While Scarlett's birth was a bit complicated, her life between her mother and father never was. Scarlett was the product of relationship between her about to enter college mother and her already graduated father. Her mother had to drop out of college due to her pregnancy and her father was going to travel the world teaching other people to speak English. The relationship between them ended, Scarlett being the only thing left of it.

Scarlett's childhood consisted of constant traveling between her two parents. She was raised in very differing households. In Tampa, Florida, her mother was very disciplined and wanted to have Scarlett have better opportunities than she ever had. Her single, at the time, mother worked two jobs as a receptionist at a auto shop and waitress at a local bar to provide for Scarlett and herself. When Scarlett was with her mother, she was often alone in her apartment. Her mother would give her homework and assignments to work on while she was gone. Scarlett did it all to make her mother happy since she was always working. Living with her father was always an adventure. Her father travel to many different places though he mostly taught in India, Japan, and Italy. He encouraged her curiosity to explore and to have fun. Her father knew how strict her mother could be so he tried to act as the fun parent. He would still leave Scarlett at his house by herself, but encouraged her to explore the area. The differing parent styles caused tension between Scarlett's parents. She can remembering hearing the two of them argue over the phone about how Scarlett should be raised.

After turning thirteen, Scarlett's mother began to have a close friendship with one of the mechanics at the auto shop. She didn't know what to think of it. All she knew was that he would come over for dinner some nights and he would spend the weekend with the two of them. Scarlett didn't know what to think of him at first. He was friendly and was always nice to her. He'd even bring her little presents and take her side sometimes when her mother and her would disagree. Scarlett thought her mother asked him to take a fatherly role while she was living with her mom, but she found out this was wrong when Jeffrey asked her if it was okay if he asked her mother to marry him. Scarlett told him no at first. She was being possessive over her mother and didn't want to add to her family. Jeffrey respected her answer. Scarlett began to notice how sad her mother was, not knowing Jeffrey ended their relationship. Scarlett felt guilt over it. Her mother gave up so much for her and Scarlett couldn't allow her this one thing. Scarlett went to the auto shop and told Jeffrey he could ask, as long as he promised to not be possessive over her mother. The two shook on it and a year later, Scarlett had a new step-dad.

Life with her new step-dad was actually a lot better than Scarlett would've guessed it was. Her mother was able to drop her waitress job and found a better job as a receptionist at a law office, meaning she had more time at home with Scarlett. Jeffrey was always promoted at the auto shop to manager. Scarlett still traveled to see her father. She began to notice how poor India was. A childhood friend, whose parents were taught English by her father, began to get sick. The family was too poor to afford medicine or health care for their child, leaving her to suffer. Scarlett never found out what happened to her since her father had to move to Japan to teach English. Scarlett always knew she wanted to be a doctor, but seeing someone so young suffer and not know what happened is what made her want to work with children. The need only increased after the birth of her twin, half-siblings. Alexis and Thomas were a delight and blessing to Scarlett who grew up as an only child. Scarlett promised herself she would make a difference.

When Scarlett entered her senior year in high school, she began to contemplate college. Several Ivy League schools were definitely on her radar since it would've made her mother proud. She was valedictorian of her class, 4.0 GPA, and a minority making her an amazing candidate. Her father did attend college at Fulton so being a second generation student. Scarlett eventually decided on Fulton due to it being the least expensive option. She had instate tuition, more scholarship opportunities, and it was close to home. Joining the Theta Chi sorority was not something Scarlett considered. She wanted to focus on her studies, but her father talked about how he loved being Kappa. Without her mother knowing, Scarlett decided to rush just to check everyone out. She liked the Alphas because of their confidence and sophistication, but their entitled attitudes rubbed her the wrong way. Zeta Nu Delta was cool, because they weren't afraid to be themselves, but she wasn't a party girl. Theta made the most sense, because of their sweetness and studiousness. Scarlett was so happy to be accepted and now that she's President, this year will be the year to make Theta even better!

Quirks//Habits//Oddities:
❀ twirls hair when uncomfortable ❀ humming when doing homework ❀ barefoot whenever possible ❀ spontaneously does yoga ❀ loves to hug ❀ can't whistle ❀ sleep talks ❀ always has a Rubiks cube ❀ semi-fluent in Hindi, Japanese, & Italian ❀

Good personality traits:
| Positive | Bubbly | Kind | Generous | Curious |

Bad personality traits:
| NaΓ―ve | Awkward | Self-Conscious | Gullible |

Personality:
Her nickname 'Sunshine' relates mostly to her personality. Scarlett has a very sunny demeanor. You'll always see her smiling and talking animatedly with other people. She loves to talk and learn more about the people around her. Scarlett is very easy to talk to and approachable. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and constantly wants to be understanding of others. She's been described as sweet as sugar and it definitely is true. She is always willing to lend a hand to someone who needs help. Scarlett is very generous with other people. Some have said she's a 'saint.' Relationships for her are rare and tend to not last very long. Scarlett's idea of romance includes commitment, romance, and enjoying being together. She isn't the type to have one night stands with other people and doesn't understand why people are happy with friends with benefits and hookups. She wants to have her Prince, or Princess, Charming and fall in love.

