Zetisuke Krovi

"My kin are dishonored because of one man. Can I make a difference to reverse that?"

0 · 470 views · located in Elenia

a character in “Elenia: Dark Age”, as played by Magix

Description

Just to Note, he is usually called Zet rather then by his full name.

Age: 21

Gender:
Male

Race:
Light Elenian

Image

Image

He rarely takes off his hood other then for sleeping. However if he does under it one would see bright emerald green eyes and shorter white hair.

Personality-
(Reading the Biography first will help understand this better)
Because of the way he was raised and not being able to reach his dreams, he is un trusting of people at first. However if he thinks of you as an ally, his loyalty is un surpassed. He would gladly lay down his life to save one of his friends. That being said he is pretty outgoing even if it is halfway faked at first so he can see what someone is like. He doesn’t let pain and despair rule his life, in fact it’s quite the opposite. He looks at every problem as an obstacle he can overcome and won’t stop until he does. A burning will, with an Iron clad goal, and a pure heart drives him to save the world from this war, hopefully restoring his families honor in the mix.

Skills/Weapons-

Being from a Clan that specializes in techniques utilizing blood (Krovi), Zet is no different.

- Blood Rage: He can activate this ability at will in order to gain a power boost that is different from normal means. This can make his blade sharper and much more durable, his throws stronger, ect, however it is all at the cost of bringing damage to his own body. Say he uses it to cut through a stone wall, his arm would begin to bleed as if it were cut open as well. A dangerous technique, that is even more dangerous without someone who can heal around as damage can stack up rather quickly.

- Krovian Durability: While not the most creative name, this is a secondary passive ability only certain Krovi clan members are born with. They must be of “pure heart” so they can avoid the evils that may come with the skill. The More Damage one takes and the more blood they are covered in (theirs or an enemies) the stronger, faster and more agile they become. However it cannot be intentionally put there by him or an ally. If that were to happen the reverse would occur and he would get weaker, slower, ect.

- Zet specialized his training in quick stealth movements and agility like an assassin, and tries to rely on his ability only when stealth is unavoidable or his target wears thick armor.

Weapons:

He carries Various knives on his person. Two small daggers carried on his waist are actually the only ones visible.
Image

He carries one of these larger blades hidden in each of the gauntlets on his arms. They are actually his main attacking weapons, for close range combat.
Image

Around various parts of his body he has about 20 of these even smaller throwing knives on him for ranged combat. He is capable at still only fighting mid range combat at a max, even with his skills. He is vulnerable to most long range attacks considering they are hard to see incoming and he wears very little armor.
Image

Hidden up his right sleeve and wrapped round his arm he has a Kyoketshu-shogei.
Image
The Chain reaches about 10 feet long, and the weapon (knife and chain) weighs roughly 25 lbs. To see how it's used watch this (it get's gory. If your not into that, don't watch it. I don't wanna make anyone sick.)

*Note: His clothes are specially designed to absorb blood and then to release it when water touches it without leaving behind any blood stains. It was a special gift from his Grandmother before her passing.*

History:
He has spent many years honing his skills in battle as many of the Krovian line do. There has always been Krovian knights, however their blood based skills often made them more feared by their allies then most. He lived a fine life training to one day become a knight, until one fateful day. A Noble knight of his Clan who was also born with the Krovian Durability, went insane on the battlefield slaughtering his own allies in order to eliminate the enemy. The knight was put to death and the Krovian’s were forbid from ever joining any organized army again.

Zet now stands to use his extensive training in order to earn back the honor of his family. He’ll fight to restore balance to the world and even give his life in order to help his family. He hopes to one day ascertain the title of Knight, even if at this point it is impossible for him to.

The Krovi clan. Infamous among the Lethlian kingdom of Yarevon, for a few reasons. One of the founding families of the nation, the Krovi's were once held in high esteem and power. However this all changed about a hundred years ago. An incident, quite sketchy on many of the details would change the view of the Krovi clan forever. They became known as a traitorous clan, and their reputation fell from grace.

Zetsuike Krovi, is a man born with the same abilities as the "traitor" had grown up anything but a sheltered life. He trained since the young age of 5 years old in the ways of an assassin. Becoming more adept with his physical abilities and his magical ones as well. During that time he really found himself, and has but one goal. He wants to clear his families name by proving that the Krovi's aren't traitors, hoping to one day become a knight himself.

Training. That was his daily routine. All training all the time, except when he needed to run errands for his family, or did some kind of mercenary job. Zet had just returned from a job, a small pouch filled with money from the job tucked away. He had touched base with his family, and picked up his hawk named Ruby, from his home.

Zet wasn't one to stop moving. In fact if he wasn't doing something he'd go stir crazy. Since there wasn't much of anything to do, he just went out training with Ruby. In no time flat he was running through a wooded area, running up the trees and jumping from one to another when he could.

That's when it happened. A normal jump, though as his right foot planted on the tree branch he instantly disappeared. He fell, Ruby perched on his shoulder, straight to a cave floor. A strange voice rang out in his mind.

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. In all races, and from every kingdom. You will be put through a trial, and only by passing said trial can you hope to save your life, and protect those that can save this world. Complete your task, but beware. Things may not always be what they seem. Pass and you will join your future comrades, fail and the cave will claim you as it's own forever.

Zet found himself in the cave just walking around. It was pretty dark, and Zet was confused as to what was going on exactly. Trials? It sounded like something out of some story, rather then something that would actually happen. It was like some kind of dream, or perhaps maybe a nightmare instead. "Ruby... We've really got into some trouble this time it seems." the Bird just sat on Zet's shoulder looking just as confused as Zet, but with slightly better vision in the dark.

