Description

Aleksa Kinova

Full Name
Aleksa Minerva Kinova

Nick/Petname(s)
One does not simply refer to Aleksa in such a familiar manner.

Title(s)/Epithet(s)
The Silver Hand

Gender
Female

Age
Twenty-six

Sexuality
Such personal details she keeps under wraps, although if she's off to marry a prince then surely she's interested in men.

Occupation/Position(s)
Ruler of Austron

Nationality
Hails from the nation of Austron.

Appearance
Aleksa stands at five feet and nine inches, with a particularly slender build that has a few gentle curves in the right places. She has pale blue eyes and short brown hair, with rather tomboyish facial features that contrast with her otherwise feminine appearance, even going as far as eschewing a dress in favour of wearing the uniform of her Royal Artificers, complete with trousers. Her right forearm has been replaced by a beautifully crafted mechanical prosthetic, the silver hand that she is known by.

Personality
A quiet and contemplative woman, Aleksa easily keeps up the image that is expected of her as a ruler of one of the more respected nations. Despite this aloofness she is still experienced in carefully analysing those around her and using that knowledge to her advantage.

Aleksa is deeply proud of her roots, and takes her role as ruler very seriously. Her kingdom's artificers are well known for their skill, and Aleksa does what she can to foster that image, even taking up the craft herself. She is willing to put the needs of her country above her own, and would be prepared to trade away her hand in marriage if it meant seeing Austron flourish.

Equipment
That artificer uniform of hers boasts more pockets than any dress, and as such it holds a fair few small tools and spare parts, enough to perform some maintenance work on her hand if the need arises.

History
House Kinova has ruled the cold Northern land of Austron for centuries, which has been renowned for its mines and smithies. Ever since the start of the industrial revolution, however, it also garnered a reputation for having the greatest inventors and artificers in the realm. As technology continued to march on, House Kinova itself adopted a more progressive mindset, much to the chagrin of several nobles within the royal court who would rather have the spent money go to line their pockets than those of the commoners. This led to the assassination of Aleksa's father almost a year ago, leaving her as the sole heir to the throne.

Not long after, an attempt had been made on her own life by one of the palace guards, who had been in league with the nobles. The princess survived, although in the ensuing battle for her very life she lost part of her right arm. Once the conspirators had been identified, Aleksa had little choice but to have them executed for treason. As for the issue of having only one-and-a-half arms left, the royal artificers worked in collaboration with her to design a new forearm, which quickly became a symbol of her rule not long after its installation.

When word of the royal ball in Valade reached Austron, Aleksa decided to go in the hope that the prince would be a better person to marry than some of the suitors she had to put up with back in Austron.

So begins...

Aleksa and her entourage entered the city rather discreetly, in an automobile lacking the heraldry of House Kinova, although the design was clearly one from Austron. Naturally, it took some time to get through the city gates, but it was well worth it to evade the eyes of potential spies and such. Once they reached the gates of the castle itself, they were halted by the guards stationed there.

"Please state your business," one of the guards said. "Dignitaries from Austron, eh?"

"Close," replied Aleksa, taking off her brooch and showing it to the guard. A brooch bearing the royal crest of House Kinova. To his credit, the man retained his composure. "V-very well, you may pass."

"Thank you, guardsman," she said as the gate was opened to allow her passage. Once the automobile had been parked, the Silver Hand and her retinue disembarked. Four members of her Iron Guard, each one clad in a blue-grey uniform and armed with a revolver, accompanied the ruler of Austron as bodyguards to ensure her safety on foreign soil. While waiting for the prince to arrive, Aleksa spotted a small group of what appeared to be foreign soldiers within the castle grounds, none with the uniform of Valade's own troops. She decided to keep her distance for now. There was ample opportunity to talk later...

Once it seemed that all of the attending parties were present within the castle grounds, a servant called them all in to the Grand Parlour to meet with the heir who would be choosing his future bride from among their number. The first princess to be introduced turned out to be the leader of the group of soldiers Aleksa saw outside, and the woman in question hailed from Shurete. Odd that she seemed better equipped to storm the prince's battlements than to win his heart. Making a mental note to keep an eye on that woman, Aleksa stepped forward as her name was called out next by the herald, still flanked by her Iron Guard.

"Aleksa Kinova, Sovereign of Austron. A pleasure to meet you, Your Highness," she introduced herself politely, offering her flesh-and-blood hand to the prince. "Whatever the outcome of this venture, may the both of us live long and prosper."

George's mind wandered. How much longer? Maybe if I fall asleep, I won't have to greet anyone else, he thought wryly.

"Introducing Her Majesty, Aleksa Minerva Kinova of Austron, the Silver Hand, Queen of Austron," the herald bellowed.

An elegant woman, wearing what seemed to be some sort of uniform, walked in. Dark hair, light cerulean eyes, and a graceful bearing.

