore, tourism from the other magical cities, their hot springs, and of course, the dragons. Today was a busy day for them, there were mages of all talents and backgrounds who had come to catch a glimpse of the migration and hopefully be lucky enough to catch a molted scale. Zinnia herself had her hopes set on finding one, or perhaps buying one off of a fellow mage with the money from Freya.

"There's no wrong answer of course, we can always come back later on." If they were still living together at that point. Who knows? Yue might find a group of friends at the University, she might move into the dorms, go her separate way, and be done with Zinnia forever. It was always a possibility and it would hurt, but Zinnia would move on, like she always did. People came and went, but for the time being, Zinnia would enjoy the company.

Ignoring Rain's sad sulking that no one wanted to enter the dark with her, they vanished in a puff of smoke, reappearing in the Wrestal Vale, a small town high up in the hills where a modest amount of mages lived. It was small, difficult and arduous to reach, but there was a simple beauty about the place in it's solitude. The snow dragon scale would have to wait until noon so they had some free time until the majestic migration of the snow dragons from farther up north, to the valley close by the town's borders. Yue looked around, impressed at how different it was from Constantina. Little kids whizzing about a frozen lake on broomsticks, whacking a ball around, another was making a snowmage by rolling balls of snow on top of each other.

"Let's go check out the jewelry here!" Up here there was a very rare ore, Adalite, that could only be made in conditions of extreme cold. It was a magical ore with magical properties when used in forging or alchemy, so it was highly sought after. Of course this meant jewelry made with the sparkling blue adalite was outrageously expensive, not only for it's job as protective wards against simple misfortune, but also because of it's rarity and how pretty it was. It could only be mined in the mines up at the Vale, and Rain very clearly wanted to get some. "We can get an adalite ring for you and Zin!" Demons didn't need them but it would help against minor things like a cold, or a low level demon's hex. Yue frowned, remembering the price tags on the rings, shaking her head. "Then let's only buy one for Zin then!" The problem was, Yue and Rain did not have money of their own just yet, for now Zinnia was the one who could decide what to buy.

What else was there in the travel brochure? Suddenly an idea popped to mind. "Oh, that sounds good too. Let's use the hot spring!" Up this high in the mountains, one attempt to mine results in finding a well of heat, no doubt near the volcano's flowing magma. The mix of a perfect mountain view of the valley, as well as the warmth of the water and the healing properties within meant that there was no reason not to want to pick this first. After the walk this morning, Yue would love to enjoy a nice moment of relaxation for two hours before the dragons came. "Come on, let's go!" Rain's tail was wagging, she was excited as well.

It was customary to leave your clothes in cubbies magically linked to your ID so no one else could open. Once you checked out the cubbies would be blank again for another person to link to. You had to wash yourself off first, but after your body was cleansed you could sink into the bubbling warm water and enjoy the rejuvenation. Rainarch wiggled as she didn't bother stripping, merely morphing so that she appeared naked. Yue blushed as she took her clothes off, still not the most comfortable with her new scar-less body. Of course none of them would add up to Blithe's bouncing assets, some things were just an impossible feat.

"Boob fox." A certain bat demon whispered.

Adalite was a rare commodity, one that Zinnia knew well. "It would be in your best interest to purchase Adalite towards the end of the day," Zinnia said, rolling up her sleeve to reveal a bracelet made of it. "It works best in the evening, adalite's properties are considered to be at their strongest under the stars." Although no doubt Yue was aware of this. Of course, all the rumors surrounding the stone were mostly myths. That being said, Zinnia had been hit by a hex the one day she hadn't worn the bracelet Elder Drake had gotten for her. "Adalite is not cheap, you don't have the money for it and quite frankly, neither do I." Sure, Zinnia had some stores, but Adalite was a precious gem that was hard to mine and even harder to fashion into jewelry.

