Setting
"And now this raid..." Kaia said. "Their weapons weren't Coronach standard-issue, that's for sure. And now the top guns around here don't want to listen only because of our 'connection'!"
"And yeah, I did see those guns they had." He continued towards Kaia. "I didn't know what they shot, but I wasn't about to find out."
"Did you know they weren't fireproof? Cole found out the hard way." Tempo said, letting out a small laugh.
"Hey! Heyheyhey, keep a hold of yourself, okay?" Andy said. "After what happened with their ship, I'd say you're more than even now."
"...Thanks..." Kaia replied, drying her eyes. "Anyway...those weapons certainly weren't the kind that Coronach's military would utilize, nor the nanites for that matter."
"Well, of course they'd blame Coronach," Kaia said. "In a blind panic, those sheep are prone to believe anything that their 'trustworthy shepherds' tell them, regardless of what common sense may dictate."
...
Death's Head was stuck. He had helped with the clean-up of those who had gone wild with super powers, but now he was left with basically nothing. He had found no leads on where to find anymore members of the White Platoon during his work, and he could feel the Platoon's bounty slipping further and further from his grasp. He had to get moving and take some action. But where to start?
And that's when he noticed the televsion in the store window he was walking by.
"We're live outside Sanctuary Prison, where the executions of the terrorists, Alexander and Quintus von Koopa, are scheduled to take place this morning." says the female reporter on the TV. "Both are notorious members of the White Platoon, with Alexander von Koopa having taken part personally in the assassination of the ambassador, Marshall Judah, and Quintus von Koopa involved in various murders over the years--"
Members of the White Platoon? About to be executed? If the best freelance peace-keeping agent around was going to find any fugitives belonging to the White Platoon, it would be at Sanctuary Prison. There would most certainly be a rescue attempt.
And so Death's Head was off.
"Hey, guys. Anybody want some cola, coffee, energy drinks. I'm about ta go get some." Rita said.
((Sorry I got back late. We can just say this is what was going on earlier or something.))
"General, incoming call from Senator Uldrich!" shouts one of the soldiers at a computer.
"On screen." replies Ashbury bluntly.
Uldrich's face does indeed appear on the largest screen in the room.
"General, it's time." frowns Uldrich. "After the blunder that was this morning's executions, we need to save some face. And what better way than beginning this little war? Send the first missile at--"
"Actually, sir, we have a problem." interrupts Ashbury. "As far as we can tell, Coronach's mages have put up a force field around the entire continent. Nothing or no one can get in or out... and that includes our nuclear missiles and nanite troopers."
"Dammit!" snarls Uldrich. "Isn't there anything we can do?!"
"I am afraid not, sir." remarks Ninjacker suddenly, sitting at one of the computers himself. "I've analyzed every inch of that forcefield, and it's virtually impregnable. All we can do is wait for them to put it down... or at least a part of it down."
"Very well then. If even an inch of that forcefield vanishes at any point, send in the nanite troopers. They'll be able to take the rest of the field down from the inside, I'm sure, and leave it wide open for our missiles! So get them mobilized and ready for deployment immediately. I'll hopefully be at the command center soon... traffic is a mess right now. Uldrich out!"
The huge screen flickers off, and Ashbury begins sending out the orders for the nanite troopers to get ready... just in case.
"Send orders to the nanite troopers!" barks Ashbury. "They are to head into Coronach airspace immediately, and set up camp at Bacaina Shrine! GO GO GO!"
Several military planes take off from Sanctuary a few moments later, heading for Coronach...
"AGH - !!"
"Andy - ??" Kaia reacted in shock.
Andy struggled against the pain, then saw a vision of some sort...Coronach veiled in a barrier, then that barrier breaking, and then Coronach reduced to a dusty wasteland, and finally a black mist erupting from where the Bacaina Shrine USED to be...these visions horrified Andy. When they ceased, he nearly collapsed to the floor...but Kaia's summoned Hecaton caught him. He spent the next several seconds catching his breath, eyes widened.