Zet and Ruby traveled the cave, the only way they could go. Zet soon began to lose track of how long they were even traveling for. It seemed this cave could do that. He wasn't sure if he'd been wandering it for years, months, or even just a few minutes. It all felt the same to him, like he'd been walking forever. Sitting on his left shoulder was his hawk Ruby. She was a bright red hawk, a color most resembling a shining ruby, which is where her name came from. Zet had trained her for years to follow commands. She was his best friend really. Not that he had any other friends outside of the Krovi bloodline.

That's when he heard voices. It was... Two men by the sound of it. One older, probably in his late thirties early forties, and the other about half of that around the age of eighteen to twenty. "I'll kill you boy. I'll make sure you never steal nothing from anyone again!" Yelled the older man. At this point Zet rounded a corner to see the two in a skirmish. For some reason that chamber seemed to be the only one illuminated in this whole cave.

The older man swung his blade right at the throat of the younger man. The younger man parried the blow, locking swords with the older man. It seemed the two were fighting with a single blade each. At least it seemed that way until the younger man pulled a hidden knife and rammed it into the older man's gut. The older man fell to the floor, as the younger man began to walk towards Zet.

Zet pulled the knives from his belt and readied himself for an attack if the younger man wanted it that way. The man just stopped as he noticed Zet and stared at him. "You don't fight with honor. Pulling a hidden blade when it's supposed to be a fair fight with one sword each isn't honorable." Zet didn't know how he knew the rules of the engagement, he just did. Although that was hardly the most confusing thing about all of this.

The young man, about Zet's age just laughed. "That's funny coming from the lying and deceitful tongue of a Krovi." Zet just stared coldly through the hood covering his face. The man couldn't see his eyes, but if looks could kill he'd be ten feet under by now. "You know nothing of my people. We are not the treacherous people as the stories say. One man should not dictate how my clan is, for an incident that there were no witnesses for." The man just laughed in his face. "You're pathetic, along with your clan. I should just kill you now."

Zet was normally passive about what people said about his clan. They've even tried to kill him in the past. This man though... As the man swung his blade Zet rolled to the side diving out of the way, and tossing a blade into the man's throat. As he fell over to the ground he just looked at Zet and laughed, as he disappeared in a flash of light, Zet's dagger falling to the floor devoid of any blood.

In battles, and in life, you will come against torment. You must remember to fight for not only yourself, but everyone you wish to protect as well. Hesitation is what can kill the most skilled warrior. Fighting to protect for what you believe in, is your greatest weapon. Through a strong resolution you can achieve your dreams. Remember these lessons, and go fourth onwards to your destiny.

Zet stared confused as Ruby; who had flown off his shoulder when he dove; landed back onto his shoulder. Then in a flash of light the two were in a cavern with other people. How they all got there, who knows. What was going on remained more a mystery now then ever. It seemed these people were in the same boat as him though, and not being lethlians for the most part, he hoped that they would accept him more easily then most others would.

Scarlet sighed a bit as the Sorian came over. It was a bit of relief that someone seemed willing to help, but it was a bit of disappointment in his question as well. What happened before the baby went missing? Well that was just it. How could she possibly explain what had happened, without seeming completely insane? In the end, she just figured just fuck it, she probably already sounded insane anyway. "Okay, well.... There was this beach... and this wave... The Wave got big, then as it came in the beach disappeared... The wave pushed me in and then I ended up here without the baby. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what happened. If the baby is dead, it's my fault. He wanted me to save him, and he was my responsibility, ya know?... Have you seen him anywhere?" Deep down she knew he probably wasnt’t real. She wasn’t so naive to not see through an illusion, but it wasn’t in her to just give it up so easily.

----------

Zet stood still trying to eavesdrop and gather what little info he could. It seemed that the group wasn’t exactly the most talkative bunch. Some chick looking for a baby, that probably wan’t even hers. In fact that was quite obvious for anyone that really noticed her reaction. A mother, especially a young one, would be completely panicked if their child was missing. This girl, seemed concerned, but not worried as a Mother would be. There was an Aquarian girl that seemed to be the weakest in the room, the girl looking for the baby coming in a close second to her. There were quite a few that looked to be more suited for battle, but bringing them together with weaker people didn’t seem to make much sense. Why were they all here? Well unless someone tried to figure this out, they’d possibly never actually make it out.

Zet had too many things he wanted to do with his life then suffer a pathetic death here. He walked forward, and sent Ruby to search the rest of the cave with just a glance and head movement. Turning around he could see the whole group at once. He decided if no one else would actually break the silence to figure out why they were here, he would. They all had to be wondering it, no? He cleared his throat before speaking. “I am Zetisuke, or Zet for short. I have no idea yet why we’re here, but I intend to figure it out. I will not die here. Does anyone else wish to introduce themselves before we move on?” There probably wasn’t any time to waste with beating around the bush. Best to just be straightforward before the magic air disappeared.

----------

Jet sat down against a nearby wall with his sword in his lap, and didn’t move until things started to pick up again. Even then, it was only what seemed for him to be stretching his neck. After Zet spoke he just laughed a bit. “Oi, ye don’t be fuckin’ puillin’ any punches when ye wanna know something, do ya boyo? I like that about ye, so don’t be gettin’ offended.”

Before Jet had the chance to even say anymore his ears were met with a low growling noise. Shifting in the cave structure? No that wasn't even close to this sound. This was an animal like sound almost. Either they weren't the only ones in that cave, or someone was quite hungry. Jet was inclined to believe the former first. His eyes slowly looked around the cave until they spotted a strange glowing shine from one of the shadows. When the light (that was unexplained on how it was even there in the first place, having no seeming oxygen flow to keep the flames lit or any of them breathing for that matter) hit something just right it gave off this glow. To be more precise, it was 2 small somethings. When he looked at them, they seemed to move a bit, disappearing and reappearing with the movements in and out of the light. Finally they started to move closer. Jet readied himself to face the oncoming creature for whatever it may be, without making movement to alarm the whole cave.