Yue chose the hot springs as her first activity of the day. Zinnia nodded, Blithe leading them there. "It will be a nice soak," Zinnia admitted, glad that Yue had chosen to go there. She hadn't wanted to influence Yue and Rainarch's decisions, but the hot springs was revitalizing and made the normal tense state of her body relax. Once inside, their cubbies were linked to their wands and they were given robes and towels. "This way you two," Blithe them into the dressing room, placing her Master down on a bench. Zinnia wriggled out of her clothing, Blithe taking her's off as well. It was abundantly clear, in the nude, that Blithe was rather well endowed. "Don't stare, you're just making it weird," the fox scolded Yue and Rain, who were ogling.

Much like the other two, Zinnia's chest was small. She wrapped herself in her towel and Blithe lifted her once more, "there are several baths, but the outdoor one has the best view of the mountains." Zinnia advised, letting Yue pick which one she wanted to experience first. After her choice was made, Blithe let Zinnia off of her shoulders and the witch released her towel, slipping quickly into the water so no one could see the marking on her stomach. The bath was empty, save for the four of them. The bath house was popular, but today, the outdoor activities would be the highlight of all the tourists passing through the town. Perhaps they would explore those a bit later, once the dragons had come and gone and the mages began to trek home.

"There are several baths here, each named for a precious gem. The cold baths, Sapphire and Phosphate are meant to be soaked in to cool off. Beryl and Ruby are the outdoor baths, the one's with the best views. There's emerald, whose waters are green due to the eucalyptus leaves infused in the water, and pearl, due to the milky content of the bath that is supposedly the best for your skin." Zinnia counted them all off on her fingers. She had visited Vale only once before on her travels with Freya, they had stopped here on the way to Constantina, they had visited the baths and a healer to see what could be done about Zinnia's bow legs. In the end, they had to be painfully bound to boards and slowly rotated until the child could stand on her own and walk with the guidance of Madame Pomfrey.

The hotsprings was an obvious choice for the anarchy duo to make, but a new set of choices was presented to poor Yue and Rain. They wouldn't be able to buy adalite which was a shame, they would have to find a way to buy some at a later date then, wouldn't they? It was an odd sensation, and Yue shivered, trying to fight the cold. Rain looked a bit guilty because she knew it was her fault but ultimately her feeling bad wouldn't take away Yue's cold sensitivity. Each pool was named after a gem, and each one had a special purpose that it could perform. Obviously they didn't want to go into the cooling off ones yet, those would be saved for later. "Outdoor for now?" Rain decided for them, knowing Yue was struggling.

"After that we can dip into the milky one!" Though Rain didn't know if there were any rules against mixing and matching baths. Yue didn't remember either, they clearly didn't spend too much in depth reading of each attraction, merely reading the basics. "Although my skin is already perfect." Rain flaunted with a giggle, there was narry a blemish on her soft flesh. Naturally because she was a mist demon first and foremost, there was no reason for her to have skin problems. Yue looked down at herself, her body was once decently built with some muscle thanks to her job. Now she was scrawnier, and her scars were gone too. Years of torture probably ruined any chance for her to develop athletically, which was fine. Blithe was course was big and voluptuous, the head turner of their group. Zinnia was small and cute, looking like someone Yue would want to hug.

The heat of the Beryl pool was scrumptious and if Yue could moan the pleasure out she would have. She shut her eyes, soaking in the feeling of warm heat hugging her body, enveloping it in a blanket of comfort." Hey, keep your eyes peeled." Rain instructed, pointing out to the distance. "Look at that view! Isn't it hot?" Hot was an odd way to explain the exquisite landscape, at the structure of ice and snow that littered the path down the mountain back to the grassy plains. If you looked hard enough you could see the start of the fields that marked the central region in the magical world. Yue glanced at Zinnia, wondering if she could see the beauty too.

