Description

“To infinity…AND BEYOND!”

Image

Name: Christopher Leung

Age: 29

Hometown/Homeplanet: Washington DC, Earth

Personality: Calm and collected, Leung is quick to give a plastic smile. Any time he appears depressed, aggravated, or satisfied, it’s most often a part of some trick or tactic to dominate or persuade. Having that total control is key to him, and being able to walk and talk his way through any situation makes him one of the top Retainers for Genetics. That said, if need be he’s plenty prepared at any moment to let brute strength solve the problems that dialogue cannot, but tends to be rather calm in retrospect.

Leung does still possess emotions like any other person, but tends to be in rather severe denial of the emotions he has. A fair example of this is his relationship with Zoara as her retainer/handler, which tends to bounce around between a friendly, business-like one and also one with a lot of tension over morals and ethics. There have also been moments where the two of them have shared hive-mind-like thoughts, literally thinking the same statements or strategies. It’s unsure whether their feelings platonic, romantic or just pure hatred.

This sort of uncertainty surrounds Leung, making him rather hard to read by others and even difficult to be sure of himself. He tells himself he’s fully aware of his motives and identity, but (like his emotions) he goes into denial of any accusations when he doesn’t. Altogether it makes him into one of the more dangerous and complicated members of the Conglomerate.

Mana-Drive: Physical - Namely it works as an upper-body strength enhancer, giving him the powers to lift and punch with much more power than normal. Alternately, he can use the drive to keep his hands for steadier for weapon aim and recoil-prevention.

Rank And Branch:Corporal of the Marine Branch

GEAR: "The Economist"

PiNG: A digital pocket watch.

Skills: Battlefield and combat tactics, fairly persuasive, and fast reaction time (in both conversations and fights).

Weapon: Plasma Pistol

Bio: Leung was the child of two politicians on Earth, his mother specializing in economics and his father in the military. Finding the new advance in technology and territory interesting and in hopes of pleasing his father, he chose to enroll in the military academy as soon as he could, with the hopes of reaching a level of command early as he could. For the most part, he managed to pull off fairly good grades, but was especially talented in his lessons of combat tactics and weapon use. By the time he graduated, he managed to be persuasive enough with most of the academy’s authority figures to be promoted faster than nearly any other graduate of the academy, reaching the rank of corporal within 3 years of graduating.

After that his career came to a standstill but he was given more faith and duties from higher up. He was never put in charge of his own ship (mostly due to Leung not being too interested or proficient in ship mechanics), but was often placed in other missions as the main advisor and commander, frequently working in the management of GC Genetics. His position managed to be enjoyable enough for him to feel plenty satisfied.

His current, and longest standing assignment came along about three years before the events of the Celebration, when a Genetic by the name of Zoara Britanov became the head of the main branch of the GEAR division on Venus. The military, feeling concerned about having a powerful Genetic in charge of something so valuable (and the fact that she had come to the attention of a large group of anti-Genetic extremists), resulted in Leung assigned to be her retainer; a sort of handler that would make sure that she would stay both in-line with the military’s demands and safe from any threats that are posed to her based on her biology.

While this seemed like a fairly dull position, it proved become fairly interesting once it began. He found that planning and maintaining security for the Genetic proved a good exercise in his skills in tactics, and Zoara herself was a fine person to work with (though he often needed to keep her vocal sense of religion in check). Once the PiNG was released and even more attention was gained, more stress and threats have come along, a number of times with Leung needing to take action, but nothing has yet to arrive that Leung has felt he couldn’t handle. With Zoara’s high stance in the technology world, he’s currently escorting her to the 60th Celebration, with the main goal to keep her from pissing off the Conglomerate or any anti-genetic groups.

So begins...

“Head up, straighten your back,” Leung said to Zoara through the white teeth of his public smile, “And please quit dragging your feet,” he added, directly into her ear. They’d spent a week on Earth, working hard in the hotel to make her seem presentable to the public and his peers, and he didn’t want the little things killing the appearance and status he’d made for himself. He was better than that, and the countless amount of time he’d spent being Zoara’s handler couldn’t just go to waste.

Once the titanic line to get into the magnificent main hall stopped again, he turned to look at the busy surroundings. His first glance, as always, went to the security teams, scattered around each of the doors and windows. Each was plenty armoured and very well-armed, each sporting varieties of pistols and a rifle-sized weapons, wearing agile formal attire over heavier pieces underneath. A few of the guards on the middle balconies were quite visually slacking off, but the intensity in the stance of both standard Conglomerate soldiers and Genetic Protection units sufficed. A lot more important people were here than could count, and though it wasn’t the highest risk event it was comforting to see this level of preparation.