"Aleksa Kinova, Sovereign of Austron. A pleasure to meet you, Your Highness. Whatever the outcome of this venture, may the both of us live long and prosper."

"The pleasure is all mine," he replied, smiling and taking her hand. He'd heard much about the land of Austron, known for its famous artificers. Valade wasn't as renowned for its mechanical prowess, but George was personally fascinated with artificing and mechanics in general. He'd also heard much about the woman who ruled in the northern country.

"I hope your journey went well. I hope to speak with you again at the ball." George was oddly curious about the dignified ruler.

He nodded to the servant waiting by the door. "Sam, could you lead Queen Kinova to her quarters?" He turned back to the princess and bowed again. "Thank you."

Oh my. Quite the turn up of nobility just to meet the king, well... the would-be king, so supposedly Miranda had misinformed the blockhead guard about who she had an appointment with. Actually, she wasn't entirely sure about that herself. 'Meh. King. Prince. They're all the same high-horse people, aren't they?', probably. Miranda never quite understood the difference, not that she ever cared to remember.

Still, quite the turn up.

Amber eyes carefully inspected the cultural manifestation of queens and princesses out in the back. Daunting, for sure, and Miranda felt that they'd think her a vagabond. And she had picked out her best suit too. This one only had eight tears total. (and she had been especially cautious to blow off all the cobwebs) Such grace was unheard of from madam Crackpot! Hmm, observations had to suffice until proper introductions were made. Besides, she didn't want to mess up on the first day. That'd be most dramatic.

So the professor stood back a bit, careful not to let her tardiness distract the pompous entourage of suitors eagerly waiting to take a bite out of prince charming while she shamelessly judged them from afar as they sauntered into the castle.

Her pondering gaze first fell, predictably enough, on the one lady (if you could even call it that) towering above the others like some sore, muscular thumb it was difficult not to notice her. 'Snow White's turned huntsman, how utterly... terrifying.' If you're into that. And something told Miranda that the prince would prefer a more delicate appearance, rather than a punch in the gut for breakfast. Definitely opened an enticing debate on who'd wear the trousers in that marriage.

A stifled chuckle broke the neutral expression. The thought that this colossal woman was a potential suitor for the prince had amused her, when Miranda briefly pictured the proud Amazon in a frilly wedding dress before the altar.

A hilarious result to be sure, but unlikely.

Next up came a more traditional and dignified character, certainly unique in her presence but ethically pleasing in the eyes of noble circles. Miranda joyfully recalled the young woman's attire to be representative of Austron artificers, a country she had the honour of visiting once. Learn from the best her uncle always said, and where else would you find a more technologically oriented culture?

“The Silver Hand, was it? How nice to make your indirect acquaintance.” The professor's eyes fell on the mechanical limb that the Austron ruler so proudly displayed without shame. 'Tsk, tsk, tsk... Where is the subtlety in that now?' Miranda glared at the woman with an almost obsessive grin, she certainly found the current line up an interesting bunch. Perhaps she'd find entertainment in this charade after all.

The other two, quite frankly, weren't all that spectacular. Not that modesty was wrong, but... you know, eccentricity is the spice of life (or so the saying goes). She did remember a few impressions, like 'Sunhat sure has spunk' and 'Entourage, eh. Going solo, potentially dangerous, but obviously no fussy mothers around to bother you.'. The rest was already accounted for, and had gained Miranda's... so-so interest to actually stay when offered more than plenty.

That said, after the higher class had introduced themselves and drooled all over the poor, poor prince, it was time for the lesser caste to make acquaintances. Well, not that Miranda wasn't nobility (in some countries she still was), but fate decreed that she had given up the official title not too long ago.

“Presenting, Lady Li-” An oaken cane encrusted with black paint gently prodded the herald, a slim finger pressed against her lips as she hushed his words.

“Tut-tut-tut. Spare your breath, dear. The likes of me don't need no introduction, and if the prince has forgotten about little old me? All the more reason to remain silent, yes?” The woman feigned a poor man's Cheshire grin before once again allowing the cane to press against the floorboard as she shambled towards the, apparently, 'bored out of his eye-sockets' prince. They were by no means friends, but Miranda had the pleasure of spending ample hours engaging in intriguing chatter with the Lancaster boy back when she served the royal family. So it went without saying that they, at the very least, were no strangers to one another.

“The gall of some servants... Preposterous, don't you think?” Miranda began, stifling a laugh before she put a halt to her limp-walk only a mere inches away from the carrot boy; A single hand removing the old tophat, prompting the woman's wild hair to literally spring upward into an even messier arrangement.

“Georgie!” So unorthodox. “I'd say how nice to see you again, but chances are you've completely erased my existence from your memories. Royalty tends to disdain my presence, apparently. Weird.” Her thoughts dwindled for a moment, before she creatively added; “Oh, right. I'm ecstatic to attend the coming ball. I will be on my best behaviour while I reside in your humble home... Your Lordship.”