"In a week Ulrich will be evaluating you." Rain said quietly, the bat demon introspective now. Her mouth was creased in worry, her eyes focused. It was stressful to think about. While the meeting with Dean Eincrad went over well there was no saying what the Elder wanted from her. "You've learned a lot, but there's a reason why he chose to sponsor you." And if they couldn't satisfy that reason then it might all just be for naught anyways. Zinnia taught her well so far, Yue didn't want to disappoint her, disappoint Ulrich to took an interest in her, disappoint Rain who wanted a strong master to serve. "Hey!" Rain snapped, hands on her hips. "I'll serve you even if you're a pathetic weakling that can't even Excelsior!" Yue frowned, trying to ignore her failure to cast that spell.

There was a lot that Zinnia still did not know about, as knowledgeable as she seemed, she was still only an apprentice. There was so much more to the magical world that the young witch wanted to understand. Memorizing spells, plants, and potions could only get one so far, but to put them into practice was something else. Zinnia gazed at the horizon as she sank into the warmth of the bath, steam dancing on the surface of the water. The view was something to behold, beautiful, a deep blue sky with barely a cloud to blur their view. The mountains spiraled upwards, dotting the horizon. They overlooked the town, the wooden houses, some with neat little flower pots that had various cold whether plants growing from them. A blanket of snow dusted upon everything, dying it with the purity of white.

"Do you think Yue is ready?" Blithe asked softly as the other two had their own conversation. "Ulrich will be here next week, if she isn't, it makes you look bad." Blithe's tails swished underneath the water, sending bubbles around the warm water. "Have a bit of faith Blithe," Zinnia smiled, leaning on the railing as she stared downwards. "Yue has proved herself to be more than prepared for the upcoming exam." She could already cast a spell without speaking; Zinnia had convinced Yue that most mages could perform one or two when in truth, only a handful could cast a full spell without using their voice. Why? Because when one was not in completely sync with their wand, their wishes could not be carried out.

Zinnia herself could only perform two unspoken spells, although both were relatively small in the scheme of things. One to spark the lights, the other to wash the dishes. The warmth flushed her cheeks pink and her nose red, but Zinnia enjoyed it. Her hair was braided in a crown above her head, Blithe having put it all up for her. "Yue, what do you make of it?" Zinnia inquired, "an entire town perpetually covered in snow. Is it a curse or a gift?" It wasn't a trick question or some kind of test, Zinnia was genuinely curious on the outsider's view of such things. The mages knew the higher up one went, the colder things would get, but the altitude of this mountain range was not all that high considering other spots in the world that were much higher and still saw summer and spring.

Was it the dragons? Or something else? Zinnia had always thought them to be lucky. What little snow they had in Constantina often melted within a week and would become sleet that would make it difficult for her chair to wheel in. The winter's in Constantina were not horrible, but Zinnia wan't particularly fond of that time of year based on the fact that the days were short, the evenings longer, and the beast inside of her seemed to grow stronger in the darkness. She placed one hand on her stomach, the seal invisible beneath the water. She could still recall the first time it had happened and it was a wonder Yue hadn't run as fast and far as she could upon a first glance.

Zinnia had come to ask her a question, wading her way through the water. Yue listened, wondering the purpose of the question. Zinnia was a mentor yes, but at this point she wasn't just a mentor anymore but was also a friend now. So then, couldn't it be that this was just a question out of curiosity? Was it a blessing or a curse for a town to be perennially under the fall of snow? Yue could see both sides of the equation - the answer to her didn't seem to be very clear cut. She gestured Rain over and the bat demon dutifully followed orders, fluttering over, her face flushed with the heat of the bath. Yue transmitted her answer to her demon, who nodded with a lazy grin.

"Master says that it's both a blessing and a curse." Rain said with a half lidded smile, it was obvious the demon was on the verge of passing out. Were mist demons more sensitive to temperatures because their bodies weren't exactly solid? "If you don't like cold or the messes of snow, then it's an unbearable hell, but if you like the cold and appreciate the wonders of living in a place with rare views, then it's most definitely a blessing. Yue hated cold, but she knew that it was a rare and wonderful thing to be able to watch the snow dragons fly through twice a year, to be able to bathe in the best hot spring in the magical world.
There was a lot to consider, really. 'Master also wonders what you think." Rain droned on in her half monotone tilt. "I'm so hungry."

