Tattoos:
The tattoo was originally a design for Erik's ex-girlfriend and himself, a symbol of eternal love, so when they broke up, he didn't have the heart to get rid of it, ironically enough. It's on his chest, left side, above his heart.

Backstory:
Erik is not an extremely wealthy person. He was the youngest of four children (also the only boy) with two dysfunctional parents, living in a home suited for two. He knows what it's like to go without things, so when he decided to become a teacher, he scavenged the money for school and pushed until he landed a job. The staff was exceptional, and before long, he had settled into a rut. He went to work, came home, graded papers, went to work, came home. It wasn't until he met Abigail Rhodes that things changed for him. She was the definition of perfect for him. They enjoyed the same music, food, even had the same career, though she worked at a different school. They were the clingy couple that spent all of their time together, doing crazy reckless things and making memories. On Erik's twenty-fifth birthday, she told him that she needed space. He took this as meaning, "don't spend so much time with me, but I still love you." they'd had matching tattoos to prove it! But alas, her intentions were to break up with him to date his coworker, Harold, who personally, Erik found to be the most boring guy on earth. He couldn't stand the guy! The entire situation left Erik heartbroken and hateful. He couldn't even look at another girl without assuming that she'd break his heart too. His friends got sick of the crying and sob stories, so a year later with no change of scenery, they shipped him on the first boat to Cupid Island and made him swear he wouldn't leave until he was sure she was no longer on his mind.
