Keiji is actually quite average in appearance. He stands at 180 centimeters in height, not too tall but definitely not short either. He is rather thin and lanky, with long limbs and spindly fingers, and while his posture is good he tends to draw inwards upon himself, as if hiding from the world. Kei's skin is smooth in spots and rough in others, calluses scattered across his hands and small patches of acne gathering along the tops of his cheeks and upper arms. His hair is a soft brown mess, rarely styled any more than a simple brush-through to tame morning bedhead, and hangs low past his ears, bangs crossing into his line of sight. Keiji's eyes are nearly the same hazel color, only a shade or two darker. Kei is almost always found wearing his school uniform, simply for convenience's sake, along with slightly-too-big hiking boots and a thick coat he seems to always have, regardless of the weather on any particular day. While as a child Keiji was excitable, optimism, and ever so kind, in the midst of the events of the accident and the many things that happened after, Kei has become hardened and quiet. He learned to fight back in the absence of his childhood protector, and while he's still not good at protecting himself,he knows how to keep his feelings hidden from others. Keiji is guarded and doesn't speak to others unless someone speaks to him first, and prefers not to interact with others in the town if he can help it. If one were to take the time to befriend him, they would find Kei to be a calm and soothing boy to be around, always happy to give advice when asked and adhering to personal boundaries with ease, never prodding at sore spots. He's a caring person, and deep down he truly wants affection from others, but he knows the people in town can't give it and as such he's content with just his family. XX

Keiji loves being on the ocean more than anything in the world, the lull of the boat on the waves is incredibly soothing to him. He also loves books of all kinds and music, preferably songs from the fifties and j-indie. He enjoys spicy foods and has a keen knack for tying knots, as expected of a sailor. Kei loves his family, and would do anything to make them happy. He also loves rain and snow, though getting stuck in it is less than fun. Keiji is a good cook, and is a good sailor, having been taught to sail since he could learn the names of the parts of a boat. Keiji dislikes talking to other people, and generally avoids the other residents in Yamaguchi. He hates sweets, and holds a grudge for the sound of the train that can only be chalked up to trauma. His hatred for Yamaguchi is something he hardly acknowledges, and he pretends it isn't there even though his desire to leave the tiny town is ever so overwhelming. XX

Keiji was born in the snowy mountainside town of Yamaguchi, a small place where most people stay their entire lives and foreigners rarely visit, on one of many snowy nights in the deep perpetual winter that surrounds the town. His parents were kind people- his father a noble fisherman and his mother a well loved chef, his grandfather a sailor at heart and his grandmother long gone, leaving a life's worth of stories to tell her tale in absence of the true narrator. XX
He grew up frail, smaller than normal and easily weakened by the cold. His parents worried for him, but Keiji was determined to be like other kids, and he tried his hardest to make others like him, even when they beat him down in return. He could never understand why he didn't fit in with the rest of town. XX
Eventually, one boy did in fact warm up to Keiji, and the two became inseparable, always together no matter the time of day, barely parting to sleep in their own beds (and sometimes each other's). The other kids still bullied Kei, but he had someone to protect him, and he stopped searching for approval from other children when it was obvious he would never get it. XX
One day, however, the bullying got out of hand, and a huge fight broke out between Kei's bullies and his best friend. One of the rude upperclassmen was thrown out onto the tracks by accident, and soon met by a gruesome end. XX
Not long after the incident, Keiji's friend was chased from the town, labeled a murderer and made an enemy of Yamaguchi. Keiji went back to being the laughingstock among his peers, a toy to mess with when one was bored and felt the need to beat on someone. Kei became hardened and callous, cold betrayal making its way into his heart and causing the child in him to fade. XX
Years passed, and the bullying became more petty than violent, save for every once in a while when something would happen and a classmate would need an outlet for their anger. Keiji kept to himself, no longer feeling a need for affection despite how his heart desperately wanted to be loved. XXX