"You...had a vision, didn't you?" Kaia asked. "What was it?"
"They...They're about to attack," Andy said. "They're somehow gonna...gonna sabotage Coronach's defense and then...blow it all to hell. And a key...a key will be destroyed by...!"
"A key...?" Kaia responded, somewhat puzzled.
"That's...all I know," Andy said, his tone becoming less panicked. "Those assholes are gonna be sending an invitation to Armageddon..."
It's not going anywhere, if you hadn't guessed already.
"Ignacious swears he thought this would be more fun than it is," muttered Ignacious, staring intensely at the chessboard that has now begun to collect dust - shortly before he flips it over in anger. "BAH! Why didn't his dangerous experiments give him puppetry powers instead?!"
"You okay, man?" Tempo asked.
"What was that just now?" Cole asked before Kaia spoke up. Then, after hearing Andy explain his vision, Rita ran to a corner of the room and started loading up all of her gear.
"Rita, what are you doing?" Cole asked.
"What's it look like? I'm gonna run out there and stop these guys." Rita said.
"We can't just rush into this without thinking." Cole said.
"And I can't sit by and watch these guys bomb a whole continent." Rita replied as she loaded up the last of her things and headed for the door.
"Do you even know how to get to their HQ or what to do when you get there? Do you even know where it is?! We need a plan of action!" Cole shouted.
"I'll figure it out on the way!" Rita said as she walked out the door.
"Rita!" Cole yelled as she walked out. After mumbling something about her under his breath, he said to Tempo. "Follow her. Make sure she doesn't get hurt."
Tempo said a quick "Got it" before skating out of the room after Rita.
"...I know where to go," he said in a surprisingly dark tone. He stood up, continuing: "Time to show them the hand of justice!"
With that, he bolted out of the hotel room, not giving Kaia (or her fairy) the time to catch up.
"Andy - !" Kaia shouted, following after him. It seems Andy's path is taking him toward Ninjacker and Ashbury's location.
"Oh dear." mutters Ninjacker, seeing Andy and Kaia on a monitor. "... General, would you mind if I took a coffee break?"
"Go ahead, Ninjacker." replies Ashbury. "But we'll be continuing with or without you."
Ninjacker nods, and heads outside. Just then, red lights all across the control room start flashing.
"GENERAL!" cries a soldier. "The part of the force field around Bacaina Shrine is completely down! Do we send in more troops or..."
"This is maybe our best chance we have to end this war with minimum casualties!" exclaims Ashbury. "FIRE A MISSILE!"
Elsewhere within the factory/command center, some workers prime a nuclear missile for launch, and fire it high into the sky, towards Coronach. Some in Sanctuary look up in amazement, some in pride, and some in sheer horror.
As he ran, he called Tempo to let him know that Andy had an idea of where to go. Luckily, Tempo and Rita hadn't gone outside yet and he was able to stop her. The three were able to meet up and follow Andy and Kaia.
"No - !!" Andy cried out. Realizing he can't stop the missile, any optimism he had on his face was gone as a furious glare sparked in his eyes. "Those bastards...They deserve judgment!!"
His whole body became enveloped in a bright indigo light, which then zoomed into the factory, breaking right through the first door available. It made its way past anyone inside until it made it to Ashbury's location, winds swirling around it.
"Oh, for..." sighs Ninjacker. "I came out here in the first place to stop him from doing something stupid like that."
-----
The light cleared in a pulse, revealing a human with the head, feet, and tail of a black jackal, his hair streaked with blue and yellow, a blue chest-length cloak (fitted with a gold ankh), a cobalt shendyt, and gold bracers on his right arm and both legs. He flashed open his eyes as he hovered above the ground on a pillow of air, his flat cloth-like wings spreading out.
Meanwhile, Tempo and Rita were outside with Kaia. Seeing Ninjacker come out, Rita walked past Kaia, up to him, wrench in hand, and swung it at him.