As the creature started to become noticeable, Jet had dropped his guard against it and instead started to laugh a bit. He should have recognized those eyes anywhere. "Oi Shadowmere, I see they brought you 'ere too." Said Jet as the panther came from the darkness and rubbed up against Jet's leg as if it were a common house cat. Jet pet it on it's head, clearly the two knew each other, and it sat down next to him.

Jet then turned his attention back to the ballsy Zet. He wore the colors of a well known Noble Lethlian clan. The Krovi clan was famous, or perhaps infamous was the better term. He wasn’t sure if the other races even knew about them though. “Sorry ‘bout that. Me name is Jet. If we be dyin’ ‘ere so be it.” That being said he took a flask out of his pocket, opening it and taking a swig from it. “I just hope we die while I’m locked.”

Zet stood in the ruins of an old temple. After looking the place over for just a few moments, he knew exactly where they were. He hadn’t come out this far often, but there was one instance in which he had come out this far, and he recollected the area well. This wasn’t one area anyone forgot about easily. Zet walked over to a piece of higher ground, where he could oversee everyone there. That meant they could hear him just as well. They may have pretty much ignored him earlier, but he chalked the rudeness up to the confusing situation there. Now that they knew what was going on.... well, kinda knew.... he expected they’d listen. Well most of them. Well, at least half of them half listening.

Zet cracked his back a bit and stood tall. At least as tall as he could. "Listen up everyone." He said with a loud almost commanding voice. He actually didn’t know if anyone would have a problem with him, but other then maybe the Light host, seeing as he wasn’t sure the extent of the light host’s knowledge of the area, he knew the most about where they were. It was his responsibility as a guardian to protect them all now, and he intended to do as much at the cost of his life if the need arose. "We can't afford to be wandering around at night in these woods. There's a town we can make in a few hours. If we move now, we can get there before nightfall. You don't wanna be caught moving in any of these woods at night if it's unavoidable. Any Lethlian worth their salt knows that."

Zet stepped down from the high ground, as Ruby landed on his shoulder. Well now all that was left to see how they replied. Hopefully, things would go smoothly, though with this ragtag bunch, who knew really.

----------

Scarlet was completely offended by the ass hole of a gem host that she had as her guide. Although she had little time to voice her complaints, she had plenty of them. She wasn’t a weak little girl. She had a good mind to kick that ghost’s ass.... if one could kick a Ghost’s ass..... Who was she kidding, he was probably right. She didn’t have extensive training like some of the others clearly did. Soon enough though, they were move once more. God did she hope that they’d stop teleporting them all randomly. It was annoying and making her feel sick.

After standing for a moment, she realized something. This wasn’t just the teleporting that was making her feel sick. She really did feel like shit all of a sudden. Her body became sort of heavy, she was terribly dizzy, and she tried her best to keep from losing all she had eaten.... ever. What kind of magic was this? To be fine one minute, and the next feel like you’re on death’s door and have been for a while. How could she possibly save anyone like this?

In actuality, Scarlet was just spiking a fever that was rapidly increasing to near borderline death for most, and the other symptoms were just as a result of it. Hard to think about any of that when you can barely stand though. She stood still, trying to take in everything that happened, that was going on, and all that, but it was tough. Maybe she was dreaming? Maybe she was dead. Maybe she just lost her damn mind. Yeah, the latter was probably the most likely thing. She was just nuts, and would probably die alone, because she was so bonkers. Could be worse though. How she didn’t know, but damn it could be worse.

Sitting down, thanks to gravity, she closed her eyes. if she really focused and tried to tell herself she was okay, it could dull the symptoms enough for her to at least concentrate on her fucked up world insider her now insane mind. if she was gonna die, well at least she’d wanna know how, and why.

----------

Jet didn’t say much the whole time. Of course he accepted the gem and the responsibility. Although to be fair, he was partially drunk and not even sure if that was real. Once outside they all kind of began to regain their sense of what was going on, though Jet was kind of at a disadvantage for that. When he looked around he didn’t see with his typical sight. Bright spots were like staring into the sun while wearing night vision goggles. Dark spots were a darker black then he had known to exist. In the moderately lit areas he could kind of make out shapes, but with depth perception completely off. He ended up slamming his eyes shut.

Shadowmere rubbed against his leg, so he leaned on her and pet her head. “Oi Shadowmere, bring me to tha nearest person ye find.” Maybe someone there could help shed some light on his problem. At this point the only vision he had that wasn’t painful, was complete darkness.

----------

Monroe sat on the ground, meditating through most of that entire ordeal. Yes he accepted his fate, and yes he would fight to his full extent. However, there wasn’t a need to give up his beliefs either. He would fight, he would win, and he would keep his inner peace, while hopefully bringing peace to the outer world as well. When he was through meditating, he went to stand up. That’s when he realized it, his feet and arms felt like they had 2 tons of weigh strapped to each of them. Maybe 2 tons is a bit of an exaggeration, but even for the brute that he was, he had trouble lifting them and moving. After a short time, he was finally able to get to his feet, but it was quite the task. He saw the shadelian host nearest to him. He noticed her limping before, so decided to go over to her.

Eventually making it near her, he flopped onto the ground, leaning against a tree. Of course, 450 lbs doesn’t fall to the ground without a sound, so he may have even woken the sleeping girl up by just sitting down. “Excuse me.” he cleared his throat before going on. “Miss, excuse me. I saw you limping before, and there seems to be some blood on your armor. It’s dried, but not old enough to have been from a past wound. Maybe you should get it checked out by one of the others. I saw the Sorian guardian help the Pyrian guardian earlier. I actually saw the Pyrian guardian going through her sack, which looked like medical supplies as well. I could be wrong, but I would think that at least one of them could help you. I doubt the old hosts wouldn’t have retrieved a medic to go along with us.”