While she can be very sweet, Scarlett isn't without any negatives. Scarlett grew up in a very sheltered environment. Her mother didn't want her leaving the house while she was gone, but her father let her explore even though their home was far away from any neighbors. She didn't have many friends growing up so she'll always been a bit naΓ―ve about people's true nature. She believes the world is still kind and honest, not realizing how cruel people can be. Scarlett is by no means dumb, but she often doesn't realize when she's being deceived or lied to. Scarlett is quick to believe what people tell her since she doesn't understand why people lie or deceive to hurt people. She recognizes these qualities will hurt her, but she prefers to see the positives.

Scarlett tries to be as outgoing and happy as she can, but that gets her weird looks from time to time. Some people view her as awkward. Her happy, positive nature doesn't always make sense in difficult situations. Her idealistic nature can be difficult of her more realistic friends and acquaintances. Scarlett knows people view her this way and it makes her unlikely to act at times. As President, she's always aware of how her actions affect her sorority and her reputation. Scarlett knows all eyes are on her since she's President and doesn't want to disgrace the Theta Chi sorority. She's trying to do her best and hopes to be a great example of what a Theta should be.

Greatest joys in life:
Her Family: While her family can be crazy at times, Scarlett wouldn't trade her family for anything. Pizza: It's basically the greatest food in the world. Helping Others: There's enough negativity in the world and Scarlett wants to be a positive. Good Grades: Nothing is better than receiving an A on her assignments. Hugs: Whether platonic or romantic, hugging makes everyone happy.

Greatest fears:
Not being the top of her class: Her mother never got the chance to attend college so Scarlett would hate to fail her mother by not being the best. Dolls: She watched the Chucky movies with her father as a child and can't stand dolls. Loneliness: Scarlett spent a lot of her childhood alone and the idea of being by herself for long periods of time worries her. Failing her half-siblings: Alexis and Thomas are the light of her life and she doesn't want their childhood to be similar to hers. Debt: Something you've got to worry about when you're a scholarship student and don't come from a wealthy family.

Life philosophy:
"If you can be one thing: Be kind."

Thoughts on Greek Life:
"My mother always dreamed of attending college so I was planning to focus only on my studies, but my father talked about how he loved Greek Life when he was in school. I decided to check it out, but without mom knowing. All the sororities were so sweet, but Theta related more to me more. They value intelligence and school success more than parties or status. I love being a Theta and, as President, I look forward to making it a great year for my girls."

Scarlett never planned on joining a sorority. She wanted to focus on her school work, but her father insisted there was more to college than just the academic stuff. She was neutral about all of the sororities coming in. She liked them all, but Theta had her values. Scarlett doesn't like all t he exclusivity among all the Greek organization. She would rather them all be friends instead of conflict between them. Scarlett never regretted being a Theta and looks forward to having a great year with her Theta girls!

Plans for after college:
"I've always dreamed of being a pediatrician so I plan on getting my pre med degree before going to medical school. After completing my degree and paying off those pesky student loans, I hope to work with Doctors Without Borders to help children in impoverished countries."

Scarlett knew she wanted to be children's doctor since she was little. While traveling with her father, she saw all the impoverished children who couldn't afford health care. Scarlett knew she wanted to help especially after watching a childhood friend suffer. After completing medical school and paying off her student debts, Scarlett wants to work with Doctors Without Borders to help those children. Her minor is to gain a better understanding of how children specifically develop.

The campus was alive with excitement, anxiety, nerves, and anticipation. A new school year has begun and for some, they are moving onto campus for the first time. They've looked at DIYs on Pinterest to decorate their new dorm rooms, managed to find the contact information for their prospective roommate so that they could figure out which one of them was going to bring the television or the small fridge, and prepared themselves for the over-dramatic goodbyes they're bound to receive from overprotective mothers and fathers. For some, they are arriving at Fulton or even Florida in an entirely new environment with a set of people they probably never encountered in their hometowns. Others are simply moving on campus from down the street. For a select few, they not only have done this before - this move in process - but they aren't as enthused. Not unless, of course, you are a part of the Greek life system. For these groups, some are older members awaiting the arrival of the new members they inducted just before the summer, little brothers and sisters they can't wait to fully ensnare into their individual fraternity culture. The others are these new members, eager to move away from the communal dorms and into their respective houses for the first times, eager for all the fun and belonging this new year is bound to bring them. This year means exclusive invitations to parties that other students wouldn't get. Hopefully, they're just as prepared for the drama this year is bound to bring as well.

Some upperclassmen were allowed to move on to campus earlier for various reasons. For instance, Katiana returned to campus on Monday because the dance team began conditioning before the school year even started; because her sister and father were helping her in (her mom couldn't take off), she ended up staying at the hotel with them and getting rides to campus during the day. Plus, Professor Lang - Tricia, now that Kat was allowed to call her that - had wanted her there earlier so that they could shape Katiana's schedule around Tricia's. There was no point in her having classes that would put her on one side of the campus when she would have to be in Tricia's class, helping, five minutes afterwards. The last four days had been grueling. The Fulton University dance team earned their stripes by strenuous hours of exercise and maintaining their flexibility, and while Kat was experienced in all of that, she was still human and was sore afterwards. Even now. It probably didn't help that she hadn't exactly spent as much of her summer as she normally did dancing.