Unrelated to the men and women visually wielding weapons, more preparation was spread across the décor. He straightened his tie for about the third time since he walked into the crowd of tightly-dressed guests, keeping his eyes out for a number of people. Conglomerate officials to impress, friends he could make for the sake of supplies and emergency connections, and equal to those his own parents, who were high enough in the political system of Earth that showing up at this celebration wasn’t an option. He still hadn’t seen them since his graduation from the Conglomerate Academy, and while he’d sent words to them often, he wanted a few more words besides their hastily-written replies and congratulations.

He jolted his head and tried to stop looking. He knew he’d find them eventually once he and Zoara had gotten inside. Instead, he went through his own habits to fix up his suit. Finishing with his tie, he moved to making sure his pressed white dress shirt was tucked in his fully into his crisp black pants, straightening and tightening his leather belt, and dusting off the shoulders of his blazer. He didn’t expect anything to be out of order since he’d left the hotel not too long ago, but this was still a fairly valuable moment to him. Besides, he needed to be prepared with his own appearance and attitude before spending the majority of the current evening making sure his Genetic would be able to act just as well as himself -- as fleeting a hope as that was for him.

"I'm doing just that Christopher," Zoara chimed back as she adjusted her gown for probably the thousandth time, not bothering for formalities around her handler. Normally his remarks of indignation would've brought about frustration on her part about how she was doing nothing wrong but today she was in a good mood. This was the first time she'd gotten to see the outside of the Hotel for more than an hour at a time and she was using the moment to admire the landscape since she hadn't been here since a few years prior when she went to present her findings on the PiNG with her colleagues to the conglomerate. Smiling softly at the whir of machines in the crowd she knew that there were more than a few present at the moment too.

Readjusting her gold chiffon gown and standing up a little taller she made sure that there was no other reasons for Christopher to complain. Dress, jewellery, hair, they'd all been carefully picked out for her this evening and she thanked the Goddess that no one had made her cover her tattoos with concealer lest she anger anyone with her beliefs. Sighing she realized just how important this event was to her well being. Take the pet out, parade it around and show everyone just how special it is then put it back where it belongs. She didn't mean to sound cynical about it but that's just what the routine had turned into. Even most of her work was brought to the base so this was one of the few moments she had outside. It wasn't proper for her to think so negatively though, this was the path the Goddess had chosen for her and she had to follow it, and because of that, she was going to enjoy this event as much as she could.

Shifting slightly from foot to foot in her heels Zoara examined the floating lanterns that were visible from where she was in line, it was things like this that she missed. Perhaps if she decorated her room with something like that she could make it feel a little more homey, on the other hand she knew how the GC had just felt about her having an small altar in her room so she decided to think against it.

Tilting her head as continued to stand in line she caught Christopher scanning the crowd closely, he seemed to be looking for someone or something, maybe security? No, Goddess knows how many of those were around in the area. Maybe some sort of official? Feeling the curiosity knawing away at her she knew she just had to ask. Tapping him on the shoulder to get his attention she gave a small plying smile, "Are you looking for someone?" She asked.

"Are you looking for someone?" Zoara asked. Leung thought himself to have been a bit more subtle about his browsing, but (as it often happened) Zoara was able to pick up on his actions a little more quickly than he’d hoped. While there was a lot in his task list between impressing his parents and superiors and keeping Zoara in safe and presentable condition, Leung saw her curiosity as yet another chance to play at their ongoing trust game and win a few more points of her control.

“My parents, they’re high-ranking political and military members,” he said truthfully, giving out the facts and keeping his true intents, “High enough that they should be here, at least.” Since he’d been working with Zoara, he tended to keep his history pretty deep in the background. He enjoyed Zoara and her company, for the most part, but that type of information is nothing short of a weakness and a weapon when others have their hands on it. At the same time, his job as her retainer required him to be a bit more cautious and aware of when she could have an advantage over him. In the three years he’d been working with her, she’d yet to get her hands on any severe information.

Stuck in line and not seeing anyone of interest, Leung continued to let his eyes wander. He looked up towards the top of the tower, a place of a different sort of importance that he’d heard about from other soldiers and military officials; the pirate Solo’s trial. As important and enjoyable as it was to be attending the celebration at hand, he would’ve much preferred seeing such a criminal brought to justice for his crimes. More so he would’ve preferred taking part in bringing the man down. Unfortunately, even if he was asked to participate in the trial, he was chained to a separate task; escorting and protecting this Genetic scientist at a soirée.

However, that mediocre task had to be done, so Leung did what he could to suck it up. He couldn’t even mention where he wanted to be to Zoara, who he would expect to be upset to hear that another Genetic would likely be sent to his death soon, even if it was a pirate. All that was left to do was wait out this boring albeit opportunistic shindig.

Zoara raised her eyebrows at Christophers statement, it was a rare thing to catch a glimpse of his private life. It'd been three years since the two had been put together and she knew little to nothing about who he was. Of course she knew the basic things about him, mannerisms, daily routines, the way he took his coffee, but nothing of where he had come from, it was as if the man had one day just materialized at the Conglomerates Research Branch with no previous history other than the fact he was supposed to look after her. That was how things worked though, so she tried to keep track of the fleeting glimpses that she had gotten as to who he really was.