Shadowmere waited for Jet to grab ahold, before leading him to the nearest person. Well maybe he wasn’t the nearest, but Shadowmere did love things with wings. She often chased Birds around, hopefully she would treat Ven differently. Jet couldn’t really make out what people were saying around him, which was more due to the fact of he was panicking a bit on the inside then anything else. As Shadowmere stopped, Jet spoke out. “Oi, someone there? Seems my eyes don’t wanna be workin’ ‘ight now so I could be usin’ a hand.”

----------

Zet smiled at Kassidy a bit. There was that mystery about her now, so obviously he just had to ask. “Well I won’t force you into anything, but I would like to know, Miss Anasiti. After all, being a guardian I’d like to know what exactly I’m in for.” He said in a more teasing manner, trying to maybe get her to open up about it. Zet knew they had to leave soon in order to make it to town by dark, but why sit there alone, when he could get to know her a bit more, right?

Monroe sat still in his meditation. In fact he was so still, if not for the small movements of his chest from breathing, it wouldn't have been out of the question to wonder if he had died right there. As Arienna began to apologize however, he broke his meditation and just looked up at her. "Do not think another thing of it. It is frustrating times that have fallen upon us, these gems not helping the situation either. I never was one that knew when advice was unwarranted. In the future I will try to hold it back, unless you come looking for it. I cannot say I won't offer it again by mistake, but I will try."

Monroe didn't want to piss any of them off, yet his advice did have that effect more often then he'd like to admit. He did notice the way some were moving through the area. It seemed like they should get moving soon. That meant time to try and get up. Monroe closed his eyes, focusing on lifting his limbs, one at a time. After a while he got one arm up and leaned it on the nearest tree. He'd use that to get the rest of his body up and moving.

----------

Scarlet followed Arienna, though she was still having difficulty standing, let alone walking after her without zigzagging everywhere. She smiled when Ari apologized, although she still knew that it wasn't exactly genuine. Baby steps though. She didn't expect Ari to change because of a ten minute conversation after all. When Ari finally looked at her, Scarlet gave a reassuring smile and a small nod. She apologized, so they didn't have to stay there anymore. "We'll leave you alone now." Scarlet said, peeking out from behind Ari, and grabbing onto her arm. She made it seem like she was starting to pull her away, or at least tried to make it seem like that. In reality she was using Ari to balance herself and stay standing. This walk was going to be more difficult then she thought.

----------

Zet did want to know what she meant, but he wouldn't push the issue. After all, that's what he got upset about more or less. As she started walking off, to only realize she had no idea where she was going, he just laughed a bit and sighed to himself. She did seem like she was going to be trouble, but a trouble he didn't mind at all. "Why don't you hold your horses and let me lead once everyone is ready? After all we wouldn't want to be split into groups and get attacked by Bandits, Bears, or any other animals in the woods, would we?" he walked over to Kass pulling her away from the forest a bit, and rubbing his hand on her arm, trying to warm her up a bit, though he doubted it helped. "We'll get there soon enough, okay?"

----------

Jet nodded as Ven made sure he was the light host. His next question was an odd one, but Jet didn't mind if the young girl rode on Shadowmere. "I'm sure Shadowmere won't mind, will ye girl?" Shadowmere purred a bit, which meant she didn't. Jet then nodded to Ven (even though he was facing the woods), although in reality he didn't know who the hell he was even talking too. "Umm... Don't think me rude or nothin' but who are ye? I don't be knowing voices yet, and lack of vision really dampens me ability to tell one from another. Oh and I can be fightin' without me eyes just fine.... At least if I was alone. Blind doesn't 'xactly let me tell friend from foe though."

You wouldn’t be able to believe how relieved Scarlet was as Ari put her arm around her to balance her. She tried not to show it much though. As soon as they were away from the others and Ari asked if the Gem was still plaguing her Scarlet just smiled putting on a brave face. “The what? Oh that silly old thing? No way, I got over that ages ago. I feel fit as a fiddle now. Like I could take on Rune’s army by myself!” Of course as she finished her statement she immediately pulled away from Arienna to go throw up in a nearby bush. After she was finished, she stumbled back over and leaned on Ari once more. “Okay... maybe a little....”

----------

Zet could only shake his head at Kass’ story about the bears. It was a little amusing to be perfectly honest. When he hard her start sniffling though, he turned around to look at her. She was crying... instantly he felt guilty about it. “Don’t cry Kass, I don’t mean any offense to you by pulling you away from the woods. I just don’t want you to get hurt... Not that I couldn’t protect you from everything in there, because I can. Or maybe I hurt you pulling you away too hard... I’m sorry, please don’t cry...”

----------

Jet held Shadowmere showing her that it was okay as Ven loaded Nadanna onto her back. It was by far from the heaviest load she’d ever held before. “Oi, inventer ye say? Well that be soundin’ like somethin’ I don’t know ‘bout. Shadowmere ‘ere normally could be of help in guiding me, but she’s kind of preoccupied now.” He reached out and grabbed onto Ven’s wing, glad he remembered names well enough with the brief experience they had earlier. “I hope ye don’t mind if I just hold onto yer wing to follow ye.”

Scarlet tried to smile coyly, but Ari was correct. Still, she didn’t like worrying anyone. “I’m sorry... I just... I don’t want people to think I’m weak... Especially after the shit that ass hole said back in the cave. Insulting me... The gem picked me, so obviously it has better taste then him...” She leaned on Arienna, and crossed her arms in a childish manner. As Ari held out the water, Scar took it, and reluctantly drank a bit. After throwing up so much, she was weary and not wanting anything in her anymore, but Ari was right, so she trusted her judgment. Handing the water back to Ari, she smiled a little. “Thank you for the water... I’m alright, I think. I just may need to lean on you for a while... if that’s okay?”

