Class Information

ImageSpecialty:
Venide Knight

Affinity:
Faustian

Element:
Unknown

Skills:
Like all Venide Knights, he possesses very few magical abilities, which are compensated for in the form of his extraordinary direct combat skills; thusly, his abilities are largely focused upon augmenting his close combat power or neutralising the abilities of more skilled magi. His only truly powerful spell is Time Alter; the remainder are largely last resorts or minor augmentations to his standard abilities.

Spell List:
Time Alter - A rare spell, considered a curiosity to most magi, save for the elite Venide Knights, for whom this spell is their trump card. This spell allows for the time around the user's body to be inherently altered at the basest level; the most common form is by doubling the flow of time, making the rest of reality 'halve' in speed. This ability is devastating in close combat, but comes at a high price - even by Venide Knights, who are exceptionally well-trained in its use, it can only be used for a very brief period of time before the strain upon the user's body becomes too great. Most humans lack the reflexes required to use this spell efficiently;
Shockwave - A simplistic spell that many magi are trained in, it simply releases a blast of raw energy in all directions, destroying or throwing back all nearby. Some magi are sufficiently skilled in it as to be able to level an entire city block - Samael is not one of these. As his training in magic is limited, he is only able to project the blast to within a small location. However, he can direct the energy in one location, allowing for short-range bursts of movement, usually to avoid incoming attacks.
Fire Blade - An unusual ability that is primarily used by mages who prefer close combat, this takes the form of channeling fire down the blade of a melee weapon, increasing its effectiveness significantly in close quarters.
Telekinesis - Possibly the most common spell used by magi, Samael has little practice using it and struggles to lift even a human being, let alone anything larger.

EquipmentImage
TRX-70E 'Abyss' Powered Assault Armour - One of the most powerful and expensive weapons ever designed, the 'Abyss' armour is a triumph of Babylonian engineering. Developed by Venide corporation to equip the elite 'Monster Squad' units, it utilises artificial carbon nanotube muscle structures to massively augment its user's strength and speed. Designed specifically to combat demons, its advanced neural circuits reduce the delay between the user's movements and the armour's movements to a matter of nanoseconds; however, for this reason, it is unable to be utilised by standard humans, instead requiring the significant cybernetic augmentations to pilot it at maximum capacity. The armour used by the Knights is unique; the standard silver-blue paint of the Monster Squad is replaced by a matte-black stealth coating, the white highlights replaced with a burning crimson - a sight that strikes fear into even demons.

Thaumiel - All Venide Knights are equipped with a given weapon for slaying demons, and Samael is no different. His blade is Thaumiel, an arcane, divine greatsword crafted in an age lost to humankind. Named for the destructive Qilphoth, its occult power is immeasurable, and it is capable of slaying powerful demons with ease, as well as being able to cleave through almost any physical object. A massive zweihander-type weapon that reaches almost five and a half feet long, it weighs far more than any blade of its size should, requires the enormous strength of a fully-armoured Venide Knight to wield it effectively. However, he rarely carries it into battle.
Other - Samael possesses a vast array of firearms, which he usually regards as disposable; it is not unheard-of for him to take several into battle, only to discard them during combat. He is a proficient marksman and demolitionist; they serve as his primary means of direct combat, and he has a great ruthlessness, willing to use a wide variety of underhanded tactics to kill mages and demons alike; instead of coming up and facing them in direct combat, given the option, he will engage them using traps and long-range sniper shooting to terminate the enemy with a minimum of risk.

Personal Information

Physical Description:
An imposing man, Samael stands easily six and a half feet tall, with long black hair and dark, shining eyes. Given of predatory features and a constant smirk, he has a tendency to unnerve those around him; he is heavily muscled, courtesy of a combination of heavy-duty combat augmentations and a lifetime of physical combat. He holds himself loosely, relaxed, yet a trained eye will notice the way he checks every corner of a room, the way he always positions himself near the exit to a building - make no mistake, this man is a trained soldier. He is capable of laughing and smiling and joking, but he has few friends; much of his actions are an act, although exactly how much, even he does not know.

