Personality:
If a heavily outgoing and kind personality does not annoy you, then you will find it very hard to dislike Takeru. From the very first time you meet him, you will experience a chumminess most people only display towards their friends and a sense of humor a lot of people seem to miss nowadays. He makes friends with almost everybody he meets and, unless you really try, never seems to get upset. He easily forgives and would rather forget anything bad happened so long as there was hope for a fun tomorrow, it's the kind of guy he is. Simply apologizing is more than enough to get him to forgive you for just about everything in the world. Takeru is kindhearted as well. He has a soft spot for woman (crying being a particular weakness) and in general, he's open to help people if they need it, expecting nothing in return.
But he's not entirely without fault. Takeru's a bit of a pervert at times, although he keeps it to himself mostly. He likes to see life as a visual novel, and will mentally comment on just about everything happening around him as if it were part of the game he's playing. He's an otaku, but far from antisocial as well. However, he has a much easier time talking up a nerdy storm than anything else.
Background:
A common assumption people make about Takeru on the subject of his past is that he grew up to a family who was at least moderately wealthy - enough so that their son could slack off and play games whenever he wished. However, this assumption is very, very wrong.
Takeru was born to a very poor family who became even more so when there was an extra mouth to feed. Babies are not cheap things to take care of, and on top of responsibility, money was needed to afford the things to properly care for them. Or so his father had told him. Takeru was never in imminent danger of starving, nor did he particularly resent the fact that he always go the popular toy that his friends got months after it had become an obsolete trend. He simply just lived life while looking forward to each day he lived. He was a very optimistic person from the beginning.
Consoles were not the cheapest things to purchase, so by the time the newest Xbox came out, Takeru was sure he'd have to wait quite a while to play with anybody else who had owned one. Although he absolutely loved the games he got to play when hanging around with a friend at their house, he knew such desires could not be satisfied, so he looked for something else to do. Books were a common suggestion. Takeru tried reading normal books, like the books that his father and mother read when they had time off of work. But those were so boring! Sure, there was suspense, but it took too damn long for anything great to happen, and all it was was words! So, he found himself some manga and got fairly addicted to that. Call him immature for reading a book with pictures, but it's just what he liked. This is what he entertained himself with for the majority of his life.
When things started looking up financially, Takeru was about 13 years old. He was an active boy for the most part, running and playing with friends outside and returning home to read another chapter, and repeating this course for a while after. But one day, his 14th birthday to be exact, Takeru received his own computer! ...and that's when he got addicted to visual novels. It was like a TV show and a manga mixed! How sweet! He shut himself in his room a bit more than he should have after that point and only further addicted himself to them.
And honestly, nothing particularly important happened for the longest time. Not that anything before then had. He's always lived a simple life. Sure, he was less fortunate than most for the longest time, but that never brought up any real drama. If one could take a guess why he enjoyed visual novels and games so much when he got them finally, it could be that he really anticipated experiencing them and was overjoyed when he was finally allowed to.
Either way, Takeru may have a boring story behind him, but the man himself is far from such. No recluse is he, but he can be nerdy when he wishes. Takeru currently takes jobs from family friends every weekend, as well as works as a cashier in a video store. But when not on duty, you'll often find him in a cafe, relaxing.
