Ariana's parents were very much in love when they got married. Her father never really wanted children, but her mother wanted a child very much, and he wanted to make her happy. Unfortunately, she died giving birth to Ariana. Ariana thinks that her dad still hasn't stopped grieving for his lost wife and the baby he never really wanted. Her dad was a reasonably wealthy man, so Ariana was almost immediately dumped onto a nanny. The few interractions she has had with him have been either cold and clinical, or devastating, especially once she was eleven and he fired the nanny. Her dad has a habit of drinking too much on occaision, and though she knows he would never in a million years lay a hand on her, he can say some really hurtful things when he's drunk, mostly about the fact that she killed her own mother. She isn't close at all with her father, though she has always been obsessed with pleasing him, leading her to be very quiet, shy, and obsessed with her grades.

Her one bright spot in life has been her friends, who she loves more than anyone else in the world, even more than her father, and her music. She began playing piano when she was very young, to make her father happy, at about four, and started with the guitar at the age of eight. Now, she's started to break out from under her father's opressive hold, with her friends' help, and is eager to see where their band can go. She writes her own music on the guitar and piano, and does her share of songwriting as well, although she's very insecure about those and doesn't share all of them.

She got the nickname Grey during elementary school, because she had such a weak stomach and was slightly spoiled on her nanny's gormet cooking and was constangly going grey at the processed cafeteria food. She still have a bit of a weak stomach and has been a vegetarian since she was nine years old and one of her guy friends showed her a video of what actually goes on in meat processing plants.