----------

Zet froze as she started talking. He honestly wasn’t ready for that at all. What should he say?.... What could he say?.... Guess he’d just have to wing it. “Things happen Kass... Don’t blame yourself. You said it was a hunter that killed it, well what exactly do you think that hunter was out there for? What exactly do you think the bears do for food? It’s basic instinct to kill. To survive... it’s almost a necessity. Kill or be killed. Kill to eat. Kill to protect your loved ones. Kill to protect your people. People... Animals... No matter what race or species, we all kill something. Weather it’s plants, or other creatures, we all kill for our own purposes. Parents lose their children, children lose their parents or their siblings, it’s life. Wipe your tears.” Zet walked over to her, and removed her hands from her eyes, wiping her eyes with his own two hands. “We’re at war Kassidy. We have to kill, or we’ll all die ourselves. If we die, so does the rest of Elenia. It’s the lesser of two evils... Survival of the fittest. You’re a kind and gentle spirit, however you can’t go on and feel bad for everyone we have to kill. If we do our jobs right, then we’ll have to kill many. Otherwise the people that can’t fight for themselves will suffer. Eleina will burn at the hands of Rune’s army. People, animals, all united in one giant massacre. No body wins then, and everyone loses people they love. So dry your tears, for we all need to be tough. For the sake of Elenia.”

Zet looked up at the sky and then back at Kass, before she even could respond. “Hang on a minute, we can continue this as we walk.” Zet stood up, on the elevated hill nearby, and called out to the group. “Everyone we can afford no more time for rest. I can make it to the town in 4 hours by myself, however with the current situation we’re in, we’d be lucky to make it in 7-8. Sundown is in 6 hours. We have to move now, so everyone please follow me. I’ll only walk at a pace that everyone can keep up with.”

----------

Jet felt a little bad as Ven seemed to have such a negative reaction to him touching his wing. How would he have possibly known though? After all, the other race’s reaction to things weren’t exactly a common thing studied. They had their own lands for a reason. “Me apologies boyo. Yer shoulder will be fine. I suppose we will be a unit like a family. I don’t be havin’ a family meself, so it may be nice. Sounds like we all be needing to get movin’ though, so lead the way. Shadowmere will follow close, and I’ll be holdin’ on to ye.”

-------------------------

About 3 hours later they all continued on. They had made it almost half way. They’d make it to the town a little after dark at this rate, providing they kept the same pace. Something that seemed more difficult for some then others. Scarlet was still on her own two feet, but without Arienna to lean on, wouldn’t be moving at all. Monroe, though he didn’t show it, was having great difficulty moving forwards. There wasn’t much he couldn’t lift usually, and having his own limbs now being one of them, was quite the difficult task. Jet was moving along fine, holding onto Ven’s shoulder the whole time. Zet, still leading the group, hated moving so slow. Of course at least making sure Kass was okay, made it more tolerable.

Ven sat with his back to the wall, his shoulders hunched and his head staring down at a piece of paper and a few components of random stuff. The tavern was basically empty at this point in time, giving him the perfect work space. He wondered why more people didn’t get up this early
oh well. He hadn’t seen anyone else that morning, though he supposed he could have just missed them. He wasn’t exactly at his most attentive.

Zet had been awake for an hour or so, after all he always did wake up at the crack of dawn, providing he slept at all of course. There were things in his past that haunted him sometimes, things that he rarely ever talked about. Things that would sometimes keep him awake, though his training made up for the lack of sleep. The past hour or so, Zet was walking around the town. He’d been here once before, but the Krovi’s came here much more often. They weren’t seen of as a threat here, being a very well guarded town, as well as many years of dealings with the Krovi’s and seeing no ill will towards the town. Zet felt like he could belong here, which was odd for him. Rarely did he feel that way; however how he felt it was of little importance looking at the grand scheme of things.

Zet entered the Tavern, after all it was where they’d agreed to meet the next day. When he entered and saw the nearly empty place, he noticed the Sorian Guardian doing
something. Surprised to see anyone up at this hour, he walked over to him. Better then sitting alone, right? “Umm
Ven, right? You’re up earlier then I would have expected. What is it you’re working on, if you don’t mind me asking?”

Ven didn’t notice Zet walk into the tavern until he spoke, and even then he didn’t attract Ven’s attention until called by name. He looked up, puzzled, wondering who could be up this early and who would be talking to him by name. Ah, yes, the hooded man. What was his name
Zet? Yes, that sounded right, “It’s quiet early in the morning. Easier to work. As for what I am working on, the wind host is sensitive to sound. I agreed to attempt at making something to help him cope with this side effect.” This was a bit of a lie; he hadn’t necessarily asked him to do it. He pretty much volunteered to do it after he realized he was sound sensitive. After all, those wads of paper he’d given him were primitive and worked, but they didn’t do a great job, “What about you? Why are you up so early, Mr. Zet?”

Zet listened to Ven, just crossing his arms as he did so. Sometimes this helped Zet think. It’s more of a natural reflex that he just did, then actually helping him think though obviously. “I see. Well I suppose a more quiet and uncrowded work place would be more efficient. Sounds like you are pretty handy with these kind of things. I’m more geared for battle myself. Trained for survival in the most harsh of conditions, yet ask me to do something like that and I’m not sure I could do much more then cotton or some kind of cloth earplug. I suppose the old gem hosts knew what they were doing when they picked us.” Zet sat down at Ven’s table, invited or not. Cracking his neck, while still keeping up his hood of course he just laughed a bit. “Mr. Zet? Just Zet is fine, really. I’m always up at this time. I’ve just been walking around town though. Gotta admire such a self sufficient place.”

Ven nodded, his concentration split between what he was doing and Zet, “Indeed. While it lacks the grandeur of the Sorian cities, it’s mere front gates are probably more practical.” It was more than obvious in Ven’s tone that he had no love for the Sorian cities, but he didn’t continue, “As for this, it’s just something I’m good at. Been doing it since I was a kid, never really stopped. My father wanted me to join the priesthood, and to squelch my talent. No thanks. I’d rather roam and tinker than stand at the front of a church and talk to a crowd. Never was good at that. Never really tried. Didn’t like it.”