"Hmm," she said pondering this new revelation, "Do you see them often?" She wasn't sure wether Christopher had regular contact with his family but she felt like running with this new found secret and seeing how far it would lead her into a least one aspect of his life. Considering she hadn't seen hers in over ten years the thought of family was a source of great interest to her, and she took the the liberty of asking anyone she spent enough time with what theirs was like and if they enjoyed it. It wasn't in a sense of jealousy but more in curiosity that she liked to find out these things. Zoara had long since gotten over any feelings of abandonment or loneliness that she harboured towards her family when she had left for the GC, she liked to think the fact that she could barely remember their faces helped. It was a strange thing to think though that those faceless figures had shaped so much of who she was today and it gave her a small small pang of sadness in the middle of her chest to know that they were gone forever. The Conglomerate frowned upon any communication with branded Genetics.

Staring up at the Tower in front of her she unconsciously traced the tattoos on her face in thought. There wasn't any use in being sad like this, she had promised her family that she wouldn't be. She had promised them that instead she would follow the path the Goddess had given her and work as hard as she could to understand why she was there instead.

Glancing back down at the curving lineup in front of her she tried to imagine how much longer it would be. They may have been near the front of the lineup but she was starting to need to use the washroom, and who knew how long it would take for security to pass them through. Frowning she decided to take matters into her own hands, "I need to use the washroom, I'll be right back, alright?" It wasn't as if she was in any sort of danger in the vicinity, the place was so heavily armed with guards it would take a full scale war to put her in any trouble. Slipping off before she could get an answer or be forbade from doing so from Christopher she spoke with the guards at the front of the building explaining her situation. It took a bit, but after showing her identification and getting the gist of who she was and more importantly who her handler was they let her through into the tower in search of a washroom.

Now where was that thing? Wandering aimlessly through the hall she speculated she'd find something sooner or later.

Leung felt fairly awkward just standing in line on his own like this. While it was a pain to be a watchdog over Zoara, simple wanderings and escapes from his sight weren’t ever uncommon. At this type of event, though, there wasn’t much to protect her from anyways. That said, Leung’s thoughts shifted into its often more irritated state as more time went on as more minutes than seemed regular passed, and still no return of her. People were starting to be let into the tower at last, so Leung pushed his way through the crowds to get in quick and find her before she’d wander too far.

Without taking a glance at the décor of the hall, Leung darted around the main floor. He only needed glances through each of the hallways, knowing she couldn’t have been hiding anywhere. Most likely she’d simply gotten lost, but for a Genetic in a big tower with this many armed guards, it could end up bad. Leung jumped up to the next floor and did the same thing, still finding nothing. It was on his way to the next staircase up that he first had run into anyone on the floor.

“Who are you, what’re you doing up here?” said the guard, as generically angrily as all grunts of the military were.

“I’m Christopher Leung, I’m a retainer for a Genetic,” he stated, taking out his military ID. Straightforward conversation was all he really needed with such a low-ranking soldier. “She wandered off somewhere up here, do you know if anyone might have seen her?”

“Actually, we have a Genetic in custody two floors up,” he replied, “Tattoos on her face, blonde hair, says she was looking for a bathroom?”

“Yes, that’s her” Leung sighed. He’d already identified her from the words in custody. It wasn’t unlike her to get in trouble with the people she least needed to be. After a slow and silent elevator ride, the guard walked him to the end of the hallway where Zoara was handcuffed to a chair, with two guards by her. He flashed the ID to the guards, explained she’d just gotten lost, and apologized to them before they unlocked the cuffs.

“Come on, let’s get you to a bathroom and get back to the banquet.”

The handcuffs were unpleasant for Zoara. What had happened back there anyways? Ugh, her head hurt. It was all a bit fuzzy but she remembered a man—possibly some type of body modder—confronting her when she went to find the bathroom. He must have been Military, he didn’t look like it but she had definitely sensed a PiNG on him. There was something else too… She had sensed not one GEARs but two coming from him. Rubbing her forehead she tried to make sense of it, the ping counted for one but where was the other one. Frowning she decided there were more urgent matters at hand. Like the fact she had never actually found the bathroom. She had told the Guards this but it didn’t seem like they were too quick to fill her request. What was going to happen to her anyways? Christopher was sure to come find her eventually if she disappeared for too long. It was times like this she was actually happy he was supposed to keep an eye on her.

“Thank Goddess he’s here…” She thought with a sigh of relief as she saw him making his way through the Guards. Rubbing the pink marks where her wrists had been handcuffed she got out of the chair and brushed herself off, giving a dignified cough. As happy as she was to be let out it was still quite embarrassing for her. This was just reinstating the fact that she needed to be looked after wasn’t it? “Thank you,” she said staring down at the floor as she followed after him.

