Introduction
"And so the day would come when the earth would fall into the sky, and all evil would be risen from below. On this day men will pray to their gods for salvation, but in truth the honor and power already resides in their own souls..."
- From the Book of Tith 34:5-6
Six Months Before
"Captain I'm afraid that the situation down at Hawk's Peak is quite dire sir, we need reinforcements soon.. Before..."
"Before what?" The hand of the esteemed Captain DeFlu smashed down onto his desk. The scarred veteran looked up to see the frightened look of the low ranking guard who's expression seemed quite serious. "You really don't think that the end times are coming do you?" The man almost released a chuckle. "No boy, Hawk's Peak is fine, it's probably just a wolf or bear attack."
"N-no sir," the guard didn't want to be disrespectful of his superiors but he knew for a fact that the situation was beyond control. "It is them, the demons, they've come up from the ground. Took me and the whole patrol for a going for. Two of us are already dead sir, I saw those monsters destroy 'em. Please call for some reinforcements. Or let the Jarl know, he could send word to the king... Telling...-"
"Telling what?" DeFlu's face looked annoyed and irriated. "That you think that some myth sprouted to life and killed some of the guard? Do you realize the embrassment that would cause boy? Do you?!" His voice now perched at the edge of aggression. "Leave me before you loose your job."
"But Captain-"
"GO!" Both his fists slammed down and the man had to take a breath. Then he looked up his green eyes blood-shot. "...Go." His voice softened, and the guard quickly jolted off, closing the door behind him. Leaving the captian alone for a second. Sighing he stroked back his greying hair from his face and rolled his shoulders. Abominations, demons, heh it was only a tale made to get children to sleep, nothing more.
That was his first mistake...
At nightfall DeFlu's patrol from Hawk's Peak had failed to report, angry he was forced as captian of the guard to check out the situation himself. Groughly he suited himself up and got ready to make the hour or so trip to the mountain-edge site named Hawk's Peak. It would have been possible for him to contact more guards, maybe make the trip more safe for him, but he didn't bother. Nothing would happen.
That was his second mistake...
As he made the trip he made in the ebony night was fair, the wind gave off a slight warm heat which kept him from feeling the bitter cold of the upcoming fall season. Making his way towards the looming mountains, overhanging his city- Hayfir he thought he saw something, shadows of shapes moving up on the peaks. As he neared he shouted out quite loudly, "who goes there?! Come down at once!"
This was his final mistake.
Rushing down from the mountainside were creatures, creatures that could not be named, couldn't be even thought of... Nothing. Some were canine-like with bulging red eyes and long claws. Others were humanoid ghostly figures were seemed to sprout from black smog. DeFlu didn't have much chance to prepare and only managed to remove his greatsword when he was overwhelmed by the monsters...
"This is the end times..." Were the last words that he ever did murmur.
Today
The Kingdom of Volgrith has been overtaken by dark demon-like creatures said to be the signs of the "end times." These creatures have taken many lives and most people have had to take shelter in the cities that are protected, because their own villages and towns are unsafe. In the Halum (The Book of Gods) it states that the only way to defeat this evil would be to call upon the power of dragons. But dragons are only a myth, impossible to be true. The king has denied many searches to go out of the country into "The Beyond" is look for them, because it is thought to be only a suicide mission. Pointless in matter.
Our characters can have any background the user wishes, but in the end all will somehow bump into a man known as Jafeur, a wizard. He tells our characters that dragons do exist and we're the only ones in which have the power to find them, and to defeat the evil before the end times come crashing down. Though our character responses will probably differ we're all forced to go with him and to go to do non-trival tasks towards bringing the mighty beasts back.
But there's something that Jafeur isn't telling us, something that will either save or destroy the world, and eternity....
----------------------------------------
Species
Human - The most known species of them all. Humans are very hardy people who usually as a whole think of themselves as the highest ranking species. They are the kings, queens, jarls, and any high-ranking citizen.
Lycans - Lycans are any species which during a full-moon morph into a wolf-biped. They are savage monsters at this time and have no thoughts for their actions. Any other night they may shift at will and reclaim all thoughts and memories, but a full moon transformation is not optional.
Vampyres - Usually living in cults or clans these creatures due to their own lack of blood drink others to survive. They cannot be out in the daylight though as they will burn into ashes. There is rumored to be a ring of olde which allowes a vampyre to walk in sunlight, but these are probably just silly rumors...
Orcs - People of the swamp lands orcs aren't really the most prettiest creatures around. Orcs are usually hailed for their strength and high consituation, however put down due to their lack of intelligence. It's rare to see a lot of orcs out in public due to their disgust of humans.
Elves - These people have been in turmoil for some time now. They're high in the slave trade and most who aren't slaves work in some of the poorest places in the country. It is rumored that some elves live in the Beyond and that they are powerful forest dwelling beuts. But these are thought to be just fables made up by lonely elves who wish for a better life.
Dwarves - The mountain folk, they live in dug-out mountains and underneath the earth. Usually if you see a dwarf on the surface it's due to mercenary work, or something along those lines. Dwarves don't like to be messed with and like to keep their religion and their politics to themselves, away from any humans to "convert" them into recent world.
Species (Subsection) of Myth
Faries - Little people that are said to live in the Beyond. They are told that they have little family units and that they sing to the trees and flowers to help cure any dangers to nature. Some say they have magical powers that don't only work on plants but on others as well, but most deny these thoughts.
Dragons - The legends of olde state that a dragon is the king of all creatures, and that they keep the world in its balance. There have been said to be many types of dragons (fire, wind, earth, water, etc..) but they are all from the same origin. Dragons were once believed to stop end a war many thousands of years ago during the times of the Gods. But again, these are just myths to most.
Griffins - Power half lion half horse creatures that have been said love to be in sunlight and live on tall peaks of mountains. These creatures are believed to be able to talk to humans through telepathy and that they are very close to understanding humans. They are a mark on the capital's flag standing for; honor, glory, and strength.
Sirens - They're said to look like merpeople, but instead of being the thought of 'friendly and open' people are twisted horrors that make their victims believe that they're in paradise. Once there they take the body and feed from the soul until they eat away at all the soul leaving the human any empty shell.... Disturbing right?