Zet listened and smiled a bit. “Well seems to me you made the right choice. After all, I don’t see a man of the church among us do you? Can’t see how much use a preacher would be on the battlefield; while we’re in all out war. Helpful things though, well those will be umm, helpful. Of course we are up against the power of a full scale army, and we don’t even have the power of the gems to back us up personally, so if we all end up dead on the battlefield then maybe you did make the wrong choice after all. Either way though, it’s the adventure of a lifetime, and if I die fighting, so be it.”

“You’re a bit of a pessimist, aren’t you?” Ven replied simply, holding a component up to the light before fitting it into its place, “Ha! Finished. This’ll help him no matter what stage of his gem sickness he’s at.” He’d coined the term as they realized that the gem’s side effects wore off over time, “It has an adjustable knob here, that uh
well, you know what, you probably don’t care.” Ven pulled back his coat, showing a collection of glass bottles, one of which was missing. It was the bottle he had thrown the previous day in the fight that had caused the explosion. He pushed the earplugs into one of his many pockets and reminded himself to give it to Edwards later.

Zet just snickered as Ven spoke. It wasn’t that he was funny, it was just different from what Zet was used to. “Pessimist? I’d more say I’m a realist. No use calling your shit green on the off chance you ate too many vegetables, or whatever it is that makes your shit green. My point is, no use on painting this situation great, with the odds so highly stacked against us. Do we stand a chance, depends on if the Gem hosts live up to the legend. If we do die though, we’ll have one hell of a time doing it.” Zet did frown a bit as Ven said he probably didn’t care. “Hey now, don’t go assuming I don’t care just because I can’t make it myself. I’m interested in what you can do, and wondering how it can be applied to my own personal talents.”

It was Ven’s turn to laugh a little, “I’m just surprised that you’d want to know the technical aspect of my work. Most people just want to know that it does work, not how it works.” He said, pointing to the drawing, “That knob controls the amount of air that can get into the ear. The more air, the more sound, obviously. It’s a fairly simply design, it was just finding the pieces that was difficult.” He said, crumpling the paper up before burning it in a nearby candle, “It’s always such a shame to have to do that
but some people will steal anything that isn’t nailed down, right? As for us winning this fight, I figure spooky ghosty gem soul things wouldn’t send us on a quest like this if they didn’t think we would win. I mean, sure, the odds are a little stacked, but it isn’t like we’re supposed to take on the entire army by ourselves, at once.”

Zet listened to what Ven had to say, and it was interesting.  Zet thought that he got the jist of it at least, although if anyone asked him to replicate even something similar, they’d get cotton or cloth to shove in their ears.  “I usually like to know how things I’m around work, at least somewhat.  After all , I’d like to know if something has the chance to blow up, or the capabilities to bring harm to anything or anyone. Not that I think your gadget would fall into either of those categories
It’s more a force of habit. My apologies if I offended.”

Zet watched on as Ven burned the designs of the gadget he made. It was a shame as he said, especially because without it written down, he can’t even pass the knowledge down to an apprentice in the future, or even have the basic drawing to make enhancements too. It was Ven’s business though, and Zet wasn’t about to try and talk him out of doing what he thought was correct. “Hmm
Taking on the whole army by ourselves or not, it’s still a tough mission. The Gem Spirits may have picked us well, and may even have picked the most capable of wielding their power, but no matter what anyone does, the will and drive of each individual just can’t be foreseen.  If even one of the hosts don’t live up to expectations, or we fail and let them fall in combat, I fear that the mission is lost and we won’t stand a chance.”

Ven nodded, putting his hand to his chin before shrugging, “Then we don’t. I don’t see much margin for choice, really. It’s as simple as we don’t let them fall in battle.” He said, before sitting back a little, putting his boots up on the table, “As for interest, hell, I’d be happy to share or talk about anything I make with just about anyone. Usually people simply aren’t interested. I find it interesting that someone in your line of work specifically would take interest in it. No offense intended, of course, I just don’t see a lot of assassins or mercenaries interested in machines
then again, I don’t see a lot of assassins, period, so I suppose that could be part of the problem
” he put his hand to his chin for a moment, as if to think, but then shook his head, “But I digress.”

Zet began to laugh a bit. “Well if you did see many assassins, then they wouldn’t be very good assassins, would they? I guess it’s as simple as not letting them fall, eh? I suppose I can’t argue with that.” He thought for a few minutes on why he was so interested. “I’m not a typical assassin. I only kill the wicked, requiring proof before each job. However, I’m very good at what I do. Part of that is because of my abilities and training but another part is because I’m quick to think on my feet. I guess I’m just interested in this stuff so it can benefit us in the future. Also, you never know when the smallest detail about something can be applicable to something else. It’s good for determining strengths, weaknesses, stuff like that... Guess my mind is a bit weird...”

Ven shrugged, “No, it makes perfect sense to me. But then again, I've always been called weird too.” He paused for a minute, shrugging again, “What do you think of our little rag tag group? If you look at strengths and weaknesses and all that, what do you see in our little team?” Ven asked, genuinely interested. Zet hadn't gotten to see them all in the bandit fight yesterday, but initial impressions could be important. He didn't know, but if he could be of any help, he'd make sure he knew about it before he was truly needed.