Sitting down at the Banquet Hall Zoara was happy that all of that drama was over, she had finally found the washroom, been seated at her table and then had a nice meal. The food was nothing like it was back at the base and just getting to taste something besides the monthly rotating cafeteria menu made her happy. She didn’t get out often like this, of course it was happening more in the past few years but it still was a big thing to be able to. Looking up from her dessert she admired the people dancing in the center of the ballroom from the table that she sat at. She didn’t know the first thing about it yet she still somehow found it all quite magical, she had to wonder what it would be like to get to do these sorts of things on a regular basis. Looking over at Christopher she laughed, “I think this had turned out to be an alright evening,” she said

Leung just stayed strong and silent at the table, sitting next to Zoara as she had her conversation with Sarah. He worked hard to keep certain information away from Zoara, and certain details of this situation were an example. So yes, he did know that Sarah was likely lying to a certain extent about “tinkering” with the Living Weapon. It also happened to be far more irregular of a situation than usual thieves, seeing as this one had yet to be caught and chose to come back to one of the people working on it. She had to have legitimately wanted it gone if she was going to one of the very people who worked on it, especially in such a major public setting.

This was nothing short of a fool’s move on behalf of Sarah. Leung had every right and motive to detain the thief and bring her to the authorities. Those who steal from the military are quite instantly criminals of a high degree, and it wasn’t often that the bandits brave enough to try something so foolish would be brought to perfect justice. As a member of the military, it was his duty to solely try and take her down, but in the current situation he’d just as easily succeed.

At the same time, Leung couldn’t help but consider the possibility of some benefit in this. Sarah’s parents were heads of Venus’ Research and Development, where Zoara worked, and with a better connection made between them through their daughter could mean a lot; more control over the facility for himself and more freedom in work for Zoara. Of course, there was still also the capability of getting the stolen Living Weapon back, a good-looking accomplishment to have under his belt.

He quickly leaned turned directly towards the two, leaned to Zoara and whispered “Keep your mouth shut and let me handle this, this woman’s parents are your bosses.” He didn’t need her getting in the way of something with this much benefit, especially considering she could potentially get some of it as well.

“She’ll be plenty willing to help you,” Leung intervened, before Zoara could object, “But only if we can get fittingly compensated in return.”

“She’ll be plenty willing to help you, but only if we can get fittingly compensated in return.”

With a glare, Sarah turned to the man who so rudely injected himself into a conversation he wasn't involved in. Something about him rubbed Sarah the wrong way. Maybe the tie. She cleared her throat and turned to face him directly, keeping her suspicion out of her facial expression, instead giving the air of simply being offended.

"Excuse me, sir, but I don't believe you were consulted for this matter. This is a private discussion between myself and Dr. Britanov. Plus, I don't believe I could compensate you even had I the inclination, which I don't. I have no money of my own anymore, and all my connections have been silenced. I doubt Mother or Father would be delighted to know that some...person is trying to blackmail their cherished child..." Sarah stopped for a second, adopting a serious facial expression. This man could actually have some dirt on her, and it wouldn't do to alienate him entirely just yet.

Nodding slightly to herself, she resumed. "Actually, sir, I believe I may have spoken out of turn. I apologize. Maybe we could make a mutually beneficial arrangement. I will inform you in advance, however, that I cannot compensate you monetarily for some time, but I may be able to 'pull some strings' with Mother or Father. Provided, of course, that you tell me exactly your affiliation with Dr. Britanov and what aid you can offer me in return. 'Tit for tat' as the commoners say." Leaning back into her seat, Sarah continued to study the man as she chewed on her lower lip.

If he was a threat, she'd negate him one way or another. If he was an asset, she'd leverage him. Men were fickle creatures, and with the right carrot one can coax anything from them. If being a thief had taught her anything, it was to manipulate. Know when to fold and when to double down, as they say. If push came to shove, Murph could always turn someone into jelly anyways. Sometimes force can be more persuasive than the subtlest of arguments.

"Wait… I thought the Prototype was stolen…" Zoara thought to herself as a puzzled expression appeared on her face as she tried to rationalize the situation. Wait, it had fused to her? That and the involvement of an illegal Mana Drive operation was need enough to run away with something like that. It could get you killed by the Conglomerate, especially with how dangerous the bio-matter industry was known to be.

It seemed that Leung had caught onto the matter too. No doubt he was trying to to make a profit off of the situation. She wasn't comfortable with the idea of him hawking her out like this though, nor the morality of his bargaining. "Ssh, it's your job to make sure I'm safe, not mass market my abilities," Zoara whispered back. The posiblility of some sort of freedom was a tempting thought though. It was a strange thought to think that this woman was related to her bosses. Leaning back towards Sarah she smiled sheepishly, "I'm sorry about that, this is Colonel Leung, my retainer," She said looking between the two then back at the woman, "he doesn't mean any harm, he's just a little goal oriented."

