Introduction
It has been over two centuries since what scholars referred to as 'The Collapse' a time when the great civilization that had once dominated the planet, was crushed. It was thought to have been as the result of war, though few accounts remain. Digital records ended up as little more than useless junk to those of the new world. The accounts of what were passed down in oral tradition. They talked of fire scorching the earth, poisons spreading through the water, the sky being blotted by smoke, and deadly plagues that spread insidiously through living creatures. It was described like a biblical prophecy. Regardless, the majority of the inhabitants of the changed world had little interest in why things had ended up that way...and had a greater interest in how they might survive it.
The population of humanity stands far, far smaller than it had once been, for the most part confined to settlements dotted around in a sparse pattern. Between then the world was desolate and almost bereft of life. From dry, arid planes to misty, rotting swampland, through eerie 'forests' of trees blasted to carbon by incredible heat...to the Ghost Cities. The once-abode of the peoples from before The Collapse. They contained all manner of items to be scavenged....but what lurked within the dead buildings was far more frightening than any ghost. It was thought that the lingering plagues and poisons left behind had resulted in the creation of new life...mutations to be exact...but these things were far from wonders of nature...not to humanity. Most were vicious, predatory, and incredibly dangerous.
Partially due to the natural hazards presented by the desolate lands, partially due to the creatures that lurked in the shadows, travel was something that rarely took place. The world was quite static. Most lived out their whole lives in the settlement they were born in.
Then there were the Guides. A few mercenary individuals travelled the barren lands as a trade, as an occupation. They were couriers, messengers, and they were also guards who would escort travellers who wished to make the dangerous journey from one town to another. Often regarded with suspicion, such individuals often lived lives that were brutal and short....but those that had what to took to carve a niche in the dangerous game could earn considerable riches, and those who preserved themselves were able to retire to a life of comfort, away form the hardship that defined everyday life in the New World.
That is where the story begins.
One day a woman from the settlement of Hollow Springs approached one of the Guides and asked for passage to Meridian, one of the large 'cities' on the continent. Such an ambitious journey would take many days to complete, it would be risky...but importantly even at a modest rate it would pay extremely well in the unpredictable business. The client presented a sizeable deposit, with a promise of an impressive payout at the end of the journey.
It was an offer that was difficult to refuse, even if it did involve escorting a rather difficult individual across hundreds of miles of wasteland.
If only things had not gone so horribly, horribly wrong.
The Client: Sinnead Quinn
Sinnead, or Shinn to her peers, is a young woman who hails from the town of Hollow Springs. As her name might suggest she comes from irish descent, and is the daughter of an archivist. As the result of her father's work she grew up around academics...or what stood for them in the ruined world. As a result she grew up comparatively educated, even cultured, as her parents and their peers struggled to retain works from the old world.
Unfortunately exposure to such things has also made Sinnead somewhat...superior. She thinks of herself as somehow elevated above the average person, and likes to consider herself more intelligent, taking academic knowledge to be a measure of it.
The Guide: OPEN!
The Guide can be whatever you want. Male or female, old or young, human or...a bit inhuman. The setting isn't too heavy on the fantasy, but somewhat 'mutant' individuals would be understandable.
The relationship between the Client and the Guide could also take any form. It could be a friendship, it could be largely antagonistic, it could be romantic. It all depends on the other character, how they interact, and what you would be interested in. The important thing is that it's interesting and complex and makes for fun RPing.
-------
Hi there! I'm Vit, the GM/RPer playing the client/reptilian overlord. I've created this RP based on a dream I had, oddly enough. The idea for the concept was that it would be a post-apocalyptic scenario, but would be based around a buddy format, and on character interaction and human issues rather than guns and monsters.
So, what I would love is another RPer with a similar interest on creating a narrative with a great dynamic between the two. As a result I'm not placing any hard and fast limits on anything. The lore itself it open to negotiation and there's no hard and fast character skeleton, I'm encouraging creativity and innovation.

Re: Footprints on Barren Ground
Also the work isn't very secret, a wildlife trust wants me to make some stuff for their website, which should be interesting.
Re: Footprints on Barren Ground
I tried to make Billy pretty human but give him the level of complexity one would need for an interesting character relationship as things went on.
Let me know when you are ready to start, It would be nice to RP/write after god knows how long.
Re: Footprints on Barren Ground
I'll start writing up a sheet soon-not right now because its early in the morning for me here and my head is spinning-
Freelance work, any chance you can divulge any information on what your working on/for or is it all top secret until the project the employers are working on is finished?
Re: Footprints on Barren Ground
Guns would indeed still exist, as well as some modern inventions, though in general as there is no infrastructure then the majority of it is not usable. Some places in settlements probably have generators in order to provide electrical power, for instance, though vehicles are very scarce.
A handy, resourceful sort would work well. My idea for my character is that she's a very intelligent individual, and somewhat superior due to that, though lacks much practical expertise. I'm trying to avoid making Shinn a damsel in distress, but I figured she may end up paying for her own hubris to a degree.
And it's nice to see another animator. I graduated in July this year and just got offered my first bit of freelance work, which is pretty exciting.
Re: Footprints on Barren Ground
Eh. So this will be like a survival that focuses on in group drama and moral issues rather than killing. Yeah, I can get into that.
I take it that the world tech before being destroyed is todays-a few years forward, a few years back-and thus remnants of it-such as guns-still exists.
If you haven't got someone waiting to fill the role I'll create a sheet once you finished your character profile-I'd like to check her out so I can try to create him a little around her-
I'm thinking a handy man who more about survival plans and knowing basic hard skills: Electrician, engineer, DIY, lock picking and knowing how to run fast to get him and other out of a jam rather than guns or brute force.
Edit: Oh. I just noticed your trying to become a 3D animator. I'm studying in an animation course too-3D and 2D..it kind of general animation-I want to become a concept artist and this is a good way to lead to it, plus it nice to have some animation skills behind your back if you want to go into media.
What a small world.