Zet sighed. In truth he wasn’t all that sure how his impressions on everyone was. “Scarlet and Kassidy don’t seem to be much of an asset on the battlefield yet. I have no doubt after some training, both physically and mentally, that they can be the legendary warriors they’re supposed to be, but they need work. A few of the Gem hosts seem competent and quite skilled, such as Jet and Arienna, but with how volatile the gems have been already, I don’t think we can afford to rely on those fighters yet. Then there’s others that are a complete mystery, like Edwards. While it’s rough to gauge his competence in battle, being a gem host it’s still difficult to rely on them either. That leaves us Guardians. I’m a trained killer, but Stealth is more my specialty. Not that I can’t hold my own in a group fight, it’s just not what I’m used too. Nadanna I’ve yet to see fight, but a Combat Medic for the Pyrian has to be able to hold her own out there. After all, they’re the ones holding the Shadelians back at this point. Not to seem rude to you, but I’m not really sure how or if you can hold your own well enough in a fight either. Inventors usually stray away from combat training and such, don’t they? Then again, I’ve never met many inventors either.”

Ven laughed a little at Zet's closing statements, “Don't underestimate me yet, my friend. Let me show you something.” Ven reached into his duster and pulled out a little glass bottle, roughly the size of an ink well, with glass just as thick, “These are concoctions of my own inventing. Come on, I'll show you what they do.” He said, getting up and stretching, before looking to the door, “The bottles are harder to come by than the chemicals in them, funny enough, but they aren't much of a hassle. Your simple apothecary generally carries everything I need. Sometimes I need to hit up an alchemist, but other than that, I can mostly home brew this stuff.” Once they were out of the town and a little ways into the forest, Ven bounced the little bottle in his hand. After a moment of contemplation, he cranked back and threw the bottle at a rock. The glass shattered and a shimmer green liquid splashed on a rock, dribbling down the sides and making hissing noises as the acid ate away at the rock, “That's just one of my little toys.”

Zet followed Ven out to the woods. He listened to what he said, and watched what he did. While the strategy seemed viable, it wasn’t very practical. The bottles were thick, there’s a chance it wouldn’t break if hitting flesh. Then even if it melted armor, without some kind of weapon, he wouldn’t be that much use either. “Your toys as you put it, are interesting. I still think we should train you with some kind of weapon though. It can’t hurt to have a bit of a backup, in case your toys don’t work too well for some reason. Not that I doubt the abilities of them, I just like to have a backup.”

Ven frowned a little. Zet was right, he knew he was right, but he still didn't like the thought. Sorians weren't exactly famous close quarters fighters, and it wasn't because they weren't strong enough. Even the slightest injury to the wing was excruciating. He sighed a bit, “I really would like to stay away from my enemies. I've tried something like a bow before, but...I just don't have the dexterity for it. Not in a stressful situation, anyway.” Truth was the best policy, wasn't it? He hoped so. After a moment, he smiled at Zet again, “Anyway, that's all I really had to show you. The other ones are a quick freeze solution, a extremely flammable one, and one that causes more of eh...you know...boom. Unfortunately, the ingredients for those are slightly harder to come by, and I couldn't find enough to distill anything worth using.”

Zet shrugged a bit. He didn’t really get all these chemical mixtures and stuff, although they sounded effective. “Sounds like you need to try something like a crossbow, or maybe throwing knives. Of course you could always invent something that could allow you to fight as well. I mean, a weapon doesn’t need to be conventional to be effective, and we are far from conventional. Who knows, maybe you’ll turn the tides of future warfare.” Zet smiled a little and started to walk back towards town. “Come on, I’m sure we’ll find some way for you to have a backup strategy.”

“Crossbow sounds good, I guess. That's basically just point and pull the trigger, right?” Egh...arrows. The bane of pretty much anything with wings. You could never put too much distance between yourself and an arrow, “Alright. So, hey, I have to ask. What exactly is our plan here? I mean, where do we even head? We can't just waltz into Zevlya, we'd need a huge army, right? So...what?”

“More or less. I’ve never been too good at crossbows or bows, but I’m sure we can find someone somewhere to show you the ropes.” Zet sighed as Ven asked what the plan was. To be honest, he only really had one general plan, and it was quite flawed. After all, they were a mix-match of misfits, and they needed an army. Things wouldn’t be easy at all. “Honestly, it only seems like one plan to me. The Gem hosts are supposed to be the group that all races can rally behind, to defeat this evil. So the plan, travel to each kingdom, visit their respective rulers, and do what we can to get their military support. They can provide us an army that we can lead to victory. Without them though, I don’t see a way we can win.”

Ven nodded a little, “Huh...I guess it makes as much sense as anything else. It's not much, but at least it's a plan. So we're heading for this capitol first then. You ever been there before? I mean, you're a Lethalian and all, right? Plus, I imagine you get around with your kind of job.” He was wondering if their little rag tag batch of heroes could even pull something like this off. After all, they'd barely managed to fight off a few bandits only yesterday. What chance did they have against trained soldiers? He sighed and ran his hand through his hair, “Even with an army, do you really think we can do this? I mean...no offense at all to them or anything, but some of the hosts...they don't exactly seem like mythical warrior material or anything, you get what I mean?”

Zet stopped, sighed, and leaned on the nearest tree. “Krovi’s aren’t exactly welcome at the capitol. A clan that’s said to be made of murderous traitors, I guess using that logic I can’t blame them for not wanting one near their king. I’ll be lucky if I make it through the gate with you all. I’ll probably be attacked, locked up, just plain thrown out if I’m lucky. I don’t see much of a better plan though.” Zet wished that he was exaggerating, but unfortunately he wasn’t. Especially in the Lethlian kingdom, Krovi’s were quite hated. Even as a child, they are branded as traitors, as if just having Krovi blood made you willing to kill anyone in sight to fulfill one task. “Honestly, I don’t know. If they can harness their power, and become the heroes of legend, it’s possible. Unfortunately there’s always that chance that no matter how hard we try, we’ll be annihilated. If we do get an army, and no matter how hard we fight, we all die, then Elenia as we know it dies. It’s on us, or we’ll all die. Unfortunately, that’s the cold, hard, truth. Doesn’t really matter if they seem like it now or not. If they don’t live up to the standards set by legend, we’re all dead.”