Her smile continued turned to a look of concern. "It's a sad thing though that this has happened. I'm guessing you're not working with the project, are you? "Lowering her voice she leaned in slightly, "I'm guessing you are the one that they are blaming for the break in on the prototype." she said Smiling softly as she nodded her head, "I know it's not your fault though. I understand what it's like to be afraid of being prosecuted. I'm willing to help you." She had a weakness for the what she assumed were the unjustly accused, maybe this was why she had such a strong urge to help this young woman.

Eyeing the strap on Sarah's dress she figured this must be the fabled Living Weapon prototype. "well,I know there's a bit of the mechanics of a GEAR you have there but I'm going to have to do some research to come up with any definitive solutions since the bio-matter's a bit too far deviated from anything I can get a reading on. Would you be alright with visiting my Lab once we get back to Venus? I'm sure it wouldn't look to suspicious."

Taking the back seat of the conversation, Leung felt both frustrated and uncomfortable. He had this sort of feeling often when Zoara got talking about science, an area he didn’t have enough knowledge on to participate in well. There wasn’t any response he could make or any method he could use to intervene in this situation: all he could do was just sit there and focus on the logistical side of things. He always wished for some better skills and comfort in this situation, but for now there wasn’t anything he could do.

Both thankfully and unfortunately, the feelings were short-lived this time around, once Ad Infinitum started spawning their monsters. The best he could do to describe them were as beasts of tar and oil. Even without their attacks at the other guests, they were nothing short of horrific to see as they oozed out of the band’s instruments. To an extent, he did expect something threatening would come to this event, be it for Zoara, the politicians, or the trial in the top floor, but nobody could’ve expected something this strange.

As Sarah gunned off, Leung darted around to get a hold of the situation. The creatures coated the ballroom, the security officers were coming from everywhere, and the fighting against the creatures did not seem to be all too effective. Leung’s mission of the night was the safety of Zoara, and from his perspective it looked like the best way to accomplish it was to get out of the tower quick as possible, or at least find the safest place inside. The front door was out of the question as an exit, with the guards and creatures making it impossible to walk out without somebody getting hurt. Guards from the balconies and upper floors started pouring out from the staircase, bringing to mind that the upper floors were likely the emptiest part of the tower. For the sake of common sense, he pulled his plasma pistol out of his belt with his right hand, and dragged Zoara’s arm with his left.

With Zoara following behind, he walked around the ballroom to avoid any confrontation. If need be, he could’ve blasted any of the creatures’ eyes out, but any intentional confrontation seemed like a lost cause. He made it to the staircase at the end of the room, nudging around the armed guards into the empty hallways of the rest of the tower. Nothing appeared to be following them, but depending on how dangerous the creatures were they could’ve eventually. That said, Christopher couldn’t help but realize this was about the safest spot, with the wall of guard fodder keeping him aware of their location. If any other trouble came along, he knew he could just sprint off to a balcony or emergency exit straight ahead.

“We’ll wait it out here for now,” he stated to Zoara as he sat down. “It’s going to be okay, alright?” he said both to her and himself as he stared up at the expansive ceiling.

Zoara's mind raced with adrenaline as she was dragged up the flight of stairs. What was going on? It had all happened so fast. One moment she had been at the table having pleasant conversation and the next chaos had ensued. Those creatures definitely weren't anything the Conglomerate was expecting though. Her mother had told her of stories of monsters like these. They were definitely Genetic made… And by a powerful one at that. Why would anyone least of all someone of her kind want to do this? The thought made her stomach churn slightly. There were definitely going to be repercussions later for this, next thing you knew the whole press was going to call Genetics 'terrorists' and all of her and Leungs PR work would go down the drain. Sighing she decided she should at least be happy that the Global Conglomerate was adequately prepared for something like this, judging by the gunfire downstairs a small war was ensuing.

Turning to Leung she nodded her head in silence as she sat down next to him, "those things are not normal…" Zoara said quietly as she tried to catch her breath, "they were Genetic made. I'm not sure by who… But it has to be someone powerful. Who would do this though? It's not like-- Augh!" Placing her head in her hands she groaned slightly as a headache shot through her. What was going on? She felt horrible and nauseous. But she was also picking up on something not dissimilar to what had happened previously when she had gone to the bathroom. It was some type of GEAR.

"I don't feel so well," Zoara mumbled as she rubbed the side of her temples trying to ease away the headache, "there's--there's something strange I'm are picking up on." Whatever it was it wasn't like anything she had encountered before. Trying to keep a steady thought she gently tried to prod at the feeling and establish a telepathic connection with whatever she was feeling, "hello?" She called out in her mind, "can you please make yourself known? I would like to know what you are."

