The long mountain range that lines the northern part of Dream Valley. It borders on the Dry Dry Desert on its west side, and the Crystal Land on its east side. Is it just me, or do some ne'er-do-wells like to call these mountains home...?

There is a hideout somewhere in the mountain range. Well, actually it's not really much of a hideout, but it is a medium sized cabin where the biggest jerk of time lives in there. He is a big fat cat named Big Bandit Pete. But this isn't his default name. He had been called with many alias in the past and he had done with a lot of scandals back in the time. One of those was the penguin meat scandal and the hotel scandal. Here, he is occupied with a couple of low-life thugs. At least Pete provides them shelter with minimal benefits.
Hanging out with Pete are two more ne'er-do-wells - Wario, a flabby and unhygienic individual, and Fawful, a bizarre little green genius.
"So Petey, you hear the news?" Wario said. "There's a mysterious emblem a-glowin' up in Mt. Moon! Word has it it could lead to something amazing - maybe even...treasure!"

Big Bandit Pete gets off the ruined couch and chuckles at the moment.
"If that's the case, then we're gonna be the ones to take the treasure for ourselves. But it better not be a hoax this time. I still remember that one time they try to trick me, Big Bandit Pete. And if this symbol doesn't do anything, we'll give that news reporter a pummeling for wastin' our time."

"I have chortles!" Fawful summoned his personalized rocket-pad, riding it after the two lugs.

There is an old shrine where a red echidna is guarding behind a mystical green jewel called the Master Emerald. It's hard to be a guardian without letting anyone snatch it right behind your back, but for Knuckles, it seems like he's over it. But there is something important about the Master Emerald as if it is an eternal battery.

It feels like the creepy Sonic creature is behind him. He turns around and faces the virus, but thinking that monster is the real Sonic, he wipes his forehead in relief.

Sonic.exe vanished in a blur, reappearing behind Knuckles. "Is that your best?" the doppelganger chuckled.
Again, Sonic.exe vanishes in a near-instant, reappearing behind yet again. "Fast as your brain, as per usual."
"I'll make you eat those words, you son of a--!" Knuckles charges again and attempts to punch Sonic.exe, but his fist and himself went right though him. He falls down face flat, and that mildly hurts. Knuckles slowly turns his head towards Sonic.exe and he seems very paranoid about him. "Wait... how...?"
Sonic speeds his way into the scene as he is looking for his friend Knuckles. Mario will have to keep up the pace since he is not as fast as the blue hedgehog.
Sonic.exe looms over Knuckles from behind, grabbing him by the throat.

Mario and Sonic don't have much time. But they fear that if they don't make it there, Knuckles is doomed.
Knuckles tries to let himself free from Sonic.exe much to no avail. "You.. coward...!" But a small interruption occurs behind Sonic.exe, which causes him to drop Knuckles. Something pink is holding on to Sonic.exe.
"I finally got you Sonic~" a pink hedgehog glomped Sonic.exe from behind, and unaware that she is glomping the false Sonic, she snuggles him happily, "You thought you can run away from Amy Rose, don't you Sonic? Sonic can hear Amy's scream from the distance. He performs the speed boost to get closer. There he finds fainted Amy and the hopeless Knuckles.
"What the--?!" Knuckles sees Sonic coming in the scene, "...!!!!!" Then he realized that the Sonic he encountered is actually Sonic.exe!!!
"Unless you want to avoid a good ol' fashioned beating..." Sonic calls Sonic.exe out, "Let my friend go right now!"

Suddenly, Mario, Sonic, and Amy's vision are blanketed by darkness for a moment. When it cleared up...the fake and Knuckles are gone!
"Oh, I don't think so," Sonic.exe stated plainly. "She's quite the boon for my plan, you see - oh! Not that I'll tell you what all's up! Now then..."

"Hm, yes..." Mario said, checking Amy. "You think she didn't have anything in common with-a his previous victims?"
"'Fraid not! She's not special like Princess Peach." Sonic replied. Before he can continue the conversation, he hears Amy as she regains her consciousness. "Amy! Are you alright?"
"Uhh... wh--EEEEEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!" Amy panicked and took out her Piko Piko Hammer. She slams Sonic down on the ground repeatedly out of her anger and fear. "Don't you ever do that again, Sonic! How could you scare a girl like that!!"
Sonic is moaning and twitching in pain.