“Yeah...I guess so...kinda dismal when you really think about it, huh?” He asked, crossing his arms and shaking his head. Everything and everyone depended on them. Finally, he stood straight up and sighed, “Alright, so that's the long term plan. Traipsing through the hills and forests like a merry band of heroes. But what about now. What's our plan for now? You're the only one who seems to know this area by any means, when do you think we ought to leave? Soon as possible, or wait a few days? We don't have nearly the money to buy horses, so we're on foot. How much money do we even have, pooled together?”

“Dismal perhaps, but at least it’s a chance. Better then rolling over.” Zet thought to himself for a few moments. He hadn’t much time to think about things, but Ven raised some good points. “After getting everyone settled in last night I returned to the sites where we killed the bandits to take what they had. Their corpses had no more use for money. They had a decent amount on them, and coupled with what I normally carry it should last us for a week or so in this town. However, that leaves nothing for supplies. We can afford to stay here for about five days, with enough money for supplies to get to our next destination."

Zet cleared his throat and sat on a nearby rock. “About a three day walk away from here, we’ll come across the home of a wealthy noble that owes me a favor. I was about 13, out on a mission with my father and cousin, when I came across some bandits attacking a young woman. I killed the 2 eldest, which left the rest too young to fight back. Ironically, the Roland family, whom I had to finish off last night. Anyway, I returned the young lady home, who just happened to be the daughter of this noble. I guess she was about seven at the time, turns out she was kidnapped from her home. I came upon her trying to escape, naturally failing, and them teaching her a lesson for it so to speak. Long story short, they owe me a favor. They are honorable people, and I believe they will help us financially, being reimbursed by the Krovi’s once I send word. It should hopefully take care of things until we reach the capitol, in which hopefully the King will help us out. If things don’t go that way, we’ll have to improvise. Luckily the land here has streams and animals, allowing us to survive on the land if need be.”

Ven nodded, thinking himself. If they were going to be calling in favors and such, he knew a few people in the area around the capitol. Most only through mail, but he knew a few, “I have a few contacts all over the place. Some in Pyranous, some in Terramoure, some even in Yarevon. All over the place. I have clients everywhere, you wouldn't believe it, and suppliers. I think I can help with calling in favors if we ever need to. Gotta say, Zet, and maybe you aren't used to hearing it, but I'm actually glad we have you with us. We'd all kinda be lost as shit otherwise. Okay, so you can get us through Yarevon, I imagine Monroe can do Terramoure, Kassidy can get Aquaria, Nadanna or Scarlet can get Pyranous, I have Tyfonas, and Arienna can get Zevlya. Sounds easy enough.” He stopped a moment, thinking about something crucial, something that had been bothering him for a little while now, “How long do you think it's going to be before we start seeing other people aside from bandits and shit attacking us? You know...Rune's followers?”

Zet laughed a bit. Glad he was along? That was something he never got, but when you figure the only other Lethlian is currently blind from the Gem, it would make sense. Plus a traveling mercenary knew his way around pretty well. “I guess the Gems do know what they’re doing if they chose everyone to fit a current role. Still, a few more guardians wouldn’t have hurt, although then we’d have to shell out more money I guess. Keep all your contacts in mind, never know when we’re gonna need em.” When Ven asked how long until other people started attacking them, Zet just sighed. “I’d imagine we have until the capitol. After that, rumors will probably spread like wildfires, and we may start seeing enemies before we even make it to Terramoure.”

“Sounds like loads of fun, and I absolutely can't wait.” Ven replied sarcastically, shrugging a little. At least they had a rough plan. Something else was nagging at him too, but it wasn't quite as important. The question made him smile a little, “So, speaking of rumors spreading like wildfires...you ran off pretty quick after Kassidy yesterday. Anything going on there? You two were near inseparable the entire walk.” He asked, snickering a bit as he looked at Zet.

Zet looked at Ven and just shook his head. “She was curious about my family, and I got a bit harsh with her. I felt bad, we started talking, and I said I would protect her. After all, we can’t have a host die already, right? I knew we were being followed, I just didn’t want to cause a panic, not that it helped at all. There’s nothing more then a friendship there. There’s no time to even contemplate anything more. After all, I’m still far too young to think about binding myself down.”

“Binding yourself down, huh? Hey, I don't really think we're in any position to talk about being too young for anything. After all, we could die any day now if we fail. Anyway, I was just curious. I won't pry if you don't wanna talk. I'm not much of a pep-talker or anything, but if you ever just need to talk, I'm a great listener. Just so you know it's out there. After all, we're all friends here, right? Now come on, I don't like being out in these woods when we know bandits are lurking around. Besides, it's been about an hour or so since I woke up, the others are probably waking up too.”

“In Krovi culture, we generally don’t even start looking for a significant other, until at least 30, when we’ve proved ourselves as a serious mercenary or made a name for ourselves. I’ve not made a name for myself, nor am I near old enough to even start thinking of someone in that kind of capacity. I will keep in mind that you are a good listener however.” Zet got up and continued on the way back. “Don’t worry, most bandits aren’t bold enough to attack in the light, and those that are I could handle easily.”

Ven shrugged. As excited as he was to get more blood on his hands, he'd rather just head back to town. Once they reached the town's gates, Ven stopped and looked at Zet, “Alright. Well, I'm going to go and find some books, maybe a map or something and read up on things edible and not edible in the wild. After all, don't want anyone choking on poisonous berries or something stupid like that. It was good to talk to you, Zet, and I hope we can do it again in the future.”

As they reached the gate Zet just nodded to Ven. “That sounds like a plan. Oh and it was good to talk to you too. I may not socialize much, but if you need anything... well don’t be afraid to ask. I may be a Krovi, but I don’t bite.”