Leung and Zoara took their stop in the hall. With the hellish battle going on just a short distance away, Leung tried to collect himself. He'd seen a lot of strange and alien creatures in his time, but this was far stranger. Genetic conjurations, set to attack a large handful of politians, scientists, and militairy officials: he wasn't surprised by the attack as an action, but the form it took was far beyond his expectations. Leung needed the stop in the hallway more than ever, needing to reassess the situation at least a dozen times and knock out the questions in the back of his mind; "Who was behind this", "Why did they attack", and even once he had to wonder "How are so many people at a formal event were totally battle-ready?". He couldn't shake the thought that his parents were down there, even though he hadn't seen them since he'd gotten there. All of it was just a bit much to dwell on, and Leung needed to be objective about the situation again.

What first took away all of Leung's concentration was Zoara, who was trying to rub the headache out of her head and trying to focus on the "something strange" she'd said she picked up. It was good she was focusing on something besides the intense combat nearby, but if she kept on like this Leung figured she may forget the fact that they were still technically in danger. Without much thought, he just chose to grab her attention.

"Zoa-" he started, quickly getting interrupted by another guest, coming up to them from the same staircase. An alien, undoubtedly female, in a slightly-armored military outfit. Despite her running toward them with an old-fashioned sword in her hand, she didn't appear to be threatening. Nonetheless, Leung was adamant in not wanting to deal with anybody else in this situation. Considering the nature of the attack, he wanted to be as uninvolved as possible. Armed aliens like this long-eared one didn't exactly translate to that all too well, and it wasn't doing much for Leung's mood either.

"Do you need something?" Leung asked in an aggravated tone, as she came closer.

"Hello?" echoed a female voice, "Can you please make yourself known? I would like to know what you are."
"Yes! Please! Help me!" cried back Indigo, but his voice was lost to the abyss of his own head.

----

Zero chuckled. The woman was a technopath, that was certain. This could be interesting.

He quickly reasserted himself in the body. He had never had a small and nimble body before, with the GEAR body he previously possessed stood at around 20 meters tall and was extremely heavy.

"So, what do we have here?" he said casually, as if the chaos was outside a bubble. A creature dived towards him and, with the grace of a particularly large dancer, managed to divide the creature into many neat pieces before punching the eye with a hydraulic powered fist. He looked around, and there, in the distance, a mass of the seemingly self-duplicating creatures. Zero lowered his body and ran full speed straight towards them. As he got close be span and sliced at the writhing mass, revealing a heavily injured large bald man inside, possibly a senior officer of politician. Within an instant Zero reflected the direction of the scythe and swung back, and again. The man's expression was in mock horror has he, and the creatures, slowly slid apart into three neat pieces.

----

"ARE YOU INSANE!?" cried Indigo, helpless at what he just saw. "HE WAS ON OUR SIDE! HE WAS A GUEST!"
"He was an obstruction." calmly replied Zero with a voice almost sounding like an audiable smirk. "The sooner you realise the value of life the sooner you realise the solution to every problem." he chuckled.

----

Zero turned around. The place was a mess, genetics flinging debris, creatures seemingly duplicating and guests becoming an increasingly costly piece of art over the walls. "Beautiful" Zero said to nobody in particular, before walking to the stairs, his hydraulic systems creaking and the black nanobot coving absorbing any stray bullets or debris. The creatures ignored him, the guests were afraid of him and the soldiers were ordered not to interfere. He stopped around 200 meters, thought for a second, and then began running with his head lowered and his body forward.

Nearing the stairs he noticed a wall of three alien humanoids, the corpse of another nearby. They were shooting at the creatures but paused when they saw Zero charging towards them. They had little time to react as, by holding the scythe to the edge of his body, managed to cleanly bisect one of the Brin as he ran past. "Stop!" shouted another almost instantly and fired a shot him, barely missing. He turned round to the left to face them and, on the 'face' directly under the eye was a huge stylised side of a mouth in an upturned grin giving him an exceptionally creepy appearance.

The Brin had little time to react as within an instant two tendrils with small nasty hooks exploded from his back and plowed directly into the soldier, causing the other soldier to stumble backwards, almost falling down the stairs. It took only a second for the tendrils to tear apart the soldier. The remaining man was shivering, cowering near the bannister.

"Run" said Zero, calmly and slowly, retracting the tendrils. The soldier obeyed instantly.

----

"You... you MONSTER!" shouted Indigo to the void. "How could you do such things!?"
"I'm the monster?" Zero responded as if offended. "I didn't see you stop me from killing them..." echoed the cynical voice. Zero was clearly saying this out loud in the real world.
"How could I? I'm stuck in here!"
"You still could have tried! But now the soldiers have died." Zero responded, almost pitifully. "Their blood is on your hands, all because you never tried! Then again, you'd have failed either way... or could you succeed next time? Lets find out...", his voice becoming menacing at the last words.

