Personality
Veris is a very mysterious individual, and small for his age. He tends to act aloof and comical but tends to become serious at the drop of a hat, especially around certain subjects. In the morning, he tends to stay near the surface of the water for some reason, dancing in the waves. He tends to be kind, jolly, and very affectionate, unless angered. His name literally means 'The Unknown' translated from ancient Merian. Whenever there is a storm, he always grows jubilant and invites others into the water, or to join him in his wave dancing, no matter how dangerous the waves are.
Equipment
The bracelet on his left wrist is actually a magical amplification device, making his spells a little more potent than his level of spell mastery would allow. He never answers where he obtained such a artifact and always wants to change the subject when it comes up.
Sometimes he has a sash across his chest which holds a long curved dagger, tiny trinkets, charms, and other little superstitious objects.
So begins...
Veris's Story

Veris looked out upon the waves bordering the submerged section of GreatReef, a broad smile on his joker face. "What a glorious day..." He mused to himself as he called to the water, stirring up slightly larger waves, soon dancing among the crested peaks of water, like a surfer without a board, only with much more grace and fluid motion.
Veris mounted one of the larger waves, sliding through the liquid like it offered no resistance to him, his laughter echoing as he danced. This gave him more pleasure than anything, being among the waves like this. If he wasn't eating, sleeping, or engaging in conversation, it was a sure bet he would be on the surface of the water, engaging the waves in play. He thought he saw something flying around from the corner of his eye, but he brushed it off as trick of his subconscious.
Veris floated gently to where the water met drier land, timing his leap off the wave perfectly so that he landed on shore with his human legs, a small giggle escaping his lips. "So much fun! Fun, fun, fun!" He gave himself a little clap, summon his bag of clothes from a water bubble under the surface, donning a simple monk's robe, noticing that it was a little big, the neck of it nearly sliding down his shoulders.
Veris had his robe pulled up to his knees, dangling his feet in the water, kicking playfully. He acted like such a little kid when no one else was around. It was just his nature. "I haven't been this close to civilization in years! I missed not having to constantly look over my shoulder all the time!"
Veris was totally caught off guard by the splash, his left eyelid twitching as he wiped the water from his face. "Hmph...that was rather rude ya know..." He blew one of his bangs away from his face again. "Hmph."
Veris sighed and kicked at the water playfully, splashing the other merfolk in the face, just as a bit of revenge. "Silly. I was just messing with you. Maybe yooooou need to chill." He giggled again, pulling his still damp hair out of its pony tail.
Veris meeped as he was pulled into the water, but quickly created a small but concentrated current to sweep him away from his fellow triton's grip, giggling once more in the water, soon surfacing, laughing. "Fun!"
Veris gave the new guy a questioning look, his head tilted to the side. "It was fun cause I was getting bored. Sorry if it wasn't fun for you too." He pouted again, diving back under to play with the currents again, his little giggles echoing through the sea.
Veris suddenly stopped as soon as he felt watched, turning his gaze back to Araluen, cocking a brow. "Its fun. Can you do stuff like this too?" He smirked and made a tiny whirlpool. Well it was tiny at first but soon it grew rather large, have a radius on the surface of almost 3 meters. "Come on!" He called to his race kin, diving inside the vortex.
Veris only grinned. "Of course I do. It doesn't go anywhere! Its just a pool of spinning water! Its fun!" He laughed and swam around inside, vanishing now and again but never completely gone from sight. With his voice distorted by the rushing water, he called out again, seemingly dancing in the 'pool.
Veris spun his bracelet and closed his eyes, the water suddenly snapping to a halt, shooting Veris out of the water. Midair, the triton managed a short flip before diving back into the sea, his jubilant laughter like that of a child. He had no idea what the sudden motion stop would do to Araluen though.
Veris blinked as he surfaced again, wondering why Araluen's control over his breathing abilities were so poor. "Um...What just happened? How come you didn't dance with me?" He blinked once more, seemingly rather perplexed.
Veris sighed and lazily swam over to them, an almost apologetic smile on his face. "Sorry. I'm used to everyone having my kind of training." He thinks back to the trench where he had spent the last seven years of his life. With his fellow Disciples. And the Master. "Really. Sorry about that." He caught a look at the wound before it was covered, tsking. "Hmmm..."
Veris looked at the stranger, a pout forming on his lips. He thought that was rather rude. Its not entirely his fault that these two were the first people he had talked to outside the School in all these years. "So...Sorry about that. I..." He was rather ashamed he had almost hurt someone who didn't deserve it. "My name is Veris by the way..."
Veris wondered around the semi-busy streets of Greetreef, never straying too far from the submerged sections of the city. The small, thin merfolk wore his usual monk's robes, the garment obviously a little too big as it threatened to slip down his shoulders. Maybe he should find some kind of store...but then again, he had no money. Not yet anyway. "Cities are huge...If it wasn't for the sounds of the waves, I'd probably get lost again."
Veris blinked in rapid succession when he saw the two guys from earlier. Well, he saw Torne get pulled into the water and then Araluen pull himself out, laughing like crazy. Then he saw someone he didn't recognize and decided, maybe it was best to just watch them for now. If his record showed anything, he wasn't good with strangers.
Veris decided now was as good a time as any to make his presence known. He slowly slid into the water, diving as deep as he could before resurfacing maybe two yards away from Araluen and Thorne, his childish smile still plastered on his face. "Hey again guys!" He waved, wondering if he should splash the triton again.
Veris turned his head to the side, a little put off at being forgotten, she his pout probably showed. "Is it that easy to forget the guy who almost drowned your friend...?" He gulped, giving a nervous giggle. "Oh and uh...I'm gonna say sorry for that again." He grinned once again. "Hehehe...So how ya guys been?"
Veris laughed before climbing out of the water, suddenly a little ashamed that he jumped in with his robe on. "Hmmm...Well its not like I planned it or anything." He stuck his tongue out at the merfolk, giggling. "If I had planned it, we wouldn't be talking right now." He realized, after saying that, that it came off as a little creepy.