"Why are they working y'all so hard? Ain't y'all already on the team?" Aja inquired, thumbs digging into the still slightly tense muscles in Kat's right calf, taking up a soothing rotation as she tried to massage the ache away. It wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday when Kat returned to hotel, but she knew it was going to bother her for the rest of the day. Luckily, Kat wasn't a novice to this. It was her own fault for not being as vigilant this summer. "Not really," she replied after a wince. Aja had struck a particular tense spot and after a few harder rubs, Kat relaxed onto the sofa they managed to make into the space under her bed. Even though Fulton happened to renovate the Greek homes, it didn't stop them from being cheap to an extent and putting beds that would've belonged to bunk beds in the shared bedrooms. It just so happened that Aja already had a plan for her because of that knowledge.

"Everybody but the captain and co-captain gotta audition to get their spot back on the team. Those of us who were, get to do the conditioning and learn the routine ahead of the newbies so that by the time auditions actually go down, we get judged - not just by how well we do the moves, but how much we add a lil somethin'-somethin' to it." Aja sucked her teeth, wincing in sympathy as she eventually stopped her ministrations so that Kat could fully lay back, legs on her big sister's lap. "Sucks, kiddo," she remarked. Kat was busy texting Jake, Kory, and Annabelle before she responded. "Tis life, babe," she replied, taking in her side of the room, hand in her hair. She'd been hit all over again with the giddiness that came with having Annabelle as her roommate and she couldn't wait to see the redhead. Their names had been on the bedroom door in the Theta colors. But she also couldn't wait to see Jake and Kory, even though she had seen both several times over the summer.

To: Jake, Kory
Dad & AJ wanna kno if u both need help?

To: Annie <3
Just moved in. Where r u roomie?

"Let's go. Dad's probably taking up your new sisters on crushing those pasties and coffee," Aja commented and Katiana slid her feet off the older woman; the petite dance rose to her feet and stretched, ignoring the near silent pop in the base of her spine. She needed to do another stretch before the day was over, a longer one at that. "Shit, I might take 'em up on that," she said with a grin, scooping up her phone and keys as she followed her sister out. The older Thetas made decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee that they had freshly ground in the morning with an assortment of scones, danishes, and pastries, with a few savory treats Kat's fast metabolism was ready to take on. Hopefully, they also had tea. Kat didn't feel like coming back upstairs to get her stash of loose-leaf just yet.

Being the President meant having certain privileges versus the underclassmen. For starters, having a room all to yourself and being able to move in before everyone else. She decorated to the best of her ability and hoped the other girls liked it too. Normally, rooming by herself was a big no-no, but it felt right now. Scarlett would still keep her door open though. An open door policy is essential for being a good President.

Scarlett was currently doing some yoga in her room. She was finishing placing the last of her textbooks on her shelf when the need to practice caught her. Yoga has always been relaxing and she needed to be at peace currently. It was her last year. She'll be out of college and into medical school. Her dreams were getting closer and closer to her, but she felt sad. Theta Chi has meant so much to her and she can't imagine leaving any of these lovely girls behind. Her mother and father would be happy to see her graduate with a perfect GPA and honors. Her stepfather would be happy as well and her step siblings would be happy, but not quite understand what was happening. It was going to be a bittersweet event, but one to remember.

Scarlett heard chatter downstairs and hurried down. She was so caught up in yoga she lost track of time! The new Thetas would be moving in and she wasn't there to greet them. So far being President was going swimmingly. The first two people she recognized was Katiana and Annabelle. Annabelle held a special place in her heart since she was her little, but Katiana was just as precious. "Girls!" She ran over and gave them each a quick hug, Annabelle's with a squeeze. "How was your summer? Can I help you with anything?" She caught that Annabelle was going to go help her father and followed her. She quickly took the bag from Annabelle's hand with a smile that said 'let me do this.' With a big, friendly smile, she stuck out her hand to Mr. Everett, "Hello, Mr. Everett. I'm Annabelle's big sister, Scarlett. It's nice to finally meet you!"

The lukewarm water running down Brook's body felt amazing. His family and him had just spent the last two hours moving in and it was finally over. The manly labor and bossiness from Daisy did not make it easy. Brooks had done surfing earlier that morning and it was an amazing way to start out the year. The waves were perfect, the beach wasn't too crowded, and the sun was shining without being overwhelmingly hot. It felt almost as amazing as this shower does.

After finishing drying off, Brooks returned to his room to change when his phone rang. Caller I.D. said Uncle Tyler. Although the man has been a father figure, Brooks never wanted to call him Dad or Father. It felt wrong to fall him that. Brooks shrugged off the thought and answered the phone.

"Are you having a party already?" A young voice asked on the phone. Brook smiled, knowing it was his sister Daisy.

"You bet I am. It's gonna be amazing and you're not invited."

"You big meanie!"

