Ratchet's Story

In one of the residential buildings, a lombax named Ratchet and his robot companion named Clank are at the training room. Ratchet is doing target practice with an explosive gun made by Torgue. It seems that Ratchet is chosen by the Torgue gun manufacturing company to try out their weapons of mass explosion. Ratchet will provide feedback to the manufacturers after testing out the weapons for them. Aside from the job Ratchet is doing, he is now laying off from the heroic duty and decides to let other heroes take a shot at their jobs. Clank suggests that if there's danger afoot, action must be taken.

Out of seemingly nowhere, a number of screams can suddenly be heard coming from outside the residential building Ratchet and Clank are currently in - something apparently causing great alarm among those of Sicherheim's many citizens whom happen to be out at this hour.

"What was that?!" Ratchet halted his practice.

"It appears that it's coming from outside." Clank replied, "We must investigate and find the source of the problem."

"Good thing we have the B00M3R prototype. Let's take this baby to the next level."

Ratchet's inventory contains his trusty Omniwrench, his Combuster, and the prototype B00M3R. He leaves shelter with Clank following him. Whatever is causing the ruckus needs to stop.

Upon exiting their humble abode, the duo is greeted by quite an unexpected sight; dozens of Sicherheim's otherwise ordinary citizens running about the city in a bestial rampage, seemingly infected with some sort of blackened slime-like biomass that is spread along their bodies; with said biomass forming several unnatural and grotesque limbs, claws, or pincers on their bodies - as well as being covered in sickly-looking yellow eyeballs that writhe about within the parts covered by the biomass.

The city itself is also apparently being consumed by the creatures, as several blots of the unidentifiable biomass (which also apparently sport numerous grotesque yellow eyes) are currently 'decorating' the walls and buildings, ever so slowly growing over the steel and concrete as time passes.

Aside from that, while the person behind this attack seems to be long gone, the infected citizens however are still running rampant around Sicherheim and are attacking just about anyone in sight, despite the defense attempts of the local police and military-types; the creatures easily overrunning them and either viciously tearing them apart, or simply inflicting grievous wounds upon them - those who are deathly wounded shortly getting back up after a while, turning into one of those infected creatures themselves and joining the herd of monsters.

Two of these infected creatures eventually notice Ratchet and Clank, meanwhile; these two monsters screeching loudly before lunging towards them.

"WHOA!"

Clank jumps on Ratchet's back like he is a backpack. Ratchet swings his omniwrench across the two monsters, which of course, break their jawbones and sends them flying.

The two monsters are smashed against the wall of a nearby building with sickening cracks, their bodies falling to the ground; unmoving. This ends up attracting the attention of more of these creatures, however, as some of them suddenly turn to face Ratchet and begin to spit writhing blobs of that weird biomass at him.

"Oh, this ain't good."

Ratchet commented on the situation, but Clank activates his Heli-Pack function to lift Ratchet off the ground and flew up to the higher elevation. Ratchet switched his Omniwrench to his Combustor and shot the monsters with near-perfect accuracy.

These monsters are blasted to bits, but this seems to really agitate the others in the area; most of which decide to cease their attacks on the civilians and start gathering together directly under Ratchet - forming a tower of sorts as they try to climb over each other and reach him (which makes them all too much an easy target for whatever remains of the local police) - while a few other, smarter monsters start climbing up the sides of nearby buildings, before leaping off of them and towards Ratchet, aiming to knock him to the ground.

Ratchet counterattacks with his Omniwrench. It's a good thing that these monsters stopped attacking the civilians. "We must lure them away from here, Ratchet." Clank suggested, "Right now, they are focusing on attacking us."

"Let them chase us, Clank. I got a few more tricks up my sleeve." Ratchet responded to Clank's idea. "Let's head over to that gate."

Clank brings Ratchet over to the gate as quickly as possible. He brings Ratchet up to a higher altitude if possible.

The higher altitude helps dissuade the infected civilians that were climbing up the buildings from leaping at the duo anymore - likely because the few monsters whom still try that trick now end up falling to the ground, dead.

The horde of monsters still on ground level continue to chase after Ratchet and Clank, meanwhile.

Ratchet pulls out the Groovitron Glove and spawns out a Groovitron Bomb in his hand. He tosses one at the horde of monsters. When hit on the ground, the Groovitron Bomb levitates from the ground and plays funky music around the monsters. The groovy aura forces the monsters to dance.

This certainly makes the monsters look much less threatening, as they snarl and screech in response to not being able to keep their bodies from dancing.

And boom goes the dynamite.

The Groovitron Bomb explodes with a very large radius, killing the monsters surrounding it.

"That was a close call!" Ratchet breathes with a sigh of a relief.

"There's still a problem regarding a mysterious incident. Perhaps we need to investigate this madness and find out who let these beasts out." Clank suggested.

Any clues or witnesses that might have helped point out who specifically could have instigated this attack are long gone at this point, and most of the surviving people nearby who haven't already locked themselves inside their homes look too shocked to provide any answers at the moment, as medical crews suddenly start appearing on-site and begin assisting those in need.

A small handful of the monsters left over, meanwhile, hiss vehemently at Ratchet and Clank before fleeing from the scene, quickly disappearing from sight as they open some of the city's manhole covers and jump down into the sewers. Even the ichor-like blots growing on the buildings follow suit; suddenly growing grotesque limbs which they use to tear themselves off the walls, before crawling into the sewers after their bipedal brethren.
