Suddenly the gates flew shut, producing a loud crashing sound, easily heard inside the huge house.
Paige stood and turned quickly at the sound. She caught sight of the gates and her eyes widened. "Weren't those open before?"

As the light from the hallway spilled into the room, Mathew could see a plain, four postered bed, a small night stand to the left of the bed, a desk to the right, and a wardrobe near the door. "Bed," he sighed softly, releasing Mina's hand and jumping onto the bed. He cuddled into its sheets, wrapping himself up in the blankets, and stared up at her. "Woof," he barked happily, as wolf ears appeared on his head, and a tail wagged out of the sheets.

"Bram Stoker took the legend of Vlad the Impaler, twisted it, and made him into a romanticized vampire. One so full of love and lust, that the humans of today are still seeking my kind in order to know love, and such like that." Mathew sighed and flopped onto his back. "Same with all the new stuff going around. The belief in holy water will burn us, that a bell will send us running, the sun will make us catch on fire. All of it, false." He pointed to the window above their heads, "Have you not noticed that we entered this house when it was still light outside? That alone should be proof enough."

Eve looked up at Damien. "So, do you want to be friends while we're here? I mean, we don't have to be if you don't want to, but I'd really like getting to know you for real. I mean... um...." She trailed off. She realised just how odd she sounded, carrying on about being friends with him. She almost felt sad as she dropped her hand. Why would a vampire want to be friends with a werewolf? Shut up! You stupid pessimistic brain of mine!

His frame shook violently, and froth began to form on his lips. Smoke billowed out from his mouth, engulfing and shrouding his body. There was a loud pop, and, as the smoke cleared, a small child ize version of Mathew Cain sat glaring at the floor. "Great," he said, his voice a higher pitch, "Just great."