Playful banter between the two of them was common. A few years ago, Brooks would've thought he'd never have this. Daisy was still in foster care and Brooks was stuck landlocked, away from her. As much as he loved his uncle and his partner, Daisy is Brooks's world. He'd do anything for her and being so far apart kills him. Sure, they have FaceTime and phone calls, but that's not the same as having them physically in front of you. Their conversation continued for a while until Uncle Tyler said they were about to enter a dead zone. The two siblings said good bye before hanging up. Feeling bored, Brooks took out his phone to text a few people.

It never failed that somehow or another Annabelle smelled like the combination of rich ground coffee beans and mint, an odd combination considering the underlying earthiness that came from the minty scent of her usual tea, but the redhead artist drank so much of both that they seemed to seep from her pores. It was the thing that greeted Kat the second they had embraced, and she was beaming when she pulled away, Annabelle acknowledging Aja. Her smile, crazy as enough, only widened at Scarlett's arrival. Kat eagerly returned the embrace, wiggling her fingers in parting as Scarlett went to help her Little up to the room. Scarlett wasn't Katiana's big, which was probably for the better only because Kat wouldn't have known what to do if her big sister happened to be the president of the organization. That just sounded like a lot of pressure and expectations she wasn't even sure she would be able to live up to, and Kat had too much on her plate for all of that.

"Yo, kiddo," Aja called, at some point having moved to their Dad when gestured over. Kat gathered the two plates she had made and walked over, noting her father's put out expression. "The giant five year old here and I better start heading out if we don't wanna get back home too late. Are you going to be good?" Kat smirked at the question. "Pretty sure I told y'all both to get going earlier, but y'all wanted to stay," she replied and Aja punched her arm before embracing her with a tight squeeze that Kat's still somewhat sore muscles protested. She winced in response, but let herself be hugged, still smirking when her sister pulled away. "Don't overdo it this year," Aja said, giving her another firm, telling squeeze that made Kat wince in more than just pain. "I'll try." Was her quieter response. Aja had been the only one in her family Kat had told of last year's events and it still felt like the main reason why her big sister had wanted to take off of work and be a part of Katiana's move-in. Being able to decorate her room in whatever acceptable way that didn't make Kat gag was just a bonus. Kat was minutely grateful that she hadn't seen Nathan at all since being back.

After her father's own parting hug and words, Kat settled on one of the small sofas, Annabelle's plate on the coffee table in front of her as Kat tucked into her own food, finally taking the time to look at the notifications on her phone. Other than an early morning conditioning reminder from the dance team captain and a few dancers lamenting that if they didn't love dancing they probably would quit while they were ahead, Kat found herself smiling at Cornelius' text, but beaming for absolutely no reason at Jake's saying that he would be there. She had honestly surprised herself by becoming interested in CJ last year, though Kat was still wary about calling it anything other than a base level attraction. They were friends, pretty damn good friends. And in all honesty, she needed those. She also couldn't deny that she was intrigued by the idea of them, especially because she just saw Cornelius as so good, and safe. Because Jake wasn't. After everything that had happened with Nathan, and honestly just re-solidifying that Jake was her number one best friend in the entire world, Kat was also reminded why she had been so adamant about originally making it work with Nate. Having feelings that didn't want to go away for your best friend was no joke. It made you do things like grin stupidly in a room filled with people you really should be socializing with, knowing damn well they didn't see you in the same light. That was definitely far from safe.

Nick rolled his eyes good-naturedly at Harry being still hung up on the idea of them getting a coffee maker. It probably was a great idea, especially because it would save Nick the money he spent on Starbucks. Honestly, it was a great idea now that he actually thought about it. Before coming to Fulton, Nick had actually worked at Starbucks and it was his first job at Fulton freshman year. In truth, he probably - if they got all the syrups or creamers - make drinks on the same level as Starbucks. It had just always seemed easier, especially because he was usually on the go, to just stop by the store really quick since the baristas knew his order very well and keep it pushing. Less hassle and Nick always went earlier enough that he missed the eight am flow. That was always hell and he had learned his lesson sophomore year when the longevity of his lab classes increased and he needed more coffee in order to not look like the zombie he felt like.

"Sounds lazy, but your call," he stated teasingly with a grin, going to the drawer Harry specified to get them all out. Steve's pizza was the first one he saw as it was a classic, but Nick preferred actually being there. There was an actual arcade and it had an old-timey, hipster-ish feel to it that had to be enjoyed upfront, not over the phone. But he put that menu on the counter along with both the Chinese and Italian places they frequented. He was about to see if they still had the menu for the Ethipioan place because even though delivery wasn't something the restaurant did frequently, the last Kappa president had been charming enough to get them forever delivery and that was something Nick was never going to pass up on. However, before he could say another word, Harry had thrown himself on Nick without warning and Nick sputtered out a "Sh-shit!" as he hurried to actually steady himself and support his crazy ass best friend. "What are we? Five?" He complained, though he didn't exactly move to push Harry off. Nick wouldn't call himself the most fit person in their house, but he still did some physical activity. If it wasn't carrying crates of alcohol, it had something to do with the serving trays of food or the tennis he tried partaking in. Of course, none of that seemed to matter when Harry gave him a firm squeeze and told him never to leave him, which was playful - obviously it was playful. But that thought alone had not been enough to stop his heart from fluttering like an idiot in his chest and the grin on his face from widening the way that it had. "Yeah, yeah, sure. Just help me figure out what we're eating tonight," he said, thankful that his breath didn't hitch at the first word past his lips.