After cooling off in the cooling baths, they got themselves dressed because there was a special event today that wouldn't come for another six months. It was, of course, the migration of the snow dragons returning to the Wrestal Vale. It was also in part for Rain's benefit, who was overheating and wouldn't be able to handle the heat much longer. Yue pointed to the sky, it was almost time. There was a viewing platform in town for anyone interested to see the the dragons. Even some of the locals would be attending as they gathered on the platform, enhanced with heating magic of course so the bitter cold wouldn't permeate the platform. Someone who seemed like a town elder cast a spell, causing the platform to rise. Why did the snow dragons allow their migration to be a spectacle?

It was because the people of the Vale would give them food tributes every month, of course, out of respect and endearment. Therefore the dragons permitted their existence here on their mountain. "Look." Rain said with a quiet grin, directing Yue to stare at the distance, the shape of the dragons flying in. Locals watched in muted appreciation, locals were gossiping and gasping in awe. Majestic they were, wings beating in unison, their white scales glistening to the sun's light. Would a scale fall? Yue would join the hunt for one in the snow below, but it would be hard since there were many here who wanted a chance to grab a snow dragon's scale.

Zinnia nodded, she had a feeling that's what Yue's answer was going to be. The witch wanted to know her opinion and Zinnia contemplated the topic. "Good and bad are subjective. What might be good to one could be awful for another," the witch replied. "Therefore, I do believe that anyone of the mages living here have the will to make their own conclusion on their situation." Because who was Zinnia to pass judgement? It was clear that Rainarch was growing light headed. Blithe, who was a fire demon, was perfectly comfortable in the hot water. Zinnia too, was growing a bit warm for comfort. "Perhaps we should all go sit in the cooling bath?" She suggested, knowing that Rain wasn't going to do it out of sheer determination. "What's the matter Rainarch, can't take a bit of heat?" Blithe teased as she made her way over to Zinnia to lift her out of the water.

They sat in the cooling bath until they were ready and then went to redress themselves. "This isn't mine," Zinnia murmured as she pulled out her bundle of clothing, there was a ring sitting atop of everything. It was made of Adalite, or at least, it seemed to be. "I don't sense any hexes within..." she trailed off, tapping it once with her wand. There was no magic imbued in the ring and the other cubbies were empty. "Here, Yue, a gift." Zinnia placed the ring in her hand, closing her palm around it. "Take care not to lose it," where had it come from? Zinnia wasn't certain, but there was no evidence that anyone else had been here. A gift from the folk?

They returned to the wind and cold, a light snow fall dusting them. Zinnia worked her hair out of the intricate braids and allowed it to flow freely down her shoulders, a red curtain blowing in the wind. Blithe tucked a strand behind her ear for her, rather warm despite the frigid temperatures. Although, that could be because of the warmth that her familiar emitted. They stood atop one of the rising platforms, a better view offered to them from over the houses on the ground. Zinnia looked up to the sky, the first head of a dragon coming in to view. They were truly marvelous beasts, majestic in every sense of the word. Zinnia was in awe, her face lit up with a certain wonder.

The spectators all huddled around them, but thanks to sitting on Blithe's shoulder, Zinnia had a view above them all. Like rain, the dragon scales began to fall, blending in with the snow. "Yue, open up your hands," Zinnia said softly, not wanting nearby mages to hear. She could see them, scattering, by the time they landed they would be few and far between. Was it cheating? Perhaps, but Zinnia wanted to make certain that Yue was rewarded for her efforts. "Wingard," Zinnia muttered, her wand pointing true. A cluster of scales twirled in a vortex, landing in Yue's hands.

