She didn't know what to do. Every time she felt an emotion at an extreme level, it happened. Sparks would race over her palm, and lightning would shoot out from her hand, hitting whatever was in its path. She'd heard tales of the people who had developed strange powers, and their deaths soon after being discovered. Everyone had blamed the newcomers. They'd showed up months ago from the other side of the mountains, claiming that they were just trying to find a new home. Obviously they'd been welcomed; fresh faces were always a good thing. But weeks later, people started to change. Normally those who had been around the newcomers, but after a certain point it was hard to figure out who had been around them, and who hadn't.

She clenched her fists, telling all the servants to leave her. She called the last woman back, just before she left. "Tell Milana to meet me in my chambers at once." She turned around, dismissing the woman as she hurried away. Laina headed to her private chambers. She had to tell someone, and the only person she could think of was Mila.

Mila had been dusting the main chamber of the castle when a maid came rushing in. "Milana! Princess Laina wishes to see you in her chambers." Mila looked up and nodded as the maid re-disappeared behind the doorway. Mila made her way upstairs, dropping off the duster and stripping off her apron before finally going up to Princess Laina's room. Making a quick knock on the door and opening the door Mila shuttle door behind her. "Yes Laina?" Mila asked. 

"I need to talk to you Mila.... It's of the utmost importance. You can't breathe a word of it to anyone. Do you promise?" She didn't wait for an answer, knowing that she would keep the secret. They'd kept each others secrets for years. "I think the changes have affected me, too..... Strange things keep happening to me, and I don't know what to do...."

Curiosity pricked Mila's stomach for a moment. Narrowing her chocolate brown eyes at Laina she slightly nodded her head. "What… things?" Her soft voice asked, making her way toward Laina. Slightly taking Laina's forearms and sitting her down in the edge of the bed so they could more comfortably. "Go on." Milana pressed. 

She down down on the bed, trying to stay calm. "Everytime I get really upset, or sad, or angry, there are sparks on my palms, and lightning shoots from my hands. I can't explain it. I've only been able to control it a couple times...." She wondered what would happen if her parents found out, or if the people in town realized something was wrong. "I don't know what to do Mila.... What if my parents find out? What if they kill me too?"

Mila was stunned for a moment but quickly regained her composure. "It's alright Lai na, we'll get through this. And I'll make sure your parents don't find out about this. Even if it costs me my own head."Mila finished, smiling a sweet smile. Tying her best to comfort Laina.