Taemin dropped her off at the campus gates with a few of her her bags. Honestly, she felt like she was dressed much too frilly to be hauling things around house, yet here she was with a suitcase in hand. Glancing around the campus, eyes watching the freshmen scamper about excitedly.

"You got everything, Sunny?" Turning her head back to glance at her brother, the girl gave a nod before letting out a soft sigh. "Don't worry about me. Don't you need to be off to see your newest girlfriend? What's her name this time?" Sticking her tongue out playfully only to get a little pinch to the cheek in return for the older male. "Hurry up and go before you start crying. I'm proud of you, you know." With another nod, Nari happily gave him a squeeze and held the two blue suit cases in each hand. "Yeah, I know. I'll call you later, okay?" With a wave, he got into the car and drove off. Offering him a wave, she turned to face the crowd of people.

Her face was screwed up a little as a freshmen bumped past her, almost knocking her crown flying. He turned, giving a rushed apology before dashing off into the mass of people. They're much too jittery for my liking this year. Feeling the vibration from her phone and assuming it'd be her brother, she rushed of to a slightly less busy path where she'd have the time to pause. Taking her phone out, she couldn't help but grin a little.

From: Guitar Hero/Jax

Hey gorgeous! Hope you're not ignoring me. Have you made it to campus yet?

To: Guitar Hero/Jax

Hey handsome! I've been here the best part of five minutes, and I've already nearly been knocked over.

To: Babyboy/Harry

How's my favourite doctor? Hope you didn't miss me too much over summer, baby.

To: Miss Red/Scarlett

You here yet? I'm coming to see you later on if that's alright.

To: Mama Bear K/Korinna

Kory! I'm about five minutes away, make sure the door's open for me!

Clicking the power button, the screen turned black and the senior took a glance at herself in the black screen. With a sigh, she slid it away, and continued to tug the cases along until she reached the Zeta house. Home sweet home. In this moment, she was extremely glad for her flat shoes. One case was let go, using her free hand to turn the handle as her foot pushed against the door, sending it opening slowly.

"Guess who's back!" The familiar and faint smell of the house filled her lungs, and a smile touched her lips. Finally.

It did feel good to be back. River can’t deny that. As much as he hated being here, he hated being back at home more so whenever he was away, he was golden. Being back at Fulton was freeing because he wouldn’t have to listen to his father nagging every couple of minutes. Here, he could be an asshole and do what he wanted, and the worst that could happen is someone running their mouth right back to him. Which didn’t happen very often. Either because people were intimidated or because people just found River to be nuisance – he hopes for the former, but most would say it’s the latter.

River leaned himself against a counter, pulled himself up, and plopped down on top of it, while the rest of the guys in the kitchen just stood around. His phone buzzed in his pocket, and he just stared straight ahead, with a serious face, River give a slight eye roll. He wasn’t even in town an hour, and his phone was already blowing up. First Jax, now who could it be? There weren’t that many people that even tolerated River enough to text him. River leaned back slightly to be able to stick his phone in his pocket and pull his phone out. He saw a text from Eliza. Without much change to his facial expression, he started clacking away at the screen of his iphone. Summer was hell, as it always is when I’m home with Eric. Just got here, with the boys. You here? River hit send, put the phone down beside him on the counter and reengaged himself in the conversation with the guys of the Sigma house.

Eliza wasn't anything special to River, but he was some type of eye candy for her. He didn't know if she was genuinely interested in him, or if he was as much fun and games for her as she was for him. Eliza was something for River to play with whenever he wanted to have some fun without getting serious. They haven't done anything - yet - but River knows that whenever he wants to indulge in that sort of trouble, Eliza would be more than willing. He knew she liked him, he just didn't know to what extent. Nor did he truly care. River was ruthless. He was cold. Speaking of games, River thought to himself as he put his phone down after texting Eliza. Another cat and mouse he liked to play was with Scarlett. River looked up at Jax, who had a past with Scarlett. Even though these two were closer friends than most others River knew on campus, what he was doing was harmless. He wasn't actually all that interested in Scarlett, but she was fun to talk to and River was a little interested in corrupting her. Drifting his eyes from his friend, he went on to break the Bro Code and sent Scarlett a text. You back on campus? I know you must be missing me at least a little..

Annabelle's dad looked sligtly confused by Scarlett's introduction. "It's like the buddy system in high school. We just call them sisters."

The confusion on her dad's face cleared and he shook Scarlett's hand. "Nice to meet you too Scarlett.

Annabelle took another bag from her dad. She knew better than to try and take anything back from Scarlett. It wasn't that Scarlett was vicious or controlling, or anything like that, she was just stubbornly helpful. Any protests that they could manage without her would fall on deaf ears. Scarlett had decided that she was going to help and that was what was going to happen. She grabbed another bag from the doorway. "Upstairs then?"