----

Zero continued onwards into a smaller outlying hall. There was a small group of guests in here, including a child, their vision shielded from the battle and the sounds muffled. He strolled past calmly, then turned to face them, or, to be more precise, Zoara.

----

"DON'T!"

----

Zero continued onwards, keeping his head directly pointed to the group. The male jumped in front of her first, noticing the blood on him, then the Brin jumped in front of him while at the same time partially shielding the boy.

"Hellooo sweetheart." said Zero menacingly. Indigo noted that the voice sounded louder than usual, and that Zero probably thought those words too. His theory was confirmed when Zoara suddenly got another headache.

And then he turned back to the front and calmly strolled up the stairs, the tension lost.

----

"Oh, I'm not going to kill her. She's far too interesting... for the moment."

Feeling her message had been sent out Zoara looked up in surprise to find another woman had joined them. Who was she? Listening to her and Christopher’s conversation, she tilted her head to the side as she examined her. She explained she was one of the Brin attending the celebration, which wasn’t too surprising. How were they all going to get out of this mess? One of the bigger questions in her mind though was what was she sensing in the area.

Concluding that thought Zoara noticed that another person had joined their party only to collapse on the floor.  It was a young boy. Was he alright? It didn’t seem like it.  Frowning at the situation she decided that he must have became lost from the rest of his group. The whole thing tugged at her heartstrings a bit and she decided that he would have to be their responsibility now. Standing up to take a look at him she stepped forward, only to come face to face with an unknown entity.

The person in front of her was definitely akin to the man that she had run into earlier. Only something was off. He was covered all in black now, and watching as he continued to walk by she felt a chill run down her spine at the blood on him. "Hellooo sweetheart." Gasping at the headache she confirmed that it was indeed him who she had felt earlier. Just what was he? It was almost as if he himself was a GEAR. Disappearing, Zoara was left with more questions left unanswered. There was a more important situation at hand though.

"We really need to get out of here," she said to Christopher as she Kneeled down next to the collapsed boy, willing her headache to go away. If something like that blood covered man was in the building she'd sooner get out than stick around to see what happened. Feeling the boys pulse she decided that he seemed to be stable. "Hello?" she said staring down at him with concern, "if you can hear me, you need to get up, this place is in a lot of danger and you need to be awake."

There were a lot of things that Leung wanted to do right now. Moments ago, due to her oddly lengthy introduction, he mildly wanted to tell off the loud and stiff Brin Ambassador. More recently, he wanted to fire a bullet of shining green plasma into the head of the man covered in black who just spoke to Zoara in the most anger-inducing way for him. Just the littlest bit he even wanted to throw the kid into the hands of someone who could get him the hell out of here. But more than anything, he wanted to get out of the flaming tower before something worse got to him or Zoara, and if he had to do it alongside the sword-wielding alien and this collapsed child, so be it: survival was far more important than much else right now.

More people weren't necessarily a bad thing, despite the particular ones he was stuck with. The Ambassador was at least fit and combat-capable, and the kid wasn't going to be the toughest thing to take care of. He didn't have to think long to realize the best strategy was about the same as he'd been doing already; avoiding confrontation, and sticking close to each other. From the look of the end of the hall, the building was running getting more and more hectic, and the only other rule that needed to be added was to keep moving, so Leung chose not to waste more time.

"Fine, come with us" he turned and to the Brin, "You follow me, and help Zoara carry the kid. Got it?" Leung walked over to Zoara, still leaning over the kid, and nudged her to the side so he could get the kid upright. He was still not totally conscious, but he could at least be grabbed by his waist or shoulder and be dragged easily to safety. He pushed Zoara back on the kid gently, giving her the weight of the kid in her arms. He grabbed Zoara by the shoulder and dragged both of them further down the hall, not waiting for the Brin to come help with the kid. He didn't have any destination in mind, but he figured there needed to be some sort of emergency staircase somewhere that could get them somewhere else.

A pair of scuffed white gators clacked along an empty hallway. The tall glass windows that framed one side of the path were completely shattered, leaving the hall vulnerable to the strong winds generating outside. A man plagued by vertigo or a simple fear of heights would certainly meet his foe here. Solo The Mad was nothing of the sort, and though he paused to walk towards the gaping space in the hall the slightest shred of fear never reached his being. Black monsters, of the same design as the ones on the floors below, flew about the skies. As they soared above the carnage below, ooze filled 'mouths' appeared on their pointed beaks, and the creatures let out frightening screeches.

"Come your answer in broken english..." Solo scoffed. His blood was still at a boil. This reckless act would not make his life any easier. Further down the hall, he heard gun shots ring out. The shrill of the beasts resounded as well. The tattoos on the pirate's arm began to twist and turn. The words flowed into his hand and took the shape of a foot long curved dagger. If his magic, and the magic of these beasts were truly the same, he might as well combat them and see which was stronger.

He was going to slit whoever did this' throat anyway.

