Blingdenstone, a city that was once the home of thousands of svirfneblin (deep gnomes) and the only safe refuge in the northern Underdark, is in ruins. Although a brave band of svirfneblin struggles to reclaim the city, they cannot do so without help.

Introduction

Image

About a century ago, several thousand svirfneblin called Blingdenstone home. Their former settlement is a mere forty-five miles from Menzoberranzan, the drow city, but the gnomes used illusion, geomancy, and traps to avoid drow attention. This peaceful existence was shattered, however, when drow came in force to enslave the svirfneblin. Fewer than a thousand gnomes escaped to the surface, finding refuge in city of Silverymoon in the Silver Marches, where most have lived in exile ever since.

In the last four decades, svirfneblin have begun moving back into the ruins to recover their homes, with aid from the folk of the Silver Marches. But developments in the past few years have drawn the attention of surface folk away from Blingdenstone. Efforts to reclaim the ruins have stalled. The gnomes’ supplies and numbers have begun to dwindle. They need help to reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

Whether lured by the promise of glory or driven by a desire to help, you and your companions have traveled far to lend aid to the svirfneblin of Blingdenstone. After drow attacked the city to enslave the deep gnomes, the survivors lived in exile for over a century. But some have returned to their home, and they’re embroiled in a battle to rid their caverns of monstrous inhabitants.

Your guide is a svirfneblin explorer named Briddick, who is slender with slate-gray skin, a bald head, and wide, gray eyes. He leads the way through secret tunnels and a winding labyrinth. Finally, you reach the ruined city. Work to repair damage the drow dealt continues. The gnomes wear tattered armor and bloody bandages. They carry notched and broken weapons, suggesting that the fighting has been fierce and frequent.

This role play tab is currently under construction and will not be accepting any new characters at the moment. Consider it invitation only for the time being. This will be a playtest of D&D Next and how the system can handle online, text based, chat settings. It will take place over the course of roughly six play sessions; live and in chat. More information will be placed as soon as possible.

Keep in mind I will have pre-made characters that you can use. To save time, we will not be going over how to create characters. Unless you have signed up for the playtest on Wizards of the Coast's website and have the playtest materials, you will be required to use a premade character. This can be done very easily, and for free; if you are interested just click here. If you acquire the playtest packet, please do not read through the premade adventure. It is what I am testing with and will cause unwanted metagaming; that will ruin the event for others. If I find that you have done so, I'll have to remove you from the events and allow someone else in instead.

Do not post a character unless you have been invited, please. Below are links to the pre-made characters.

If you are confirmed, create your character by giving it a name and describing what they look like and all. Make sure to keep their alignment Neutral Good or higher.

It seems everyone noticed the obvious kobold trap this time around. Another trip wire at the foot of the door. Another net and sack full of plates... The halfling has little problem disarming the trap.

You all finally see the passage. A fissure that had opened long ago, just inside the back of the Foaming Mug. It opens up outside of the building, just barely room to squeeze between it and the ale house. It's a good twenty feet wide by twenty feet tall. It goes southeast before narrowing further down.

"Where it narrows, you should seal it... With those pickaxes... But, I understand you need those fine crystals... I'll let you get six of them, after that... I'm out of here; that tunnel must be sealed if we're to stop the kobold attacks."

The elf listens in on the low rumblings that sound from within the tunnel. Other than wind and the sound of falling stones manages its way this far.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

No, they haven't released the paladin yet.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

is it possible to change the human fighter to a human paladin? if so im joining

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

It is perfectly fine, I believe yer the first to actually submit a character; kudos as well! I didn't expect so much for a playtest, enjoyable ^^. I'm keeping you in close contact for any future online adventures I run as well!

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Sorry for the delay, Vexar, I'll have the character sheet up in a couple hours~

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

The Shadow, if you want then; pick up one of the remaining characters and let me know which one it is.

As long as you're available after 7pm EST!

Just give that character name and a description ^^.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

I am in a currently active DnD group offline. I was thinking of making a human freelance cleric for it who simply asked for help from any god/goddess in return for whatever they wanted (They'd have to bargain and haggle and stuff) though interestly enough I was considering making him an atheist.

Still I'm never really sure what I want to RP as exactly, I get an idea for a character and then find out that they aren't as good as I thought they might be.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

I hear ya. Unfortunately going through all of that online would be more of a hassle than I can handle at the moment. Perhaps in the future; after this playtest is done!

I made a note to keep things Neutral Good or higher, other than that; Name, Description is all that is required; more if you want ^^.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Blargh. It's weird creating just the history and appearance and stuff. I yearn to roll dice and let my hair flow in the breeze see random numbers.

But awesome! I also see they're bringing back hit dice...oh joy.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

xD It ends up being way less complex once we get down to it. But, it's tough to learn from at the moment because of it being in the testing phase. But, consider that cleric yours! I'll update it. Go ahead and post a character profile for it; give it a name and all that jazz and I'll keep you updated ^^.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Human Cleric, heckz yeah!

And days...well...um. Any day, I suppose? I'm flexible~

And...the character look almost identical to 4e ones, just ALOT more complex in terms of flavor powers/abilities...to me, at least.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Actually, yes, but we'll get to that. Consider yourself invite! Having 4e experience is a very good thing. This system seems to draw on the best of all editions; and improving on some of the foundation left by 4e. I'll be posting times to play once we can all agree on them.

There are four pre-made characters left, choose one and let me know.

As for times of the week, what works for you? It will most likely take place some time after 7pm EST on any day.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Wootwoot! I am in an EST-zone!

Experience...well, I got in to DnD a few years ago, but only playeda little bit of 3e before it was overshadowed by 4e. Sooo, I'm much more accustomed to 4e's simplified classes and mechanics. I've played about...10 full-length(about 10-15 3-5 hour sit-downs depending...) campaigns? The rest were mini encounters at comic shops with random people ^^; it's kind of hilarious watching people build godawful PC's and the DM purposely not swarming them just so they have a chance.

Hm..OH! I've also got all of the core rulebooks, the "powers"(martial, divine, psionic, primal) expansion books, the "Heroes of" and essentials books, and I use my buddy's subscription to DnD insider/Dungeon/Dragon magazine, so I have ALL of those awesome new class powers and feats.

Plus, I'd love to play any role. I love Strikers, Defenders, Controllers, and Leaders especially. My first PC was a cleric, and having the power to save everyone from ruin with a single spell is epic. To me, at least.

Need anything else?

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Smith: This is going to be running very shortly. Keep in mind it is a playtest only of the new system. I'll be running it live only (basically chat only). It should be, roughly, a six part adventure. If you are in a timezone that is friendly with EST; then you might be able to join. Can you tell me what tabletop role play experience you've had (online or off)?

The Shadow: It should be, if I do not find players with enough experience, consider yourself the first non experienced player I'll invite. I'll send you a private message if so!

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

This seems really interesting and I have wanted to try DnD as an online thing before. So if possible I would like to join up.

Re: DnD Next Playtest: Reclaiming Blingdenstone

Oh my various gods...I...I want this. So badly.

Any estimates on when it'll be up and running?
