Introduction
No, I just HAD to be different. He muttered angrily as he slowly stood back up. Bones creaked and cracked back into place and any signs of blood were dried up and healed without a trace. Literally, Derek was invincible. He looked up at the incomplete skyscraper that he had just plummeted from, and down at the human sized crater in the concrete that he had just pulled himself out of.
"What kind of person can survive a 50 story drop into solid ground? A freak. That's who." Derek sighed and walked to the fence of the construction site, grabbing his messenger bag and slinging the strap across his shoulder. But New York City was a place full of freaks, right? I mean, Spiderman, in his movies, could basically be a circus act and it would be authentic. Doc Oc had robotic tentacles-- Okay, those were actually pretty fucking sweet. But, thankfully, Derek was not alone.
He had been Google searching for cases like his (ones of inhuman abilities), and there were hundreds other with similar abilities! A whole message board of them! He grabbed his phone and went over the list for reassurance.
Some had some really cool names and others.... well, they weren't the worst.
- Immortals-- They were the ones like Derek. Invincible until the brain was cut out. Incredible healing powers for non-fatal wounds, and complete resistance to the fatal ones.
- Combusters-- They had control over heat. Heat waves, fire, etc. They could literally cause someone to randomly burst into flames.
- Sub-Zeroes-- The opposites of combusters. They had anything to do with sheer cold and ice. Some even wrote and posted videos of them showing off their powers (including one guy turning an entire semi truck brittle with his frost touch and another causing it to randomly snow in July.
- Mob Bosses-- Basically democrats. They could create a mob mentality at will and influence others to do what they want. The ones with stronger minds would be able to resist the calling, but those with weaker minds than the Mob Bosses ended up doing things that could possibly be illegal if they got caught.
- Stalkers-- These were the huntsmen of the group. These people could hear and smell better than most, and once they got a whiff of a scent, they could literally see the scent before them.
- Lightning Rods-- The pretty much coolest powers out of all of them. Those that could call themselves Lightning Rods can take as much electricity as they wanted and dish out as much as they have in their body out as a weapon, or use the stored energy in small bursts. The reason for calling them Lightning Rods and not Batteries (or something else pretty clever) is because in an electrical storm, they have to avoid open air or they will be overloaded with electricity from lightning constantly hitting them.
- Elementals-- Those with the ability to use one of four natural elements to heal anyone. The rarer the element, the more powerful the heal. Honestly, Derek never liked this power set. It seemed useful, yes, but also pretty boring. Though, this one message board in the forum talked about this one man having discovered a secret power of the Elementals, but he wouldn't share what it was.
- Illusionists-- The last of the listed power sets (people talked about how there were hundreds more possibilities, but these were the most common amongst the people). Illusionists can trick the senses. Even the sense of reality. Dirty, but sadly, the 50ft basilisk that roamed New York City's streets two weeks ago did no physical damage due to the fact that none of it was real.