It seemed Zinnia thought similarly as Yue - this place covered in endless snow could be either good or bad, depending on the person. They weren't here to make judgment, they were just tourists passing through. Rain was most definitely not handling the hot spring well at all, flushed and dizzy and half falling asleep. "I can super handdle ittt..." Rain slurred her words in a pathetic attempt to defend her integrity against Blithe's teasing words. Yue smiled and helped pull Rain out of the heat and into cooling baths where the bat demon could rejuvenate her energy. They still had the rest of the day after all, it wouldn't do to be worn out after the first attraction. They left the bathing areas and as they got dressed Zinnia found a strange object, handing it over. An Adalite ring? Yue smiled at Zinnia with thanks, slipping it onto her fingers with a wiggle.

Up here at the viewing platforms - there were three of them for three different angles of the spectacle - the snow dragons had arrived, beating their majestic pristine white wings against the beautifully flourishing sky illuminated by the sun's rays. The white of the snow around the magnified the sunbeams, making almost a glowing halo effect around the dragons as they flew in. Everyone drank the sight in, it was truly glorious. Dragons shed scales as they fly and this time was no exception, mages already flying off the platform to try to get their pick of the lot. Yue was about to jump onto Rain and grab as many as she could but then Zinnia had a better idea, with a simple mutter of a spell a slew of scales flew into Yue's hands. Rain cast an air of invisibility so no one could see them and Yue pocketed them safely into her pouch.

First the ring, then the scales, Zinnia really was spoiling her, wasn't she? Yue wanted to be useful too, she wanted to do something nice for Zinnia who was always looking after them, like something between a mother, a friend, and a teacher. Rain grinned, having recovered and was back in her element. It seemed she approved of the devious display. Once the dragons flew past them towards their home the platforms were lowered and the tourists went back to touring the place. The day seemed to go by at a brisk pace, including Yue discovering that snow pies were in fact, not pies made of snow, but rather a fluffy delicacy many of the Vale's residents enjoyed eating for a midday meal.

The afternoon sun was bearing down on them. As the four of them walked through, intending to try out another diner, Yue's attention was caught by some children playing around the ice rink. One of them began to cry because she accidentally cast a fire spell, making the ice melt and thus they couldn't play hockey anymore. At this young age most magical folk couldn't control the magic quite yet. "Take care of it, Master." Rain whispered, giving Yue back her voice. Was it unnecessary? Sure. But she wanted a chance to show off some of her magic for her mentor. "Prevuscio." She pulled out her wand, a glowing white beam of energy shot forth, shooting bursts of water to douse the fire, allowing the water to harden and become ice once again. Rain took away the dark energy with another snap of the fingers and Yue felt good about herself. Did Zinnia see? Was she impressed by such simple magic?

Zinnia closed her eyes, soaking in the sun, relishing the feeling of the warmth upon her skin. She had no idea what the next trials of her life would be like, but Zinnia knew one thing, the dragons were magnificent. She had pocketed a few scales for herself and Freya, it seemed that they had shed quite the bounty and as other wizards and witches frantically searched the snow, Zinnia slipped them into a velvet bag and stuck it in her chemise. The platform began to lower and they continued on with their day as though nothing had happened. "That was great!" Blithe grinned, "real dragons! How come we've never done this before?" She inquired to her Master, who shrugged. "Without such a large group taking turns apparating, the journey takes several days and is rather rough." Blithe nodded, her eyes sparkling. "You weren't listening, were you?"

They meandered along the promenade, the four of them quite an odd group. "I'd like to peruse their general store, if you wouldn't mind?" Zinnia inquired, turning in time to catch Yue cast a spell. "Clever," she smiled with an approving nod. It wasn't perfect, it could use some fine tuning, but Zinnia could appreciate the creative use of a spell. "Well executed, you're improving." Zinnia tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, nodding in approval and perhaps a bit impressed. She would have used a different spell to simply ice the spot over, but this was a nice show for the children.