Occupation:
Unlike most Black Blades, his primary occupation is not a demon hunter. Instead, he is considered a terrorist by the state; his reasons are unknown, but under the guise of 'Samael', he is among the most notorious figures in Babylon. While to most, his actions have no pattern, those knowledgeable quickly find that he is waging a one-man war upon the Inquisition. For this reason, he has become one of the Inquisition's primary targets; all assassination attempts to date have failed, although he has sustained multiple injuries. He chooses to operate alongside the Black Blades, and is officially a member, but none of the Black Blades believe for a second that he is on their side.
His 'taken' guise is that of Siegfried Thermidor, a young clockmaker in central Babylon. An unremarkable man, his shop is usually officially closed; it primarily acts as a meeting place for Black Blades, a gift he offered to them in return for assisting him in several battles with the Inquisition.

Biography:
Samael never knew his parents, and does not know his real name. He remembers nothing of his early life; his earliest memory is waking up in a dormitory with a dozen or so other young boys, being shouted at by a group of instructors. He was led out into a courtyard where they were faced with a group of people with hoods. These people begged and cried for their lives; the young boys were handed pistols and ordered to shoot them. Siegfried, scared out of his mind, followed the order, along with seven of the boys.
He then watched as the four who had disobeyed the order were summarily executed.
He was six years old, and they granted him the name 'Samael'.
The next few years of his life took the form of brutal combat training to become an elite soldier. He was informed that he was to be employed by Venide Corporation, one of Babylon's largest arms contractors, as an elite military operative. Over time, he hardened; he became one of the best of the Knights, trained in combat tactics of all forms, to counter humans, mages and demons alike. At age ten, he was issued high-tech cybernetic and biological augmentations; when he emerged, he found himself stronger and more dangerous than any normal human had any right to be, able to bench press several times his body weight with ease. Two years later, he was sent into combat.
For years, he fought under Venide; massacring humans, mages and demons without mercy, destroying anything that stood before him. Once issued with the advanced powered armour, he and the seven other Venide Knights formed some of the most powerful soldiers in Babylon; they were a nigh-unstoppable force in combat, following orders without question.
One day, when he was nineteen, he was in southern Babylon, in the process of exterminating a demon infestation when he stumbled upon - something. He entered a building, sweeping left and right with his rifle, headed up the stairs - there were several short, sharp bursts of gunfire, and then nothing. Silence. Nobody knows exactly what happened there; he has never told a soul. What is known is that he disappeared up there; presumed dead by his squadmates, who were unable to find his body, they left, grieved for him and moved on to the next target.
Nobody expected him to spontaneously turn up in the central lobby of Venide Headquarters, his armour covered in blood, all issued ammunition depleted and screaming his head off about demons and monsters.
Promptly removed by security and everyone in the lobby issued amnesiacs, he was returned to service after a full psychiatric evaluation. However, over time, he gradually began asking unusual questions - demanding to know who he had been, why he had been chosen as one of the Knights, why they were fighting and why he should do as they asked. Talks were begun in the highest levels of Venide's corporate structure as to what should be done with him.
One day, he was on a two-person operation with one of his teammates when - for reasons completely unknown - he shot his partner in the back of the head repeatedly with his sidearm. Minutes later, the rest of the Knights - engaged with a demon infestation at the time - were wiped out by the sudden appearance of a previously-unknown, immensely powerful demon.
Samael disappeared after that for two years; try as they did, Venide could not locate him. However, after this time, he emerged again with the destruction of a major government building in central Babylon - destroyed from beneath by several carefully-placed explosive charges. A video was released to the world of a Venide Knight claiming responsibility, claiming himself independent of the company, saying that he had chosen his own fate. Less than an hour later, another building was destroyed - a Venide research facility containing all data on the Knights. All surviving individuals involved with the program were picked off in the months that followed.
Since then, he has become an infamous and wanted terrorist; his face unknown, his every appearance causes a media storm. A hero to those who believe that Babylon needs change and a terrifying grim reaper to the Inquisition, his true goals are one of the most mysterious subjects in Babylon. Brutally ruthless and pragmatic in his every action, even the Black Blades fear crossing him.
But far more terrifying is the thought of what he has planned next...
