"A difficult individual, for certain. There is intelligence and soul behind those eyes, for true. But getting there, getting past those barbed barriers... now that is a feat in and of itself."
Many would describe Isilja as a bit awkward. A loner who lacks common courtesey when around others, and knows it, but doesn't seem at all bothered by it. Isilja pays little heed to what others might think of her. She stands by her principles and finds it unnatural to tip-toe around issues in social occasions and gatherings. She speaks her mind honestly and uneeringly, and deals with the consequences in an oft childish manner, whether good or bad. Although she pays little attention to the more civilized mannerisms of commonfolk and their traditions, she has an innate respect for all living things, wether people or animal. She cares deeply for those who accept her and love her, but has little value in such friendships if based only on words and promises. Actions dictate her life and drive both her emotions and principles. As such she is trustworthy and undeniably loyal to those who prove themselves honest and caring towards her.
Although she is naturally wary and untrusting of people she does not know, she is rarely rejecting towards them unless they prompt her to be so. Her directness and unabated honesty often works against her in dealing with other people, and that in return tends to make her easily upset or misunderstand people's intentions. Dialogue is also not her forte, however not due to a lack of lingual understanding but rather she seldomly feels like anything needs to be said if there is no importance to it. "Do not speak simply for the sake of speaking" is a very fitting mantra for her. Despite this, she is never shy of being the first to show some goodwill and helpfulness so long as she feels that there is no danger of her being exploited for doing so.
Even though she is at rest within herself and with the world around her, Isilja often finds herself longing for new horizons. A subtle calling echoes deep within her heart, a desire for change and adventure away from the village and woods she has grown up in.
Being a very unmaterialistic person, Isilja tends to carry only what she needs and a few sets of home-made jewelry. Commonly she has a bone dagger strapped to her hip with a leather string, and when away from the village she brings a leather pouch with various neccessities, as well as a sturdy hunting bow with arrows and a spear made from wood and sharpened flint.
Isilja is a young Nambian woman descending from the Tyris tribe on one of Pomas' large islands where she was raised by her mother and father alongside her two older brothers.
Having grown up in a family with two brother siblings, and a male bloodline of hunters stretching back to her father's father's father, a competitive childhood was commonway for Isilja. Her two brothers were destined to follow in their father's footsteps as tribal hunters, and their early childhood training had Isilja often left to her own musings at an early age. Being the youngest child in the family, her older brothers were an oft mischevious pair, not shy of teasing and challenging their little sister to games of sport and physical contests. The ever-present focus on physical training and hunting in the family permeated Isilja's home and daily life, and the many harsh, although friendly, larkings with her two brothers-in-training made the young Nambian girl more and more a wildchild, who preferred being out in the woods pretending to be a predator on the hunt for prey instead of playing with the other children. Her love for the wild life especially alienated her from the other girls in the village, and no boys other than her brothers held any interest in spending time with her. Instead of fitting in, she found solace in nature and the outdoors, the trees and the animals of the woods.
Tribe hunters are chosen at a very early age, usually enlisted by their parents. Most children begin the long and arduous study once they've reached their 9th year of age, and despite the lateness of years, it seemed only natural on the day when the tribe elders suggested that Isilja, at the age of 15, be allowed to train as a tribe huntress. With four trials successfully behind her, the blooming Nambian is nearly half-way to the completion of her honorable tattoo that will eventually mark her ten year journey to becomming a Grand Huntress of the Tyris tribe.
