Full Name: Julian Michael Norris
Nickname: Often he gets āJulesā though heās not overly fond of it. He doesnāt understand why names always have to be shortened.
Age: Twenty-Two
Birthdate: July 12
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Apartment Number: 2C
Occupation: Studying Business at College, majoring in Accounting. Works part-time at a small video store a few blocks away.
Likes: + Questioning things and sourcing knowledge. He has a vast wealth of general knowledge and loves knowing as much as he can about everything. Even if the facts may seem completely pointless to anybody else.
+ Order and logic. Things need to make sense to Julian. He gets frustrated at anything he cannot work out or rationalize.
+ Good Film. He considers himself a bit of a film buff. Anyone would be forgiven for assuming it is his only real passion.
+ Peace and quiet. Not all the time, but he loves having the option of retreating and spending some thinking time alone. Sometimes his surroundings just get too noisy and overbearing.
+ Good coffee and good food. Unfortunately neither of which you can find at The Mighty Bean Cafe.
Dislikes: - Laziness and slovenly behavior. Anytime someone neglects to clean up after themselves or ācanāt be botheredā putting something back the way it was, it really grates on Julian.
- Tardiness. As someone who is so structured and deliberate in his movements, he canāt stand when people donāt even make an effort to be somewhere at the agreed time.
- The sound of people chewing. Another pet peeve that really grates on Julian and drives him crazy. He will often leave the room abruptly without explanation if he can hear someone eating.
- Any lack of respect shown towards people or their belongings, no matter how big or small a deal it may seem. āItās the principle of the thing.ā
- Discussing his OCD behavior. Most who have known him for some time are aware of it but they like to push the envelope sometimes, possibly not completely aware of just how much he dislikes talking about it.
- Small talk. He loves intelligent, deep conversation, and any talk about facts and figures, but you can forget small talk altogether. He absolutely hates talking about himself in any fashion.
Julian has a tendency to come across as quite intense. He doesnāt mean to, he is just a very deliberate person who rarely wastes words, using a very direct approach to most situations, and refuses to tread on eggshells around others just to save face. If something needs to be said, heās the guy to just come right out and say it. He suffers from anxiety and mild OCD, which certainly does not reduce his apparent intensity levels.
Julian lacks a lot of confidence and seems unsure of himself a lot of the time. He doesnāt like the spotlight, either. Heās quite happy in the background, and is easily embarrassed if anyone makes a fuss over him. He is no good at taking a compliment. Despite his rough outer shell, Julian is a very friendly, well-meaning guy. He may not always be able to show it, but he isnāt as cold or distant as his compulsions may have him appear. It just takes some time, and effort, to get to really know him beyond whatās on the surface.
Julian never wanted to study business, and certainly not major in accounting. He always found the subjects rather boring, but he is a very intelligent individual and breezes through them. Besides, as his mother said when he finished school - āJulian, you need a degree to find work these days, and everything is about business. It just makes sense to get yourself into the Worldās biggest industry.ā He assumed she was right, not aware of whether or not she actually knew what she was talking about. So he decided he would follow logic and the āsafeā bet and put himself on a sure path to employment, completely neglecting his happiness in the process; a decision that he would soon regret. Of course, Julian always finishes what he starts, so dropping out to pursue something of greater interest has never been an option he would indulge. Besides, he is fantastic with numbers, so he would undoubtedly make a very successful accountant if he continued on this path.
As far as Julianās anxiety and OCD is concerned, it could probably be traced back to not so long after his parents divorced when he was 14. He was always a quiet kid, more of a thinker than a doer, and perhaps he spent a little too much time with his intense thought processes. He is largely self-aware, and being what he would label as a well-read individual, he has even taken to, for every meal, eating foods rich in the amino acid tryptophan, which the body converts to serotonin. All because OCD has been linked to low levels of serotonin in the brain. It hasnāt seemed to make a difference, but as with most of Julianās habits, it is one that he is unlikely to shake.