Consciousness was slowly slipping back to Taro. He wasn't sure where he was, but he felt as if he was being carried. His body was bouncing. It was shifting too, side to side. It looked like whoever was holding him wasn't doing a very good job at it. The violet eyes of the child slowly cracked open and he saw the angelic face of the tattooed woman from before. For a moment, he dreamed that she was Elizabeth, her shape briefly encasing the woman's. The hapless youth's mouth took the shape of an 'O' indicating the formation of a word--but then he stopped.

A noise hit his ears. It was like the crackle of a radio. It was faded and distant, but Taro could clearly hear it. There was something else too, screams. Those were clear, women, men, and children, Taro could pick them all out from one another. But how? The radio was picking up a frequency now. A man named Colonel Archer was giving orders. Taro's face turned pale, and his widened with terror.

"They're going to let everyone die..." He broke free of the woman's hold. Taro now stood on his own two feet. "They're gonna let everyone die? Over some project in the basement?!"

A blue haired soldier stood alone against a gang of Ad Infinitum's beasts. Solo knew his face, he was one of the men assigned with guarding his trial. He had a certain something that stood out to him. A certain brand that they both now shared.

Solo refused to let him die.

"Hey Soldier-Boy, let me take point!"

Zoara struggled under the weight as she attempted to hoist the child along. The Britanovs weren't meant for this sort of thing, there was a reason most of them had never been accepted for military training. Trying to compensate for her weak constitution she tried to lessen the weight with her telekinetic abilities. It helped take a good amount of the weight off of her shoulders but it still made her wish she attempted to work out more. Wait, it seemed like he was waking up. That was a good sign. Watching as he disentangled himself from her grip she felt her stomach churn at his words as she could here the faint static of the radio in the distance. So that's what they were after. Pulling Christopher off to the side she whispered frantically to him, "The Renaissance II is being kept down there."

The Renaissance II was an exact copy of the AI from the original Renaissance that Einstein had discovered sixty-three years ago only now, after years of work, it had a fully self-sufficient AI that was capable of it's own thoughts and actions. This was thought to be able to go up against the Brin's anti-Gear agenda tactics but it was also a trove of information considering it contained the original memories of the old Renaissance. Zoara had been brought onto the project when she had first been taken in by the Conglomerate as a means of them trying to isolate her abilities so they could use them to create self-sufficient AI's, since then she had continued to contribute to the research on the Renaissance II but it had been many years since she had seen the thing up close. Just the thoughts though of someone else getting their hands ahold of it though made her anxious beyond words.

"You should try and find safe cover, alright?" she said to the child as she tried to compose her thoughts, "we can't escape at the moment since some things have come up but there are some places in the building that aren't under attack," she was worried about him but they needed to hurry. "We need to get down there," she said turning to Christopher as she took off at a quick pace to the staircase. "Maybe I can help in some way."

There must be something she could do to help stop this, that GEAR was at the forefront of development and technology, if it fell into the wrong hands they would all be in a lot of trouble. Rushing down the staircase forgot that there was a Brin Ambassador with them, if she had been thinking properly she would've attempted to dissuade her from continuing with them in fear that she would report the intel back to her people but at the moment there was bigger fish to fry.

"We need to get down there. Maybe I can help someway," said Zoara.

As it appeared, Leung didn't have all too much of a choice about being involved with the rest of the situation. Escape from the building had just about stuttered out of his possibility already, but with the Renaissance II apparently there as well there wasn't any option. A weapon like that could do immeasurable damage to the entire island and anyone on it, including themselves if they just tried to ignore it and escape. To top it off, Leung recognized that walking towards a mildly more controllable threat was still far safer than sticking around in the insane mess behind them.

It also meant a lot of Zoara thought she could be of assistance. Leung was aware of the intellect she had in her field, and the strength of her powers in general, but if she felt the urge to aid in something so potentially dangerous then it meant something. To Leung, she didn't have the thoughts of someone walking to their death. Of course the chance that they would still existed quite well, but going down and making things safer for everyone had nearly no downsides besides being extremely dangerous. How that was different from their situation currently though, he couldn't say.

Leung stood silent for a moment as Zoara finished talking with the kid. "Alright, we'll go down," he simply stated. He'd intentionally chosen to ignore the Ambassador, who he quite quickly assumed to be unlikely to follow. If this little risk meant he could ditch one more of the members, after Zoara had already seemingly dealt with the kid (or at least told to go off somewhere safely), he couldn't complain. If she did follow, just the more help in safety and combat. Either way, he had no intention of coming out of it harmed.

Without any wasted time, he walked up ahead and around a corner, where a normal staircase was that could take them down to the basement. He stayed a few steps ahead of Zoara, holding the pistol tight for whatever was up ahead. He opened the door wide so he wouldn't have to hold it to Zoara. All around and ahead he saw the chaos ensuing. Security had clearly been compromised.