The children were impressed by the theatrical spell casting. Yue wiggled her fingers at them and the girl who had been crying wiggled back before turning back to her game with her friends on the ice. Zinnia complimented Yue for her work and she blushed a little, nodding. "Master wanted to show off." Rain said, interpreting Yue's thoughts for them, tail wrapping around her leg. "Oh, that's the general store. Let's stock up on things!" No doubt exotic ingredients could be found here that weren't normally available in Constantina for Zinnia's potion work. Yue wasn't the biggest potion enthusiast but she knew it was an important skill to have, especially if she wanted to do a complicated potion like a Potion of Dragon's Might. Would it help Zinnia out, would it give her more strength?

"That's one down, four more to go." Rain seemed happy with herself and Yue was too. All they needed was a way to get scales from the other four breeds of dragons - fire, wind, and divine - how would they get them was anyone's guess but Yue was committed to the task. It might take years bit this was a long term project she wanted to undertake as thanks for all of Zinnia's care. Fire dragons can be found in the other mountain range to the west, where the volcanic wastes were. Wind dragons like the open plains and temperate weathers, they were rare but could be found around Constantina in transit from north to south. As for divine dragons, they were a very rare occurrence. "Divine dragons only appear when they are needed." Rain explained as they waited for Zinnia and Blithe who were at the general store. "Otherwise they defend the Tree of Mana from being found." The Tree of Mana was what allowed fae creatures to exist in the human realm, and was also what maintained the veil. Divine dragons decreed that they were the only ones allowed to know where it was, so no mages could find it.

Zinnia bounced on the balls of her feet as Zinia crouched to let her legs rest, leaning against the wooden wall of the general store. "I hope you haven't forgotten your revenge, Yue." The bat demon said thoughtfully. "I hate the idea of your evil family hurting you and getting away with it." Yue frowned, knowing what the right answer was. Flammel helped her and wanted to get her past the idea of revenge, she knew that very much. Her scars were taken from her, and a part of the burden of her past as well. But even so, it didn't mean the past didn't happen. While Yue's demeanor was lighter than it was before, didn't mean all scars had healed. Of course once the time was right, she would get her revenge. It just wasn't as urgent a priority as before is all.

Rain smiled, a devious giggle. "Good." She held Yue's hand as if to help with the cold. "You deserve closure, Master." The bell jingled, signaling the door opening. Was Zinnia done yet? They had a decent journey back home to make soon after all.

Zinnia smiled, "Very nicely done then," it had truly been a show for the children, who had been enthralled. Children in these parts didn't often learn complex magic, they only learned spells that would help them assist their families or in the professions they chose. Very few moved on to Constantina to become profound wizards and witches of great renown. Such had been the case with Zinnia's parents, who had only been able to cast spells that assisted in daily living. She had striven for greatness from a young age, which was why her parents had been so daunted by her. Blithe's tails swished, the children seemed curious by the familiars, but fearful as well. They embraced dragons, but magical foxes and bats were a bit far fetched for the village of Vale.

"We won't be too long," Zinnia promised as they entered the General Store, Blithe letting her down. She floated around the store, looking at the various wares the village sold. "Can I help you?" A girl asked, stepping into the aisle. Like most of the citizens of Vale she had pale blue eyes and hair the color of snow. She was holding a glass bottle, which she promptly dropped upon setting eyes on them. "Y-you're!" Blithe sidled over, slipping a hand over the girl's mouth. "I would appreciate it if you didn't make too big a fuss," Zinnia smiled, "my companions are just outside." The girl nodded and Blithe released her. "That hair, that familiar, you're Zinnia Evernight!" She ran forward, Zinnia quickly casting a rewind spell to clean up the mess on the floor as the girl took her hands, acting familiar despite the fact that they were very much strangers.