Annabelle bounded up the stairs and walked along the hallway until she found her room. A brief thrill ran through her when she saw she was rooming with Katiana. She dropped her backpack on the unmade bed and helped get the rest of her cases in her room. "I'll have to head off now sweetie, work needs me tomorrow."

Annabelle nodded. "Ok, sure. Don't worry about it." She wrapped her arms around him and pecked his cheek. "Thanks for driving me over."

Her dad gave her a brief squeeze before he pulled away. "Take care. and if you ever need anything, just call."

Annabelle smiled. "I think between Scarlett and Nick, I'll be fine, but I'll call when I get homesick." She looked over at Scarlett. "She's a fine upstanding member of the community. She's studying to be a doctor. I'm in very good hands," she said as she led her dad back downstairs. She could feel her phone buzzing in her pocket. She wasn't usually this popular. Her dad opened the door to the car and gave her one last peck on the cheek.

"Take care sweetie."

Annabelle rolled her eyes playfully. "I will. Drive safe." She waved him off and watched the car pull away until he turned the corner off the street. It was a bittersweet feeling watching him go and she missed him the moment his car was out of sight. She took her phone from her pocket and opened her messages. Her chest tightened for a split second when she saw the first message was from Brooks. She liked Brooks, of that she was sure. What she wasn't sure about was exactly what these feelings were. They had been friends since their freshman year and she had missed him. Being around Brooks was as easy as breathing.

To: Ocean Boy/Brooks
I'd definitely rather be drawing than unpacking. See you later?

And then there was Khari. How the hell had she gotten into this? She wasn't expecting to like anyone, at all, nevermind a senior. He was cute, really cute, and Annabelle knew she got hideously flustered when he was around.

To: Ari
Define fun. I visited some art galleries on my own. Such a rock&roll lifestyle, I know. How was your summer?

Annabelle pocketed her phone and headed back inside. She sat down on the couch next to Kat and took her plate. Annabelle propped her head on Kat's shoulder. "So, how was your summer?"

Helping her little move in reminded Scarlett off her first move-in day. It could be described as tense at first, but became better later on. Her father canceled a week of his English classes in Italy just to help her move in. It was also the first time he would meet Scarlett's stepfather. The twins were left with a babysitter so it Scarlett's mother, her father, her stepfather, and her. The first meeting was very tense since her biological father and stepfather were sizing each other up. Mom was very neutral about her one night stand/father of her child. Jeffrey, her stepfather, was a traditional man so it upset him that Scarlett's birth father left the two of them and didn't take full responsibility. Her biological father was used to being the only man in her life, so that made him feel threatened. A competition began between the two of them. Scarlett and her mom didn't understand, must be a man thing. The two men would try to carry the most or argue over who would set up the lights or hang pictures. The whole thing was hilarious and it let Scarlett and her mom do some last minute shopping. They came back and everything was set up and two were laughing over something, and drinking beer. Scarlett doesn't know where they got the beer from, but the two men were best friends and her room was set up. It was a fond memory.

It was getting later in the day and many of the other girls made already moved in. Scarlett spied into the living room to see Annabelle and Katiana talking and snacking on the treats some of the upperclassmen got for the new residents. The older Thetas always try to do something nice for the freshman and sophomores. Dinner was coming up to and Scarlett was in charge of that. Pizza was perfect good her, but maybe they should do something a little nicer. A nearby Chinese restaurant gave special discounts to Thetas, because the owner used to be a Theta and Scarlett was known to come by at two in the morning for fried rice. Annabelle would love it since Chinese is a favorite. Katiana might want something else though. There's an iHop nearby, which is one of Katiana's favorite. "Hey girls! Do we want to order in from Mr. Chen's or go to iHop for dinner? We're not going immediately. I just wanted you all to think on it! If we order in, I think Kappa is doing is doing the same, so maybe a little get together with our sibling house!" Scarlett still needed to call in at home, Mom's orders. Plus, plenty of new texts needed to be answered and she needed to run her idea by Harry!

To: Second Best Doctor / Harry
Is the doctor in? ;P
Did your house plan on eating in tonight? Theta might be doing the same so would you like to have a little get with your favorite sorority? I'll buy dessert!

Brooks couldn't help pacing as he wondered throughout the Beta house. He said hi and had a few conversations with some of the nicer guys, but it was only to be polite. Brooks knew he wasn't very popoular among the other brothers in the house. Most of them wouldn't give him a second glances if he hadn't been accepted. He wasn't pedigree like some of them or a legacy. He's heard stories that some of his Beta 'brothers' have been spreading behind his back. They say that not only is B.S. is his initials, but it's also the reason he was chosen for Beta. Rumors say that he was a charity case, accepted only to make the fraternity look better. Everyone knows he's adopted by his Uncle and his boyfriend, but Brooks said it was because his parents passed away when he was young. He'd rather be known as an orphan instead of a 'crack kid' like in elementary school. Hopefully, his lie won't come to the light. The Betas already think he's lower in status so that would be putting his at literal bottom of the totem pole. He knows he is only higher, because his Big is the President. Brooks still didn't understand, but luck chose him for some reason, only the coming year will tell.

