Personality

She's very shy and timid because of her handicap. After spending four years in a school for the deaf in Manhattan, she has to readjust to being amongst the hearing. She loves the outdoors and adores climbing trees, though she rarely has the ability to do so. Katrina begins to warm up and become more outgoing when she starts to make friends in her high school. She develops a crush on one of her male friends and eventually tells him what he already assumes about her father.

History

Katrina was born and raised in Manhattan with her mother and father. Her father, Jason, has always been physically abusive, though. Her mother, Lisa, has tried to help her daughter stay out of harm's way, but isn't brave enough to leave Jason. When Katrina was thirteen, her father became enraged when she forgot to clean up after dinner. He chased her upstairs and beat her until she was bleeding. He left her in her room, crying and bloody, but returned shortly afterwards with toothpicks. He climbed on top of her and continued to beat her. When she wouldn't stop screaming, he jammed the toothpicks into her ears. The last thing she heard was her own scream.

The hospital she was taken to a few days later was told that she pierced her eardrums herself. Jason used the college fund Lisa had saved for Katrina to pay the doctor to keep quiet and he did. Katrina was put into a school for the deaf with what was left of the college fund. For four years, Katrina went to school and learned how to read lips and do sign language. However, teachers and neighbors started getting nosy and Jason moved his family to Ailridge, a small town in Virginia. Katrina was given the option of being homeschooled or returning to a high school for the hearing. Out of fear, she chose to go to high school.

In school, she makes a few friends, one of which, she develops a huge crush on. He and the rest of the group have to figure out a way to save Katrina before her father kills her.