"I've seen you on the spheres," the spheres of course were the telecommunications devices they used to connect one city to the next. "My Grandma told me stories, she was from Constantina. The whole town knows you're the person that cured the snow pox," Zinnia blushed. "My Master, Freya, came up with the baseline, I simply put the ingredients together and improved the potion." The girl nodded, "All that was left was a scar!" She rolled up her sleeve excitedly to show Zinnia the scar on her forearm. "I was hoping you could be of some assistance, you see, I'm here on a project." The girl nodded eagerly, "My name is Amarie, please, let me help you!" Zinnia nodded, wishing the girl wouldn't make such a fuss. "Amarie, I need an eye of Amalthie, witch puff, and crescent bug. They're all native to these mountains, I believe, I was told by my teacher I might find them here." Amarie nodded, scrambling to scour the shelves for them.

Zinnia drifted down the various aisles, picking up other items she knew she would not come by easily in Constantina. "Here, I've found them!" Amarie placed them on the counter, "Let me just get my Father, I can't do the math." She apologized, slipping behind a set of silken curtains. A man appeared, his hair black, his eyes green, an impossibility, this man was not Amarie's father, at least, not genetically. "Can I help you?"

"I'd like to purchase these items," Zinnia replied smoothly, conjuring her coin purse. He watched her, narrowing his eyes. "The White Witch, eh? You don't seem like much a witch, short stack."

"I'll ask you to not take that tone with my Master," Blithe threatened pleasantly from behind Zinnia.

"An Amalthie eye is a level six potion ingredient, I can't sell it it to children." Zinnia's brow twitched, ever so slightly. Amarie ran out from behind the curtain, grabbing her Father's arm. "Papa! This is the girl that cured the snow pox!" He huffed, "I know you're kind." He narrowed his eyes, "think you're high and mighty because you're from the big city."

"I'll have you know Sir, that my parents are from Begorn," his eyes widened at that. "Begorn?" He huffed, perhaps slightly impressed. "They knew a handful of spells, they sent me to the big city, as you put it, to study. Nothing more, nothing less. If you need, I have documentation to prove that I can handle a level six potion ingredient, but if that isn't sufficient, perhaps I can borrow your sphere to contact my teacher, I'm certain you've heard of her, Elder Council Woman Freya?" His eyes bulged, he tried to pass it off quickly by squinting. "Fine, fine, just leave my daughter out of this. Filling her head with tales of familiars and city dreams."

"Daughters are very much capable of handling themselves, good day sir." Blithe reached forward to take the bag from his hands, dropping the money onto the counter. He picked it up and the two of them turned to leave.

"That eye of Amalthie isn't easy to come by, don't use it all at once."

Zinnia smiled as they stepped out of the door, the bell jingling. "I apologize Yue, it seems we've left you out here in the cold for far too long. Let's return home now, I think this is enough winter for one summer."

"You're gonna want your voice for this."

Ulrich was right. She fell down yet again, wincing in pain, nursing the burns on her wrist. Rain clung to her side, eyes almost glowing in anger at the man standing before them. "Please don't interfere." Ulrich told Blithe and Zinnia as the fight began. "Please trust that there is a reason why I'm doing this." A blast of some strange light flew towards Yue from his wand and Rain pushed her to the side, becoming mist to avoid the attack. "Don't worry, there won't be any permanent damage." Why was Ulrich testing her like this? Why did it have to be a trial by combat? She hardly knew anything, how could she fight against an Elder and hope to land a single hit? "Yue, stop thinking about how strong he is and how weak we are." Rain growled, pulling Yue back to her feet. "In times like this, the only thing that matters is doing it."

Rain was the only one allowed to help her in this trial. For what reason this was happening, Yue hadn't the faintest clue. How was she even going to aim right? One of her eyes were stuck closed due to the swelling from a bramble hex, so everything was a little blurry. "Virlesio!" Yue gasped, waving her wand frantically. "Ante Mirata!" A purple bolt flew towards Ulrich and it dissipated against his barrier. The second spell didn't even go off because she had chained it on the end of Virlesio, but since Virlesio did not hit the target the second portion failed as well. "Clever." Ulrich clapped his hands in amusement. "But you're a bit too early to try chain spells, child." For now Yue was going to have to deal with the barrier, wasn't she?

