The sound of seagulls and the crashing waves against the rocks these are the things that Anahita hears every day of every summer. Anahita dangled her feet over the edge of the pool her feet making ripples form across the water. A sigh escapes her lips as she sits there waitng for the man that said he loved her for a wedding that never came so on and so forth. "There you are I was worried I wouldn't find you!" said a cheerful voice that made Anahita turn to with a light smile "sorry about that I get lost in my own thoughts. It was her friend Nira they were neighbors after she was adopted and Nira just took to her immediately. Nira sat next to her dear friend passing her a cold ice cream it was chocolate mint Anahita smiled taking the ice cream cone and tasting a bit of it quickly. "Wow that's good" she said her voice cheerful Nira shook her head, "So why were you staring out at the ocean for hoping to find a mer-person?" she said teasingly. Anahita shook her head "No just thinking of the past again" she said with a heavy sigh. Nira placed her hands on her hips "Ana you can't do this to yourself anymore you were kids you honestly didn't think he was goning to marry you did you?" she asked her, her tone serious and full of worry. Ana seeing the tension in her friend just smiled and shook her head and lied "No no nothing like that I just wish I knew more about my past is all" she said knowing full well what and who she was. She loved Nira so but knew that it would only be trouble for her to tell someone else her tale. It's what she did when she was first found and it had brought her nothing in return.

The waves crash agaisnt the shore Ana walks lonely and cold along the beach ever so often tripping over her new feet. Small tears streak her pale cheek her red hair flowing down her face all in a mess. It had been a lady who found her which also soon enough became her new mom she was a sweet lady her husband was a nice guy and they treated her wonderful. But it took them a year to understand that her people the Mer-people were a myth here that humans thought that her people were just lore but she knew what she was she was a mermaid and she would always be one deep down. And ever year ever summer she spent her days by the shore looking for the boy that promised to love her but her never came.

Ana smiled at her friend "So where are we going tonight" she asked trying to clear her mind. Nira made a face that said unhappy news was on the way "I kinda have to work"she said groaning. Ana smiled "well then I guess I will have to find some fun elsewhere then won't I" she said teasingly to Nira. Nira waved it off "Yea yea that's nice miss I don't need a job" she said poking back "Well I would love to chat some more but my paycheck is calling" she said with a smile and so the girls parted leaving Ana alone. The sun began to set as the first day of summer approached Ana looked up at the sky looking for the first star "I wish he would come back" she wished silently too the first star of the evening.

"And what if I do come back miss fish tail?" Caliban said from the shadows that he liked to pop out of on ocassion. He remembered the day he met Ana, which wasn't hard for him to do. It replayed in his mind over the years. Caliban wondered often how she was, but since he couldn't break from the nagging bitch that wanted him from the the first time she saw him till to night, he settled for the unanswered. Coming out of the shadows, he says in tone that spoke of the past, "Long time no see, chica."

Ana froze her thoughts exploded within her the voice was different but she had never spoken to anyone about the name he had once teased her with. Ana couldn't help but mouth the poor nickname her dark eyes looking over him her eyes unsure of the person before her. She had wished a thousand times and not once had he ever appeared but yet here he was before her. She was speechless to say the most "It can't be you?" she said more to herself then to him her hands gently pushing herself up from the wood dock. "Caliban?" she said in confusion as she looked at him. "Long time no more like ages" she said her tone a little said a hint of hurt in it. She wasn't sure how to feel, what to feel she was a mess of emotions inside. She prayed it didn't look that way on the outside. She took a small step towards him before she retreated once again her unsureness covering her features.

"Yeah, it's me, sorry it took me so long to get but had to get away from a nagging bitch that thinks I'm marring her. Chance in Atlantis that's happening, since last I checked, my heart was with you." he says almost chuckling it out evilfully. Looking at her he says, stepping closer and rolling his head, "Looks like having legs works for you. So how have you Ana?" Goiing and leaning on a railing, he stared out in port, remembering that summer.

Ana wasn't sure how to react towards him her frame slightly shook from her nervousness, he was so easy going about everything. Ana tried to even out her breathing being upset was going to get her nothing, she let out a sigh as he looked out over the port. "So she's what a stalker?" she asked some what puzzled as his words not fully grasping the situation. "And as far as my legs are concerned well I got use to them" she said looking down at them her white skirt moving every slightly with the shore wind. Ana moved to the railing her hands feeling the old woods cracks and crevices "So why did you wait so long to come back? you could have even sent a letter" she said her dark eyes looking over at him. The pier lights started to light up over the walkway one flickering on above them. Ana took another breath trying to calm herself.

"No, just clingy and so not my type. I was busy with other things and I couldn't think of anything to write. " he says, as turned and cupped her cheek. He had missed her, a lot and most of the time he was daydreaming about her. "But I'm here now and I've missed you terribly. I was hoping you felt the same."