"Home, sweet, home!" A familiar voice called out. Brooks was quick to hurry to the entrance. He knew that voice anywhere. It was the voice of someone he considered a friend. Maddox was one of the few great people in Beta. He didn't care about who Brooks was attracted too, though he would voice his opinion regardless. It was nice to have a friend in the house who was lax about his sexuality since all the others acted scandalized by his interested in the opposite gender.

"I'm glad you're here. No one interesting or nice is here." Brooks didn't care if the other Betas heard him. He knew what they said behind his back. "Want to do anything? I told Eliza I would help her unpack and I haven't seen Abigail yet so could we head over to Alpha?" Brooks desperately wanted to get out of the house. He needed cool people to be around. Speaking of cool people, he felt his phone vibrated.

From: Arden The Awesome
Hey, you on campus? How was your summer broski.
Okay. That was weird, ignore that please <3

To: Broski/Arden
It's now your new name on my phone so I guess we're both weird!
Summer was great! Although, my surf spot in Cali is now private. I learned that the hard way. Handcuffs are not fun, my friend. I'll give you more details later. I told Eliza I would help her move in. :(

From: Princess/Eliza
Can't tell if you're joking, but if you could come help me I'd be so grateful. I might even be nice.

To: Princess/Eliza
NICE! I've always wanted to see that. I'll be there soon. Maddox might be coming too.

From: Music Maker / Alea
Yeah, got here a few hours ago.
I have something for you from Jamaica, though you’ll need to come down here soon so you can enjoy it.
It’ll die soon, but I got it right before I headed to the airport so we got maybe 9 or 10 hours?

To: Music Maker / Alea
A gift for me? Awesome! I gotta help some of the Alphas move in, but I'll hurry.

From: Picasso/Annabelle
I'd definitely rather be drawing than unpacking. See you later?

To: Picasso/Annabelle
Sweetness! I did some sketches that I wanted to show you.

SATURDAY AUGUST 26TH || BACK-TO-SCHOOL BONFIRE || 9:15 PM
The significance of the Fulton University Back-to-School bonfire was that it was originally meant for one to cast into the flames the troubles of the year before; whatever it was that one felt was holding them back, whether it be a relationship they couldn't let go of on their own or anxieties that crippled them academically when all one needed to do was have faith, it needed to be thrown into flames. It was supposed to bring relief and that relief was found in throwing away the jacket an ex gave you or even a bracelet from a friendship you thought would never end. Don't let the alcohol and tomfoolery fool you. It was supposed to mean something and to some, it still does.

Nevertheless, each year the bonfire is hosted at the estate of an undisclosed sponsor - some believe it is an alumna, but until proven otherwise, take advantage of being in a mansion that most won't ever actually afford, #sorrynotsorry - where the beach property is mostly used for celebrations. Students also like to occupy the spacious home as there is a DJ inside, as well as inside, and food. Most have already arrived at this annual festive event filled with drunken hook-ups, wild dancing, tricks and the like while others are still on the way. At the end of the day, though, it's very rare that a night like this doesn't end in a fight or two, especially with the Greek organizations in attendance...

His night was spent unpacking and avoiding the chaos that followed the multitudes of new check in coming through the campus. He caught up with few people, didn’t care much to go out of his way to see or talk to anyone he didn’t need to. That was usually the case with River. Very rarely did he ever go out of his way for anyone other than himself. Perhaps because he learned from a young age that this world was dog-eat-dog and he had to have the strong bite if he wanted to make it anywhere in life. To others, it came off as arrogant or abrasive. To him, it was survival. Not in the literal sense of course, River was very blessed to come from a financially stable home regardless of whether or not he felt he belonged, he did inherently come from money. Survival in the emotional and mental sense. In order for River to survive the demons that lived, pounding at his closet door, he needed to build a wall between him and weakness and that was how he did it.

The night spent unpacking was time well spent. River knew that the upcoming week was going to be full of events and activities that he was more than likely going to get forced into going to so he wanted to make sure all his things were put away. Waking up the next day was refreshing. There was no alarm. There were no parents. No pounding on his door asking him what his plans were for the day, whether he was going to work or be a bum. River got up just before noon. He showered, dressed, ate breakfast and delivered his rental car. River took an Uber to the storage lockers in town where he had locked his bike in while he was away. He spent the day working on it, cleaning it, and riding it before the bon fire that night.

* * *

River wasn’t planning on going to the bon fire with anyone in particular, much less alone. But he figured what a better way to work his magic on the girls of his choosing than in person. He truly was a cocky and arrogant son of a bitch, but he didn’t mind. It was just about 8pm when River decided it was a good idea to start heading home from his drive to start getting ready. He wasn’t one to show up on time for things anyway, he preferred being fashionably late to things. As he got home, he made his way up to his room to shower and get dressed. Before he jumped in the shower, he sent a text out to a few people. To Scarlett: you going to the bon fire? And to Deanna: will I see your crazy ass at the fire tonight?? He hit send and went about his shower.

Morning yoga for Scarlett was about as essential as coffee is for Finals Week. She started out every morning in the backyard of the Theta house. Sometimes the girls would join her and it'd be like an impromptu yoga class, but it was great for building moral among the girls. The girls always said that her little yoga sessions helped build positive vibes in the house so Scarlett saw no reason to stop. Little moments like these were precious to Scarlett, especially know that she's a senior. Soon, she'd be passing the baton to the next President. While graduating and med school was exciting, she would miss her time in the Theta house. It was like a second home to her and she wanted the next President to make it feel the same.