Yue knew a magic that would work, one that was instant cast instead of a projectile. Nox Walpurgis would win this fight easily, since it ignored barriers. "Don't!" Rain hissed in alarm, pulling her arm down. Blinking, the moon child shook her head. That's right, she couldn't do that or the light bind around her wrist would alert Freya and she would be barred from the magical world forever. "Frelix!" A ghostly arm reached for Ulrich and wrapped around his barrier, squeezing it until it began to crack. "Khazarum!" Yue was about to cast the spell when Ulrich suddenly appeared in front of her, sending her flying into the wall with a wave of energy. He knelt over her, grinning. "Is this all you got, child? I thought you were going to impress me." Yue panted, her lungs were burning, her body was aching. He cupped her cheek, his white hair tickling her own blacks. What could she do? What could she-

She was in the barrier.

She wordlessly cast the stunning spell, a purple bolt striking Ulrich in the knee. He flinched, blinked, and then laughed very hard. Yue tilted her head in confusion. "Well, you hit me. You pass, girl." He let the barrier down and then began nursing her injuries with a wave of the arm that cast sparkles onto her. Yue landed the single hit that was required of her, that was all she needed right? "You surpassed impossible odds despite your fear and managed to fight me, and you resisted the urge to use dark magic like you did before. Even more, you were able to use worldess magic. Not many mages can do that." He said with pride, patting her head. "Not to mention your teamwork with your familiar is admirable. With more practice the two of you will make quite the duo." All of Rain's anger faded away and her tail was wagging happily again.

"Congrats. You've earned my recommendation."

The summer term was coming to an end, there was only a week left and Zinnia crammed in every spare moment with training Yue while perfecting the brew for tree rot. It was exhausting, to say the least, but Zinnia was glad for the dreamless sleep she was blessed with. Yue was practicing outside when Ulrich arrived, the two of them entering the living room, the windows open to allow the cool summer air into the house. Zinnia had her sleeves rolled up, floating beside the table when they entered. She turned, watching as Ulrich made the first strike and informed her to stay out of it. With a wordless nod, Zinnia floated over to the windowsill and sat down, crossing her legs as she watched her student duel with the Elder. She felt nervous, what if Yue wasn't up to scratch? This would reflect poorly on herself and her ability to teach, not that she had ever considered becoming a Professor at the University.

Zinnia watched, Blithe's tails swishing as she too, observed the entire spectacle. "You can do it," Blithe whispered in full support of the mute witch. Zinnia's nails left little moons on her palms, silently rooting for Yue. "Congratulations," she smiled, her shoulders dropping as she relaxed. Zinnia slid off of the windowsill, floating towards them. Ulrich clapped Yue on the back, she had earned it of course, her attack was very clever. "You've done well Yue, I'm certain the University will welcome you with open arms." They wouldn't turn down a student with such a prestigious sponsorship, no doubt. Zinnia's smile fell a bit, no doubt this was the end of it. Ulrich would probably expect Yue to move into the dorms, where she would share a room with someone, most first years dormed on campus.

Zinnia had, she had a private room due to her... unique circumstances and the fact that no one wanted to room with a child. Having despised it, she moved into the dilapidated house as soon as she could. "This is cause for celebration," well, Yue would still need to take the entrance exam, all of this was leading up to it, which would be tomorrow. Everyone had to take it and it was pass or fail, there was no in between. Surely, if Yue could get past the trial of battling an Elder, she could create a Felicious potion with her eyes closed. They had practiced together multiple times and Zinnia had given Yue the task of practicing alone. "The day after next we shall go shopping for your supplies and uniform."

"Fine job Zinnia," Ulrich pat her on the back as well, it seemed he was pleased and for that, Zinnia was thankful. Why was there dread in her chest? It couldn't be the fool moon that evening, Zinnia only marginally dreaded those. Was it the possibility that her home would no longer be filled with mischief and laughter?