Ana suddenly felt the warmth of his hands on her cheeks which he cupped gently her eyes couldn't help but soften at his touch. "Just to be clear I am mad at you, but I guess I'll forgive you just this once" she said her tone soft like silk. Her hands released the wooded rail her hands moving to his writs moving one hand to her pink lips which she kissed gently. "I did miss you , you idiot its just hard on a girl to wait so long" she said as she looked up at him gently. "So what happens now?" she asked unsure of his thoughts and plans.

"Well, considering that we haven't been together in years and that your favorite things might have changed since that summer, I think a date is in order. Don't you agree?" he says, feeling sorta lightheaded, but better than he had been hours before. Putting her arms around his shoulders, Caliban wrapped his around and grinned. 'I'm going to catch hell, but I don't give a fuck.' he thought, resting his head on her shoulder.

Ana could feel the weight of hes head on her shoulder she was surprised at his closeness it made her feel warm and secure, she couldn't help the small smile that crept over her lips. "Yea that would be true so where to where to go?" she said the last part to herself as she gently tapped her fingers along her cheek. With a light gasp and a sudden rush of lightness Ana knew just where to go, "There is a fair nearby, its a small local one but I haven't been yet" she said her gaze turning to Caliban. "So what do you say wanna be my date?" she said with a playful grin, she was beginning to relax with Caliban like how she had felt with him when they were kids.

"Sure." he replied, backing up and pulling a necklace from his pocket. Holding it up, Caliban grinned and said, "I made this a while back for you. I want you to wear it." The necklace wasn't much, just a small length of chain with dragon/mermaid pendent on it.

Ana looked down at the small chain the pendant hanging from it gently, the coolness of the metal touching her neck gently she blushed gently. "Thank you its very nice" she said shyly looking up at him. Taking in a breath trying to regain her senses she gently escaped his touch and smiled warmly "come on the fair isn't far from here we can walk there" she said motioning him over with her slender hand.

"After you." he said, even though started in the direction . As the town girls saw him, they stopped and stared. Their mouths open gaping and he not noticing it. Placing his hands in his pockets, Caliban sighed as he felt a tingle go up his back, 'Damn, can't I just get a break?' he thought with an irratated sigh.

And so with that Ana nodded gently, she caught the stares of the girls she knew most of them. Ana couldn't help the feeling of relief fill her as he didn't notice them. Hearing the sigh from him Ana exchanged a confused look with him. They had reached the gates of the Fair her gaze locked on him. Her hands reaching up to cup his face gently. "You know your alot more gloomy now then back then" she said looking at him gently. The warmness coming from him all of sudden made her very conscious of herself and so she released him from her touch with a smile. "So food or ride first? cause I am up for either" she said her tone light hearted.

"Yeah well when you been through the numberous hells I have, it tends change your outlook on life afterwards." he said when Ana cupped his face. Which was nice, untill she let go. With an inward sigh, Caliban replied, "I'm following you, so where you go, I go."

A light smile covered her lips as she looked at Caliban, her hand encasing his with hers. "Well I guess we can work up an appetite" she said looking around at the many rides. Seeing the Ferris wheel moving in its usual pattern it seemed like the perfect place to just talk so with out another thought Ana gently pulled Caliban behind her. "So things have been hard have they?" she asked her eye's cast down. "Things were not easy at first for me when you left but they got easier in time and I adjusted over time" she said as she gently swayed her white skirt moving with her. "Do you mind if I asked what happened?" she asked no longer able to hold back her curiosity.

"Just got myself dragged in to others' wars, brawls, fights, and crap of that sort.." he replied, shaking off other thoughts that clouded his head. Squeezing her hand softly, Caliban looked away as he added, "I choose not to dwell on it."

Ana nodded a small smile crossing her smile "Bad boy were you?" she teasingly. Finally it was there turn and Ana carefully climbed inside the small container her gaze at the window that looked out over the small town that she had come to love and learned to call home. "How is your family?" she asked her head tilted gently. A flash of memories caressed her mind she had seen his mother once she had his under the pier when she came looking for Caliban. She remembered her scolding him a smile crossed her lips at the memory.

"Some would say that." Caliban said as he got in. Sitting down, he leaned his head back and sighed. "Don't know, haven't talked to them since I left home." Mainly because he never was a big talker about what he was feeling.

A slight frown covered Ana's pink lips "Well why would you not speak to them they are your parents" she said concern on her features. Ana neared the window her hands on the glass the fair and small town sparkled below them. Ana laughed lightly "I wouldn't have pegged you for a bad boy when we were little" she said remembering there time together. "Does it feel different speaking to me know then when we were little?" she asked her gaze at his eyes. She wasn't sure how to feel anymore. was she too succumb to her old feelings for him or were they supposed to be different.

"Been busy and to in my own head to take time to chat or write." he says, knowing that was lying to himself. While the harden soldier persona has taken over in past three years, his softer one had still shown itself in way that his superiors had noted. "Time changes people Ana, you know that. Sometimes it's happen very quickly or slower." Looking at her, his feeling hadn't changed much from that summer, other than that have morphed into love and they giving naughty thoughts most nights. "Not really, but I know that what I feel for you is stronger than they were when we met."