With another pause for breath, Miranda ominously leaned in closer to George. “Psst, you don't happen to know where your father is, do you? I was actually supposed to see him, but I couldn't resist sneaking a peak at your ball and chains to-be.”

Led by the crown prince's servant, Aleksa was able to find the quarters assigned to herself and her retinue for the duration of their stay here. There was enough space for all five of them, and even a separate room for a noble to sleep in privacy. Given Valade's geographical location, it was not unreasonable to assume that their royal family was accustomed to entertaining guests, particularly foreign dignitaries. Now that she knew where she was going to be sleeping, Aleksa decided to have a look around the palace for a bit, get to know the layout and all that.

"Peter, Victor, retrieve the luggage from the automobile," she commanded, the two guards in question saluting and leaving the room. "Ivan and Freya, you will come with me." The younger members of Aleksa's entourage were at her side without hesitation, eager to accompany their monarch as she left to explore the castle grounds.

When Victor and Peter returned to their mistress' room with her luggage, they were greeted by the sight of the other potential brides engaged in what appeared to be a standoff further down the corridor. Taking care not to disturb the little dispute, the pair of them shifted the luggage inside Aleksa's room, quietly closing the door behind them while they awaited her return.

Meanwhile, Aleksa's travels around the royal home of Valade eventually brought her, Freya and Ivan to the gardens, during which she had managed to figure out a potential escape route in the event of a fire, or even... aggressive negotiations. The trio's walking pace had slowed to a casual stroll at this point as they took the time to enjoy the scenery and the outside air.

They stopped when they heard voices up ahead, one of them being that of the prince. Turned out he was talking with someone very familiar to him. A close friend, perhaps. It was good to have ones who were trustworthy, Aleksa thought to herself as she and her bodyguards maintained a respectful distance from the prince and his associate, allowing their conversation to run its course. With none of the other suitors in sight, perhaps the Silver Hand would be able to get a chance to speak with the prince of Valade in private before the ball started.

"...hmpf! Met the aspiring queens yet? Any preference? Or "imposed" preferences?" said Gerard, grinning mischievously.

George rolled his eyes, unable to help the smirk. "No preferences yet. I've only been introduced to a few. Though I have met a few interesting people. The leaders of Austron and Shurete, the crown princesses of Pennyhill and Tessar, to name a few." He paused, running through the mental list of visitors. "Oh! And Lady Livingston is in attendance, as well. Have you met her?"

The prince noticed movement from the corner of his eye. He turned to see an elegant woman accompanied by two bodyguards. Aleksa Kinova of Austron, if he wasn't mistaken. George looked back to his friend. It would be rude to simply ignore the leader--and guest of another country.

He stepped forward and bowed in the lady's direction. "Your Majesty," he said, loud enough to be hard but soft enough to be polite. "It is a pleasure to see you again." George proceeded to introduce his closest friend. "This is Ser Gerard Adair, from the Rochdale province of Valade. Gerard, this is the Queen of Austron, Aleksa Kinova."

George smiled. "Are you enjoying the gardens?" Valade's royal gardens were quite famous. His country's climate was mild enough for most plants, and the seasons were fairly temperate.

Gerard's mind scrolled through the names, or better, titles that George listed, tilting his head."Hey,- he took a brief sigh - not that names are gonna explain who bears it!" The unwanted guest folded his hands behind him, following the protagonist of the evening.

"Huh, Livingston you said? Wish it would ring a bell, though it usually gets rusty, this bell." Gerard knocked his temple lightly "Plus, where the heck is Shurete to begin with? And what kind of name is Pennyhill!" Gerard chuckled again, winking his left eye while descreetly poking the Prince with his elbow "Anyhow! Tangent!" He started off, only to notice that Will had turned toward quite an austere, awe-inspiring woman. She...wasn't exactly what Gerard would have expected from a lady coming from faraway to court one of the most influential men of the whole world, not by a long shot... "Queen of Austron, eh?" Gerard smirked and bowed his head: "It is my pleasure to meet such a prestigious lady." Gerard replied and looked around once again "Call me Jelly by the way." He added, smiling childishly while adjusting his cravat.

Although the prince did not seem to mind too much, Aleksa still couldn't help but feel that she was probably intruding. The Silver Hand bowed politely to the man George introduced as Ser Gerard Adair, her two bodyguards following suit. "The gardens here are quite lovely, yes. Certainly better than my own." Since Austron's climate was colder in comparison to that of Valade, it made growing plants for ornamental gardens very difficult. No, the wonders of Aleksa's palace lay elsewhere.

When Gerard spoke, and told Aleksa to simply call him Jelly, the princess actually showed confusion for a brief moment before regaining her composure. "...I'd rather not, thank you," she replied warily. As first impressions went, this was probably not the greatest of introductions. Maybe this Gerard was just playing dumb? Regardless, she would have to spend a little more time in his company if she wanted to find out for sure.