The rest of Scarlett's day was filled with checking in on the new members and helping some of the new girls choose an outfit for the bonfire tonight. The Theta's reputation on campus is a great one, but when a party comes around, most people expect the Thetas to stay locked in their house, studying and preparing for tests. Some girls do do that, but the Theta girls can enjoy a party just as well as the other sororities. A few girls needed advice on what looked good and if wearing a swimsuit with a cover-up was okay. It was naturally and Scarlett did her best to ease any anxiety among her new sisters. It wasn't until seven when she finally got to get ready herself. Scarlett did decide to wear a swimsuit under her clothes since it was a beach setting. Her cover-up consisted of a tribal crop top and black maxi skirt. Sandals as footwear since she'd be taking them off by the end of the night. To top it off, Scarlett kept her makeup simple and sweet. She smiled as she looked in the mirror. Tonight would be a night of fun and no drama. A sudden chirp from her phone distracted Scarlett from her positive thoughts. Speaking of drama, Scarlett sighed at the text from River. It wasn't as if he was a terrible person, but the idea of him didn't feel right. He was one of Jax's good friends and known for devious behavior. Even though her brain said don't respond, Scarlett typed out a response and sent some of her own texts.

To: Trouble / River
I'll be there! See ya there?

To: STUDY BUDDY <3 / Nari
Wanna meet up at the bonfire? I need my best girl!

To: Second Best Doctor / Harry
Ready to party like we just finished a twenty hour surgery? lol

To: Brother from Another Mother / Nick
I better see you at the bonfire! Save me a dance <3

Checking herself one last time, Scarlett made her way to her little and her little's roommate's room. She knocked on the door, not wanting to intrude in case they were changing. "Hey girls! Do you need any help getting ready for tonight? Or maybe a ride?"

Annabelle stared at the clock on her bedside table, not quite registering what the numbers were telling her. It was afternoon...maybe? Close to the afternoon. She rolled over and checked her phone. 14:28 was the time the clock was telling her. That was way into the afternoon. Annabelle sighed and fell back into her pillow. In hindsight, staying up way into the small hours with Kat just talking, and drinking a lot of tea, wasn't their smartest move. Fun, but not smart. At least classes haven't started yet.

Annabelle swung her legs over the side of the bed and slowly sat up. The afternoon light filtered in through a gap in the curtains. Annabelle saw her phone was blank and tucked it back under her pillow and wiped the sleep from her eyes. She stretched out and grabbed her towel and shampoo and headed to the shower room. Annabelle sighed as the hot water hit her shoulders, easing the stiffness that had come from the car journey yesterday. She lost track of how much time she had spent in the shower, but she didn't emerge until she smelled of oranges and grapefruit.

With a few hours to kill, Annabelle propped a small canvas up in the corner of the room. Annabelle looked out of her window. The sky was blue and clear, and cold. Blue and purple were squeezed onto a palette and began splashing colour onto the canvas. Great bold spirals and swipes of colour adorned the canvas. When the canvas was covered, she stood back and picked up a new paintbrush and went back in, building a picture that she could see in her mind.

She sighed and dropped her paintbrush back into the beaker. Her phone buzzed behind her and she picked her phone up.

I'll see you at the bonfire? Us artists have to stick together!

To: Ocean Boy
Like I would dare miss you.

There was a knock at the door and Annabelle looked over her shoulder as Scarlett came in. Annabelle was pretty sure that she had paint smears on her face and hands, it usually happened. "Hey girls! Do you need any help getting ready for tonight? Or maybe a ride?"

"I dunno, I probably need to wash up again. A ride would probably be good."

Her phone buzzed again. It was a text from Khari.

This was ought to be one heck of a night. A bunch of college kids mixing together while there was booze and partying about, what could possibly go wrong? Actually, there were a lot of things that could go wrong, but the brunette wasn't thinking about that. No, she was much too busy picking out an outfit. After trying on almost six different skirts, two pairs of leggings, a body suit, and seven different shirts, Nari finally decided on something more comfortable. A thin purple jumper, comfy skirt, and a pair of fishnets. Honestly, she didn't really care if other people would like it, it was on her body, and she looked great.

After a talk with they girls, Nari decided she was going to go a little earlier to ensure they had the right sort of drink, mainly so she could get dibs, but she'd buy more if she had to. Her tucked her hair behind her ear, picking up her phone after ignoring its vibrations for the day.

"See you later, Korry. Give me a text if you want me to buy any alcohol or anything like that." Giving the president a wave, Nari stepped out of the house. It was just getting dark, and the sky was such a beautiful hue. Smiling to herself and walking across campus while she ordered a cab, she though back to last year. Hopefully Harry won't have to carry me home this time. . . However this went, Nari knew she was going to have one hell of a time. Once the cab arrived at the gates, she was on her way to the bonfire. I mean, she may have gotten dropped off at the nearest supermarket to buy vodka and prosecco, but she way on her way!
